Another great experience. This is for takeout. I wanted to try something a little different than the summer rolls or the PHO. I did a little digging and figured out what the difference was between the chow mein and the chow fun. I opted for the house chow mein. Their packaging is always on point. They keep the main proteins and sauce away from the noodles. All of the sauces and utensils were in the bag. The beef, chicken and shrimp or delicious as well the sauce. Love hitting up PTB when I am coming home from work and am too lazy to cook! Their pho is phenomenal. I would personally suggest the grilled beef pho. I usually get my pho to go, but have sat in on a few occasions. The restaurant is really spacious which is nice, and it's usually not too loud in there, so it's perfect if you are looking for a calmer dinner location that will facilitate conversation. Pho Thanh Binh is a rare find: authentic Vietnamese food deep in South OC. This family-owned spot is located in a plaza with a good amount of parking spots. Inside, they have a casual setup with a good amount of seating as well. For their menu, they have a solid selection of noodle, soup, and rice dishes to choose from. Wifey and I stopped by for dinner and opted to try the Com Tom Thit Nuong Cha Gio (Rice Plate with Grilled Pork, Shrimp, and Egg Roll) and the Pho Combination. The food came out super fast and the pho broth was valid off the first sip! Everything was well packaged for a delivery; no spills or leaks. The banh mi here has reignited a loved for banh mi, with the combo of juicy, creamy filling, and perfectly crunchy and chewy bread. They are rude and racist. We were the only non-caucasian group. When we asked for extra onions the guy stared at me for a brief 2 seconds then walked away. He did bring them but when I thanked him, he didn't say anything. We later asked another staff for cilantro, he stared at me too, then brought some. I thanked this staff as well but he too did not reply with a "you're welcome." We thought it might be a cultural thing but no, they were conversing with other tables, bringing them extra requests without stares, replied to their thanks with welcomes. We were there for about 15 minutes, and were still eating but without saying anything they brought our bills to the table. And to the next table, they asked if everything was good and if they needed anything. We had not placed our credits card on the bill yet since we were still eating but this guy approached us and said "your credit card." It was not a pleasant experience at all. The atmosphere reminds me of my favorite family owned Vietnamese restaurant back home. Booth seating, more function than form, but always clean with a casual vibe. We decided to pull over to eat to wait out traffic. It's conveniently located off the highway with great reviews. This place is very affordable for a place that's near the beach. It did not sacrifice taste even though it's far from the Vietnamese community. They offer 3 sizes for pho ranging from $11-$15. We got a small bowl of chicken pho ($11.50), small house combo pho ($12), side of oxtail ($8), and fried spicy chicken wings located under "side" ($15). It came with rice! The pho was decent, the oxtail was on the smaller end and not as tender but it had so much meat! It was like eating ribs. I found it odd the spicy fried chicken wings was not under appetizer but under sides. Different than the garlic wings listed under appetizer. It also came with rice! The wings were jumbo. Such a great deal. It was a wet marination and not spicy. We would definitely stop here again in the feature if we need to wait out traffic. There is little to no Vietnamese food in South County, so happy to have Pho Thanh Binh! I've been a regular for a few years and it's a very nice family run business. The food comes out super quick and fresh which is nice because I typically come by on my lunch break. The only improvement I would like to see is an interior refresh. This is our neighborhood "go to" spot for Vietnamese food, and also for those nights my husband and I don't feel like cooking dinner! LOL. Why do we love this place? It's simple. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, and their food is delicious. Personally, I love how time stands still when you enter this resto. The music is straight up from the 80s, which I love (being an 80s kid), and the interior reminds me of those old school Asian buffet restaurants with cool wall art. My husband is a fan of their Pho Tai Nam (rare beef & brisket), and I always get their Grillef Pork & Eggroll Vermicelli (sometimes w/ rice if I'm in the mood). Their accompanying dish of basil, bean sprouts, jalapeño, and lime are all washed and fresh too! We're looking forward to not cooking dinner again, so we can come back soon! LOL!
