I am not an expert on Thai food. This has to be the best I have ever had. We started with #7 Tom Soya dumplings. So good and one serving is great for two people. Then I ordered the #44 Green Jungle but asked for chicken instead of fish. It was so great. My brother decided to go with a special of short ribs. Those as well were the best I have ever eaten. We sat at the bar and since this is my brother's neighborhood he and the owner and the staff chatted constantly. It was like being asked to their home for a meal. The chicken curry was much more expensive and was bland and it used to be amazing with tons of flavor. The spring rolls seemed like they were store bought and were kinda soggy. We drove a long way like 40 minutes to get this great Thai food. My sweet and sour soup was steaming hot and both dishes the yellow chicken Curry and the Pad Se ew with beef. The Thai dishes are over the top here and service is great. Clean restaurant and clean restrooms. Ambiance is quiet and relaxing so not a great place for young kids. Thai food has been my favorite cuisine for decades, even before visiting Thailand. Having discovered exceptional Thai restaurants in unexpected places like Sweden, I'm always on the lookout for great authentic Yhai food. I had the urge for Thai as I was heading home, and having driven past this place many times, decided to give it a try as it is the highest rated Thai restaurant in Dana Point. Unfortunately, I wish I hadn't stopped. While the food isn't bad, the dishes are so Americanized, they are disappointing. When a Thai restaurant doesn't even ask the level of heat you want when ordering traditionally spicy dishes; it's always made the same way, it's almost an upscale food court experience. The chicken satay was the most disappointing item, with the chicken pounded so thin, it didn't retain any juiciness and had a chalky texture. The pad se ew (drunken noodles) had an acceptable flavor, but was so bland without a hint of spiciness, I asked for hot chili paste. Having to add heat at the table instead of it being cooked into the food as it is prepared always results in an unexceptional dish. The Tom Kha Kai soup was the only item that I really enjoyed, though I would have preferred it a little spicier. But it had good flavor. The portions were on the smaller side, especially considering the price. When I spend $45 on Thai food, I usually am taking home enough leftovers for a couple of lunches. I walked out of here with barely enough for a snack. While the waitress was very friendly, this restaurant was overall underwhelming. I've been to the larger location in San Juan many times for dine-in and the smaller one on PCH in Dana Point for take-out both are really good although since Covid, Thai This prices has gone up over 40% for the exact same meal compared to other Thai restaurants, such as Thai Palace in San Clemente, has great food at a reasonable price. read more

Thai This was been an institution in Dana Point for decades. We are so thrilled they are back! They have a four seat bar like they used to have at the first Thai This. We love to come and enjoy good company and great food with Jib and Noi. So happy they are back in Dana Point. This is a smaller space and it helps it feel very intimate. It is easy to have conversations with your neighboring tables. Recently, Jib said to me, "I could retire but this is like my living room. I make great food and people come to visit." That's exactly how it feels. We are all extended family and Jib and Noi's amazing food and hospitality keep us coming back year after year. All of their best dishes are on the menu. My favorite is Drunken Noodle. My son's favorite is Perfect Harmony. The peanut sauce is some next-level flavor! read more
