The power supply on my computer died. The computer is 12 years old and really not worth fixing. But the data on that computer is really quite valuable. Of course I made a backup of that SATA disk drive before I came to Oak Harbor, and that backup is sitting on a shelf... in Seattle. However, the data on that drive is probably okay. So all I need to do is get the data off of that drive. My first thought was, "Okay, I will just go to Walmart or Office depot and get a USB to SATA cable for on the order of $10-$20." Except that none of those places actually had the cable in stock. The nearest place that actually had one was in Seattle, and if I have to go back to get the cable, I might as well just get the drive off the shelf and recover that way. So then I went to Pioneer computer, and explained to them my problem - with the complication that the file system on that drive is EXT4. No problem, "Kenny" knows all about Linux. He recovered all of the data I needed, ahead of schedule and precisely on budget. Here is the best part. They knew that they could sell me a new computer, that I could use with that disk They had a couple of dozen machines for sale, at what I thought were reasonable prices. They did *not* try to sell me a new computer. An important caveat: They're busy - as all successful businesses are. So they are not so good at returning phone calls, at least not today. But if you go there, in person, then they will take good care of you, right away. When I was a sysadmin, I used a similar system to triage my work load. E-mail: low priority. The computer tech did not listen to my concerns when I dropped off the computer. Just kept typing away and never looked me in the eye. The phone message he left letting me know it was ready indicated his lack of understanding of the original issue. When I went to pick up the computer, both he and the owner yelled at me, treated me like an idiot, and insisted I told them something that I did not. They downloaded new software that I did NOT request, requiring hours of work on my part to repair settings and restore directories. I will not return if I can possibly help it. They may be competent, but they do not open their ears to listen to the customer. read more

Fast, friendly and affordable! The power cord to my laptop frayed and sparked while I was working from home. My laptop only has a few hours of battery power so I was freaking out thinking I'd have to order a new one online and wait 2 days for it to arrive and not be able to work. I doubted any place on the island would have in stock the power cord I needed. I called 3 computer repair companies on the island and Pioneer Computer Plus was the only one who had it in stock. They keep used computer parts their clients no longer need when they bring in their computer for repair to sell them to people like me who need them. Max from Computer Plus LLC is absolutely the best computer repair guy anywhere!!!!! First, he's great at what he does, but most important, he's extremely honest and very reasonably priced. Many times he won't even charge you to fix minor things. I needed a new sound card and I purchased one on Amazon and brought it in for him to install. He did something better and gave me an external soundcard, which was better suited for my needs, and he refused to charge me for anything. He just said, "lets trade for the sound card, and no charge for the services." I paid only $10 for the sound card on Amazon and he had paid about $15 or 20 for the external sound card and I felt bad that he was loosing out, but refused to take my money. Then, he fixes fax, copiers, scanners that people take in to recycle and he gives them away for free. I thought, "Wow, you could be making money off of these, especially since you repaired them and made them work again," but his philosophy is that since I got them for free, I'm giving them away for free. He is truly a rare breed and I feel so lucky to have bumped into this guy, especially when there are a lot of dishonest people in the world always trying to make a buck, but not Max. He's the best. He also fixed my broken laptop screen and only charged me $25.00. Amazing. I went to Pioneer Computer Plus, LLC a few days ago with a laptop that was having issues. It needed to be cleaned out and some more RAM installed. I was quoted very fair prices for the work that had to be done with the caveat they would call if it turned out to be something major. Never in my life have I ever had a computer shop fix a computer as quickly as as fairly priced as here. I didn't expect to see the computer for several days or even a couple of weeks. Imagine my surprise when they called the very same day to tell me all issues had been fixed and the new RAM installed. Their pricing structure is the most fair I've ever seen and the fact they did the work so quickly and fairly I can't sing their praises enough. I would highly recommend this business to anyone in need of their services. The best part is being able to support a Veteran owned local business!!!
