Pad Thai was delicious. Good portion for the amount. Papaya salad is always tasty but the portion was a lot short. Half was the lettuce and tucked in between the papaya shreds was green beans which made it a lot less. Would only recommend giving more on papaya salad if it's going to be in the bigger container. Very disappointed in the quality of our food we ordered here for lunch yesterday (phone order, pick up). We ordered 2 orders of the fresh shrimp rolls and 2 extra peanut sauce. Three rolls in each order. The fresh shrimp rolls were NOT fresh. The shrimp was very dry, blanched white and over boiled....barely recognizable as shrimp....and the roll was 99% iceberg lettuce. The sauce was oily and the extra sauces were over-charged at $2/each. We did not finish the rolls, because after about 1 roll eaten we both had stomachaches. Not the experience we were hoping for, and should have listened to the recent bad reviews on San Clemente Life FB page. Ever since the d-bag owner of Landers (San Clemente) pointed out that I post mostly negative reviews, I've felt it important to praise businesses that actually do things right. And our experience at Thai Dara was great! The food was delicious, portions were big, service was good. It was not very busy on a rainy night... they seemed to have more take out orders than customers in the dining room (aside from us, there was only one other table with people)... but, they still mixed up a few orders. The pad Thai had shells in it (I ordered chicken so not sure why there would ever be shells in your food), they failed to send me a dish, and the drunken noodles were supposed to have beef and came with chicken. Food is okay, not the best quality meat - it was very tough and chewy. Curry was decent. Their curry is truly not spicy if you order it "not spicy" which is a plus. In terms of service, its also okay until you start asking questions about the quality of their ingredients...then they will start talking about you in Thai behind your back (I'm assuming they thought we couldn't understand Thai). We only asked because their catfish dish didn't seem like it used real catfish, we didn't even comment on the meat quality despite that being another obvious issue. I love EVERYTHING here! We legit come once a week. My favorite is the Tom Kha, which I often order for a meal and not appetizer. Honestly all their curry options are fantastic. The fresh spring rolls are also a "must have" and the peanut sauce is perfect. Their beef broccoli and orange (honey) chicken is always great for the kiddos. Don't skip the Thai tea either, not too sweet and super refreshing. Sometime service is slow but it's mainly from all the call in orders. Ordered takeout for the 3rd time. Previous orders were a bit better. This time was marginal at best. Pad Thai - appeared pre-packaged and was literally clumped together. I think it was microwaved. Of the 100's of Pad Thai dishes I've had, it was hands down the worst. Such a common and easy dish to make, yet was such an epic fail. Needless to say, no one ate it. Rama Chicken - if you like your food drowned in oil, get this dish. All you can taste is the peanut sauce. No other flavors present. Might as well could have eaten a peanut butter sandwich which actually would have been much better. Edible? I suppose, but we didn't even finish half. Yellow Chicken Curry - mostly potatoes and onions, very few carrots and hardly any chicken. Weak on flavor. We ate it b/c we were desperate & hungry. Red Chicken Curry - it was ok. Slightly more chicken than the yellow curry. I ordered this spicier than the yellow but also weak on flavor. White Rice - you know you're in trouble when the white rice at an Asian restaurant is not really good. This rice tasted undercooked, dry & old. How you can't make kick ass rice is ridiculous. It's the oldest staple in all of Asia going back some 12,000 years. It's also really simple to do well. Needless to say it was the last time ordering here. read more

We went there for lunch and ordered off the lunch special menu. The food was good and it was the perfect quantity. What I did like about it was that they still include the small bowl of soup as part of the lunch package. Multiple Thai restaurants have eliminated the soup from the lunch specials, using Covid and Brandon related issues as the reason. I must say, I was a little surprised that the lunch special included two eggrolls. They were good, but it's something you would normally get at a Chinese restaurant. We had been to Thai Dara1 (Dana Point) a couple years ago and did not go back because it didn't seem like authentic Thai food at the time. read more
