Never in my life have I met people so helpful. When I came into data link west I was having…read moreproblems with my WiFi on my pc(Ethernet wasn't working either). I asked all of my tech savvy friends and all of them had different answers about what they thought was wrong with my PC. I had a feeling it was my motherboard, whether that be the bios/drivers or the physical motherboard. But for the life of me I could not narrow it down. When I went to data link west they gave me a free diagnosis. Rob used the system console to test the internet's connection strength and found out that the built in WiFi in my intel motherboard was the problem. He was able to figure out what was wrong about the PC in just five minutes, while it took me days to even narrow down WHERE the problem came from. I came in on a day when Robert wasn't in, and the other employee working there gave me his card. The next time I came in, Robert was there and I asked for motherboard suggestions. He printed me out the newegg pages for two of them, and then told me how to find them. When I was driving back home I got a text from him saying he realized the ones he showed me don't have built in WiFi, and sent me a new suggestion. When the motherboard I ordered arrived, I called the shop. The shop didn't pick up, but I got a call from the owner saying that he's not working at the shop today, and he told me that Robert was in today, though. In an hour or two I got a text from Robert. He said that he needed to install new software since I changed the brand of motherboard I was using, and in another hour or two, the PC was fully fixed. Funnily enough, Robert was out the next day and I would've had to wait 5 more days for it to be done if he weren't there! He even said he stress tested the WiFi to make sure we don't have the same problem! I cannot begin to describe how helpful everyone was, from the free diagnostic, giving me motherboard suggestions without charging me, to calling me back on YOUR DAY OFF WHILE OUT OF TOWN, this is my number one new repair space. I cannot recommend this business enough, they're the real deal, and won't ever rip you off like other places might. Thank you so much for helping me get my gaming PC up and running, it's been amazing.

The power supply on my computer died. The computer is 12 years old and really not worth fixing…read more But the data on that computer is really quite valuable. Of course I made a backup of that SATA disk drive before I came to Oak Harbor, and that backup is sitting on a shelf... in Seattle. However, the data on that drive is probably okay. So all I need to do is get the data off of that drive. My first thought was, "Okay, I will just go to Walmart or Office depot and get a USB to SATA cable for on the order of $10-$20." Except that none of those places actually had the cable in stock. The nearest place that actually had one was in Seattle, and if I have to go back to get the cable, I might as well just get the drive off the shelf and recover that way. So then I went to Pioneer computer, and explained to them my problem - with the complication that the file system on that drive is EXT4. No problem, "Kenny" knows all about Linux. He recovered all of the data I needed, ahead of schedule and precisely on budget. Here is the best part. They knew that they could sell me a new computer, that I could use with that disk They had a couple of dozen machines for sale, at what I thought were reasonable prices. They did *not* try to sell me a new computer. An important caveat: They're busy - as all successful businesses are. So they are not so good at returning phone calls, at least not today. But if you go there, in person, then they will take good care of you, right away. When I was a sysadmin, I used a similar system to triage my work load. E-mail: low priority. Phone call: medium priority. In-person: highest priority. Zoom call: a little complicated. Nice work, Kenny.

The computer tech did not listen to my concerns when I dropped off the computer. Just kept typing…read moreaway and never looked me in the eye. The phone message he left letting me know it was ready indicated his lack of understanding of the original issue. When I went to pick up the computer, both he and the owner yelled at me, treated me like an idiot, and insisted I told them something that I did not. They downloaded new software that I did NOT request, requiring hours of work on my part to repair settings and restore directories. I will not return if I can possibly help it. They may be competent, but they do not open their ears to listen to the customer.
