This place is right across the street from Parkway Plaza in a very small shopping center. When you walk in the place is decorated really nicely with nice art on the wall and flowers on the table. They greet you as soon as you walk in every time! During the week they have an awesome lunch special that includes soup, salad, an egg roll, cream cheese wonton and a generous order of what you order. I got the Panang Curry and it was so delicious! The pineapple was left out and when I told them they brought some over right away! The staff here really made the experience great. Whenever I'm craving for Thai food I usually order "to go" from this place if I'm not in the mood to cook. My daughter and I usually order our two favorite dishes from here: Pad Thai with chicken and papaya salad Laotian style with the crabs. They are true to their spice levels so we ordered both of these items at a spice level of "6", spicy enough to kick our taste buds but still allow use to enjoy the taste of these two dishes. Man oh man....I soooo wanted to love this restaurant because I'd heard so many good things about it and well, I read the reviews from the other yelpers. Not a leftover plastic grocery bag, classy for sure. I ordered the Beef Thai salad, an order of pad thai and an order of sweet rice, mango and coconut milk. That was outstanding and the mango was ripe and delicious. The disappointment was in the pad thai and beef salad. I have had many delicious versions of this dish, the best one was at the house of my friend Elizabeth.. Her mom totally, absolutely rocked this dish and since then I am on the quest to find another place that even comes close...this was not the place. The meat was served over regular iceberg lettuce which quickly wilted and the beef was greyish brown and looked like it has been heated up in the microwave. There was nothing grilled or tasty about it...the flavor was good because of all the lime but the meat was just sad. The pad thai was was bland as a cheese sandwich and granted I never eat it too hot and spicy...well, it was just lame at best...hmm...I will go back and try it again and give you all an update but for now...thumbs down on the food. Don't be fooled by the neighborhood and the dingy little taco shop next door. This place is definitely a hidden gem in East County. It made my friend and I so excited to try it today, it was bold because we had never heard anything about the place. Not to mention it's a pain to always have to drive out to San Diego to get good Thai food! I am obsessed with every Asian cuisine there is so this absolutely made my night. The owner lady is always there and is very very hospitable. The food here is so good, the biggest fresh spring rolls I've seen. I could get full just on that. Their curries and soups are great and they have this fancy pineapple rice dish that is served in a hallow pineapple that is good too. Try the mango sticky rice dessert, it's fantastic. So sad. My partner and I were excited to move back to El Cajon and order from Thai Time. We ordered the chicken yellow curry, specialty scallop dish, and the tom kha seafood soup large. The soup had 2 scallops and 2 mussels, and that was all the seafood. Usually, there is shrimp and squid too. Everything else in the soup was onion and tomato. The yellow curry was predominantly onion with two carrots and three potatoes. To boot, the lady who answered never asked how spicy, so everything was bland. :( The only tasty dish was #48 - scallops. But it was sweet and had no spice at all either. When we lived in El Cajon about 1-2 years ago, we ordered from them all the time - and they didn't skimp! I'm so disappointed. I used to eat here twice or once a week but the service and food has declined the past year. The food hasn't tasted the same. I order the chicken red curry and it's not consistent. I ordered the pad Thai last time and asked for a side of peanut sauce (I love the stuff! ) and I was told by the waitress that "it doesn't go with the meal". I don't care if it did or not I asked for a sauce please provide it for me while I dine in! the last straw was when I tried ordering for delivery as I live within the 5-10 mike radius and I was told they don't offer that service anymore. Little place about three tables wide between a taco shop and nail salon where you will get the most flavorful pad see iew (sp?) and they don't rely on heat for flavor. I wanted to introduce my husband to some authentic Thai food after dining at a great place with friends up in Huntington Beach. I knew with the right experience at a place down here, my husband would look forward to more Thai food adventures! I wasn't sure where to take him in San Diego, but wanted the place to be authentic, clean, decently priced, and have friendly service. I found Thai Time on Yelp with 4.5/5 stars from 160 reviews and decided it was the place to try - and we weren't disappointed! We started with shrimp spring rolls which were MASSIVE! You get 4 pieces, which would certainly be enough as an appetizer for 4 people! We enjoyed 2 each anyway! We each ordered our own servings of the combo meat Pad Thai... Staff was helpful in suggesting what level of spiciness to try for our first time eating there. My husband ordered a Level 1 and I ordered a Level 3. (Next time, my husband wants Level 3 and the lady said I would probably like Level 5 since I felt I could have gone a bit spicier...) When our plates arrived, we were blown away with our portions! After those jumbo shrimp spring rolls, we could have easily split a single order of the Pad Thai! This is in no way a complaint, though! I really wanted my husband to try mango sticky rice, so we simply had half of our Pad Thai dishes boxed for later. The lady was even so nice as to label them with which one was which in terms of spiciness. The order of mango sticky rice was the perfect size, with each of us getting half a mango and about 1/4 cup or so of the rice. So, the food was great! Authentic, fresh, and generously portioned! Staff was friendly and attentive. The place was clean with an A-rating in the windows and the prices are reasonable. My ONLY complaint is that it IS a tiny place and could see it filling up in nothing-flat! It's definitely a little easy-to-miss gem in East County - and I love that we live a whopping 2.5 miles from it! We will definitely be back to try more of their delicious dishes! The waiter is very friendly, and remembers us when we come in. . .Probably because my husband is so picky, but still, feels good when they can recall your order, and when you call in over the phone he asks "No cream cheese wantons today?" Those are amazing by the way, as is the spicy fried rice, and the pad see ew. . .I think is how it's spelled. I have tried almost every noodle dish, aside from chow mien, and they are all wonderful. I tried this place with my fiance last week on a whim and was totally blown away. I've been a vegetarian for many years and wasn't sure what to expect. I thought at best the only thing I could have would be some white rice and vegetables so you can imagine how excited I was when I see on the front of the menu "and Vegetarian food." Yay!!! I was stoked. We had the Massaman Curry and Sweet and Sour both made with mock chicken with spring rolls as an appetizer. Everything was insanely delicious, fresh, home made, AWESOME. I'm not big on mock meats but theirs is really great. There's no weird texture or after taste to it like some other restaurants. This is a small place and when we went on a Thursday night it was packed. It's clean, the prices are great, and the people who work there are so friendly.
