Even though it's a small restaurant, they struggle to handle more than 2 orders at a time. I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience this evening was incredibly disappointing and, frankly, baffling. We waited a very long time for our food to arrive, and when it finally did, the Pad Thai was clearly off. It neither smelled nor tasted right. We calmly sent it back immediately after the first bite. To our shock, the dish remained on the bill. When we questioned it, we were told no refund would be given and it was even implied that the issue was our fault. They just said it was a "policy" and nothing could be done. It is disappointing that a business would prioritize the cost of a single dish over customer service and food quality. To make matters worse, we were told we couldn't speak with a manager or owner and were forced to just "leave a note." This entire situation was avoidable and handled very unprofessionally. I am blown away! I whiz past Thai Taste every day on my bike, headed to work, but never thought to stare through the window, because that's creepy obviously! So, much to my surprise, when entering to pickup my Tom Yum Gai soup, I was blown away by the beautifully curated interior of this Carbondale classic. PASS! When traveling I always try any Thai restaurant in the city I'm visiting. I ordered take out Chicken Pad Thai in hopes of uncovering a restaurant I can frequent when in Carbondale as it is a long drive and I love to reward myself with Thai cuisine. I definitely will not be ordering again. I don't know if it was an "off" day or because it was takeout but I was not impressed at all with the chicken pad Thai. It was essentially a box with dry noodles and a handful of uncooked bean sprouts with a few green onions thrown in and some peanuts and a lime wedge for garnish. Totally missed the mark! I went here yesterday for my birthday, and honestly, the place itself was nice and the staff was friendly, but the food took forever -- like around 40 minutes to come out. I get that restaurants can be busy, but that was a little too long. Then, while I was still eating, they brought me the check... which kinda made me feel like I was being kicked out. It was my birthday too, so I might've wanted dessert or to ask if they did anything special for birthdays. The food is very good. Staff is friendly. There is a spice rating system. Be aware that a "2" (or whatever rating) might be different from one time to another depending on who is cooking that day. If you're not sure what spice level is right for you, you can ask waitstaff, or ask for a lower number and request extra on the side. Finally open for dine in! The inside is very spaced out so there's plenty of room for everyone, which we appreciated. This wonderful place is conveniently located near Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. The staff is very welcoming and the patrons all look very pleased to dine and drink here. There is a bar on premises and plenty of room for customers to dine in. I came here because I had a taste for my favorite dish, Yum Nua Nam Tok (beef salad). Being this my first time here, the lovely hostess Taylor assisted me with customizing my choice. She also assisted with selecting some starter choices just with her reactions and smile. The atmosphere of this place has great decor and nice soft lighting for dining. I had a very rude hostess and was very disappointed by her lack of customer service.

We were traveling through & staying at a nearby hotel. We found this cozy restaurant on Yelp and so thankful we did. Everything from the service, food to the ambiance was top notch. Our waitress was awesome & knew the menu very well and provided us with some guidance on different dishes and their spice levels. We ordered a couple different soups and 2 entrees, which I cannot remember the names of them, but everything was 5 stars, for sure. It was so good that I snapped a few pics of the menu so I can buy the ingredients & try to make at home (very cool that they included all the ingredients so we can try our best to replicate). Ordered a meal for carry out this evening. Was very impressed with all that I received. I ordered shrimp pad Thai with crab rangoons as an appetizer. The crab rangoons were wonderful and tasted like real crab meat was used as opposed to the artificial flavor/meat typically used. The shrimp pad Thai was full of flavor, I ordered a level 7 spice and it was perfect in my opinion. I do like a bit of heat and it was there. People say this is the best restaurant in Carbondale. Well, that is true, but only because it's the ONLY Thai restaurant in Carbondale!! I had my hopes up for this place because so many people recommended, but I was let down. When we walked it, I only saw one Thai person working in the restaurant. That should have been one clue. The restaurant is small and has a strange decor to it. A sky blue paint color. This place could have been a coffee shop before. It has a separate bar area for drinking and single parties. I didn't like the service very much. The girls took a while to check in on us after our order was taken. They disappeared for a while until we had to flag one down. The level of spiciness goes from 1-10. Five was way too spicy for me. Don't order it too high because the spiciness will build up and eventually a 5 will move up to a 8 or 9 after many bites. We ordered the tom yum chicken soup, chicken satay, pad see ewe, and yellow curry. First off, the portions are really big! That's nice for the starving college student! Leftovers! The tom yum soup had a lot of chicken and mushrooms in it, but it was more spicy than sour. I don't think they blended the two together very well. I tasted a lot of spice and pepper. The portion is good enough for four people. The chicken satay was SUPER dry! Like really dry! It was overcooked and it just got tiring to eat. The pieces were big, almost too big to be an appetizer. The best part was the small cucumber salad that came on the side. The pad see ewe was the best dish we had. Well cooked, nicely seasoned. It had a lot more meat than noodles, which I don't personally like, but you'll love it if you are a meat eater. The yellow curry was good, but too spicy for us. I wish there were more potatoes. There was too much liquid as well. More like a soup than a curry. We took it home and eat it later on and for some reason, it tasted a lot better at home. Go figure. ------------ I would say that if you want decent thai food, go to Thai-D in Marion. Having decent Asian food in this area is a luxury so I would still come back to Thai Taste, but maybe to try other dishes. read more

Visiting from STL, i would say its one of the better restaurants in Carbondale. Its clean and the ambiance is nice. Service has always been good and food is prepared better than other Carbondale restaurants I have been to. I eat a lot of thai food and have noticed that thai taste makes some of their foods differently. I had the panang curry and it came out as more of a soup based dish, but was fine BC the consistency of the dish was still rich, flavorful, and creamy. I recommend it The tom yum soup is a clear broth rather than the typical red/orange broth that I am used to which was not sweet or as tangy. The sweet and sour chicken and the pad see u was also great and I recommend it. I also love getting a Thai iced tea there as well which is black tea and condensed milk. I was NOT a fan of the tom pork salad. There was too much vinegar and was the dressing made a soup at the bottom of the salad bowl. I will be ordering the pad thai next time. read more

If I can give 0 stars, I would. Beautiful decor, calm. Staff was nice. However, if you go to an Asian restaurant and not see a single Asian person, that's a red flag. The Tom yum soup tasted like vinegar. The chicken larb was grainy and crunchy. The pad Thai was also lemony. The curry just tasted spicy with no other lovely Thai flavors. The crab Rangoon... I don't know even know what was inside, but it was grey and did not taste like cream cheese. The pineapple fried rice was edible, but the flavors was not authentic at all. Finally, the noodle soup... just the taste of lime and no other flavors. Thai cuisine is unique in its flavors and I know sometimes it's difficult to compare to authentic tastes of Thailand.
