Thai Mukda is a little restaurant in a strip mall. It seats about 24 people. We walked in and a person behind the counter came out to seat us and give us menus. He asked for our drink order and gave us time to make our choices. When he brought us our drinks, we were ready to order. There are five spice levels to choose from! I had an appetizer as my entree and didn't need to choose. My husband chose medium and it was just a little bit of a kick. We didn't wait long for our food to be brought out. It was SO good! We also had a little sweet bite afterward. We were very full when we left! I honestly don't know what was better - the food or the service! I stopped by Thai Mukda for lunch to place a to-go order and had a very positive experience. I was greeted by a friendly counter employee who handed me a menu and pointed out the lunch specials. She checked in a couple of times while I was ordering and waiting, asking how my day was going and even offering a to-go water with my meal--small touches that made a great impression. While waiting, I noticed the staff taking care of dine-in guests, and they seemed very attentive to their patrons' needs. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, with around seven tables, giving it a cozy feel. I ordered the Pad See Ew with chicken. As part of the lunch special, it came with a small bowl of soup, crab rangoon, and a fried spring roll. Overall, the food tasted very good and was seasoned perfectly to my liking. The only downside was the crab rangoon--it didn't have much filling, possibly due to it leaking out during frying. Aside from that minor issue, everything else was enjoyable. A small welcoming restaurant with very good Thai food. The sign still advertises the old Chinese Express place this restaurant replaces. The signs on the windows are mostly covered by pillars that actually promote the restaurant. They have switched the interior to more Thai pictures and statues. The one unisex restroom was clean and well stocked. The waitress and waiter team were very quick giving our menu and taking orders. They both teamed up keeping our water filled. Som Tum (Papaya Salad) was flavorful with green papaya, carrots, iceberg and another lettuce, chilies, beans, peanuts and dressing. I asked for level 4 out of 5 spice, but seemed a level 2 at the most... I decided that was fine when I was asked by the chef. My friend ordered Pad Thai with chicken and an appetizer of calamari and shared. Both tasted great. While the restaurant is small a large group was there that seemed to know the chef/owner. Wow! This place came across my feed and because I have an appointment in the area, I decided to go here for lunch. I saw it was in a strip mall but didn't realize how small it was until I walked in. I was immediately greeted by the host/cashier and chef. Out of the 7 places to sit that were available (2 booths and 5 tables), there was only 1 two-top by the wall that I managed to snag. I sat down and was given a (lunch) menu while she attended to the other tables. I was delighted to see that the dishes were reasonably priced (most lunch ones are), but that they also came with soup or salad, a crispy veggie, roll and a wonton. After a few minutes, I was given water and ordered the Kao Pad (fried rice) with chicken (comes with your choice of meat except beef and shrimp are extra) and got no tomatoes or onions. While waiting for my soup and extras, I noticed how the other patrons were deep in conversation and really enjoying their food. Not a phone in sight! It's stuff like this that really makes you appreciate the intimacy of a small restaurant and the ambiance it gives. Within minutes my soup and extras arrived and it was just what I needed. I devoured that spring roll (because who wouldn't) and savored my soup. I couldn't put my finger on what the base was but it was good (maybe vinegar). It was a taste I wasn't familiar with but I enjoyed it. Shortly after, my food arrived. For the lunch portion, the size was perfect. The rice was cooked perfectly and while the chicken wasn't seasoned, the soy sauce did its job and added to the flavor. I tried to be a lady and told myself not to eat everything on my plate, but my hunger got the best of me and well, you know the rest! After seeing I was finished, the server went and brought the check. Only 10.99 for all that? What a steal! I paid and went on my way. As I got up to leave, both the server/cashier AND chef thanked me for coming in. I tell ya, it's the little stuff. I will certainly be back and highly encourage everyone to check this out. You have to try this Thai food! The restaurant is cozy, with only 7 tables, but the food is amazing!!!! And the service is so friendly. It's some of the best Thai food in west county! We have tried the Larb Gai (chicken), Som tum (papaya salad), Pad see ew, and Massaman curry - and all have great authentic flavors! This is a great addition to the mass of eating spots on Clarkson just south of 64/40. It's a little storefront in the strip behind McDonald's. There are only about 8 tables and they seem to do mostly takeout, but dining in is a charming experience with very nice servers that never let my water glass get more than one third empty. Food was delicious & very flavorful. Pad Pak w/tofu, Kao Soy noodle soup and pineapple curry were all excellent. We all got mild heat level, which let the flavors shine through. The Kao Soy and pineapple curry actually have a default spice level of medium, but they made it a little less spicy for us. Their drink choices also include a lime version of Thai iced tea. This was great. It had a tartness that worked well with the normal sweetness of Thai iced tea. We will definitely be back. read more

I'm not exaggerating when I say this is the best Thai food I have found in St. Louis and they have amazing prices!! Parking lot is huge (super easy to get in & out.) The restaurant itself is super cozy and small, it had maybe like 6 or 7 tables. It was perfect for catching up with an out of town friend on a Saturday night. We both ordered Thai teas and they were so good and only $3.95?! Incredible. Then for the appetizer we tried the papaya salad, it was crunchy and delightful. For the entree I ordered the drunken noodles and it was pipping hot. The veggies were fresh and well seasoned. The noodles were the perfect texture too. Then my friend got yellow curry with spice level 4 and it had some heat. Our server Tom was amazing and we also loved chatting with the chef before we left too. First time trying this place. Restaurant is nice, but small, creating a cozy feel. And that was ideal for a relaxed Saturday night. Staff is very friendly and service was about as fast as one could reasonably expect. Food was PIPING hot. We got pad see ew, which neither of us had ever eaten before. The sauce was rich and flavorful and even the broccoli was cooked just right. Never had Thai iced tea before, but the lime Thai iced tea was pretty great too. Love this place! It's a clean, somewhat small place with two four seated booths, 3 two seat table tops and two four seat table tops. My husband and I have been here twice for lunch and both times received excellent service from Tina and Jeni. Even the chef owner Tor made an appearance to be sure we were pleased with our food. I even witnessed Tina go back to a nearby table after serving their entrees several minutes beforehand. I overheard her say she realized she brought the wrong food to the patron from what she had ordered and offered to replace it immediately. Evidently the woman was enjoying the "mistake" and reassured Tina it would not be necessary. Monday through Friday they have a lunch special that includes soup, crab Rangoon and an egg roll served within minutes of placing your order so if you arrive starving you won't have to wait long to begin eating. Entrees arrive maybe five minutes later. We have had the cashew chicken, the Thai spicy basil with beef (pad prick) and pad Thai. All three dishes were delicious and leftovers warmed over well. I had the impression that this new restaurant was Chef Tor's first foray into owning his own business, so if you would like to help support a small new business along with the owner and his devoted staff, give Thai Mukda a try soon! read more

Full house tonight at 7:30 just one hour before closing. Actually had to turn some customers away. So glad that word is getting around about this place. Tina was my server and she remembered my name. Already a frequent guest I suppose! Even the chef came out to greet me and remarked that I didn't order my usual! Absolutely love when you can be made to feel so welcome at an establishment. If they treat everyone that way they surely will succeed. Beyond that, the food is so delicious. Just the right level of spice (which you can select) that compliments the dishes so well. Many different items to choose from and based on the looks at all the tables, we're well executed. If you haven't yet visited, you must add this to your Chesterfield rotation. This food was amazing. I had the Chiang Mai noodles and another one of us had the shrimp stir fry. Both dishes were so delicious. The shrimp stir fry had such a wonderful grilled flavor and the shrimp was perfectly cooked and tender and there was a great variety of colorful tasty vegetables included too. The broth in the Chiang Mai noodles and the Tom Kha Soup was so flavorful, I was so grateful that someone could make food taste that good! read more

This is BY FAR my favorite restaurant to eat at, and it isn't even close. Some places have good food (it is excellent here), some have good service (these servers are hopping, but not overbearing), and some have an overall good vibe (this place has a warm, intimate, family atmosphere that you just don't find most anywhere else). You simply MUST try the Mukda toast (use a little of the cucumber salad served with it to get the full effect) and we get the Thai Mukda combo appetizer too (the chicken satay and kanom jeep are to die for, and who doesn't like a cream cheese wonton and spring rolls?)! The soups are amazing! Think you may not like a coconut milk based soup? Trust me, try it! I can also attest to the Pad Thai (you choose your protein, or go with Tofu (you do you) at 5 progressively spicy levels to choose from. I honestly haven't had a bad dish, and the drinks are all amazing as well. The prices are surprisingly reasonable for such a high quality product that comes from the kitchen. One more thing, even with all of this, the most unique element that puts just everything over the top for me personally, is the family running this restaurant. Dorr's cooking (the chef) and his children, Tim and Tina (the servers) as well as the rest of the family (including his mother) are there every day, and every time we have been there, Dorr and family come out from the kitchen and check on the patrons in the Restaurant, introducing themselves and checking on their diners satisfaction.
