China 1968 -- 4 stars Rolled in midday after a morning surf and found a reliably solid neighborhood spot. We shared the sweet-and-sour chicken and sweet-and-sour pork -- both balanced acidity and sweetness well, with a crisp batter that held up instead of going soggy. Took the lunchtime special (just over $20) -- excellent value for a generous plate; left genuinely full and satisfied. Service was attentive and efficient without being fussy. Not a flashy destination, but smart, honest cooking that earns a regular on my list of places to haunt around San Diego. -- Captain 619

House Special Lo Mein

Our go to is always Panda or Chins but we saw this place nearby and decided to try it and it did not disappoint. Food tasted so fresh, wings were super crispy, and orange chicken had more than enough sauce. Rice and Lo Mei had great taste, especially the rice with all the different proteins they add. Service was good and prices were fair. The portions are big, definitely shareable. May look like a hole in the wall from the outside but it's worth the stop.

I ordered a soup but it came with a cockroach in it. Totally unacceptable if my wife or I get sick, we'll take legal action.

This review is based on the epic service we had on Christmas Day with a large group for lunch at China 1968. This is a very casual restaurant with delicious dishes and the ability to handle a crazy group of 13 people on a holiday. The service was truly seamless. We ordered a ton of food and it just kept coming as we passed dishes. Somehow our servers always managed to find a spot for each plate. I am very thankful for the staff who worked on Christmas to provide our group with a fun and delicious meal. My favorite dishes were the Hot and Sour soup, Mongolian beef, Egg Foo Young, Sweet and Sour pork, and Lo Mein. The egg rolls are big and stuffed with vegetables and you'll say you're only eating half but you won't be able to control yourself. Ok maybe that was me. They're so good!

this is one of the best chinese food places in san diego! all dishes were high quality, fresh, and tasty. generous portions for a good price and great service! definitely try their walnut shrimp and cream cheese wontons-- you won't find better anywhere else. i will 100% be coming back to this establishment, thank you!!

10/10 The best cream cheese wontons in the world.

Their server Gordon was amazing and super handsome. I feel everyone should go here and order their 100/10 cream cheese wontons!

Mushroom Chicken and rice

I was looking for take out Chinese and didn't want Panda Express so i decided to try this restaurant. I was surprised the menu was more expensive than most Chinese restaurants but I wanted to review it so I paid $20 for my dinner of Mushroom Chicken and rice. (See photo). This is an old school Chinese restaurant and my food was pretty bland. The hot sauce only helped a little bit but it is the number 1 reason for my 3 star review. The staff actually forgot my rice and had to bring it separately as I was leaving. For the price, I would not come here again. nobody was eating in, but there are a few tables there if you want to.

Hot & Sour Soup

That was lightning fast service! I walked in around 12:15pm. They had a brisk business going with multiple take out customers and at least 4 full tables. It was much nicer inside than the strip mall exterior implied. I barely had time to sit down before my order that I had just placed at the counter was ready. And it was piping hot! The plastic bag had condensation between it and the table when I ate lunch, The lunch specials are delicious and generous! They do give you soup with your to-go order which was a nice change from other places. I will definitely be back! The hot and sour soup had plenty of tofu and brown mushrooms but no black fungus. The flavor was well balanced. I had Szechwan Garlic Shrimp. The sauce was brown and I didn't see a lot of garlic but the flavor was very good. The onions and carrots were crisp and flavorful. The shrimp looked like 20 count shrimp so they were a good size and they were juicy and delicious. I chose steamed rice and it was good. My daughter liked the egg roll.

I have been coming to hands country for 3 years and never experienced this or observed it. The staff does seem to speak limited English and I think patrons see take this as rude. You should give them a try. The prices are excellent considering McDonalds is comparable in price for less. The food is consistently good and I've been here 30+ times. Yes if you go to mira Mesa or san diego you can get more authentic Chinese cooking but for American style Chinese utvis good. The portions are on the larger size. They are almost never full but its because they have so much take out orders that the restaurant almost always has space. It's always clean. Last thing I will say is my wife is Chinese so I have tried everything San Diego has to offer, and spent weeks in China. This restaurant in my opinion is very good considering the food taste and portions, price, good service and ease of parking with no waiting. If you haven't tried them you should, if you have and didn't like, give them another try. Skip a fast food dinner and give them another shot, for about the same price. I recommend them.

Surprised that on a Saturday night there weren't many people but then again it was lightly raining…read more It's in the Vons shopping plaza so s good location. Seems authentic based on walking in. Dad had sweet and sour chicken which he enjoyed. Vegetarian egg rolls were yummy. Mooshoo chicken delightfully messy and tasty. With respect to pad Thai, perhaps the Chinese version is meant to be different? Very spicy, heavy on noodles, had a lot of green peppers and very little chicken. No nuts. Not a huge fan of this style. But the moo shoo chicken made up for it.
