The Pad Thai was perfectly balanced -- not overly sweet, not greasy, just bold and authentic. The Drunken Noodles had the perfect kick of heat, and the Panang curry was rich, creamy, and packed with deep, layered spice. Every dish tasted like it was made with real care and authenticity. Now let's talk about the lunch special -- absolutely unbeatable. The portions are MASSIVE, the food tastes amazing, and they even hooked us up with drinks with it! You rarely see that anymore. For the quality, quantity, and flavor you get, it's an incredible value. Service was warm, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. You feel genuinely welcomed and appreciated. Bellmore is lucky to have a Thai restaurant of this caliber. I've had Thai food all over Long Island and NYC, and this truly stands out. Highly recommend -- I'll definitely be coming back again and again!

The green curry was also delicious while some of the other dishes were bit or miss (roti appetite and pad Thai were just okay while dumplings were delicious). Going to cycle this spot as a pickup spot for Thai at home in the future but first impression and taste was sufficient to put them in rotation.

We had made reservation reservations for 7:30 PM. We ordered our drinks and appetizers which were very good. She spoke in English, but her accent was too thick that it was incomprehensible. When I ordered cold sake, the waitress informed me they only had hot sake. Then she told me she will bring hot sake and I can put ice cubes in it, quite rudely. It seems she misunderstood my wife and pointed a finger at my wife and said, " I don't give a shit if you don't come here again". She walked away. Then the chef came out to ask us what the problem was. We told him we had no issues with the food was very good and we weren't sure why the Waitress was upset. Probably she misunderstood English or had a hearing problem. When the main course was brought to the table, our friend asked that another Waitress, who brought the food as to what she was putting in front of her. The second Waitress was not polite either. She brought a soya bean made dish. My friend had ordered a chicken dish. This Waitress took back the plate and she realized that she had brought the wrong order of another customer. Instead of apologizing, she just went to bring the chicken dish. Our evening was ruined by bad service and bad behavior of the staff. The chef came out of the kitchen and he told us that it's OK with him if we don't come back to his restaurant again. We were all stunned at what we were hearing. All six of us are of Indian origin. This was a classic case of racial discrimination. We would never visit Hug Thai if it was the last Restaurant on this planet, even if the food was free!!

Tucked into a row of small local businesses (a rarity these days on LI, the land of huge strip…read moremalls with big box stores), sits Thai Station, a humble little restaurant that offers up a pretty big menu of Thai staples as well as some less easier to find dishes, like my favorite, Tao Hu Hor (bean curd sheet with spinach and mushrooms). What makes it even better? The nicest service that you can imagine. I know they have a huge takeout customer base, judging by the constant dings coming in through the computer and the restaurant was empty when my father and I walked in for a late lunch/early AF dinner (5:30 pm). I always prefer eating at a restaurant to takeout/delivery and although the space is pretty basic, it's well-decorated and comfortable. I didn't expect them to have alcohol, but they do have beer and wine, not a huge list or anything, and I wasn't drinking anyway, but nice to know. My dad got his favorite: massaman beef curry and I got the Tao Hu Hor. It came out quickly, which was good as I was on a time crunch and needed to get back to work. I knew as soon as I laid eyes on my food, it would be good and I was correct. Gorgeous little bundles of veggies smothered in black bean sauce, one of my favorite flavors and in addition to the bean curd skin that wraps around piles of spinach and mushrooms, there's also slices of bean curd, so this is a plant protein powerhouse dish. And absolutely delicious. My father almost lost his mind over how good the sauce is and I think he may consider ordering it in the future (he's a devout meat eater so this is unusual, heh). I'm so glad to have a new LI discovery. We'll be putting this on regular rotation when I'm in town.

***INDO-CHINESE FLAVOR BOMB IN YOUR MOUTH*** ***SUPER…read moreFRIENDLY FAMILY-RUN RESTAURANT*** INDO-CHINESE? In the early 1800's a large number of Chinese citizens, immigrated to Calcutta, a city in the northern part of India, close to China. After becoming established, many of these immigrants started opening restaurants to support themselves. And then, because of a lack of certain ingredients, and to tailor the food to the palates of the Indian citizens, these Chinese chefs altered their recipes. And these new recipes, incorporated certain Indian spices, and a heavier use of spices and sauces - which made these new style dishes especially appealing - and created what is known today as Indo-Chinese, or Indian-style Chinese food. MASTER CHEF MIKE TENG Mike Teng, son of Hakka Chinese parents, was born and raised in India. He started cooking at 14, and eventually became a head chef preparing Indo-Chinese food in Mumbai. Then in 1984, he emigrated to the US and worked in the restaurant industry, until he became executive chef at the famous Jade Eatery & Lounge in Forrest Hills Queens. And it was here that he became notorious for his unique cuisine, and went on to receive numerous accolades. A DIFFERENT APPROACH After seven years of grueling work at Jade, Mike decided to take a break from the restaurant industry for a while. Then in 2019 he opened Teng's Restaurant, and set up operations in a way that would minimize work. As such, the restaurant would only open for dinner, between 4-11 PM, and there would be minimal table service. So let me explain how this works: You sit down at a table, and a friendly family member takes you order and helps with recommendations if necessary. And then you grab paper plates & cups, and plastic utensils from a shelf by the front counter. There's also a refrigerator here with drinks to choose from. And then the food is served to you at the table in take-out style containers. THE KEY TO ORDERING HERE There are a relatively large number of items on the menu, but most of the dishes can be broken down into a few different styles, such as Hakka Chili, Manchurian, Salt And Pepper, Orange, Szechuan, Basil, Kung Pao, and Ginger & Scallion. And the key to ordering here is to avoid choosing multiple dishes in the same style, as the meal & flavors can become one-note in nature. But if your vigilant, and pick some of the best items from each style, you will be rewarded with an Indo-Chinese flavor bomb in your mouth. FIRST TIME? GIVE THESE A SHOT So a few recommendations to try on a first visit, if you're able to enjoy spicy foods would be: - Hakka Chili Style Chicken or Beef - Salt and Pepper Style Fish Filets or Chicken - Orange Chicken or Kung Pao Chicken - Manchurian Style Fish or Chicken - General Tso's Chicken or Tofu - Ginger and Scallion Chicken - Szechuan Wontons or Momos - Orange Glazed Wings or Hakka Chili Wings - Basil Fried Rice - Hakka Noodles And here's a few vegetable recommendations: - Manchurian style Cauliflower or Salt and Pepper Cauliflower - Szechuan Potato or Potato with Black Bean Sauce - Spicy Stir Fried String Beans. - Mapo Tofu - Manchow Soup with or without meat YOU'RE PROBABLY GONNA LOVE THIS PLACE After many visits here with dozens of different people, I've noticed first-timers always react the same way when trying one of chef Teng's best dishes. Their eyes open wide, and the head starts slowly shaking side-to-side, and then I hear grunts of mmm! or wow! I mean really, it never fails to be a wonderful surprise for everyone. But don't get me wrong, not everything on the menu is a home run. For example, some of the Asian fusion dishes such as Pad Thai or Mango Chicken are just weird. So even though there are some things to overlook here, such as no lunch service, or the cafeteria style vibe, If you choose some of the chef's best dishes, for sure that flavor bomb is going to hit you right in the mouth, and you'll definitely be coming back here for more. I always do.
