Very good ramen and excellent service by the enthusiastic and helpful gentleman working on July 18th evening. My girls, age 2 and 7 thoroughly enjoyed the ramen and asked for third helpings, which should tell you how good the food was. They also provide cute kids bowls (just like in Japan)! Noodles were bouncy and perfectly cooked. We tried the dipping ramen and was very pleasantly surprised - adding a squeeze of lemon provides a zing to the dish. For San Clemente, solid ramen. Great service! We just moved here from Irvine so it's hard to compare to the plethora of insane ramen but def 4 stars for all the way down here in paradise. We stopped by on a whim on our way to San Diego and this place did not disappoint! The pork broth was rich and delicious and the noodles were chewy. I also appreciated their generous portions and topping options. It was a great place to visit with two young kids. This place is so yummy! Came with a group of friends after a day at the sandy beach nearby. We were a party of eight, there's a long table that was able to accommodate us all. Tiny free parking lot. The male server was super sweet and helpful. The female server seemed annoyed when asked to bring extra napkins etc. She asked us if we needed anything else, implying like tell me everything at once so I don't have to keep coming back. There was only one other table at the restaurant at the time, so it wasn't like it was busy. She was just standing by the register, but I suppose if you had to make multiple trips a few steps away, it could burdensome. She wasn't friendly. She should be more positive, higher energy and be grateful to be by the beach with beautiful weather. The ramen here is so good! Got the spicy sesame- highly recommend it. The lucky cat white ale is light and refreshing- get it. Comes in a can. Also tried gyoza, edamame, curry, buns and tonkatsu ramen. Everything tasted excellent. Surprised it wasn't packed. Funny story - I had recco'd this location to a co-worker before even coming here based off the menu descriptions. Coworker has returned on a bi-weekly basis since the intro so I figured, maybe it's time we give it a try as well. Husband and I took a week off during Memorial Weekend, which gave us some flexibility and time to venture a bit further down to San Clemente. We arrived before they opened since we were unfamiliar with the area and parking was easy. They have a small private lot and shares the space with a laundromat, but they also have street parking in the residential street if busy. They have more than just ramen. They have curry, cold noodles, and other side dishes like takoyaki, gyoza, rice bowls and pork buns. However, we intentionally made our way here for ramen and we both got the Tonkotsu Ramen. At first I thought the portion was small upon first glance, but it was quite filling. The tonkotsu ramen is pork broth topped with bean sprouts, green onion, soft boiled egg, spinach, seaweed and pork chashu. We asked for no green onions in ours. The broth was milky, flavorful and balanced with light salt. The noodles are a bit thicker, but there's a nice bouncy chew to them. Chashu was tender and not too fatty. I wouldn't mind returning here, but it's a little further away to be folded in for a weekly rotation. I am curious to try their dipping noodles and other ramen flavors. I hear the garlic one is amazing, so I'll give it a try next time. read more

First visit despite living in SC for a while - glad we finally made a stop. Based on the one dish we had - vegetarian ramen with mushroom based broth - it's a solid three stars. But the service is great and the vibe is very chill, so 4 stars is more accurate. The only complaint we had is that the veggie ramen had some odd items in it like bell pepper. And that was a minor complaint at best. The broth was just spicy enough and the portions were perfect. The dine in has a Hawaiian family style setup with the center of the room featuring a very large table to share with other diners. Something that I think more places need to have in order to foster a sense of community. If you are in SC and craving some noodles, give this place a try. It's easy to blast by it on the way back from Trestles - make the effort to look for it, it's worth it. read more

Subdued, decent decor, and they have a huge table for a large group. Restaurant does not allow you to chose which chashu (pork or chicken) you can have with a particular broth. Pretty much every broth option that wasn't vegetarian came with pork chashu, which I didn't want, so I ordered the tonkotsu soy sauce ramen with chicken chashu instead of pork. I was told there would be a $2 upcharge. I pointed out that, in the add-in menu below the main ramen listings, both the pork and chicken chashu are the same exact price. The server replied that there's an upcharge because chicken is more expensive than pork. Huh? Again, I pointed out that the menu lists them both as the same price, but they wouldn't budge. Made no sense to me, but hey, I want what I want and so I agreed to pay the upcharge. Ramen was sort of OK, but not great... had an odd taste. I was craving for ramen and so happy to find this gem. Today was busy but the service was pretty quick and they are friendly. I asked for some recommendation base on my preference and ended having the tonkotsu ramen which is very good. The broth is full of flavors and the pork was soft and savory. It has umami at the end of every bite which I really love. My friend got the vegan ramen and she like it too. We shared some gyoza, and takoyaki. Both of us were full and happy. I am a big fan of ramen, but the ramen here didn't quite hit the mark for me. I ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen, which I was excited to try since I love adding hot sauce to my broth and it was nice it was added already. I've had a lot of Japanese Tonkatsu ramen in my life and this was the best and most authentic I've ever had. First off, I overheard the cooks speaking Japanese so that was a good sign. I ordered the spicy pork broth Tonkatsu ramen. The order came out fairly quick. The noodles and egg were cooked to perfection. The char siu pork was both the most tender meat I've ever had but also had a wonderful seared on one side. The broth was rich, creamy and full of flavor and depth. A broth so complex in flavors you could tell the broth and been cooked for hours. I don't live in the area but now I have to come back here to have this ramen again. I cannot wait. read more

Ramen Quest.. Always on the hunt for amazing Ramen, this was a find. Nicely done 9SR! The atmosphere was casual which fits in great with a beach town. I was impressed with the Tonkatsu, the broth was thick and flavorful, the shoyu was perfect. As you can see the presentation was thoughtful. For the (picky) kids I really liked how they made the experience pleasant putting all the delicious things a young one turns their nose up at on the side...so I could eat it ;) Price was fair, still got out of there for less than I spend at Panera - true story. 3 stars for the food. Wish I can give it more stars but the services was awesome. Just the food isn't that great. First, the broth isn't thick and creamy with bursting of pork flavors. Wasn't even spicy. The pork charsui was so salty, it was tender and pulled apart but wayyy to salty. The egg was good, just like how it supposed to taste and have the yolk semi running, bamboo shoot was great. Noodles are okay, could be better. Over all, $12.50 is a decent price but could be better. Got to have that charsui torched and easy on the salt. And if it's gonna say spicy, actually put the spice in the broth, not just add a scoop of chili paste. Takoyaki. I ordered two appetizers since I was really hungry, got myself TAKOYAKI and the pork buns. Regret it. But I was hungry so I had to eat it and don't want to waste food. Easy on the sauce. Please. I would try to come back and ask for easy sauce on both of the items. The takoyaki filling was good, had a good crunchy outer crust BUT drench with the sauces made it soggy and very salty. The pork bun needs some improvement because the meat was dry and not sure if they added more sauce to keep it moist but it didn't go well together. Maybe add some vinegar cucumber or some vinegar carrots and radish to cut the fattiness of the pork. Needs some crunch OR make the pork bun to PORK BELLY buns with pickled veggies as topping. I was driving back from San Diego and was craving ramen. I pull up Yelp to look up Ramen places in San Clemente. I stopped in to grab dinner and met up with friends for dinner. This was probably the best ramen I've had in a long time and my friends loved their meals. I ordered the spicy garlic Ramen with chicken and the pot stickers for appetizers. I absolutely love the food and the service was excellent. I love it so much I actually ordered another ramen noodle to take home so I can enjoy it tomorrow. Highly recommend this restaurant and now I see why almost everybody gave them 5 stars. read more

Wow! I was looking for a snack since I missed lunch. Finished some laundry next door at the laundromat and had just checked out of a hotel across the street. This was convenient and some good reviews on Yelp. I'm so glad I gave it a shot. I only had about 20 minutes and the pork dumplings and fried chicken appetizer looked perfect. They waitress was very friendly and for my order right away. I bet it didn't take 7-8 minutes and out it came. It looked even better in person. The taste was phenomenal. Especially the fried chicken bites. It's really a small appetizer and was perfect for me. They both tasted very good. You can't go wrong here. There's not a big menu either so not too many choices. It's my second time coming here and meeting the manager, who is also such a sweet person! I tend to like more broth in my soups and had to order an extra side of broth for my spicy tonkatsu while I ordered two extra sides of broth for the chicken tonkatsu - world records! I learned that Osaka Takoyaki are octopus balls (which I'm not too familiar with this dish or a big fan of seafood) but my partner enjoyed it. Super delicious ramen on a cold fall night!
