Easy to spot location (even with all the construction going on in Denton). I was greeted at the door and seated near the window of the restaurant. The waiter took my drink order and I also ordered the curry puffs for appetizers. My meal also came with a small salad with a peanut sauce dressing. Salad: very colorful, lettuce, cabbage, carrots topped with a sweet peanut sauce dressing and more crushed peanuts, if you're allergic to peanuts I would highly recommend letting the waiter know. Curry Puffs: if you look in the picture I posted you see the numerous layers of flaky goodness that the curry puffs had. The inside filling was a sweet curry sauce with potatoes and chicken, while the filling was sweet it was a very pleasant surprise to the savory golden fried goodness of he curry puff. GET the curry puffs. Pad See Eew: I love flat noodles, I always order the Pad See Eew at Thai restaurants and can't bring myself to order anything else. For the noodles you get the choice of pork, chicken or tofu, beef for and extra $1 and shrimp for an extra $2. I opted for the tofu (beef is usually my go-to but I didn't want to pay the extra $1). Their tofu was delicious and they didn't skimp on it. The pad See Eew portion was also very filling and I was able to eat a piece of tofu in every bite. The service was great, my waiters where very attentive. Awkward story: I was waiting for all of my food to come out so that I could take a cool Instagram photo of all of the dishes, aka I didn't eat anything and was waiting for it all to come out. Unintentionally I confused the staff because they kept coming over to see if I was alright, I finally realized that I didn't tell them that I wanted all the food to come out at the same time, and they where waiting for me to finish my appetizer (the curry puffs). As soon as I told them I was waiting for all of the food,they quickly went to place the order for the pad see Eww which came out pipping hot in just a few minutes. To say this rating needs 5 stars is an understatement. Do you know how long it's been since I've had a good curry soup? I've recently moved back to college, so this was a "home away from home" meal for me. I've spent most of my time looking for a really nice Thai place and, so far, the ones I've gone to were not hitting the spot for me. It's sad to say, but I hesitated ordering from here because of the negative reviews. Now, I ordered the Pa Nang Chicken Curry (Level 5 because I'm an Igbo ghel) with brown rice and everything went well. Granted, it did take time but the wait was worth it. The food tastes phenomenal and the quality was exceptional, so I definitely will be ordering a lot more often. Be expecting to see my name on your machines, I apologize in advance lol. Ok, I have to admit I am a bit of a Thai Ocha FAN! I LOVE this restaurant! Mainly because it is not your typical chain restaurant. The wait staff are exceptionally nice and if you eat there enough they learn your name, favorite drink, etc. It is a small place but seating is not usually a problem. There is a good selection on the menu. While I have to admit I have had a couple experiences where I asked for my food to be spicy mild and it came out too hot, they were apologetic and corrected the dish for me. I have been to more expensive asian theme restaurants and Thai Ocha blows them away with superior prices and service. In addition, the place typically is quiet and lends itself to a more relaxing atmosphere. I would highly recommend it to anyone that is in the mood for Thai!!! read more

Got the house salad. Was huge. Two people sized with fresh veggies and even avocado. Peanut sauce on the side. Would order again. Got spicy basil rice. Didn't know it came with a protein. Bonus. Chicken was cut to a nice fork size and tender. Needed a lot more basil though. If a little is good then a lot is better. I added some of the peanut sauce from the salad and it was very good. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed my visit to Thai Ocha... But I'll try. It's a cozy informal mom and pop Thai place. The staff are friendly and happy quick and naturally skilled servers. The decor and atmosphere are ultra casual. I see it's a bring your own but I just drank water. The menu is perfect! Don't change a thing. I had a wide noodle dish and asked for spicy and that's what I got. Beef Pad Eew with extra spice and it was so good I inhaled it. Arrived around 8pm and got seated immediately. Upon entering, the place was clean and the decor nicely done. We ordered crab fried rice, pad woonsen with chicken, red curry with shrimp and pad Thai with beef and chicken (requested no tofu - it comes with it). Everything was fresh, hot and flavorful upon arrival. Portions were plentiful, so there was more than enough for three of us. We ordered our dishes level 1 on spice and requested fish sauce with red chili on the side so that we could each control the heat and add extra flavor. We asked for three extra plates so that we could share the entrees and try the variety of dishes. We enjoyed our meal and left fully satisfied. Nothing special about this place. It was a hot day and the AC wasn't strong enough. They put fans here and there but it was still uncomfortable. We ordered all of our dishes medium spicy, but the papaya salad came out insanely spicy - took us 3 glasses of water to cool down. So I asked the waitress to change the rest of the dishes to mild because medium was not edible. She said not to worry because the papaya salad came spicier than other dishes and should only be ordered "mild". The food is really good here. IMO this is the best Thai food in Denton ( I have been to the other 3). If you have the time I would highly recommend you stop by Thai Ocha. The word is definitely out so they stay busy. The don't have many tables so be prepared to take your food to go. Solid Thai food. Building is a bit sketchy And it is behind the title max location. But , the food is off the hook. Spice is as advertised. Say 2 get in my opinion a two. Actually give you a little sweat. Super tasty. Had fried rice and ginger beef. Both great in their own right. Plenty of protein for a Texan and veg fresh, colorful and crisp hot. They know what their doing. This is a wonderful place service is outstanding. Glass never got half empty and full again. Not fancy but whole solid Thai food. Fair price. I used to enjoy this place, but either new cook or new management has changed things for me. Where I used to be able to request and receive a Thai level spice, the past few times I've ordered have been bland. It certainly seems as if they are catering to the perceived American palette. Portion sizes have also diminished...probably won't be returning. Also, several dishes had chips, chairs are wobbly, and it has a tired feel. My Yelp rating scale guidelines (based on similar price/service areas. Im not comparing McDonalds to a 5 star fine dining place!) 1 for atmosphere. Is it new and trendy? Does it fit with an ethnic motif? Is it upscale, is it a dive (in a good way). 1 for service. You can have a great meal with poor service, but that also differentiates a five star from a lower rating. 2 for food, because that's what we're here for. How does it taste? I had been looking forward to eating here for a while. I finally got a chance last week but there was an event crowd there and no tables were available. I went back today and got a table for a Friday evening dinner. I had the impression that Thai Ocha was the top-notch Thai place in Denton. My hopes were pretty high and I had looked through all the reviews and pics to have some idea of what to expect. The menu choices are a bit different than the typical Thai/Chinese place around here. You won't find General Tsao's chicken, Kung Pao, etc. They have a good selection of various curry dishes, seafood, noodle dishes, and stir fry. I started with a cup of vegetable soup. The soup seemed like a hot cup of mild chicken or vegetable broth with a handful of fresh veggies dropped in. There were a few chunks of cabbage, a few mushrooms, some onions, and a few other things. The soup was very mild and to be honest it was bland. I had to ask for soy sauce and chili sauce to spike it up to add life to the otherwise boring soup. For the main course, I ordered the Basil Duck stir fry with brown rice. I wanted the Tamarind Duck dish but they were unwilling to substitute the Tamarind sauce with the Basil sauce so I just went with the Basil Duck dish. I ordered it "Level 4 of 5: HOT" on the spice meter. The dish ended up being disappointing. It containted a small amount of duck and it had a lot of gristle and the skin was soggy. The overall portion of the dish was smaller than expected considering a $13 dinner plate. It had a nice basil flavor but it was overall very mild, almost bland. It had zero spice - none at all. The server must have forgotten to put the order in as HOT because there is no way this can be the intended spice level. My wife ordered the Red Curry Duck dish. She ordered it "Level 1 of 5: MILD" and it was mild but still spicier than my HOT spicy dish. Something didn't go right with the order processing. The dish was served in a bowl with curry broth but we were under the impression that it would be a stir fry dish. But, it was good to pour the broth over the rice. The curry was actually pretty thin and watery. This dish was once again very bland and only contained a few bits of soggy duck. Overall, I was disappointed. Every dish we ordered was bland and the price was pretty expensive for the meal we were served. There are at least two or three other Thai places in Denton where I've had much better meals. But, I'll probably give Thai Ocha another chance because perhaps I just odered something that wasn't the best choice for my pallet. Next time I will stick with something a bit more popular like the Pad Kew Mow or Fried Rice. read more

Very good food here. We started with the shrimp rolls and found them delicious. The shrimp was seasoned well. I ordered their combo fried rice which included beef, chicken and pork. I like my food spicy so ordered it at 5. I couldn't finish it because it was a big portion. My wife ordered the spicy basil chicken fried rice and she was very happy with her dish as well. Does anyone ever comment on water? Most places I go the water isn't drinkable. It was actually good here. I think next time I come by I will try something new. Hands down the best Thai curry. I prefer the green my husband loves the duck curry. We have tried other items on the menu as well. The Tom Kha with vegetables is so full of great veggies with a variety that you don't see many places. We have been going here for years.. Always good food - no complaints there. However, even before COVID the service has gone downhill. While dining in it takes an act of Congress to even get a refill let alone your check so you can pay and leave. Now with COVID, the service is still bad and continues to get worse. I will still try them again but if the service is still bad we are going to have to find a new place to go.. **Edited to add: we eat here once a month - and we have been since it's gone from no dine in to dine in again to no dine in.
