So I may be a little spoiled and biased because I am use to heavenly Thai food in NYC so keep that in mind while reading :P The place is okay, I had the shrimp pad see ew and it was way sweet. There was a good amount of seasoning but you can taste the sweetness in the noodles that threw me wayyyy off. I also ordered the samosas which were actually not that bad. I would give those a thumbs up. In my opinion, if you are craving Thai food and this place is close to you then definitely go for it. But if you are looking for amazing Thai food and good atmosphere, ehh I wouldn't try this for a great experience. I ordered the yellow curry & it was literally curry sauce with tofu & a few onion slices. I expected some vegetables but maybe my expectations are too high. Over the weekend, I came up to Salt Lake City along with two of my friends to spend three days at the Miller Motor Sport Race Track for the AMA Racing. Being from Las Vegas, we were skeptical about finding good Thai Food in SLC. I am not saying Las Vegas is the Mecca of Thai Food, but we have vibrant Thai Food scenes compared to SLC. I ordered the Massaman Curry with Beef, and the curry was just perfect. It has the right amount of heat and flavor. It is also not sweet, which is my criteria for authentic Thai Food. My other friends ordered the beef with Pad Phik, Chicken with Yellow Curry, and Chicken Pad Thai. The portion for each dish was enough to feed three people. This place is definitely on my list of favor places to come to the next time I am up in SLC. read more

This is my absolute favorite Thai restaurant! I can't help but always compare them to other places and no one ever satisfies me the way Thai spice does. My go to plates are the pad Thai with shrimp (which are jumbo shrimp FYI so they aren't stingy with shrimp) and the yellow curry with chicken and shrimp. They give hearty portions for the price. The egg rolls are super good as well. The best part is its locally owned and the owners are usually in the back cooking so you know it's homemade cooking. And great service every time I come in. I always go with a beef noodle dish like pad khi mao, a chicken curry like massaman, and a stir fry. it always has the right balance of sweet, spicy, sour, and salty. chains like thai Siam win awards because they have large marketing budgets or they know a 'guy' - it isn't because of their food. stick with the small, family run restaurants like this one. read more

I ordered take-out from this place about a year ago. But then I forgot about it, which was about the dumbest thing ever, since it's close to home and would prevent me from whining that there aren't any good Thai places near by. Fast forward to just recently, when I wanted something easy and delicious for dinner and was complaining to my girlfriend that there weren't any Thai places closer than Sugarhouse. Suddenly I remembered Thai Spice, and all was right in the world. I called in an order of chicken panang curry to go, and they had it ready for me 15 minutes later. I certainly appreciate the convenience, but the food is delicious, too. I've had both the panang and pad see ew, and both were absolutely delicious. Random side note: I love that they substitute water chestnuts and green beans in the panang curry versus the common practice of using green peppers. I'm picky about my Thai food. I was introduced to this place in 2007 by someone from my company. So glad to have found them. I try many Thai places and this is literally the only one I return to in Salt Lake or Utah county. My wife and I like them enough we had them cater our family wedding dinner and everyone loved them and fought over the leftovers. We will continue to come here as long as they're open. read more

Technically, this place should get 3.5 to 4 stars because our service was surely and disinterested, but the food is amazing so I can't rate it down. The portions are enormous and the price is excellent. (Averaging $8.50 per vegetarian entree.) The waitress recommended the red curry, and added pineapple per my request. There was an option to indicate my spice preference, but it was perfect. Literally better than all red curry I have eaten before! And I've lived in Boston, San Jose, and NYC and this was the best. Creamy, rich, amazingly spiced. Delicious and perfectly balanced. We order the pad thai as well, always a good bellwether to test a good thai place. Our favorite Thai Restaurant in Salt Lake City! We do annual ski trips and this restaurant is always on the list for group dinners at the restaurant or take home. Everything is delicious! We do family style dining, ordering a ton of different stuff and then sharing it. The price is soooo reasonable, in fact, CHEAP. I love that it is a family run business. There are way too many yucky restaurant chains in Salt Lake City. What's up with that?? Local people need to reach out more to independently run restaurants. TIP 1: They do NOT serve alcohol, however, you are welcome to bring it in from outside, they don't charge any annoying corkage fees. TIP 2: Spicy level goes from 1-10, their own spice level is not as bad as some of the other authentic mom and pop thai restaurants. We had one dish that was at a level 6 and one at a level 10. Although spicey, it was still edible, so go for it! TIP 3: Because it's affordable, this is a great place to bring a big group of hungry skiers. You get great portions and it's really priced well. First I must comment on the horrible service. There were four tables with parties at them and one server. Not horrible...totally manageable in my opinion. Apparently not for the one server working. The server seemed more preoccupied with studying a textbook than serving the tables. When we arrived he glumly sat us at our table. From there it took us 10 minutes to even be greeted. We ordered a Coke, an order of eggrolls, and 2 orders of Pad Thai. After another 10 minutes without my Coke I started to get frustrated (especially since the server was sitting at a table--in plain sight--reading a textbook). Ummm...shouldn't you get me my Coke BEFORE you study? Eventually he got up to help with another table so I asked a second time for my Coke. This time it came out. The eggrolls came out at the same time as our entrees (which isn't a huge deal). The eggrolls had some meat in them that was cooked in a spice that completely overpowered every other flavor in the roll, as well as the sauce. It wasn't subtle enough to be enjoyable and I didn't finish it. However, my friend did enjoy it. I ordered my Pad Thai hot. It wasn't spicy at all....which always bugs me but seems to be the norm in Utah. It did have a decent flavor though and I enjoyed it. We were finished with our meals for quite awhile before our check finally came from our sullen server. Overall I will most definitely not be returning. I've eaten here a few times and the food is always delicious. I've tried Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, yellow curry, basil fried rice, sesame chicken, and a few others. Pad Thai, yellow curry, and sesame chicken are my favorites. SO GOOD. We order the dishes to share and I can eat them all together. The portions are big, so I always end up taking some home- but I love it. Leftovers for the next day, which are just as yummy! Service is great. Always seated promptly and given water right away. If you ask for recommendations, they suggest the most popular or chef's favorites. We've never been disappointed. Prices are reasonable. I overheard a table asking why they were charged for rice, but most restaurants I go to charge for the rice, which is only about $1-2 per serving. Imagine a table of 20 came in and the amount of rice that needed to feed them, and then giving it for free. I don't have a problem paying for the rice, the dishes are great enough to pay the extra dollar. Will be returning at least twice per month (when I'm in the area!) :) read more

I come here for lunch often and it's probably one of the best Thai places in Utah. The lunch special combo is such a good deal being only 6.99 it comes with rice salad and 2 small entrées of your choice. I recommend the yellow curry or the himmampan, the pad Thai is also really delicious. The service was really good. I only saw one male server and for almost being a full house and running from table to table and getting everyone's food out he handled everything by himself quite well. Thai Spice is a little secret. Their Pad Thai really shines and I have to say it is one of the best in the valley. Their Tom Kha Gai (sp?) is also excellent. Every other dish I have had here is at least competent, but it may not be my first choice for for some of the Curries, but I have yet to have a bad meal here. When my mom comes to town she insists that we go for Pad Thai. My sister in law, who doesn't like anything that has touched fish, fell in love with the Pad Thai also. There are a lot of good Thai places in Salt Lake, and a lot of mediocre offerings (Oh, how the the mighty Thai Siam has fallen), but Thai Spice is one of my favorites. Also, it is usually quiet and they have accommodated me by myself, or with a group of 10 people. This my first time to Thai Spice. It is a fairly small basic decor Thai restaurant but nice and quite, well until the baby at another table let lose about his opinion about the food and lack of noise. Albeit, I could not understand his very loud gibberish he obviously liked the food for he could not get enough and his mother did do what she could to bring the level of noise back below the level of a jet taking off. Service was friendly but not overtly so and the prices were very reasonable. Now to the food. I had chicken satay for an appetizer and it was average. The chicken was moist and tender, and the spices good but the peanut sauce lacked thickness and flavor I have become accustom to. The main meal moved up a few notches and was much more pleasing to the taste buds. The yellow curry was subtle, flavorful, and built slowly in temperature. Very pleasant and enjoyable. I did like something they do that most restaurants don't anymore. They served a pitcher of water, without ice or additives and leave it on the table. It was very refreshing, clean, and simply enjoyable. Funny how a simple process can add to the pleasure in the dining experience. This really is a three and a half star experience. Is this best Thai restaurant in the market? No. You can pay more and get more, but for the money it was very good. would I come back? Yes. Should you go? Give it a try, I do not think you will disappointed. I will have to try a few more dishes to give it more stars. read more

This was the worst Thai food I've ever had! The pad Thai was bright orange and soggy. The mango coconut sticky rice had unripe, crunchy mango and it was drowning in coconut cream. The fried rice was bland. The massaman curry had very little potatoes and weird meat. I spent $50 and it all went in the garbage. I went here because so many reviews said it was authentic. I've been to Thailand, I've had Thai food from many restaurants here in the states and I've never had anything close to what was give to me at this restaurant. It was terrible! read more
