Newish restaurant in Silver Spring, located three doors down from its sister restaurant, The Society Restaurant & Lounge! I've ordered the quarter jerk chicken with a side of rice and peas and plantains twice now and the food was inconsistent. I initially ordered from this restaurant on a Saturday evening. My meal was lukewarm, the rice & peas was burned and my plantains were charred. The chicken was the only saving grace. It featured familiar jerk flavors. The jerk sauce added a spicy pop of flavor that disguised the flavor of the burnt rice and peas and blackened plantains. I figured this place was still getting its act together and I liked the jerk chicken, so I decided to give it another try on a Friday evening. This time my dish was served hot; the rice and peas was not burned; and the fried plantains were a golden color. The chicken tasted just as good as it did during my first visit. The quarter chicken meal comes with enough food for one serving and you are given a choice of white or dark meat, which I appreciate. I'm used to getting more food for the same price at other casual Caribbean restaurants, so the portion size seems very small in comparison. I did notice that my friend's stewed chicken dish was slightly larger than the quarter chicken dish. The chicken had a nice flavor, however, it was salty and skewed heavier on rice and peas over the chicken. This place could use better communication between the kitchen and front of the house to make sure orders are given to customers as soon as they are ready, especially when the restaurant is not busy. During both of my visits, I noticed that someone from the kitchen physically walks the takeout order out of the kitchen and places it on the counter behind the cashiers. During my second visit, the cashier stepped away from the register and it took him several minutes to realize that my order had been sitting on the counter. The restaurant decor consists of "The Angry Jerk" wallpaper, wooden tables with red plastic chairs and stools, and two bikes displaying "The Angry Jerk" logo. The place was empty during both of my visits between 7-8pm on a Friday and Saturday. This place has potential. I hope it does well in this location. It's basically a chipotle style restaurant where you choose what toppings you want in a bowl! I ordered an oxtail bowl with fried rice, plantains, and sweet potatoes. The oxtail was extremely juicy and well seasoned! The fried rice is a must have! Also, try the jerk mumbo and sweet jerk sauces! So, so good! The service was good as well! This spot is clean, but hot. I sat inside and ate my food. Saturday around 2:45pm, not busy, me and another customer in there. I got a half jerk chicken with cabbage and Mac and cheese. $23.31. Mac and cheese and another side are an up charge, $3.50 upcharge for Mac and cheese, $18.49 with non upcharge sides. Chicken was good! Little spicy and sweet, perfect to me. Mac and cheese food, it has to be a customer favorite which is why it's more. Cabbage perfect, slightly crisp with good flavor. This is 4/5 because I think it's on the high side. I'd an get a similar meal for $16 with similar quality. I also think the staff aren't the friendliest, not rude, but nothing special. Seems like The Angry Jerk is starting to make the mistake many small businesses make; allowing a decline in quality and service. There was a time when I could count on the food always being top notch and the staff always being personable and helpful. Now, I'm lucky if I get a meal that isn't missing something I ordered and if it tastes the way I'm expecting. Really good Caribbean fast casual restaurant. I went with a friend and we shared a chicken bowl. The restaurant is right in downtown Silver Spring so if you can order and pick up you should! They do have a few tables inside to sit and eat. After you order at the counter, they will call your order. The bowl we shared had jerk chicken, rice n peas, cinnamon sweet potatoes, mango pico, jerk cauliflower, and plantain. The mix of sweet and spicy and all the textures were so good together. I got the pulled oxtail bowl and a chicken patty. The patty was generously sized! And definitely had a solid kick. I like spicy, so on top of being happy with the portion, I enjoyed the taste. It is spicier than other Jamaican patties I've had, so it might be a bit too intense for everyone, but I really enjoyed it and demolished it. The oxtail bowl was a bit lackluster. The photo shows the spoonful of oxtail (which was alright, tasted like slightly dry birria) with the sides. They are piled on a significant portion of rice and beans, which is most of the bowl--I ordered the rice and peas, but that didn't happen. I know peas can mean beans but beans was listed separately so I thought they were signifying a difference. Since I ordered delivery, I couldn't point out to them it wasn't what I ordered. The pulled oxtail bowl was close to $20 and I don't think I'd get it again. My delivery didn't take too long (I live in NE DC) and the food was good temperature. I'm not mad at the Angry Jerk! The food here is reeeaaaally good - I've had the jerk chicken, the curry chicken, the curry CHICKPEAS, and babyeee, lemme tell youuuu, its all bomb. If you're wondering what to try here, I'd recommend ANYTHING with Jerk Chicken. The jerk chicken sauce here is melt-in-your-mouth good, it literally makes your mouth quiver (at least mine lol). The in-store customer service is generally good, though I've noticed some minor missteps when ordering food delivery (missing utensils, etc.). While the Angry Jerk is working out its last 'new restaurant kinks', I think it truly has a lot of promise. I've noticed the quality significantly improve since opening day, and now I find myself running here when I have a craving for Jamaican food instead of other spots. We recently came across The Angry Jerk looking for a late night bite to eat before going to bars in Dupont, but once we sat down to eat, we didn't go to any bars after. Sent straight home with a food coma... It was pretty empty when we came in (but it was late at night so I'm not surprised). However, the staff were incredibly welcoming right away, even offering us samples of the chicken in their spicy sauce. I personally only ever ate jerk chicken in my college cafeteria, so I had pretty low expectations but WOWW it surpassed my expectations! My boyfriend and I ordered a half chicken with a base of rice and tropical slaw, and a side of plantains, with a pineapple juice. We swear they gave us a whole chicken because the portions were unreal. We were both stuffed from just one bowl. The chicken is so juicy and tender and the spicy sauce they add on top is sweet and has the perfect amount of kick to it. They have a pretty simple menu which makes it easy to order. Their sides include plantains, yucca fries, a pickle slaw, and Roti skin. They have a bunch of pudding for dessert like cinnamon pudding, banana pudding, Oh and a birthday cake pudding. The sauces!! Yikes is all I can say. $24 gets you a whole jerk chicken and 2 sides. Let me break it down for you. The chicken - smallest chicken you can imagine. The drumstick was just slightly larger than the drummete from a wing, for perspective. The rub is okay but the chicken was overcooked and dry. The coleslaw - how anyone can justify calling a 2 ounce portion of coleslaw appropriate is beyond me. The Mac n cheese - no sauce, very little cheese. I ordered the brown stew chicken entree and paid extra for a side of Mac & cheese. I did not receive the Mac & cheese in my order. I called and spoke with a young lady who assured me that a manager would contact me today. (I ordered on a Sunday)It is close of business (5:30 pm) & no one has reached out. I have been looking forward to trying this spot. I was looking forward to it. I got my food and it's... fine (I guess) I ordered the ox tail tacos and it was sent to me without tortillas (I used Uber Eats). The meat was tasty but not spiced. I assumed everything would be well seasoned AND spiced based on the name. The barbacoa at Chipotle is spicer as a reference. I got carrots and the pineapple salsa and fried rice. The ox tail was good but the portions seemed out of whack. So much rice and not a lot of meat, but again the meat is tasty. I'm a mac and cheese snob, but I keep trying it out. The mac and cheese would have been really good if it wasn't so dry. It was seasoned well but it wasn't creamy at all. I imagine if it was baked for 6 minutes less it would be good. But the dryness really ruined it. I will try again but will go in the restaurant. I will look to see what sides look best next time. I called to ask about my "tacos" and no one picked up. I stopped here one day when I was exploring silver spring. It is in a great location downtown. Service is fairly quick as food is premade. I got the jerk chicken with cabbage and plantains. The jerk was juicy and delicious. Plantains werw good but not very sweer, i think they could've ripened more. Cabbage was super flavorful and delicious. I tried the cucumber ginger water as well. For $6 it did not seem worth it. I expected a strong cucumber ginger flavor but it tasted mostly like sugar water with a little cucumber ginger added. I have had the pulled oxtail and jerk chicken bowls on separate visits. Both were quite good. I enjoy the add-ons (5 for free) and the choices of bases. You can get white rice, fried rice, rice and peas or noodles or tacos instead of a bowl. The add-ons are flavorful especially the roasted sweet potatoes which balance out the spice.
