Had a great meal but the service was subpar. Not sure if the kitchen or wait staff was the issue but food was delayed. On the positive side the patio atmosphere was relaxing in spite of impending rain. And the food was really good and plentiful. Larb Gai and fried chive bread were great. Never had the chive bread. Entrees excellent too but shy of spice. Think the duck dish had 2 chili pepper designation but was not spicy. Will try again.

The Patio Thai is a cute spot with solid food. I came on a rainy day and sat at the bar. They have a very cozy ambiance inside; great for a date night. The Kapow fried rice with beef was a wonderful portion and presented nicely. I have also gotten takeout from here and it's just as good!

Tried Patio Thai for the first time and it did not disappoint! We started with the Thai wings in sweet chili sauce -- perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and coated in just the right amount of flavorful sauce. Hands down a must-order. I also got the beef drunken noodles, which came out hot, saucy, and packed with flavor. A little on the sweeter side, but still super satisfying and comforting. The food came out fresh and the portions were solid. Overall, a great experience and definitely a spot I'll be coming back to when I'm craving Thai in RVA!

Walked in here on a Wednesday evening. They have a parking space across the street. We got seated right away. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The patio was cute, with a mini fountain. The second floor has more seats/tables. Our server Joshua answered questions about the menu and was personable. Their drinks were great! I particularly like sweet ones - Woman from Venus, Lychee martini, Piece of Heaven. They were all refreshing. Rama chicken was sauteed chicken in peanut sauce with carrots and broccoli. It was not as flavorful as one would expect. I enjoyed the crispy duck with basil. Flavorful, crispy, varying textures and not really spicy. Both dishes were served with rice. Giving this place 4/5 for cozy ambiance and great drinks.

The service here is really good! The aesthetics and the vibe is great. I LOVE their drinks. The problem is the food. I've been here twice and while I appreciate a good aesthetic, the food here is very underwhelming. I got the chicken curry and while it wasn't the worst, it wasn't the best. It was edible. I was hoping for something incredibly delicious when I eat out. The rice was very dry. The service here was great, we had a really nice server.

I got a hard Thai tea ($13) , papaya salad medium spice ($10) drunken noodles with tofu with medium spice ($16) and , crispy duck Thai basil with mediu ($23). Food came in about 20ish minutes. The papaya salad had the perfect spice at medium. Drunken noodles were a bit disappointing to me as it was a super sweet sauce but not much spice or savoriness. The star was the crispy duck Thai basil, perfect amount of spice with great seasoning. The duck was fried well and was crispy, moist, and flavorful. Staff and service went by very well. Overall I had a phenomenal experience with the papaya salad and duck basil! Food(50%): 8.0 Staff/service(25%): 8.0 Value(25%): 6.0 Overall: 7.5/10

A few issues on our recent visit here. First, there are stairs up or down - not viable for mobility impaired. Another minor inconvenience is that there is no private parking, and street parking is both limited and has a fee. My wife ordered their beef rib soup, and we both thought it was gamey & tough. I must point out that our waitress took it back and replaced it with a different dish with no issue (and we were not charged for it either). I ordered the drunken noodles and requested a "true Thai" level of spice (I do like the heat!). Very frequently I get ignored but here the spice level was excellent. The flavors were great - so much better than needing to douse with spicy sauce afterwards. The decor was dark, booth cushions were worn, there were holes in the wallboard and the restroom needed cleaning. All-in-all it wasn't bad, and after the initial mishap the food was great. Probably won't be back to dine here, though. We did note a number of to-go orders, so that may be a better option.

Never been a big fan of Thai food but I really enjoy this place! The spring rolls taste amazing and every dish I've tried is good. Cute inside, too!

The Patio Thai has been on my list for a hot minute and I finally got to try it today! It was the perfect day to sit out on the beautiful patio. Plenty of shade and a lovely breeze. For food and drink, we tried the Thai iced tea, daily beauty tea, papaya salad, spring rolls, chicken pad se ew, and spicy lemongrass chicken. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The papaya salad was a great spicy starter to the meal. Next time I'd skip the spring rolls. They were excellent, don't get me wrong, but standard. For the mains, I'll say the lemongrass chicken was a standout. The lemongrass slices did throw us off but we ate around them. Pad se ew was also well made and I'm sitting here excited for my leftovers! Service was also wonderful. Would definitely come back and try new things!!!

First of all, this isn't handicapped accessible because as soon as you walk in you look at two staircases, one for uber/pickup going up and the rest for dine in going down. We had paid for parking so we could minimize the walking to this Thai restaurant so that cost $4 before we sat down. I ordered the lunch special of "short ribs in a noodle soup", but that one gigantic rib was so difficult to cut, finally brought it to my mouth to get a bite. Not braised long enough so I attempted the noodles and soup which had zero flavor. My hubby tried the "short" rib and agreed that it had a gamey taste, unpleasant. I tried to wait for our server, but got up and walked to her notifying my dissatisfaction. She then offered a different meal. My next order was Shrimp Pad See-ew, which was a generous sized portion with four large shrimps. Hubby had finished his chicken Drunken Noodles which he had asked to be spicy, request was fulfilled. The restaurant did comp the first meal so we were pleased. The restaurant was decorated in dark colors, but we were downstairs so we felt it didn't uplift us. Generous portions of classic Thai dishes, but I did not like the special.

this is such a cute restaurant! the outdoor patio in the back is beautiful and is a great spot on a good weather day. i tried a dish under their traditional section and although i'm glad that i tried it, i personally wasn't a fan. it was lacking depth and flavor. the other dishes at my table were all so so good though. the two fried rice dishes were delicious. the rice was super flavorful and well cooked. the crispy chicken with the sweet and pepper sauce was actually so good! it was not spicy at all but had the flavor of peppers instead. they were beautiful and tasty. they take time and put care into how the dishes look and it shows! the staff was friendly but did not check on us often (which was appreciated!).

This spot is super cute and I had some higher expectations. The See-ew was not that good imo- but then again it may be a preference thing. My one friend loved hers, the other got the pork gyoza and loved those. The service was pretty quick- said it was gonna be about a 30 minute wait to be seated, but we sat at the bar about 5 minutes before a table cleared for us. The cleanliness of the floors were not great.

I noticed a discrepancy between the amount on my receipt and what was actually charged to my card. It may have only been a small difference, but that's not acceptable under any circumstance. A dollar here or there adds up, and it raises real concerns when it appears to be a pattern. I had intentionally left a cash tip to ensure it went directly to my server, not through the business. Fortunately, I kept my receipt after hearing about similar situations happening before. When my statement came in, the charge didn't match. I called the restaurant to resolve the issue, and the floor manager said someone from management or accounting would follow up. Over a week later, I never received a call. I ended up disputing the charge with my bank. What should have been a nice Friday night dinner ended on a frustrating note. Unfortunately, that's what made the experience memorable--and not in a good way.

The Thai food here SLAPS! The dining area is fairly small, maybe about 10-12 tables, can see it filling up pretty quickly. Our server was super friendly and attentive (forgot her name) and was so nice to our noisy toddler haha. Food came out at pretty good pace and app, entrees and food didn't all come out at the same time which was nice. You HAVE to get their Thai sausage appetizer - If they made this an entree, I would get it every single time. The sausage is perfectly balanced with lean and fat and packed full of Thai flavor and spices. For my entree I got the Thai fried rice with chicken and this portion is HUGE, was able to take some home and easily serve it as another meal. The fried rice was so tasty and fried chicken was perfectly fried and came with a nice sweet and sour sauce too. My wife loved the pad se ew and got to take home her food as well. If this place was closer to us, it would be not good for our wallets. If you want delicious and authentic Thai food, look no further than Yak Yai!
