Chicken Katsu | Sushi or Sashimi Combo (10pieces)
Zack R.

Decided to try this place again and this time it was sooo good. I came during their weekday lunch special Mon-Fri ~3.00 pm. I asked for some recommendations and ordered as followed--- The 10 piece sashimi combo ($32.50) , katsu curry ($16.50), and two orders of salmon sashimi ($9.00 x 2). The sashimi combo was chefs choice and comes with pretty standard sashimi options and was fresh tasting. The curry katsu was tender which was a good sign of fresh chicken because sometimes katsu can dry out. The manager told me the salmon was high quality and was cut that day so I ordered some extra and it was very soft and fatty tasting. As for the ambiance, it wasn't too crowded during lunch and was quiet + clean; so if you enjoy quieter places for lunch or do study it would be a good fit for you.

Stayed in Dana Point for our anniversary and saw this place after scouring Yelp. The reviews do not lie! This place was absolutely phenomenal, some of the best sushi I've ever had no doubt. The waitress was informative and helped us make tough decisions deciding between rolls because everything looked so good. Ended up getting sunshine roll, oh my garlic roll, blossom roll, and bamboo roll. 5/5 stars each roll hard to pick a favorite all were delicious. Enjoyed it so much we're going to go tomorrow for lunch lol Only negative was we came here at 8 at night, it closes at 9. As soon as we ordered at 810 a different waitress came to us literally right after we ordered and asked us if we wanted anything for last call bc the kitchen was closing..... at 810? When you're open til 9. Just slightly annoying especially in our situation because we did want another couple rolls after we finished our first four..... Other than that minor hiccup, everything else was top notch. Highly recommend. We're avid sushi eaters and this place did not disappoint

Receipt cut off, price cut off for some reason

Ordered via Uber Eats. The salmon sushi was low quality and half our order was missing. The receipt with what we ordered was cut off. So hard to try new sushi places because most of them aren't good. Was not worth the price. Spicy tuna had roll was gross and the salmon was the lowest quality.

Sushi Kara has turned out to be a step above Oeeshi, which had been here for the 20 years before it. The décor was updated and improved. It is lovely and welcome. The rolls that are offered and the sushi selections are better. They have several snow crab selections and several no rice rolls. These are really, really good. We have been very impressed with the quality of the sushi. The prices are higher, but I expected that for a new sushi place and for the level of quality they offer. We are getting to know them and so far, so good. We are happy they are here in SJC.

Came here for dinner on Friday. 5:45 was the perfect time because we beat the dinner rush. This place can get busy but that's how you know it's good! The service is also great. The staff is very attentive even when it's busy. The sushi was delicious. You can't go wrong with whichever you use. I especially enjoyed the popcorn lobster roll. They also offer no rice rolls so there's plenty of options depending on what you like! They also give you a generous amount of ginger which I prefer.

First time trying new place and they blew it out of the matter. Lucas was our sushi chef and he gave great recommendations and even ended us with an Off menu item. HALIBUT FIN!! If you're looking for a new sushi spot check this place out! We will be back!

We have been on the hunt for a "go to" sushi place near us. We initially tried popping into another spot nearby but they took themselves too seriously and weren't allowing for walk-ins on a Friday night, so we went here instead. We were welcomed with open arms despite them being busy and only had a marginal ten minute wait. Our favorite dish of the night was the 12pc chef's choice sashimi platter. It came with blue fin, yellowtail, Scottish salmon, albacore, ono and seabass. We enjoyed it all but what stood out was the scottish salmon, a fish I've never seen on the menu before. It was super fatty melt in your mouth, almost like toro! Our second favorite dish was the spicy tuna crispy rice - one of the most noteworthy ones we've had with fresh jalapeno slices on top and cilantro! They have a plethora of sushi rolls and for a visualist like me I appreciated the small picture associated with each roll leaving out the guestwork. The only reason I did not rate this place five stars is due to ambiance. Though no doubt cozy, their sushi bar is sterile (we love sitting at the bar) and you're blocked off from seeing the sushi guy work his magic behind the scenes.

We are frequent visitors to this plaza for the tea shop next door and just noticed there was a sushi place. We had picked up a menu to browse their options a few days before and decided to stop into lunch to check this place out. We found the lunch special most appealing, but it is only available on weekdays, Monday - Friday. There's good value in the meal sets if you happen to be in the area on those days. For our lunch, we decided to venture into their rolls. I love salmon anything and husband has been on an unagi kick, so that definitely informed our selections. Here's what we got: - Surprise Roll (spicy) under Special Roll ($15.00): Filled with spicy tuna, cucumber and steamed shrimp with salmon and avocado on the outside. Seasoned with a mustard soy sauce. - Dragon Roll under Special Roll ($18.00): Deep fried shrimp, spicy tuna and avocado inside, freshwater eel, avocado, eel sauce, and sesame seed on top. - For simplicity or the basic bee in me, a salmon cut roll with avocado ($6.50). The salmon wasn't as buttery smooth as I had anticipated and had a slight aftertaste that I was thrown off guard. I made a mental note to self that maybe I don't order salmon tings here or only get the saucy ones. Both special rolls were quite tasty and see us re-ordering these as staples. I'm curious to venture into the no rice rolls and their entrees. Until next time.

Extremely small rolls. Tasty though!

Fish has been mostly good quality both times I've ordered delivery. Girlfriend said that one of her items was off, but I thought it was good enough. -1 star for deceptive delivery item photos. Two of the rolls I've received were roughly half the size of those pictured.

Went for a hike and wanted my usual sushi afterwards. Found this spot on Yelp. Called in an order for lunch, wait time was 20 minutes. My order was ready when I arrived. Free plaza parking in same complex as Marshalls. Ordered a simple sushi lunch set, was only $13.50! Came with miso soup. When I first walked in, the smell of fish hit me, but the place seemed clean. Staff were nice. My sushi was delicious, would definitely come back when in the area.

Incredible find - Incredible Service - Incredible Sushi - Incredible Value Freeway close near Marshalls between I-5 and Camino Capistrano in SJC. BAKED GREEN MUSSELS & Baked Garlic Roll and life is wonderful thanks to SUSHI KARA!!

Yellowtail collar

Nice place. Fairly modern decor. Friendly and attentive service. I got there at around 4:30pm and I was the only customer. I got blue fin tuna, yellowtail, salmon belly, ono, and eel sushi. All were excellent. Especially the ono. I really like the chili on top. I also got the grilled yellowtail collar and it was very good and a generous portion. Will return for sure.

Stop by next door to get my nails done for a wedding and decided I had some time to kill before my next meeting so I stop by. Keep in mind this was after the lunch rush so plenty of seating and no wait time i got in around 2;53pm and was pretty happy to be seated right away. I was hungry and I missed eating here, prices were still affordable and delicious. My meal came out to be less than $25 and yes, that is with tip. I ordered an appetizer of Shrimp and Vegetable tempura, coke and a shrimp & veggies tempura udon. Perfect combo on a gloomy day, and honestly, I need to head here more often. I did past by the other day right before 6pm and there were people waiting outside for a table so it's a great spot. I'm telling you guys, its the go to place in SC. Their sushi is pretty darn fresh too, if you don't want to drive all the way to Irvine or L.A.

It does feel a little cramped inside but they do their best to accommodate as many diners as they can. The two servers were running around and being efficient and attentive as possible which I recognized and appreciated. Looking at the menu, they have a variety of sushi rolls and other non-fish options such as udon and teriyaki plates. Also, I felt like I was transported to pre-2010 days with the prices. Never seen a menu with prices under $15 for everything and $3.50 for a handroll? It's no wonder why this place is poppin. To be honest, while the fish quality is not stellar, it still tastes good and flavors are satisfying. Plus considering the price, you can't expect to have 5 star cuts. I would recommend the tataki special roll (spicy tuna with seared cajun tuna on top) and the baked salmon roll (CA roll with baked salmon eel sauce on top), these two were my favs. I would recommend!

I ended up here in the middle of the day while working in the area. Never been before. I try to avoid chains when I can and pick something new each time. This place caught my eye, and I'm glad I walked in. It's a small, family-run vibe -- and I mean literally. Looked like a husband and wife running everything themselves. They were both super polite, calm, and you can tell they really care about the food and about every guest who walks in. No rush, no attitude, just warm hospitality. I went with something safe for me -- ramen and salmon sushi. And both were just... really solid. Not overcomplicated, not trying to be something fancy. Just good food made right. The broth had depth, noodles cooked right, and the sushi was fresh with balanced flavor. No complaints there at all. The place itself is small. Not a big dining room. A few tables inside, clean but definitely more of a takeout-focused spot. They don't have a restroom available inside, which kind of confirms that they expect people to grab food and go. And honestly -- I would. Not because it's bad to sit there -- it's fine. But this is the kind of meal that hits even better sitting somewhere by the ocean with the breeze. I'd definitely order takeout from here and eat outside by the water next time. I paid around $30, which is very fair for the quality, especially in California. They do ask about tip at checkout before you get your food -- that part always feels a bit weird to me, but I get it. Overall -- 5 stars for the food and the heart behind the place. I'll remember it. And I'll be back -- probably to pick up a to-go order and take it straight to the beach.

Plenty of parking and jsyk there is no public restroom. As for the food, everything tastes great! You get a great amount of fresh fish for the most affordable prices in the area. The sushi rice tastes good and I appreciate how the rolls aren't stuffed w/ rice to make up for the lack of fish. I especially like the Aloha roll, Lollipop roll, Crunch (shrimp tempura) hand roll, and the sashimi & carpaccios are all fresh. Love how you can get pickled wasabi (real wasabi) for a reasonable up-charge. All of their salad dressings are made in-house too! Great place for a quick & casual bite to eat. They got treats for dogs and lots of friendly vibes to share. Super accommodating to all, and can confidently say that they treat their regulars so well. Always happy to support a local, family-owned business! Thank you :)

Sushi Speakeasy Bliss…read more Behind a locked door, we found a sushi speakeasy that felt like a dream. Just us, the chef, and the hostess--both sake sommeliers--delivering an unforgettable omakase and sake pairing experience. It started with a crisp cucumber salad and house-made dressings, followed by fresh wasabi so generous it deserved applause. The sake pairings elevated every bite, each one more perfect than the last. Then came the showstoppers: soft-shell crab with the best ponzu sauce I've ever tasted and five different fishes prepared as both sushi and sashimi, so you can experiment and compare. Amberjack shined until salmon--yes, the common salmon--stole the night, proving it could be extraordinary. The finale? Elevated takoyaki perfection. I'm scared to check the bill, but I'll be back for a celebration. Hidden gems like this don't stay secret for long. Reservations only and the hostess said they would open for lunch just for you.

I'm almost home and now I gotta cook dinner for one? Lame. I decided to get off at the San Juan Capistrino exit and find a place to eat. Turning to my trusty Yelp App I ran a search for restaurants. I get repeated "cannot log onto server" and realized that my Blackberry is being a total tool again. I pulled over to a random shopping center and stumbled on Sushi Tai. Now, I don't want to come off as a super flamer, but to be honest the thing that attracted me to this place were the two handsome sushi chefs. They looked mad cool. Real cultured fellows, like a couple of ex-Yazukas. I walked in and was seated immediately by one of the servers. I looked over the trendy menu and had a WTF moment. Bulgogi... Soju... Haemul pajeon... the menu has more Korean dishes than Japanese! I totally felt like I got tricked. Just then my Blackberry started working again. I Yelped the place to see what I was getting myself into and found out this place has '$$$$'. Damn you Blackberry. Had I known, my cheap ass wouldn't have walked in and sat down. I started to sweat bullets and the '$' lights from Bravo Burger seemed to taunt and snicker at me. As I was about to get up and make a run for it, a gorgeous blonde chick startled me and dropped off some water. "Damn it", I thought, "I don't want to look like a cheap-o, in front of this server. No turning back now." I looked through the menu and ended up going with the sashimi special + miso soup. The soup was a bit watered down and it wasn't anything special. When the server brought me the sashimi special, I realized I'm gonna need more food. The sashimi special was well presented and had 10 very thin slices of Salmon, Tuna, Albacore, Yellowtail, and Halibut. Typical Fishes. For 25 bucks, I was hoping I'd get to try a baby sea lion or Shamu. The thing that really stood out with my meal was the homemade wasabi. It hand a hand-ground texture and it didn't have a kick like most commercially made wasabi. It was a really pleasant balance. The sashimi was pretty amazing. The tuna melted in my mouth, as did the other fishes. All the fishes were very fresh and well cut. By the end of the meal, I realized that I was stuffed. I was thoroughly impressed. Overall I was happy with the service, cleanliness of the restaurant, and the taste of the food. My bill came out to be 35 bucks with tax + tip, which is on the pricier side. I typically wouldn't spend that much on a meal with just me and rather save this kind of money for a nice meal with friends or fiancé. But needless to say, I found a really good "Japanese" restaurant. As I walked out, I decided to swing by Bravo Burger anyways, just because I've never had it before and I was worried about getting hungry on the drive home. See Part II of my dinner tonight at Bravo Burger! A little about my credentials: I first got into cooking & food when I was in college. After being rejected by numerous girls and getting zero action, I decided it was time for a change. I needed a new makeover to boost my geeky, engineering image. I applied for a cooking position at a Mediterranean-Italian Restaurant near my home and learned to cook all sorts of pastas and dishes. I never became a professional chef, but I continue to enjoy & love food. 9 years later and 55 lbs heavier, I am now an engineer that travels all over the world trying new foods and learning about different cultures.
