El JJ Speciality Sushi Roll and O.M.G Speciality Sushi Roll
Cesar P.

I really hate spending hard-earned money on bad food, and unfortunately that's exactly what happened here. Some of the rolls were decent, but nothing memorable. The black aguachiles were the real issue -- and the timing somehow made them worse. They were ordered as an appetizer, but didn't arrive until the end of the meal, and only after we had to track down what felt like a nonexistent waiter to ask what happened. When they finally showed up -- after about 45 minutes -- they were borderline inedible: rubbery shrimp in an oily, unbalanced sauce that completely missed the mark. Waiting that long for something this bad is impressive in the worst way. It tasted careless, not creative. To be fair, the restaurant was busy, but that doesn't excuse the rest of the experience. We also waited an unreasonable amount of time for a fresh drink, and the couple next to us complained as well. That tells me this wasn't a one-off -- it was a breakdown in basic service. When both the food and the service fail this hard, it stops being a night out and starts feeling like an expensive lesson. Santee has far too many great options to justify wasting money here.

7 Seas Spicy Miso Ramen

I Visited this restaurant for lunch and had the lunch special poke bowl. It was really good. It had several varieties of fresh fish with seaweed salad, avocado with eel sauce. They have a weekday lunch special and a Happy Hour every day from 2-5pm with some really good options. They also have lots of sushi roll options. It wasn't busy probably because everyone was out Christmas shopping. The inside is very nice inside and the staff were nice. I hope these guys do well, if you haven't been here give them a try.

Really wanted to like this place better. Im afraid it was just mid. Small. Crowded tables. Food was ok. Three shrimp flautas and one rubbery octopus tentacle for $47 including tip is crazy. The staff was nice and service was good...the only thing saving it in my opinion. Glad I tried it once.

Went in mid week for a birthday. So glad we went here, it's was our first visit. Everything was delicious. I did think the place was bigger but we got a table right away for five of us. We had little of everything, sushi, micheladas, teriyaki, campechana ... everything was amazing. The place has a Mexican fusion to it and loved it . Our waiter was very hospitable and friendly. I will definitely be back when in the area.

Spicy Tuna, OMG, A5 roll

Parking was easy since it was in a plaza parking lot. Seating was fast and accommodating. There were many tables open for a Mother's Day. We sat inside and there was music playing and a tv inside. Since it was our first time our server had great suggestions for the food we ordered. We started off with shrimp flautas & verde aguachiles. Both were great and delicious! Service started off really quick but really slowed down towards the middle to end of our stay which is what I really want to talk about. We placed our entree order at the same time as our appetizers. The appetizers came out quick and prompt but it was the rolls coming out that took extremely long. The couple seated next to us came in when we started our appetizers and finished their meal and even left before us. There was a good 25 minutes of us just sitting there waiting until our server came to let us know our food was still on its way. Another 10 minutes pass and they come back to let us know the kitchen actually lost our ticket. Now since they knew someone messed up, I expected our food to come out on the fly but no not quite, there were many plates that still came out before ours did. This restaurant is not big and since our table was towards the sushi bar & kitchen we couldn't help but notice. We also noticed how long plates would sit on the sushi bar waiting to be ran. In no way am I blaming our server, they weren't the one making the food, it's all about how it was handled. Lastly, there was a worker who looked like they could've been the manager - since the one seating us had to ask this person if we could sit in the spot we were seated in- they came around the tables around us checking up on them asking if everything was good or alright for them, not once did they come by our table and ask us the same. Sure this person could've been a server for a different section but then why go around every table around then skip ours? We found it off putting. Overall, food was good but it didn't really balance out to make the whole experience better. You could really tell when a restaurant prides themselves with good service and this place, unfortunately isn't one of them.

El Dorado Roll--spicy kick!
Lunetta P.

If you love fresh fish with a spicy kick, the El Dorado Roll is an absolute must. The fish tastes incredibly fresh and high quality, and the spicy flavors are perfectly balanced--not overwhelming, just enough to give it that delicious heat. The combination of textures, from the soft fish to the creamy and slightly crunchy elements, makes every bite really satisfying. It's rich, flavorful, and definitely one of those rolls you keep craving after you've had it. Easily one of my favorites

El Ranchero roll! With STEAK on top!

Food: We have been here twice now and both times, it has been great! I got the GOAT and the El Ranchero rolls, both were really good! They use a lot of weird different flavors in their signature rolls. My daughters liked their rolls too - El Jefe (a little spicy but good), OMG... they were all delicious! Oh and the garlic edamame... they put thin slices of grilled (I think?) garlic with it... we have fun just eating that plain! Atmosphere: It's a tight place inside, maybe 10 tables? They have some outside seating too, just be mindful if bringing a large party. They don't have too much spare room. Price: It's not the MOST expensive place I've ever been too, but their signature rolls all run around 20-25$. You can get simple rolls for 10-15$ which is more reasonable. It's not bad, but I would say it's perfect for how delicious it is. A meal for two is easily 60$ with tip. Service: Our server was friendly, no complaints! And the head sushi chef asked us how we liked our rolls at the end of the meal, that's a nice touch! Obviously there wasn't a crumb left so we loved the rolls very much. Overall: This place is a little trendy, vibey, tucked away in Santee. It's definitely one of our top 3 sushi places. I'd ask the chef to come up with more unique rolls and we will keep coming to try them!

Spicy tuna roll is yummy!!!

Our new sushi place we really enjoy and frequent once a week. The happy hour is solid and prices are great for what you get. The service from the Manny is phenomenal!! He is the manager and part owner. It's refreshing to get quality service these days & he does it right. The outdoor dining has two tables that has a gas fire pit in the middle of the table for those colder days. If you have not yet tried this tucked away spot, you need to!

Jasmine L.

This place is fairly new in Santee. My fiance loves it. She always gets the OMG roll and the vegetable tempura. She loves it! I tried the aguachile this time. It was nice and fresh and good but not my absolute fave. I think I'll stick to the Asian style cuisine here next time I come. But overall the food is always super fresh, it's clean, drinks are cold and yummy. I would recommend.

Carla L.

This place has very good sushi! If you like sushi this is a great place to go if you live in east county. Ashley our server was amazing. Also, super fast with her service. She's super friendly and amazing at what she does! Even when she's super busy she goes above and beyond to give you the best customer service. If you go to this place ask to be seated with Ashley or Mani both amazing people!

Aguachile Trio
Charlene L.

We came here on a Sunday at 2 pm because I saw they had a happy hour from 2-5. There is plenty of parking since it is in a shopping plaza. The restaurant looks very modern and clean. Leslie was our server and she was really nice. We tried the spicy tuna roll, philadelphia roll, and tsunami roll off the happy hour menu, and fresh wasabi, oysters, and aguachile trio. Everything was okay, not super amazing but not bad at all. The Philadelphia roll and spicy tuna roll were pretty standard but the nori/seaweed was a little soggy. The tsunami roll was the star of the show. I'm not the biggest fan of fried rolls but the tsunami roll had the best crispy tempura coating and stayed perfectly crispy through our meal. The fresh wasabi was okay. Fresh wasabi is usually really mild but they add horse radish to their fresh wasabi, which I enjoyed since it gave the nose burning sensation you associate wasabi with. The aguachile was okay. It had way more avocado, onion, and cucumber than shrimp, less than half of the dish was shrimp. They were also not spicy and needed some salt. It's okay that it needed salt though since it's not a cooked dish that requires salt throughout the cooking process. I liked the salt shaker though, it didn't pour too much salt at once. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and I would come back for the tsunami roll and to try different menu items.

Spicy garlic broth with thin wavy noodles and shrimp. The broth was rich and notably spicy. The shrimp were plump and very tasty. My only complaint was there were only three shrimp in the entire bowl. Outside of that it was a very generous portion and really good ramen. I added a side of steamed rice for a $3 upcharge. Didn't need it. I wasn't going to go without sushi, so I also ordered the Tuna Roll $8.00. Basic tuna and rice. Nothing special, no sauces or anything but cured the crave. We opened with the Creamy Lobster appetizer. It is pricey at $28.00 so it is a once in a while splurge. We used the excuse that it was Valentine's Day. LOL! Baby lobster lightly fried tempura style topped with special sauce. This is one of our favorite things on the menu. Perfectly fried and the sauce is divine! It requires 20 minutes cook time so plan accordingly. Becky chose her favorite and her go-to the Crunchy Roll $15.00 Shrimp tempura, krab, avocado, and cucumber, topped with tempura crumbs, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. She loves this roll and will never not get it. She added a side of Chicken Fried Rice $7.00. She likes to take a few bites then take the rest home for her lunches. She'll get a solid three or four meals out of it. Service at the bar was outstanding. Becky was given a small heart-shaped box of chocolates for Valentine's Day. We thought that was a nice touch.

About 10 minutes later, another waitress came over asking for our drink order, and we let her know someone had already taken it but hadn't come back yet. We were seated at a hibachi table and most of us ordered the filet mignon medium. The steak itself was tasty, but there were SO many garlic pieces on top, it was honestly a lot of garlic. The fried rice was okay, nothing really special, just egg, rice, and butter. We all received vegetables except my brother-in-law, and unfortunately nobody noticed or fixed it. The restaurant also felt a little dark and cramped inside, especially once it got busier. What felt awkward though was that by around 4:30 PM, the manager came over and basically told us they needed the table because they had more reservations waiting. We were already finishing up eating, but it had only been about an hour since we sat down. For a party of 8 on Mother's Day, it just felt rushed since most places usually allow at least an hour and a half. Overall, the food was decent and the hibachi experience was still fun, but the service and feeling rushed at the end made the experience a little uncomfortable.
