Dropped in off of the interstate for a quick lunch - - - it was delicious and quick. My wife had the pad thai and I went with the pad pak, I personally think my dish was better but both of us were quite happy. They ask you how spicy you want your meal prepared so they can match you taste preference. We do not drive this direction often but would definitely stop again. read more

Wow, a great hidden gem in Marion IL, among a vast selection of chain restaurants at the west end of Walmart in a small strip mall near Dillards.. We ate there two nights and the food was very good to excellent both nights. The food featured fresh vegetables, fresh shrimp, hot made to order. The rice dishes were huge with good prices. The service the first night was fantastic but the second night our server brought us the check half way through the meal, did not even ask if we wanted desert or anything else and I had to ask for a refill of ice tea. The restaurant is clean, modern with fresh brewed clear iced tea. Those who like Carbondale better - its 13 miles away. read more

Delicious! This is a regular spot when we got out to eat. Service is always great and the food tastes fresh. Reasonably priced and very, very clean. I usually get the pineapple fried rice and crab rangoon. The entrees are very large for what you pay. I've liked pretty much everything I have had here entree wise. The appetizers can verge on the mediocre though. Their chicken wings and crab rangoon are both very good while the summer rolls, fried tofu, and calamari I would stay away from. read more

This is a surprisingly great place to eat in the area. The atmosphere is very nice and the selection is huge. I had the Thai-d fried rice and also the pad Thai both with shrimp. My eggrolls weren't cooked the entire way the outside was mushy when I ate it. I ordered a level 3 Pad Thai and the spice was way to much for me to even eat half of it. But, besides that the staff is amazing including the hosts. Some of the staff does have a problem with phones and I notice one of the managers had them hand one to them. My concern about that is what if they have children or any emergencies, at least have them in lockers or something close by. read more

I have never been a person to shy away from a new experience. It is due to this ever-interesting, yet frequently damning aspect of my personality, I found myself in the newest Thai restaurant in the Marion-dale metropolis - Thai-D. The restaurant is located nestled between a discount clothing store and a "Get Cash Fast" store in a strip mall near a Mega-Ultra-Optima-Walmart, so outer ambiance isn't something that exists. The brick building is new and the parking lot clean, but in the sterile way only strip malls and colleges whose classes are in abandoned industrial complexes have managed. Even the sign is in the kind of inconspicuous block-lettering that would make you expect nothing special, perhaps even something sub-standard. To find character in a place so dull and nondescript would be a pleasant surprise. So, valiantly, with high hopes and low expectations, my mother and I ambled inside. The hostess at the podium directed us to a table near the front door, a choice I would have protested had the fifteen-table restaurant had another table free. With the exception of a horrible chill which ran across my back every time patrons would enter or leave, the seating was quite nice. The table was a good size, big enough for four people without being overwhelming; and while the table was close enough to the man in the very corner that his cellular conversation about schedules, tournaments, and his affair were distinctly audible, any person even slightly more discreet would be able to enjoy a meal in remote privacy. Décor was simple but interesting, panoramic pictures of what one assumes to be Thailand were hung on the walls and an overhead lattice supported small spotlights which illuminated the room perfectly. A small bar occupied the opposite end of the room, with a single television recapping Olympic Curling. Our waiter (John? Craig? Keith? Will? I don't remember.) was dressed in the front-of-house uniform of khakis, white button-up shirt, and black bistro apron, but had the scruffy distressed look of an "artist" or "actor" or someone else who would claim another profession if you asked him what he did. When taking our order, however, he was not condemning or judgmental, but knowledgeable about the food. He took our drink orders and returned with them and delicious, albeit cabbagy and nameless, soup. At the perfect moment (that is, during my last spoonful of soup) he returned with our dinners, Beef Pad King for my mother, Pork Pad Kra Pao for myself. The triangular plates were modern and beautifully fulfilled their duties of presenting and holding the food while still remaining functional. A huge, yet not unconquerable helping of sticky rice lay at the top point, while the perfectly sautéed pork, carrots, bell peppers, mushrooms, basil, and onion occupied the bottom two. I unrolled my spotless yet standard silverware and leapt headfirst into my dinner. Here is a critical lesson. When ordering food from a new restaurant, don't assume that the spiciness scale of Thai food is universal. Never in my life have I had to shy away from too-spicy salsa, wasabi, pepper glaze or anything else. I am brazen and bold, unable to be defeated by mere capsaicin. I have been to many Thai restaurants in my twenty years on this Earth, granted - none in Thailand, and the scales have all seemed similar with the exception of that of a little old lady living in Evansville, Indiana who serves only out of her barn. She relies not on a 1 to 10 scale, but of one where she judges your stature, voice, and body language and gives you what you need. She has never been wrong. This being said, Thai-D kicks it up a notch. Ordering the number I always order (I don't want to brag), I devoured the meal. It was delicious, spicy, succulent and OH MY GOD I'M DYING. The hellspice the cook used was incendiary. I was over halfway through my meal before I realized this, and only because sweat dripped into my eye...and my nose ran...and I was breathing really heavily. Undeterred by pain and the early symptoms of a heart attack, I muscled on, signaling JohnCraigKeithWill to refill my beverage, my wellspring of power. I finished the meal in what could be considered a feat of pure hubris, my mother on the sidelines of this battle, insisting I stop. I could not. I annihilated my enemy and shouted victoriously for the check. Returning home, it became clear that I had only made a Pyrrhic Victory. That, in the long run, it would be Kra Pao that won. I did nothing that afternoon... Or that evening... I have learned my lesson. I have learned my weaknesses. I have been back thrice since this incident, ordered a weak 2, and enjoyed every moment. read more

I have been craving Thai food and specifically tom Tom, I would say that the Tom yum was disappointing it was anything but Tom yum, the red curry was nice and we took the left over had it next day and it was better we enjoyed it, the service was good and the place was very neat. Oh I come from the Middle East so 7 wasn't spicy at all for me so if you like hot spicy go for 8 or 9 otherwise stick to 5 which wasn't spicy at all.Thanks read more
