yes, i'm back to further rag on China Wok of Marion, Illinois. you must understand that i'm an idiot and keep going there because it's convenient, and for the most part they serve yummy stuff. thing is they have their stubborn ways at this place. apparently, they've been sued in the past for too spicy fare. because nothing is spicy at this joint by golly. and yes, they have the red font with the pepper on the menu, but there's absolutely no heat served at this joint. the eggroll sucks here. the oil is always boiling, yet they refuse to deep-fry the dumplings-- you either get steamed or lightly pan fried. also, the green peppers are sliced too big as well as the carrots. and their food supplier sometimes gets them some very tough broccoli, and as you know China joints REALLY get the milage out of broccoli. my advice is to get the House Special egg-foo-young, as it's three generous sized omelets. otherwise, i can only advise that China Wok of Marion, Illinois is like a box of sampler chocolates in that you never know what you're gonna get. this place disrespects their customers as if it's honorable old custom virtue. and i can confirm that they don't fry noodles here and act like Chow Mein is a figment of Americans' imagination. read more

Moved here from another state about 2+ months ago, so I've been craving Chinese food. I ordered out for Steamed Dumplings, Sesame Chicken and Egg Rolls. Dumplings were good but had very little meat. Egg Rolls were veggie and palatable, even without any sauce to put on them. Now, on to the Sesame Chicken meal. Yellow rice (no steamed white rice?) was not cooked well at all. Somewhat crunchy, a bad sign it was severely undercooked. The chicken itself lacked flavor and tasted funny. Also, no Soy Sauce, hot mustard and duck sauce packets in the bag. Those are normally standard items. Somewhat pricey for a very disappointing meal. China Wok? China Not! One and done for me. read more

BEWARE: We have been going here for years and have really enjoyed the food. However on the night of March 27th, things were about to change. I picked up our typical order of General Tso's Chicken, Crab Rangoon, Egg Rolls with House Special Fried Rice. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and went on with our TV show. We went to bed about an hour later. Not long after that my stomach started churning. I got out of bed and proceeded to get violently ill with Vomiting and diarrhea. About a half hour later, it happened to my wife. It carried over into the next day. My wife ended up in the hospital due to dehydration. She is still having trouble. Our daughter was charged $70 for two sweet and sour chicken meals, 4 egg rolls and 4 crab Rangoons. She tried to say it wasn't right but he argued with her and told her it was. He overcharged her while taking advantage of her youth and inexperience. Dirty place. We will NEVER go back.. read more

A great place to grab some quick Chinese food. I always get the sesame chicken or wonton soup. I've gotten their wonton soup when I'm feeling ill and it's consistently hit the spot for 15 years. read more

My friend and his wife recomended this place to me. We order here a lot for dinner at work. I usually order the sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and some egg rolls. My co worker usually orders Beef lo mein. This place is consistant,the food is good and hot and the service is fast and friendly. read more

This operation is no where near the Chinese cooking in Chicago. The fried rice is not fried at all. The rice in Chicago is usually brown in color but the rice here is yellow. The meat contained therein has not cooked long enough. It's ok but Chicago Chinese has mastered the art of frying rice. read more

Although the food is very greasy and the service is never friendly, this is the best Chinese in town. Their crab rangoon is DELICIOUS (my husband and I always fight over the last one!) and the port fried rice is A+. No seating area and you do have to wait a bit for the food - but they are conveniently located right next to a Family Video so we like to order some Chinese and then pick up a movie while we're waiting. Very solid sweet and sour chicken, too. I always pop in when I feel like cheating on my diet. ;) read more

I have purchased food here many times and it is always made to order and the portions are excellent! I had the generals chicken and its my favorite! My daughter always gets shrimp lomein and my wife will get fried veggies, the cashier is as sharp as they get, and takes care of everyone very quickly! Im giving 4 stars because of the lack of seating while you wait, the place gets really busy and only has 1 table to sit at. read more

I first ate at China Wok in Marion 2 years ago and found it to be tasty good quality food. I continued to eat there for carry-out monthly. However, the last 2 times we ordered our favorite garlic chicken and crab Rangoon with the yummy thick red sauce we were disappointed. The garlic chicken was low on flavored. It seemed to have been watered down. And the thick sweet yummy dipping sauce for the crab Rangoon was no longer thick, but runny and lacked flavor. I wish they would go back to the way they used to prepare their dishes. I will look for another Chinese carry-out. read more

I'm not sure how a worker at a Chinese restaurant does NOT know the difference between chow mein and lo mein but it took quite a bit of unnecessary effort to get them to understand the difference, After getting home with the order completely wrong, it took minutes to explain how many way the order was wrong. I have found the service and food quality to decrease at a faster rate then the price is increasing, which is considerable. Frankly I rank this place as 0 stars. Learn what you serve and when you get an order wrong and force a customer to drive 20 out of their way and then eat cold food, Do the right thing and replace the WHOLE order. I would expect better service for $50 then the average McD's crappola food and service. Sadly I've have rather had Mc'D's, even though I refuse to eat there anymore, I looks like China wok is now also on that list. If you want GOOD Chinese, drive to Carbondale. Personally I'm done with this place and the BAD SERVICE and SUBPAR food. read more
