Food was very good. Onion soup needed more flavor but had plenty of cheese. Side Caesar was huge! The dressing was light. I would have preferred more. The deconstructed beef stew was very good. Would have liked more meat. Restaurant is next to bar. Band was playing which was nice. Good ambiance. Understaffed. Our waiter had to do everything including seating people. Bread would have been nice.

Love the atmosphere here in this his historic location in the Carew tower. They kept the original art deco motif which gives the feel of a classic era here. Have a cocktail and enjoy some of their food. Smash burgers were good. Serve was very good, Charming place!

I arrived to Cincinnati late in the evening. Headed downstairs from our hotel room to the 1931 restaurant for a nice dinner at about 8:45 pm on a Sunday night. They were still serving dinner, cocktails, and dessert. The espresso martinis were perfect. Ice cold and made just right way. For dinner we ordered the salmon. The portion was a bit small, but absolutely delicious. The sauce they were serving on it contained nuts, I asked for that on the side since I have a nut allergy and they were happy to do so. For dessert I had the tres leches cake and an Irish coffee. I did just finish driving 800 miles, I deserved it. Haha.

Visited on a Saturday evening at 5:30pm. Wasn't very busy as you can tell by my dining room picture I shared. There was a pianist playing when we arrived so that was a nice. Please note this restaurant is in the middle of a hotel, so you might hear some loud crowds here and there. Shortly after we were sat our sever greeted us. We ordered a couple drinks, which only took a few minutes. The drinks were great! My wife and I were very pleased. As for the dinner, it came out pretty quick. My wife ordered the Roasted Amish Chicken with a small plate of Blistered Brussels Sprouts to share. The chicken was delicious, and very moist. The mashed potatoes and broccoli were near perfect. The brussels sprouts were pretty good, my wife really liked them. I'm not a big fan of brussels sprouts, but these weren't too bad! I ordered the Lemon Pepper Salmon. I don't eat salmon often, as I prefer shrimp, catfish, cod, etc, but thought I would give it a try. I wasn't disappointed. Perfectly cooked, great taste. Came with fresh asparagus and those were good too. Overall a wonderful experience. Definitely recommend if you're staying at the hotel or in the area.

The apricot tart is amazing. We ordered all the deserts and they were all great, but the tart was my favorite. There's live music on the grand piano Tuesday through Saturday. The hotel is stunning and sitting at the bar or dining room gives you a stunning view of the art deco architecture. The front desk staff here is fantastic as are the bartenders and servers.

We are staying here at the Hilton. After a Reds baseball game we stopped at the bar and had a couple of drinks. They were very good. We came back for dinner at the restaurant. We started with baked Gouda and it was tasty. I ordered scallops and hubby tried to order the baked cod, but they were out so he had pork roast. We both had mashed potatoes substituted for grits. Our meals had very nice presentations and were tasty. We both remarked they were a bit on the salty side. We then shared buckeye pie. It was very rich and very tasty! A good way to end the meal. The restaurant is very classy with beautiful ceiling paintings. It's a very historic place. Our waitress was the only one, but she did a nice job of checking in on us.

American Cuisine. The 1931 is located inside the Hilton Netherland Plaza Hotel. We dinned here for breakfast and just went with the buffet each time. Service was slow but friendly. You can request your eggs any style for no additional charge if you do not want the buffet scrambled. Food was good but they had a little trouble the first visit keeping the buffet stocked as it was so busy. You can just walk up but you might experience a wait during rush or peak times. Helpful hint - make an OpenTable reservations Breakfast has limited seating. Formerly known as Orchids at Palm Court. The space now consists of The 1931 restaurant for dinner, The Grille at 1931 for breakfast (the upper back part of the restaurant, and The Lounge at 1931 which is a treasure! Would recommend and is a great option when staying at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza. https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/cvgnphf-hilton-cincinnati-netherland-plaza/dining/

French Onion Soup and Falalel

They have a wonderful French onion soup. The feta dip was the best we've had. This is a must stop location with beautiful painted ceilings and post prohibition architecture.

I came here for the brunch buffet. The management was horrible. I waited for an hour for a seat just to enter and realize they were using about a quarter of the available tables. Once seated, the food was pretty good. Staff was attentive. If you are in the area and see a wait for this, might just go ahead and skip this.

Part of the dining room.

I travel often for leisure. The 1931 is magical. Beautiful art deco design and the pure grandeur of everything creates a sense of awe and nostalgia that you will never fully understand until you are here. The food was exquisite and prepared and presented with a level of perfection that rivals a Michelin Star restaurant. A fully stocked bar has an excellent selection of liquor and beer. Now for the staff; they are second to none. Period. Kind, attentive, well trained and knowledgeable. It's incredibly rare I'm impressed so much that I intend to make a three hour trip once or twice a month just to come here.

Restaurant area

If you're in the mood for a Great Gatsby style dinner, this is the place. Situated in a beautiful art deco building, the restaurant shines during Christmas and holidays. Our server, Katie, was a joy. Ask about the ghost stories in the third floor ballroom, sip an old fashioned, and order the brussel sprouts!

Filet with mashed potatoes and broccolini

Very good restaurant. It's designed to be more casual than Orchids so it's not as fussy and it's also a little less expensive. We started with baked Brie and jam served with a variety of crackers as well as complementary bread - yummy delicious! My wife ordered diver scallops with beet grits, fennel and orange. I had a 6 ounce filet steak with mashed potatoes and broccolini. Everything was perfectly cooked although my steak had a little more salt than I prefer. It was still delicious. Cocktails, bourbon list and wines by the glass was just as good as before. The chef's old fashioned with frozen ice cube of simple syrup and bitters is still a remarkably excellent cocktail. Ambiance was perhaps the best attribute of this restaurant. Service was gracious with comfortable pacing. The crowd was a combination of well dressed and casual with many families coming from the Reds game on this summer evening. The setting of the Palm Court is always beautiful with great people watching. Tonight being a Saturday there was a jazz band which made an after dinner coffee that much more enjoyable.

Wow! What a way to spend our 1 year wedding anniversary! I loved this place…read more It has been a few months since eating here but I still find myself thinking about it. Our next trip to Cincinnati; It will be extremely difficult to stay away from here. We spent the day in Newport and around Cincinnati and wanted somewhere nice for the occasion. I was iffy on this place at first... you can throw a rock all over America and hit a place with 'Barrel' in the name these days. The Yelp reviews swing both ways here but I'm here to tell you my take... because it swings so far towards the 5 stars that it's very much a 6 or 7 star place(maybe more). We gauged our arrival time based on other activities that day. We wanted ample time at the nearby Lego exhibit so when we arrived there, we made a reservation for 4:30-5. Eating early and making our way back to Louisville was a great idea. The entire time we were there, no one else came in so we had the entire place to ourselves(It was a Friday). The atmosphere is homey but during busy times, I could see it being noisy. The booths could easily fit 6 people comfortably... probably 8 in some cases depending on how wide some of you are. Special Note: This place highlights The Parrillada Experience for Two on their menu and we wanted it! We didn't order it because at a price tag of 130-and pictures online, we didn't want it to be a failed outing. After our first trip, The Parrillada Exp will be on the agenda next time. It's a mixture of different steaks, sausages, shrimp, sides, and salads. Definitely worth the cost. On to the food: Sausage App - Argentine Chorizo. Farmhouse Sausage. Grilled Ciabatta. Hearts of Palm. Green/Red chimichurri. Pepper Relish. I don't like ordering this type of dish when I go places because you never know if it's going to be delicious or very bad. It ended up being super delicious. We couldn't make up our mind which sauce we liked the best and which meat we liked the best. App PERFECTION! Land and Sea - This is what my wife went with. Asada Skirt Steak. Jumbo Shrimp. Asparagus. Red chimichurri butter. I had bites of the shrimp and it was good. I had to save room for my dish. Wagyu Denver Cut - I went back and forth. Lobster ravioli being on the menu almost made my decision instant but I was going back and forth between ravioli, steak, and a few other things. I asked the server which he recommended of the 4 Chef's cuts. He recommended two... one of which was the Wagyu so I went with it. I wasn't disappointed AT ALL. He mentioned that the Wagyu Denver Cut was a new addition to the menu... I'm not sure but you could definitely tell it was cooked, arranged, and presented with care. I savored every angle of every bite. We also ordered a side of brussels because of course! Originally we were going to dessert somewhere else but went ahead and ordered the Hazelnut Vanilla Creme Brulee here. Perfect ending to the meal. This brulee was light and had the right amount of crunch. It was also larger than expected. We had no complaints with this place. Easily one of the better restaurants I've had in Cincinnati. If you're doubting visiting this place, take the dive! Other notes: They have beer and a small cocktail variety but they primarily seem focused on wine(plenty of options to choose from).

I do realize it is a chain but so far they have nailed all the prerequisites of what they need to be a successful chain in my opinion. Definitely recommended to get reservations the day before as I don't believe they take reservations the day of. Ambiance is friendly and warm and service has always been really good! The food is the big highlight though. The food here is just plain amazing. The main course of chicken to all of the side dishes they have. The spoon bread to the sweet potatoes to the mac and cheese, it's all good. It is definitely one of the big reasons we go there. Looking forward to coming back again soon! Bring a big appetite.

I ordered immediately as I was late at 9 PM for dinner. I got the three piece dark with sides of Mac and cheese which came with biscuit, and green beans. Everything tasty enough, and the fried chicken was juicy and honestly fine without the honey. The spicy honey which was in a glass ramekin, was pretty good. As oft said, "I put that sh*t on everything -- so I tried it with the Mac and cheese and it was noticeably better. All in all, pretty good experience here and will rate it 3.5/5 overall.

The space is open, bright and well decorated making it very inviting for brunch. You order at the counter from the menus placed along the wall then food is delivered to your table. The various brunch items all sounded very inviting so I was having trouble deciding what to order. So I got a recommendation to try the Shakshuka. Not sure how to pronounce it but when it arrived it was just the right portion and quite tasty for brunch. It's a bowl with a red pepper sauce and feta cheese and kale along with eggs sunny side up. The dish is served with pita so you can do a little bit of dipping in the tasty sauce. To accompany our food we selected the mimosa service and bloody mary pitcher. A pitcher is just perfect for sharing. And the mimosa service was delightful. The server arrived with a bottle of Prosecco and small carafes of orange, grapefruit and blood orange juices to mix yourself. The food was fresh and tasty with prompt delivery of our food to our table. Not quite a full service restaurant since you have to order at the counter but still a nice experience located downtown.
