I have NO Reservations in giving Thai Diner 5 Stars. They have earned it for several reasons... They have always been consistence in putting out Good Thai Food. The place is always nice and clean and the people who work there are always extremely nice and helpful. I was in there with a friend and I ordered the Thai Curry Chicken Noodle soup with the Rice Noodle. She asked me, if I wanted it Spicy and I said, most Certainly. Than she asked, How Spicy or do you want it "Thai Hot"? Wow! I was impressed, as I have been in other Thai Restaurants and if ordered it Thai Hot, it came out with about as much spice as you would ONLY give a Baby... NONE! So, I said I want it TWO (2) Thai HOT! Her response to me was.... "Are you sure". I said, I am VERY sure....! Well, the soup came out, and if look at the photo I posted as well... it came out JUST the way I like my soup. THAI HOT! The broth was a Chicken Broth and it was delicious and YES, I could taste the food. Some how, I knew you would be thinking this... LOL! I have been here many times in the past, and always they do an excellent job on getting the food out in a timely manner and it is always consistently good. I ONLY have one other Thai Restaurant which I Enjoy a lot and this is Thai Flavors... So, it is nice to go into another Thai Restaurant, and they will cook the food in the way you like it. What I think about when I think Thai Food is that there are a bunch of mediocre places that are just "okay." I was literally scrolling down and down on yelp to find a place with 4 or more stars and was frankly a little disappointed. I'm just so scarred from the Elephant Thai near VCU where I got a huge heap of greasy rice noodles that were broken up into the smallest little pieces and such little meat. Anyway, my friend suggested this place and I was very happy. First off, getting in is a wee bit tricky. as the entrance is inside of the plaza door. (You don't want to be like me and look like an idiot walking from side to side at the glass windows.) Secondly, inside decor is just okay. Nothing really special, but I have no complaints. Third: Our server, I think his name was James, was extremely friendly, striking conversation w me and my friend and making us laugh. He was also very attentive- which - let me stress that I do not really see at Asian places like these. Fourth: I saved the best for last. My friend got the Tofu pad Thai and I got beef drunken noodles. I was very pleased with the portions and the flavors were so good I just couldn't stop! read more

BEST HOLE IN THE WALL THAI IN RVA Way back when, this intimate little place used to be a High's Ice Cream shop. I remember going there as a kid and getting ice cream. When the place changed hands, the new the owners didn't change the decor - at first. It was really cool going into a thai place that still had the vibe of a 1950's ice cream parlor. The bar still had the pink, spinning stools and the menu's still said High Ice Cream on the front. Since then the owners have redesigned the place with a sort of galactic feel to it, but it still serves the very best Thai food in Richmond. The place is always clean and the people who work there are always extremely nice and helpful. The decor may not be as fancy as the thai you'll get along Cary Street, but it's priced right, tastes amazing, and you'll leave full. read more

We tried to go to the location on Cary street but it was so hard to find a spot we headed to the west end location. I am not a huge Thai fan but my gf loves their food. I never know what to order because I don't usually eat at Thai places. I went with a lomien with pork and comes with soup or without. I went with the soup and the whole meal was really good. For an app I went with the pot stickers and they were yummy too and the sauce I kept to eat on its own. My gf went with the spring roll and a tofu stir fry. She enjoyed her meal and was happy with how it turned out. I would definitely try this location again. Mainly because of the taste but also the ease of parking. read more

Atmosphere was personal, with family or Thailand photos, which I loved. Staff was perfectly attentive. And the meals we tried were all tasty. Girlfriends got together on weeknight, starting out with lots of appetizers to share. You can order diff levels of spicy, but we chose mild so we could all taste. We were happy with every item: Basil Roll appetizer could have been a meal in itself and was so fresh. Steamed and friend Wontons, Fried spring rolls, and perfect dipping sauces. Yum! Ordered take out Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp. Had 5 small shrimp and a few pieces of chicken. Asked for Thai Hot. What I got was the most bland, flavorless and absolutely no heat whatsoever noodles. Scallions were lame and wilted. The amount for $16 at 6:30pm wouldn't even fill the small styrofoam box. Came tonight because i was craving thai and my regular thai is far from my house. I was very skeptic but i ordered my usual chicken yellow curry and it was AH-MAZING. My hubby had shrimp pad thai and it was good and our server was super nice. Def will be back. Super happy i found something equivalently awesome to eat by my house! read more

I love this place, there curry is ON POINT! I recommend the red and green curry, they have a little bit a of sweeter taste so if you like spicy curry ask for a medium instead of mile! Their menu is big and they have a big variety of proteins! The chicken pad thai is also really good, one of the best one's in town! Portion wise is more than enough! You can order online/by phone and they deliver!! The delivery takes 15-20 min, same as the take out! The service is amazing and they understand english! We've eaten here about 10 times over the past 5 yrs and have enjoyed each experience. It's a small privately owned establishment in the middle of a strip mall and the decor is far from fancy, but the Thai food is consistently good. My menu favorites are the massaman curry and the drunken noodles. read more

Wow just found my new favorite Thai restaurant in Richmond. We ordered Thai Basil Chicken, Thai Basil Eggplant, Curry Chicken , Tom Yum Soup and Tom Ka soup and spring rolls. All of the food was fantastic and they adjust the heat perfectly. I got mine Thai hot and it was just enough spice to make you sweat a little bit not enough to take away form the fantastic flavor of the chicken, basil and vegetables. I've passed by this place a thousand times...so I finally decided to drop in. I had ordered food from them on UberEats, but never in the actual restaurant. Cozy spot...and a decent crowd was present for a Monday night. We started with the veggie spring rolls, which came out hot and crispy. I ordered the stir-fried noodle with chicken. It was very good, next time I'll add extra veggies, but it was plenty of chicken in it. My friend ordered the pineapple fried rice, and that was great. Thai Diner gives smaller portions than Thai Diner Too. How weird is that? You also don't get an egg roll with your take out order, which is annoying. You get the world's saddest take out salad. I must admit this place caught me by surprise. For one, friends had recommended we tried it, raving about the food. I guess I expected a restaurant that looked more sophisticated. The place, however, is not impressive looking, in any way. It does not feel romantic or fancy. It's just a plain place for eating in a strip mall. So yeah, not very impressed at first. However, the food was delicious. Both my husband and I ordered curry dishes. Mine was GF. His dish was probably a bit more flavorful than mine (I will never know) but I was quite satisfied and impressed with what I ate. The menu is HUGE, with lots and lots of options. Yelp Richmond, it's so hard for me to trust you and this restaurant is a good reason why. The absolute best thing about this place was the people who work there. The absolute worst thing about this place was the food. I am not a picky eater, I never send food back, and I generally have a good sense of what is the best thing to order off the menu for my own tastes. I am not exaggerating when I say that this was the worst meal I have ever been served in a restaurant. We started with an order of som tam (papaya salad). This is one of my favorite Thai dishes and they completely butchered it. I could have forgiven them if it was because the ingredients weren't fresh (I mean, you can't exactly get Thailand-quality papaya around here), but the main problem was the sauce. I don't even know how to explain it - it was just all wrong: too sweet and lacked tanginess. For my entree, I ordered pad ped pha (red curry with vegetables). When I order stir-fried vegetables, I expect, you know, stir-fried vegetables. What I got was 10 small, uniformly-sized broccoli florets that had obviously begun their journey to my plate out of a frozen bag. I feel like they were steamed in the microwave, but I obviously can't prove that. I will say that the broccoli was arranged in a neat circle around the rice and served by a person with a smile, so they obviously do care. The sauce was again all wrong and frankly, just not worth eating. This is the only time in my life I can remember not eating until I felt full. The people here were very kind, so it hurts me (a little) to write this review. The bottom line is that the food here tasted like it was prepared by someone who isn't Thai and/or had no training in authentic Thai cuisine. If you have legitimate expectations about what Thai food should taste like, I can't imagine you would enjoy this place. read more

This is the first Thai restaurant I've eaten at in Richmond where I feel they have things right. Just... right. The sauces are spicy all-around, which being Thai food, should be expected. Regardless, they still give you the option to amp up your spice level. I'd like to eat here more to be able to formulate a more well-rounded review, but I had gotten an order take-out for work and it was delicious. I can say, as a vegan, they definitely have a lot of options. The sauces were delicious; anything containing coconut wasn't overly pouring with the flavor. Just enough sauce with the dishes to use with rice, so there was neither too much rice nor sauce. If I could give this restaurant no stars I would. I am an African American male, clean cut with braids. I was simply picking up food for uber eats and one of the owners of the establishment made a comment to me saying, "All you need is a gun, and I would..." then proceeded to put his hands up insinuating that I looked like someone that would rob him. I have never gotten a comment like this in my life, and I WILL NEVER EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT NOR PICK UP FOOD FROM THEM EVER AGAIN.. This was my second time here but I love Thai food and when a coworker said he was going for lunch I jumped at it. I got the lunch spicy fried rice and basil leaves with chicken and shrimp. And a spring roll bc I'm a sucker for spring rolls. Definitely shouldn't have eaten all that food at lunch but it was so good. I got the spicy fried rice "American hot" and it was just right for me, not too much that I was sweating but a good amount. It only came with 4 shrimp which was ok bc I didn't particularly like the shrimp. It was like they threw them in at the end with no season on them. I won't be getting the shrimp again. For a little while, my co-workers were obsessed with this place. It was the answer for everything food+work related. Need a quick Thai fix? Thai Diner. Someone's welcome lunch? Thai Diner. Around the 600th time going here (I like hanging out with my co-workers, so I'm always willing to go out for lunch) something inside me clicked and I realized ... the food is only ok. I DO really like the crispy spring roll. But the noodle and soup dishes I've tried are all just 'ok.' Pad See Ew and Drunken Noodles are usually much to greasy for my taste and the tofu can be a little chewy. The level of 'Thai Hot' is inconsistent. Sometimes it is perfect for me. Other times, I can barely taste it. The service is also either really fast or really slow. Overall, just A-OK. read more
