I would have to say it's a hit or miss here. Unfortunately the cook is great some days but not others. If you have never been "That breakfast place" is located close to the heart of Willimantic and does both breakfast and lunch while open. I usually go for breakfast but both are good. They always have special hot and ice coffee flavors as well as lunch and breakfast specials always changing on the big dry erase wall. The atmosphere is very bright and fun and the waitresses are very warm. Never had any problems service wise. Be careful though if the parking lot is busy chances are it will be a long wait to get a table. This place gets packed Friday thru Sunday. Some of my favorite orders here are to loaded tater tots (not on the menu) and the chocolate chip pancakes. read more

I had breakfast with a friend here because we have always received good food and fairly decent service. NOT THIS DAY! At breakfast it is generally very busy so we understand that the wait staff may not have a lot of time, but everyone is usually pleasant. NOT OUR WAITRESS, a pretty young lady with blonde hair, a gray baseball cap and a nike sweatshirt. We never got her name. I should have known that this was not going to be good when I altered my order to a senior size- still while the young woman was at the table- and she huffed and rolled her eyes. When my omelet came it was disappointing. Cold eggs and unmelted cheese. Towards the end of our meal my friend wanted more coffee and I more tea. The young woman was at the next table so I waved to her. Of course I understood that she was waiting on another table and I assumed that she would come over when she was done. Instead, she looked at me with an extremely annoyed face and in a loud voice she said 'I'll be right over, can't you see I'm busy'. Wow. I generally go out of my way to be pleasant to wait staff, but I was quite annoyed at this point. When she came over with our drinks she said ' here's your tea' to me. I did not answer as I was still speechless at her attitude. When I did not respond she said 'you could say thank you'. I did not. We decided to leave at that point. When I went up to the cashier to pay, the waitress ran over and said 'I'll be with you in a minute sweetie '. I did not respond, and she was not 'with me in a minute'. Another wait staff checked me out. I wonder if the young lady was surprised at not receiving a tip? I can honestly say I have never not tipped someone. But I have also never been treated so rudely by a waitress. 'That Breakfast Place' should reconsider this womans employment, as she will likely lose more business for them. read more

I really wasn't impressed with this place :( the menu is huge and they have amazing sounding flavors of omelettes, pancakes, waffles, specials, and coffee flavors. But the taste just wasn't there for me. I tried the baked potato omelette that was stuffed with mashed potatoes, bacon, and cheeses. It was SO bland. My boyfriend said his omelette wasn't good as well. I also tried the banana split iced coffee and it tasted so fake and sweet, like banana laffy taffy. Not good and sickly sweet. I think we also tried a specialty bread which I thought was decent. All and all I think this is just more of a greasy spoon spot. read more

I had a mediocre week and was craving some really good eggs benedict. The eggs benedict was everything I wanted, warm english muffin with ham and a tender egg on top where the yolk gushes out as you cut into it. And it's drenched in sauce, just the way I like it. The flavor is on point and the texture was great. The reviews said the pork pie and specialty bread are good, so I got the pie and peach n'creme bread along with my eggs benedict. As for the pork pie, it was definitely well made, but it was a little bland. It could've used a few herbs or a bit of salt, otherwise the pie crust and filling are good. The dessert bread are more like moist cakes, sweet and a little greasy but tasty, the guilty pleasure type. It also had pancakes, waffles, omelettes as well as salad/soup/sandwich on their menu, standard stuff. This place is in the middle of a residential looking area, if I didn't check Yelp and saw pictures of the outside I'd have missed it. However, there was plenty of parking and the server was friendly/efficient so there's that. read more

This is my favorite place in the area for breakfast. I've gone numerous times and always get something different since they have a vast selection and specials. I've never had anything that wasn't high quality and delicious. I've brought friends and family and they too are always surprised. I've been more impressed with the breakfast than the lunch options but both are great. It gets crowded but is worth the wait. read more

Disappointed, been here before but something has changed. I don't remember the sautéed onions being slimy and used for omelettes and home fries. I didn't enjoy them and sautéed peppers in a western omelette. I also didn't enjoy them piled on my home fries. What happened to diced onions cooked with the potatoes. Just seems lazy to me. This place sucks. Yea the food is cheap and servers are friendly but the one I had was dumber than a rock. I asked for blueberries on my french toast and got what looked like cat throw up. I was absolutely appalled at what they call 'blueberry topping' I brushed it off the side and no one asked if anything was ok. Not even the creepy dude that stands around In the middle watching the place like a hawk. I know he heard me and knew I was upset but chose to ignore my complaint. Open for Breakfast (6AM-2PM) and Lunch (11AM-2PM) every day. Great food at great prices; always new specials listed. I've been for breakfast several times and it's always fantastic. Certainly there's some french 'home cooking' going on with the pork pie available for breakfast and the 'Pop-eye' egg style sandwiches (for those that have never had a pop-eye egg, or so my Memere called them, it's the center of the bread cut out to give way for the yolk to drop thru and fried up.... the best part is the buttery little center piece of the bread that they give you with it); ridiculous, the only place I've ever seen do this! If you're in the area and hungry you need to stop in, the staff is always smiling and helpful. If the weather is nice there are a few picnic tables outside as well. read more

Came here last weekend and I will say I was pleased. For a diner the food was pretty good. I ordered their big scramble with a variety of meats and veggies mixed in with scrambled eggs topped with cheddar. I was pleased. It is definitely on par with some of the other diners that I'm fond of such as Cosmic Omelet. My partner was also pleased with the food. Unfortunately, they were out of the zucchini bread I was hoping for, but I ordered a lemon poppy bread that was pretty delicious. I only managed to get through about half of my meal, but it held up and I was able to enjoy it for breakfast the next morning before work. I'd recommend this place. We arrived right around noon and there was no wait for seating. Our food came out in no time. It was actually almost unbelievably quick! One thing to note, for some reason there a few flies harassing us. No one else seemed to be waiving flies away so I'm not sure what was up with that. Overall I recommend this place. Really wonderful breakfast today. I had never heard of this place until I found it here on yelp. My boyfriend and I both ordered a breakfast special. I had the huevos rancheros it was wonderful. Second visit, second impression; still not sure what all the fuss is about, but; even on a busy Sunday morning (granted, it was early...about 8:30), we were "seated" quickly. I put seated in quotation marks because it was basically like our first visit -- a server saw us walk in and just pointed to a table from across the room. But despite this, our server was very friendly and nice. We got menus and coffee quickly. Everybody is rushing around. Table turnover is obviously key in this relatively small restaurant, and our food arrived surprisingly fast given the full dining room. A gentleman whom I assume was the/an owner, was helping seat people, as it did get increasingly busy during our short (35 minute) stay. Several parties were now waiting as we exited. This is definitely a locals place, as the gentleman greeted several of the arriving diners by first name, and warm hellos were exchanged. I should have tried one of the interesting specials. Unique, to say the least. But I opted for an omelet with spinach, mushroom, swiss and added tomato. It was perfectly adequate, but still pretty bland before adding pepper and some Red Hot sauce. My wife said her Western omelet was pretty good. I'll have to do another foliow-up. I've by no means given up on the That Breakfast Place. Maybe some lunch is in order. I just don't see it deserving all the praise heaped upon it for what has twice turned out to be, well...just a decent breakfast. read more

I called to order sausage biscuit gravy with home fries medium eggs. And waitress says my order back I said hey hey hey mam to stop her from hanging up. Because what I said and she did were two different orders. She accuses me of attacking her. Maybe if she listened instead of what ever going on I would not be accused of attacking any one. I went to That Breakfast Place last week with my boyfriends mother who was visiting from Long Island. It was my first visit there, and I will add that my companion can be a very picky and critical customer. As soon as we walked in we were greeted in a very friendly upbeat manner. We picked out where we wanted to sit, the specials were clearly visible on a board on the wall, and the waitress was there right away asking if we wanted coffee or juice. We both ordered from the specials and not because we couldn't find anything good on the menu, but because the specials sounded even better! They have a really expansive menu that is sometimes too extravagant in my opinion. But I'm a simple breakfast girl. The food is good and everyone is super nice but it gets crazy busy and they tend to cram everyone together in a very small space. I don't like bumping elbows with strangers while I'm trying to eat. Living within 12 minutes of That Breakfast Place for years and never thinking it was anything special, I found the yelp reviews and decided to try it. WHY did I not come here before!! The decor is old diner and it's only open till 2pm 7 days a week serving breakfast and lunch. Our waitress was super friendly and the menu extensive. Daily specials and an assortment of homemade breads (jalapeño bacon cornbread, cinnamon raisin carrot bread) are offered and updated daily. Had the California omlet and the potato omlet. Food arrived within ten minutes of ordering, Pancakes were below average, the syrup on the table was disgusting, two melted and coagulated butter plastic packages placed on top of my pancakes. My husbands omelet had cold ham, cheese, and vegs inside, barely buttered toast, and a smashed potato that was so unappealing it tasted as terrible as it looked. Server made us feel rushed. The owner of the business is the cheapest woman I've ever heard of, don't give her your money. I have given this place an excess of my business. Their daily specials intrigue me, and Nita's is closed on Mondays. I have brought new customers to them and dined here at least 3 times a month for the past 2 years. Their staff has gotten increasingly worse, along with the quality and quantity of their food My most recent experience is sure to be my last. I ordered a peanut butter banana pancake plate off of their daily specials board, but was told they were out of bananas. (Run to the grocery store to grab a bunch of bananas or erase it off the board) After finding a hair, about 2 bites into my second choice - a vegetarian omelet, my waitress took my plate to the back of the house and asked if I would like a recook. I didn't have time for that so I asked for my side of cornbread back. They grilled me up a new side of corn bread. (a noticeably bigger and better side than the measly half grilled one I was initially given) my boyfriend who had ordered the same dish realized there were no mushrooms in the veggie omelet -although the menu says otherwise. The waitress comes over with the bill to tell me that she would have comped my omelet of the bill but the owner declared the hair wasn't from anyone in the kitchen, therefore she is not responsible for it. First of all, this is your establishment - whether or not the hair came from the kitchen or the dining room, it wasn't mine, I didn't ask for it and it was on my plate. It is your responsibility to keep your establishment clean. Second of all you can't take my meal from my table, throw 4/5 of it in the trash and then expect me to pay full price. Thirdly, don't keep items on your menu when you are out of ingredients. Let me know that the veggie omelettes we are ordering won't come with mushrooms (I asked, they were out) and offer a replacement for the missing ingredient. When we asked to speak to the owner the waitress said that it wasn't a good idea to do so, because she would make a scene. (?) The waitress didn't charge me for the omelet behind the owners back and I will never give her another dime. read more

We just moved locally and I've been wanting to try That Breakfast Place. We walked in and weren't sure if we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. We stood at the door for at least 5 minutes. No one acknowledged us, many people saw us, and finally we decided to seat ourselves. The food was okay and portions were a normal size which I appreciate so we didn't waste a bunch of food. May return in the future, but may see what else is in the area first. read more
