12/202025 found this Chinese restaurant on yelp In El Cajon California jut off the I 8 and hwy 67. Pn Broadway headed east. First off the staff was professional and polite. Nice decore and restaurant was clean . And there open from noon tell 9 pm. I Stopped in to get some beef low main noodles . They were very good . I usually get house low main. But I wanted to try the beef. Very good worth getting and highly Called the order in and it took 20 minutes witch was fine because I was in spring valley . Head back to Julian so I was able to stop on the way. I wll be back and I do recommend this restaurant. 5 stars for food staff and restaurant. read more

Awesome hole in the wall Chinese spot. This restaurant reminds me of all the chinese food i ate during my childhood. It had all the great classics but made them better. My favorites were the sweet and sour fish, the chicken wings which were huge and so crispy but juicy inside, and the honey walnut shrimp which were ginormous and hand peeled! Ate so much, but still felt great, as they most likely use less msg, which is better for my body! read more

I finally got to try this place, I had free time and no plans and I've lived by here for some time so it was the perfect opportunity to go and try it. I ordered the Beef Chow Fun and Cashew Chicken. The ambiance is what you'd expect with a whole in the wall Chinese restaurant. The staff were kind and patient while I figured out their menu. The Chow Fun was pretty good, Cashew Chicken was good but not what I had expected. Overall, I'd try it again. read more

Our go to is always Panda or Chins but we saw this place nearby and decided to try it and it did not disappoint. Food tasted so fresh, wings were super crispy, and orange chicken had more than enough sauce. Rice and Lo Mei had great taste, especially the rice with all the different proteins they add. Service was good and prices were fair. The portions are big, definitely shareable. May look like a hole in the wall from the outside but it's worth the stop. read more

This review is based on the epic service we had on Christmas Day with a large group for lunch at China 1968. This is a very casual restaurant with delicious dishes and the ability to handle a crazy group of 13 people on a holiday. The service was truly seamless. We ordered a ton of food and it just kept coming as we passed dishes. Somehow our servers always managed to find a spot for each plate. I am very thankful for the staff who worked on Christmas to provide our group with a fun and delicious meal. My favorite dishes were the Hot and Sour soup, Mongolian beef, Egg Foo Young, Sweet and Sour pork, and Lo Mein. The egg rolls are big and stuffed with vegetables and you'll say you're only eating half but you won't be able to control yourself. Ok maybe that was me. They're so good! read more

Beef was low quality as it cooled on the plate became very chewy. Recently had a similar quality meat at a Mexican restaurant after taking it home and reheating it turned to rubber. Daughter's chicken and broccoli left an aftertaste in her mouth and after I began eating more broccoli had a similar lingering soapy taste. Left all the beef just took the vegetables home. I would've left all the chicken too. Chicken was not quality, just a little weird and tasteless. The sesame chicken tasted a little better, but had the breading and sauce. Could tell the chicken was the same quality though. Very large portions were nice, but considering the quality of the food cannot recommend this restaurant at this time and would advise to avoid. I do not normally write reviews, but in this instance, extremely disappointed, considering the positive reviews are red, which led me to eat at this place to begin with. After leaving the restaurant, the funny taste remained in my mouth and after leaving the restaurant hello satisfaction, the food we just ate. Everything could use a good cleaning too. I been coming here for over 10yrs and they are pretty delicious...I am in love with the wor wonton soup here, add bbq pork to it ! Yum. They have other great dishes too. The food was great, huge portions! They don't have a family style type eating situation but you can make each plate a meal. The owners I would imagine they were the owners were very nice and it was a good time. I was surprised the menu was more expensive than most Chinese restaurants but I wanted to review it so I paid $20 for my dinner of Mushroom Chicken and rice. (See photo). This is an old school Chinese restaurant and my food was pretty bland. The hot sauce only helped a little bit but it is the number 1 reason for my 3 star review. The staff actually forgot my rice and had to bring it separately as I was leaving. That was lightning fast service! I walked in around 12:15pm. They had a brisk business going with multiple take out customers and at least 4 full tables. It was much nicer inside than the strip mall exterior implied. I barely had time to sit down before my order that I had just placed at the counter was ready. And it was piping hot! The plastic bag had condensation between it and the table when I ate lunch, The lunch specials are delicious and generous! They do give you soup with your to-go order which was a nice change from other places. I will definitely be back! The hot and sour soup had plenty of tofu and brown mushrooms but no black fungus. The flavor was well balanced. I had Szechwan Garlic Shrimp. The sauce was brown and I didn't see a lot of garlic but the flavor was very good. The onions and carrots were crisp and flavorful. The shrimp looked like 20 count shrimp so they were a good size and they were juicy and delicious. I chose steamed rice and it was good. My daughter liked the egg roll. read more

2/3/24 - we ordered about $600 of 1/2 trays for a private event. We went there a week earlier to place the order in. Everything was ready to go 1 week later at the exact time. We go here every year and never have issues. Wonderful people and great food. We ordered enough food for 50 persons. Check out the half party trays. Everyone enjoyed it. One of my go-to places for Chinese food whenever I'm in East County for sure. My partner usually likes Panda Express which I cannot stand! They are like Taco Bell to Mexico LOL. It can be more on the price your side but it is well worth it. I love their vegetable chow mein, it's not overly sauced or too dry. Highly recommend trying them out read more

My family ordered what used to be the best chicken wings we've ever had. We moved to San Diego 10 years ago and found China 1986, on our 2nd time visiting as we waited for our order my daughter and myself went out side and personally went over to a Mexican chicken chain sharing the same parking lot and told people to go over and try this restaurant. We ordered delivery yesterday and couldn't eat it. The chicken and fried rice were refried and you could see it the moment boxes opened. You could smell that it was cooked in dirty oil. We threw both out $43 in the trash. (Sorry we were at a friends and wasn't going to dig it out for pix) disappointing doesn't cover it . I will never order from this place again. read more

Great neighborhood spot that never dissapoints. We usually go for the lunch special between 11am -3pm daily. You get a choice of eggflower (egg drop) or sweet & sour soup, protein, and white or fried rice. For an extra $3, you can upgrade to house lo mein. The lo mein is really tasty and worth the upgrade. All the entrées here are great. Drawbacks: The fried rice is basic with no veggies and little to no egg. A few times, I have found the egg roll filling slightly over cooked and mushy. Small staff, which means if you try to have it delivered, you will be waiting for one of the servers to have a free moment to drive it to you. This place has one of the best fried chicken wings! I have been to a few restaurants that serve salt and pepper fried wings and these stood out in good flavor, nice crispy breading, and was able to keep moisture after reheating. The customer service here is outstanding and I appreciate how much effort they put into that aspect. The orange chicken is good. I personally would have preferred it to be crispier instead of softer. Fried fish is really good. Sizzling beef is good. Nice meat to veggie ratio with delish sauce. Crispy noodles is delicious. Szechuan beef is good but not as much numbing taste as we would have liked. They seem to give complimentary white rice? Very nice of them. Always a pleasure getting food from here. read more

Was in the area so decided to give this spot a try since it had some good reviews. Located in a small shopping center so parking is easy, customer service was good and restaurant was clean! We arrived right when they opened and was greeted right away. We ordered a few items off the menu: Chicken with mixed veggies ~ the white sauce had good flavor Kung pao chicken ~ I was not impressed at all Lo mein noodles ~ noodles were cooked al dente but was flavorless If I want my fix on Chinese Food, I will definitely be going to my GO TO SPOT Royal Mandarin located in National City. read more
