I recently visited for the first time along with my 2 year old son and a friend. We arrived right when they opened for the day. We were greeted with a smile and quickly seated. The place started filling up quickly so it was a little loud paired with the overhead music, but not so loud you had to shout at eachother across the table. My friend and I loved their music selection! Interior is nice and clean. I had the pineapple fried rice recommended to me but it wasn't on their lunch menu so I ordered the chicken pad thai. I asked about the rice anyway and she said they could still make it for me, so I ordered it to-go. I also asked if there was anything kid friendly(no kid selections on the lunch menu) and she said they had chicken strips, fries, etc. I got my son chicken strips and fries. The strips turned out to be nuggets which looked, and tasted, completely homemade. They were so good I had a hard time not picking off of his plate. I can't remember the name of what my friend ordered but I know he really liked it. The waiter suggested a 1-2 heat level to keep it mild for my son, but I could have gone with a 3-4 for him and a 5-6 for myself. I like flavor with spice, but not so much that the heat overpowers the flavor. The 2 was extremely mild, no spiciness whatsoever, so I'm not sure how the 3 is medium? The lunches come with a fried spring roll(nothing extraordinary), iced tea(unsweetened and freshly brewed), and a small bowl of soup. My son hijacked my soup, but what I tasted was a light vegetable broth with bits of vegetables in it. If it tells you anything about how good the pad thai is, my son, keep in mind that he is only 2, ate more of it than his chicken and fries. Next time, I will just order him pad thai, skip the kiddy stuff, and rejoice in the fact there will be more leftovers to take home. My rice and leftovers were in a cooler bag in the trunk for 4 hours as I shopped after lunch. I got home and heated it along with my leftover pad thai. Aside from being a little greasy and needing more pineapple, it was delicious and the pad thai tasted even better than when it was freshly made. Always on the lookout for good Asian dining options so when I noted the reviews of Thai-D I ventured over for dinner after work. Was immediately greeted by the friendly hostess and seated with my co-worker at a table for two. Or ordered summer rolls for an appetizer (look like spring rolls) and my friend ordered Crab Rangoons. The food arrived promptly and we shared the two choices. My summer rolls were fresh and the veggies inside were crunchy and the shrimp soft but not mushy. The crab rangoons were hot out of the fryer and also tasty. For my entree I had Pad Kee Mao spicy flat noodles with onions, mushrooms, chicken and other veggies. The bowl was full of deliciousness and the food was hot and left me full but not stuffed! My friend had Pad Thai with seafood (mussels, shrimp, crab) and he was happy with his meal as well. Interesting event that happened during our meal was a summer thunderstorm blew up from some very menacing black clouds and a torrential rainstorm began along with strong winds and some hail briefly. The large plate glass windows on the storefront started to bow inward with the wind and trees were blowing around. With the initial gust most of the customers dashed toward the rear of the dining area but we stayed at our table and even with the Tornado Warnings blaring on everyone's cell phones we received our food in a timely manner and the servers were calm and cheerful through it all. Thai-D has two things that I love: Food that comes to the table burn-your-tongue hot. To me it says the kitchen is concerned about food safety and the wait staff is concerned that I don't wait. Everything I have eaten here is tasty but I especially enjoy the E9 (Pad pak) with tofu. I would also recommend the chicken wings as an appetizer...they are some of the best I've had. Their prices are pretty reasonable; two dinners, a soup and appetizer with drinks cost us $36. Pretty standard for Southern Illinois. My only complaint would be that the spice levels vary WAY too much from day to day. And the way the dishes are prepared vary from lunch to dinner. read more

Overall - Food was average, staff was friendly but they have a long way to go on their cleanliness/hygiene. Ambience - 3/5, nothing great, typical setup. Food quality & taste - 3/5 was decent, egg rolls and shrimp appetizers were good. Chicken Satay was meh. Entree were ok. Cost - 3/5 Service - 4/5 Was a bit slow but they were smiling and checked if we needed anything, so overall good. Cleanliness - 1/5 a. The waitress tries to carry many dishes at the same time and as a result at least food on one of the plate is always on her dress. She brought food for two tables and in both cases they had a taste of her dress along with the food. Luckily, we didn't have many items and at least we got it served there was no dress involved. b. It would be best if these restaurants keep their cleaning staff separate from waitresses. if the waitress are going to both clean the tables and handle food then they should not be touching the food, I saw her clean the table and then bring food in with her fingers dipped in the food which is just horrible. read more

I used to be all about a Thai restaurant in Carbondale until I tried this place. Now I drive 40 minutes (roundtrip) out of my way just to go to Marion for Thai D. The red curry is unbeatable! Service is always excellent. They've also got a great music playlist going. So so so good overall! read more

This place is hands down the best Thai food in Southern Illinois. Something extremely noteworthy is the purple sticky rice desert. It's a cross between flan and rice pudding. Definitely the best Thai food in the area. It's funny that people complain about this place not having "authentic" Thai food, yet the owners are Thai and the food is cooked by Thai people. I have been eating Thai food for roughly 15 years in restaurants around the country, in Thai people's homes, in Thailand, and this is certainly authentic, and very good. Saying they don't serve authentic Thai food is like saying Burger King doesn't have authentic American food because it's slightly different from McDonald's. I wasn't expecting much when I walked in but it's a super cute layout. The pork potstickers are amazing with the sauce they provide.
