Was recommended by a friend to check this place out. Seemed like a lot of online orders were placed as we were waiting watching staff prepare multiple bags before acknowledging us waiting to order. We did a jerk chicken bowl with rice and beans with a variety of toppings. Overall good flavors but pretty expensive for what it was. I wish there was an option to try or get a couple sauces on the side since what we went with wasn't very spicy. They automatically prep food in to go containers even though we ended up eating at one of the few tables in the store. Would be interested to try something else but with so many near by restaurants would probably just try somewhere new.
Pretty good food and nice change from the places nearby. But slow service and overpriced. See pic for my *$28* meal - a curry chicken bowl, vanilla pudding, and a soft drink. Keep in mind, this is fast casual, and a chipotle-style build your bowl type of line.
Popped into The Angry Jerk, after a little partying at Society. I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, I didn't. While the concept is great, the food is not quality. Let me start off by saying the customer service was on point, very nice staff. The inside is small, enough room for a few folks to sit. But I see it more as a grab your food and run or grab your food eat it quickly and get out! They are set up like chipotle, but all of the ingredients are not free. The ingredients didn't seem fresh. Not sure if they had been sitting out all day, but they were just ok. The jerk chicken was decent, but nothing was jerk about it! For the price, the amount of food they give you isn't too bad. But the quality definitely was not worth what I paid. I truly expected more.

Review is for DuPont location: Tried Angry Jerk for the first time today after reading rave reviews. It took me some time to actually locate the restaurant because my GPS kept sending me in circles and then it's good luck finding parking! When I went in, the manager seemed a bit distracted by a phone call he was on. I was barely greeted and the lady who took over my order wasn't super friendly. It was my first time there so I wasn't sure how the order process worked. She didn't try to explain or recommend me anything. Just stared at me with a dead pan expression. I mean I get it. I just got off work and was tired myself but a little customer service goes a long way and makes a difference. Now for the food, it was just ok. I got a little spoon of oxtail and the rice wasn't spectacular. My food was lukewarm, and not very hot. They had healthy options for sides, so I'll give them that, but I wouldn't come back again. I could get the same food with bigger portions for less money and feel satisfied.
So are we really paying $28 for these small portions here at "The Angry Jerk"? Well, I did...I give you HONEST, not sponsored reviews. Let's start with the pros: decor was nice and trending with the logo everywhere. It's a small venue and meant to be a quick stop and eat or carryout option. They are located in downtown Silver Spring, literally next to Society Lounge (if you know, you know) that's been a staple and landmark in the DMV for years. Back to The Angry Jerk: The service was average. The young man working the register just seemed like he was there doing his job. I was going to ask for recommendations but he gave off the vibe of nonchalant. The food was good, but expensive for the portion size. I got the wings. The sides are alacarte so I ordered the mac and cheese and cabbage. The wait for my food was about 10 minutes. My biggest cons were the portion sizes of the sides (too small like a kiddie veesion) and the parking was a terror but that's to be expected in downtown Silver Spring. Delicious tastes of the Caibbean in downtown Silver Spring. Everything is prepared, so you point to what you want and select to make a meal. Quite similar to a Chipotle type proceaa, but more delicious and Caribbean! The food is quite tasty, portions are pretty good. I only wish they had more condiments and sauces that you could put in a small container to take with you to go. I wish they had more locations or more in Northern Va.
This is my order it should have been ready by 10:44 I didn't get a text on my phone until 11:12 but my food did not come out until 11:30. And the reason why is because they were too busy fraternizing with the female customers instead of focusing on my food and then my food has the nerve to be cold and my rice ain't cooked all the way through.
So good! I've had many Jamaican places in Silver Spring. This spot is my new favorite. Not only is the menu unique offering tacos and bowls, but the food is good! I had the brown stew chicken entree, plantains and lo mein. I've never had lo mein at a Jamaican spot. This one is well seasoned and has a bit of a kick. Very good. The plantains were as expected -crispy, goey, and sweet. The brown stewed chicken and rice and peas were my absolute favorite. Not too spicy, buttery, and just delicious. The cabbage was too spicy for me, but still great. The service was also great! I will be back.
After a long day at the office, I was in no mood to cook, so I decided to try out the Angry Jerk for some tacos. The fact that it is a Black-owned establishment was an added bonus, as I wanted to show my support. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the lively beats of reggae music, which instantly set the mood for a fun dining experience. The aroma of curry filled the air, tantalizing my taste buds and making me even hungrier. Despite it being a busy Sunday night at 8pm, with a long line of people, the Angry Jerk was well-prepared to handle the influx of customers. The staff was efficient ensuring that everyone was served in a timely manner. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself in and out of the line within 15 minutes, which was quite impressive given the crowd. One of the highlights of my visit was the window seat, allowing me to enjoy my meal while taking in the view outside. It provided a nice spot to relax, hang out, and savor every bite. The ambiance of the restaurant was inviting and cozy, making it the ideal place to unwind after a long day. I enjoyed the Jerk Shrimp and Jerk Chicken Tacos. Both came with rice and peas, plantin and mango salsa. The portions were satisfying and the flavors were tasty.
This was my first experience with The Angry Jerk and I ordered the Pulled Jerk Chicken Bowl. Positives: You're able to pick a rice or chow mein, add up to 5 toppings to your bowl and pick a sauce to go on the side. They're open until 3am Friday-Sunday Negatives: The white rice was either undercooked or overcooked and crunchy. The bowl consisted mostly of that crunchy rice and the portion of jerk chicken was minuscule and down right disrespectful! The little chicken that was in the bowl was cold and flavorless. Everything was dry. There wasn't a wet element to the bowl other than slaw I added and the sauce they included on the side wasn't nearly enough to make it palatable. I really hope this was a one off and I just got a bad bowl. I ended up throwing most of it away. The picture of the pulled jerk chicken bowl on the website is a far cry from what I received today. I'm not sure if I'll try again.

I was looking for a new place to get some authentic Jamaican food and come across the Angry Jerk! Y'all! They did not disappoint! It's basically a chipotle style restaurant where you choose what toppings you want in a bowl! I ordered an oxtail bowl with fried rice, plantains, and sweet potatoes. The oxtail was extremely juicy and well seasoned! The fried rice is a must have! Also, try the jerk mumbo and sweet jerk sauces! So, so good! The service was good as well! This spot is clean, but hot. I sat inside and ate my food. Saturday around 2:45pm, not busy, me and another customer in there. I got a half jerk chicken with cabbage and Mac and cheese. $23.31. Mac and cheese and another side are an up charge, $3.50 upcharge for Mac and cheese, $18.49 with non upcharge sides. Chicken was good! Little spicy and sweet, perfect to me. Mac and cheese food, it has to be a customer favorite which is why it's more. Cabbage perfect, slightly crisp with good flavor. This is 4/5 because I think it's on the high side. I'd an get a similar meal for $16 with similar quality. I also think the staff aren't the friendliest, not rude, but nothing special. Consider this the Jamaican Chipotle....I thought they were joking but they really weren't...we came for a meet up with a few friends and were greeted by Tori who was kind enough to explain the ordering process. There's a decent amount to choose from...jerk shrimp, chicken, ox-tails, and even a vegetarian bowl. We tried a little bit of everything however I was most impressed with the Jerk Shrimp and Chick Peas. As you make your way to the end of the line you notice the assortment of cold press juices to top your meal off...I went with the Cucumber inspired beverage. Seems like The Angry Jerk is starting to make the mistake many small businesses make; allowing a decline in quality and service. There was a time when I could count on the food always being top notch and the staff always being personable and helpful. Now, I'm lucky if I get a meal that isn't missing something I ordered and if it tastes the way I'm expecting. Today will be my last time patronizing this space and that's unfortunate because I truly enjoyed it. If the same person(s) who owns The Breakfast Club and Society Lounge owns this, it's seriously a bad look that they're allowing this business to rep the brand in this manner. The staff seem annoyed and unapproachable and the food isn't hitting on what it used to. Additionally, why would you send two Mac-n-cheeses with varying degrees of fullness? Like, did you run out and give me the leftovers for my order? Did you expect me to pull from one to balance out the other (photos attached)? ALSO, you ran out of something I ordered and instead of calling and telling me, you send an incomplete order and no refund. Yes, sir, first time trying this restaurant, I gotta say that when i came in it definitely lives up by it's name the bowl itself has that carribean flavor and the drink that I had was the pineapple ginger and it definitely has a kicked to it but I give a shout out to the DC location to make me feel welcome I appreciate the service and helping me with my selection I am gonna go back there again!!!!!! read more

First time trying angry jerk and ordered via door dash. The food was packaged very well which is always a plus. I ordered the half jerk chicken , with rice and beans and the angry mac & cheese. Also the jerk chicken tacos and yucca fries . The jerk chicken was delicious just the right amount of spice and full of flavor , the Mac and cheese was okay but nothing to be too excited about. The jerk chicken tacos were amazing , and the cucumber slaw and pickled topping gave it just the right amount of kick to it. My only reason for 4 stars vs 5 is due to the extra sauce being missing from my order . Overall everything was delicious and I plan to visit in person the next time I order. read more

I ordered the jerk chicken tacos, as you can see they aren't stingy with the toppings. These tacos were packed with flavor and the portion was perfect. The chicken and fried rice are seasoned to perfection. Best of all if you come in on a Tuesday you can get these for ONLY $7. read more

I was really hoping to like this place but it was just okay. The pulled oxtail taco was the best out of the three taco options. It was a bit spicy but well seasoned. The shrimp didn't taste like much and the chicken was very dry. read more

Good food but DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY. I wish I could give this place 5 stars because the food is great but this is the second time we've ordered DoorDash and not received the jerk sauce that comes with the bowls. The first time this happened no one picked up the phone. The second time we paid for extra sauce just in case and when it still didn't come I called and was told to just call with our next order and let them know... what the hell is that going to do? Update: lowering to 2 stars because after my husband went to retrieve the sauce they forgot they were extremely rude to him. Plus they forgot one of the toppings on my bowl and I bit into a huge piece of bone in my pulled chicken. I used to like this place but have no plans to return. read more

Let me first say that I appreciate their hours! Given their location I can understand the late hours, they catch all of the club goers. I like Jamaican food but not sure what happened here. This was my first time as I was looking for a bite to eat so this was perfect. Or so I thought... I ordered a bowl with rice and beans and stew chicken! They gave me 2 pieces of chicken, 2 bite size potatoes... the stew wasn't really stewed, more like chicken with sauce on it. The place was packed and full of chaos! The cashier was more concerned with what was happening in the line than taking my money. Mind you there was a long line and 2 dudes just walked in, walked up and started ordering. While at the hair salon my stylist told me about this restaurant so I decided to place a 3.50 delivery fee order through Uber Eats... I order the jerk chicken dinner- which comes w/ two sides... I ordered the angry Mac & cheese and lo mein... I never received the lo mein- which annoyed me and I didn't get a chance to taste the angry Mac & cheese but I will assume it was decent since my husband ate it all! The jerk chicken was underwhelming.. juicy? Yes! Cooked on the grill? Yes! But truly lacked flavor and spice! I'm West Indian so that is highly important to me. The star of my order was the red snapper! It did not disappoint! The red snapper was so flavorful, had some spice and filling (ate it yesterday and today) the only set back to the fish is the sides. I ordered pickled coleslaw and cabbage. Since it comes in the same container as the fish & sauce, I am unable to grade is the sides because the sauce over flavored or flavored the cabbage and slaw. I got the pulled oxtail bowl and a chicken patty. The patty was generously sized! And definitely had a solid kick. I like spicy, so on top of being happy with the portion, I enjoyed the taste. It is spicier than other Jamaican patties I've had, so it might be a bit too intense for everyone, but I really enjoyed it and demolished it. The oxtail bowl was a bit lackluster. The photo shows the spoonful of oxtail (which was alright, tasted like slightly dry birria) with the sides. They are piled on a significant portion of rice and beans, which is most of the bowl--I ordered the rice and peas, but that didn't happen. I know peas can mean beans but beans was listed separately so I thought they were signifying a difference. Since I ordered delivery, I couldn't point out to them it wasn't what I ordered. The pulled oxtail bowl was close to $20 and I don't think I'd get it again. My delivery didn't take too long (I live in NE DC) and the food was good temperature. I also appreciated that they were open late. I wasn't crazy for the ricebowl+sides with a little bit of oxtail--but I'm down to explore their menu further. read more

All right so this is another spot that one of my followers suggested that I go to. I took a look at the menu, it looked decent, and the name alone had me curious.This spot is called @theangryjerk!! Located at 8223 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD, it sits amidst a row of other eateries that you may have never heard of before. I went, mid day on a Sunday...and it was packed. . . . They have a pretty simple menu which makes it easy to order. Their popular menu items include half jerk chicken (that comes with two sides), their oxtail beef bowl (which you can choose rice and peas, fried rice, or white rice), and their Angry mac & cheese. Their sides include plantains, yucca fries, a pickle slaw, and Roti skin. The main dishes include fried fish, jerk salmon, a whole jerk chicken, stewed snapper, jerk tacos (shrimp, veggie, chicken or oxtail) and those aforementioned protein bowls. They have a bunch of pudding for dessert like cinnamon pudding, banana pudding, Oh and a birthday cake pudding. The sauces!! Mild angry, hot angry, angry sweet, jerk Mumbo, jerk barbecue, Pepper a Sauce, Sweet and Spicy, and oxtail gravy. . . . So I copped their half jerk chicken ($17.99 pictured with rice and peas & an Angry Mac n cheese at an additional $3.50). The Mac wasn't in my order, so they replaced it with a full side of Mac ($7.50). I also got their mixed tacos, 1 shrimp taco 1 oxtail taco, and 1 chicken taco ($11.75 pictured), a strawberry shortcake ($5 pictured), and their pineapple ginger drink ($4.50 pictured). Their tacos...all of'em...STAMP!! They had cabbage, pineapple, and sweet jerk sauce on them!! STAMP!! The half jerk meal...STAMP!! Flavorful, spicy, tender...that's it. The rice I passed on. It wasn't thoroughly cooked. The Mac n cheese (it was a hint of jerk spice in it) & juice were delicious as well. The sweet jerk sauce, and the mumbo sauce were the only sauces they had available. Both had bite back to them. I really wanted to try their hotter sauce selections. . . . Customer service was decent (again it was packed), parking was rough on Georgia Ave., the establishment was clean, and online ordering was easy. Go...utilize your patience, and enjoy their good food. Yikes is all I can say. $24 gets you a whole jerk chicken and 2 sides. Let me break it down for you. The chicken - smallest chicken you can imagine. The drumstick was just slightly larger than the drummete from a wing, for perspective. The rub is okay but the chicken was overcooked and dry. The coleslaw - how anyone can justify calling a 2 ounce portion of coleslaw appropriate is beyond me. The Mac n cheese - no sauce, very little cheese. It tastes like overcooked pasta with dried out cheese melted on part of it. Yeah, with all the other options out here there's no way I'll be returning. Hard pass. read more

I ordered the brown stew chicken entree and paid extra for a side of Mac & cheese. I did not receive the Mac & cheese in my order. I called and spoke with a young lady who assured me that a manager would contact me today. (I ordered on a Sunday)It is close of business (5:30 pm) & no one has reached out. When I was on the phone with the restaurant in regards to my order, I could hear men in the background insinuating that I was lying because "it's in the bag!" I have been looking forward to trying this spot. I was looking forward to it. I got my food and it's... fine (I guess) I ordered the ox tail tacos and it was sent to me without tortillas (I used Uber Eats). The meat was tasty but not spiced. I assumed everything would be well seasoned AND spiced based on the name. The barbacoa at Chipotle is spicer as a reference. I got carrots and the pineapple salsa and fried rice. The ox tail was good but the portions seemed out of whack. So much rice and not a lot of meat, but again the meat is tasty. I'm a mac and cheese snob, but I keep trying it out. The mac and cheese would have been really good if it wasn't so dry. It was seasoned well but it wasn't creamy at all. I imagine if it was baked for 6 minutes less it would be good. But the dryness really ruined it. I will try again but will go in the restaurant. I will look to see what sides look best next time. I called to ask about my "tacos" and no one picked up. I waited for almost 10 minutes and no one picked up. I called 3x and after you wait for about 3.5 minutes before they send you to VM Overall this place has potential.
