We first ordered from Thaitation via Foodler on a Saturday night, based on the high Yelp reviews and an urge to try a new place in the neighborhood. Because of some snag between Foodler & Thaitation, however, the restaurant never received our order and after an hour and a half, we decided to cancel it. Nevertheless, we tried again on a Sunday night and were very disappointed with our meal. First, the Spring Rolls were soggy and without much flavor on the inside. My girlfriend was craving them and extremely disappointed. Some Spring Rolls are better than others, sure, but never before have we had a soggy one. The sauce served with them was also meh. My Tom Young Goong had decent flavor, but there were a bunch of different veggies in the soup (in addition to the usual tomato and mushrooms), which changed the flavor and not in a good way. I'm not a fan of filler veggies, so why add zucchini and squash slices to this soup? For main dishes, we had the Red Curry with Tofu and Drunken Noodles with Tofu. The Red Curry had good flavor and did not disappoint like the other dishes. But, we had to pay an extra $1.65 for the steamed rice, which is an integral part of a curry. The restaurant called us after we ordered to give us a heads up on this, but we were already too committed to the order - especially after the previous night's fiasco - to decline the surcharge. The dish was already $12 without the rice, so this bumps it up to almost $14. That's way high for a veggie curry dish. Given how cheap rice is, not much respect for a place that charges extra to get some with your curry. And finally, the Drunken Noodles were terrible. No flavor, just grease/oil and red pepper flakes. Neither of us ate much of it, and we were starving. Sigh. Highly disappointing. Definitely would not order from here again. read more

Ordered the Tom Kha Gai soup. It was way too sweet and had too many vegetables that added to the sweetness (little corn cob things). The larb was tasty. I ordered it with chicken, which I don't usually do. There were some hard pieces of something mixed in that I can only guess were ground bones? Dangerous to chew. Today I stopped by Thaitation for a quick lunch. I ordered a pineapple fried rice for $8.50. When the bill came, they charged me $9. I asked the waitress why she charged me $9 while the menu said it's $8.50, she went back to check the price with the menu and came back to tell me that the price on the menu wasn't updated. But she still gave me the menu price for $8.50 at the end. I also checked the math on the bill, the math is WRONG, the total price does not equal the price of the item plus taxes. The food is ok. If you concern about the price like me, make sure to check the price of the bill before you give them the money. read more

I decided I need a little feast of Thai apps, so I ordered delivery from Thaitation through Yelp. Everything was good. The dumplings and won tons had a great texture. The only thing I didn't love was the scallion pancakes, but I think that was just a bad thing to order for delivery. The time took away the crispness, and they didn't have a ton of flavor, but I would try them again if I went there in person. read more

I went to eat in a couple times and every time we were seated and got our orders right away. I get to Kau Gai with fried chicken every time. It is absolutely delicious. However, when i get the food delivered it always takes more than an hour and half. I had to call multiple times to see why it was taking so long. I guess the food makes up for the wait but I really don't like waiting. The people are very nice though so I don't feel frustrated as much. read more

Thaitation offers reliably good, reasonably-priced Thai food. I'm particularly fond of the gaprow chicken, which comes lightly sauced in a nice coat of spicy-sweet-fish saucy awesomeness. The country-style Pad Thai is a good change of pace from the usual dish, with little bits of fried turnip and just the right level of spiciness. I've never been disappointed by any of the curries or stir fries either. What's more, the service is polite and efficient and I've never waited on a table. Meh. This review is based on only one visit and one dish, so take it with a grain of salt (I think I probably just ordered the wrong thing, given the rest of Yelp is in love with this place). I got the Noodles Aspar for take-out at lunch, and I was not a fan... to begin with, there was not nearly enough sauce (and therefore flavor), and I also had a hard time figuring out what the sauce actually was because it didn't have a strong presence and was pretty watery (the menu just says "Chef's special sauce"). Props for including 5 large shrimp, minus for one of them smelling off (I ate half before realizing it too, grr). I did not care for the inclusion of lettuce in this dish... not sure if it was used as a garnish and just got swept up in the dish, or if it was an actual part of the noodles, but either way hot and slimy lettuce is not appetizing. Additionally, from the other reviews I was expecting to be able to get 2 meals out of this dish (which is pretty normal for me anyways), but I finished it in one sitting. And this may be just me being an idiot, but the container leaked all over my purse when I was bringing it back to the office (I kept it upright, but it leaked anyways). On the plus side, service was fast and friendly, the dining room looked cute and cozy, and they take LevelUp (a main reason I went there, so I could use the credit). Compared to my other (cheaper and more delicious!) favs like Rod Dee, Thaitation doesn't nearly measure up. However, I think I just picked a bad dish, and I'd be willing to have a do-over, especially with the LevelUp credit and proximity to LMA for lunch. read more

Thaitation is by far my favorite Thai place in all of Boston. The pad thai here is perfect in every way and is the best pad thai I have had in Boston by a mile. I sadly only order whenever I am visiting a friend who lives nearby the restaurant but if I lived closer I would be getting Thaitation weekly. In the interest of honesty I have never had any other dishes from here because I love the pad thai so much and its my go to but maybe eventually I will venture out and try some other things on the menu. I recently visited Thaitation twice in two days. On the first visit, my friend and I decided to veer away from pad thai and share two other dishes. The first was tamarind tofu, which turned out to be a generously portioned tofu-and-vegetables extravaganza in a slightly tangy sauce. We also got the yellow curry with chicken, which was standard but tasty. The following night, I returned as part of a relatively large group. We started with shared appetizers: green onion pancakes (not particularly Thai or particularly good, but sure), chicken and beef satay (protein plus peanut sauce rarely fails), and spring rolls (both with meat and vegetarian). We had a preset menu from which to choose our entrees. Having gone with two curry/saute dishes the previous night and feeling comfort food-ish, I decided to order the "country-style pad thai," which sounded like regular pad thai. I was looking forward to this dish, but was sorely disappointed. In fact, I think this may have been the worst pad thai I have ever had. The noodles were soggy and covered in some sauce that was one-dimensionally sweet. Even though the portion was (again) very generous and there was plenty of bean sprouts, crushed peanuts, chicken and shrimp, the extreme sweetness left a really unpleasant feeling after I had eaten my fill (hey, I was hungry!). Afterward, I really wished I had complained to the waiter and asked for something else. The guy next to me also ordered the pad thai and also was not a fan. The guy across from me ordered the drunken noodles, which came with lots of tofu and vegetables and was, though spicier than I could probably handle, actually very good. I would still recommend Thaitation, but - interestingly - not for the pad thai! Go, order a curry and/or another dish that sounds more interesting, and you'll probably have a nice meal. read more

I got the mango curry which I HIGHLY recommend. It was delicious. Their dessert menu was on the expensive side. $7.50 for a scoop of ice cream and few slices of fruit? Not worth it. The staff are very friendly, and I would especially like to thank the person who walked all the way out into the (limited) parking area in the back to show us where the restaurant's parking spots were. Food here was decent, though the flavors were not very distinct, in that they were no different from any other (slightly Americanized) Thai restaurant. But of course, if that's what you're aiming for, then this is a great place to get that kind of food. I think the best dish there for me was the chicken satay appetizer. The skewers were executed very well, the meat tender and juicy, but not overcooked. The hint of spices added a nice touch, as did the slight burnt flavor. And the peanut dipping sauce which came with it was very good. I like to look at all the variables when I do a restaurant review.That being said, I went to this place on a Sunday knowing full well that the B team works the line on Sundays in any joint. I ordered first because I had never been here and if I was going to send it back, I wanted to be eating with everyone else. Sure enough, I ordered a simple enough dish-mango curry, a freaking Thai STAPLE. My dish comes literally 2 minutes later and I look down at it and there are 2 or 3 plum tomatoes(cut in half) in the mix!! I picked the dish up, didn't even bother with the waitress, walked over to the back to the manager and said "what he hell is this?" and he looks at me and say "what, you don't like tomatoes?" I said, hello-look at YOUR MENU ! There are no tomatoes in this dish ! I like steak too but it's not supposed to be in here. Without another word, he took my dish, and later returned with a lovely bowl of mango curry. The food for the remainder of our party was fine, with the exception of someone going way too heavy on the pepperflakes on one dish-but they are the B team, so I am cutting them slack on that one.
