Excellent service, decent food, decent ambience, decent prices. Not sure it's worth a repeat visit -- maybe for the green curry, or if I'm with a large group (the space is good for groups). The details: FOOD: I wasn't expecting top-caliber Thai in this part of the country; and while this prediction held true, in addition there were some serious and avoidable shortcomings. The Pad Ped (?) curry was so salty we couldn't eat it, even with rice. Asking the lovely server to perhaps cut it with more veg improved it some, but it was still megasalty and now swimming in sauce. The touch of Liquid Smoke didn't do anything for the sauce either. HOWEVER, the veg was all beautifully al dente, and the green curry was less salty and pretty tasty. The chicken satay appetizer is bizarre and should be skipped at all costs: more like a leathery corndog than chicken, with a weird breaded coating and strange, tough, spongelike texture. AMBIENCE: May I suggest bamboo screens instead of the corrugated plastic sheets enclosing the entry foyer? Candles on the tables would transform the general dimness into a cozy romantic atmosphere. Surprisingly loud: hard to hear my husband sitting right next to me. A couple sitting across from each other at a booth had the right idea: they had given up and were each looking at their respective electronic devices. SERVICE: Professional, friendly, and extremely helpful (particularly appreciated during the Pad Ped desalinization mentioned above). Tipping over 20% was definitely justified! Had pick up yesterday. It was great. Fast easy to pull up and have them bring the orders out to my car.

Based on a friend's recommendation, this was the first Thai restaurant we tried when we moved to southern Illinois. The service was very good, the decor is pleasant, but we were very disappointed in our food. My pad see ew was sticky sweet and salty. The noodles were narrow, like fettuccine, not the fresh wide noodles I was expecting. There were no subtle flavors, just overpowering sweet and salty. My husband's dish was also too salty. We told the server when we were first seated that we were very hungry, so when each of us ate less than half of our entrees she asked if we wanted boxes. We said "No, thanks." She said, "You must not have been very hungry then!" She would have done well to ask if the food was satisfactory. We never leave food on our plates! My husband came back later for lunch with colleagues. They said the food was not nearly as good as it had been in the past. read more

Not bad Thai for Carbondale! I was hoping to have my favor Brazilian cuisine while in Carbondale but apparently they're currently in the process of moving. No worries...I try something different this time, which led me here. Neat little corner spot on the town's square. Staff was pleasant. Obviously college kids but represented themselves very well. I ordered the fresh spring rolls as an appetizer. The pkum sauce paired well. The veggies were crunchy and fresh as expected. For the entrée I went with the pineapple fried rice which cones with chicken and shrimp. The portions were ample! I was stuffed. The flavor was good. If I were a college student I'd be quite satisfied and full. I will be back to try some other dishes. I now have another fav while traveling. read more

We ate here twice in late May 2022. Food was very good and freshly made. They use canned mushrooms. Brewed Iced tea and a few beers and wines are available. Typical Thai menu of Curry, Noodle dishes, Soups, Entrees and Rice, nothing stood out or that I could rave about. We had 4 different entrees. NASSSSSTY! I hate leaving this bad review but it's a true story Called in take out and the guy was rude as hell. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. All I got was the triple delight (beef, pork and shrimp with mixed veggies), egg drop soup and veggie soup. The pics explain it all. There was not a SINGLE shrimp in the the entree and the pork was so fatty and the soups were inedible. Egg drop had peas, carrots and funky looking hard boiled egg (which smelled and tasted funny) and the veggie soup was ALL cabbage I didn't even attempt the veggie soup or entree after tasting ONE sip of the egg drop. Not to be too disgusting but I gagged myself after attempting the egg drop soup in fear I'd get food poisoning! Huge event tomorrow and I can't be sick and refund 50 tickets to my training. Maybe all these other folks were there on a good day but that wasn't my experience and it was a $30 dinner and all I got was and entree and two small soups. read more

Seemed promising, everyone talks about Thai taste. Well, we had one of the worst servers here I've ever had, by being so rude and smirking/laughing at us. He's there most nights too, so he's one of the main servers here. It completely ruined the experience. Food was good, and I wanted to try more, but I didn't ever want to eat in there again with that server. Got takeout a few times, and it tasted completely different than it did in the restaurant. The pad thai was so bland, the curry had half the chicken in it compared to eating in the restaurant. They clearly have hit or miss food(probably usually miss), and a horrible server that ruins the experience. One rude thing this server did: I asked how spicy spice level 10 was, because I was simply curious if anyone orders it. His response? "Well I mean it's right there on the menu". Brown Sweet sauce and very tasty. -pineapple fried rice (sans shrimp): the rice didn't taste fully cooked. Kinda had a "crunchy" taste (we've all been there- but I had to deduct a star for that) Would order again if the rice was fully cooked. -curry puffs: I could eat these for days. Love that they are generous with the sauce. Sauce was not spicy. More like a Cantonese Sweet red sauce with a few chili's tossed in. - chicken wings: not sure if that was chicken or duck. I've had many a chicken wing in my day and these did not have the same taste. Don't get me wrong they were delicious, I just knew it wasn't chicken. Duck maybe? Still they were fried fresh and were hot when I picked them up. This feast was shared by me and two other family members. Horrible customer service and unapologetic! Ordered over the phone and they said the it would be ready in 30 minutes. After waiting an hour and a half I called and was placed on hold for another 20 minutes. Went to the restaurant to inquire about my order and they said it would be another 30 minutes. Again, they never apologized and had a very entitled "I don't care attitude." I would give this place zero stars if I could! Nobody's food is that good. read more

Possibly the best place in carbondale. Real Quality food at great portions and good prices. The wings are 10/10 the service is 9.5/10. It's all really just great. Add mushrooms to everything I think 4-5 on the spicy level is perfect for me (it's out of 10). Never had a bed experience from this place. read more

Food was excellent, but at noon on a Tuesday the server greeted us promptly and then took 20 minutes to return to take our order. From the time our order was taken (not the time we entered the restaurant) to the time the entrees arrived, it was exactly an hour. Thai Taste is a go-to place. The quality is good to great depending on who the cook is. The spicy index is pretty subjective. I always ask for 10 and my friend always asks for 6. Sometimes you can't tell the difference between our dishes. Sometimes my nose is happily running and she is happily munching. The service is usually fine. They rate the spicy factor of their food on a 1-10 scale, so I'm going to take a page from their book and rate the key points on the same scale, 10 being the highest folks. (doh!) Appetizers: 5 We had the shrimp eggrolls and the chicken satay. Shrimp eggrolls were good. Close to shrimp tempura because the whole shrimp was in there intact, but not as thick of a breading as your normal shrimp tempura. Hated the chicken satay. The chicken itself had a coated breading to it, tasting similar to a chicken nugget. Iccccck. I felt bad for dinner mates because the other two had nevertried it, and I raved at what a great appetizer it was. Thai Taste didn't fit the bill with theirs (or my) expectations. Chicken satay doesn't have a breading, but instead the chicken breast is grilled nicely on a skewer. The accompanying sauce was decent. I heard the spicy wings were ga-reat. Gonna have to try those the next time we're back at SIU! Entrees: 10 I loved my shrimp pad thai. I had the spicy level at a 5, which I thought was mediocre, but it was definitely upped up an ante. Still really good though. The noodles done al dente, the shrimp plump and plenty and the dish in itself seasoned quite well. Tasted dinner mate's basil thai rice which was spicy and kicking! Great flavor! Other dinner mate had the squid with mixed veggies and the Crazy noodles. Both spicy, and well seasoned. I'd recommend both, as the veggies were very fresh in the squid, and the noodles perfectly in the Crazy noodle dish. Service: 8 Now while our server was really nice and attentive, I had to deduct some points to the fact that their turnaround time made for a longer wait. I stood inside and saw a few tables that were left unbus-ed and cleared for a good 5-10 minutes. This turnaround would help usher more tables and get your more service efficiently. I am a pretty loyal Thai Taste customer. I have always had a good experience with the servers. However, last week I ordered takeout for the first time and it was a bad experience. The woman on the phone told me 30 minutes, so I showed up around then and parked my car. I called again and she said 15 minutes. I go in at 15 minutes and it's still not done. Overall, I waited at least 30 minutes extra for my food. I was given no apology when I finally received my food. Then, the curry was incredibly SPICY. I even tried adding sugar and lime to make it a bit better but that didn't help. I have been to Thailand multiple times and I also cook Thai food at home. I also lived in India, thus I am no stranger to spice. This time it was so spicy that I couldn't even eat it. I always get curry from Thai Taste and it is never this spicy (I always ask for a 3). When I called the next day, the woman that answered said maybe it was because they had fresh chilies. When I told her it was inedible she just apologized. I think they should offer a free dish or something for providing a meal that was inedible and not what the customer wanted. Anyway, I'll probably stick to making my own curry. read more

Thai Taste is most likely the thing I miss most about Carbondale! I lived in Carbondale for four years during college, and ate at Thai Taste constantly. In addition, every time I return to Carbondale, I make sure to visit it. The entrees are great (my favorite is the prig kratum pad thai), as are the appetizers (the fried shrimp dish which I cannot recall the name of is my absolute favorite). The environment is nice, and the wait staff is excellent! The only negative thing I can even think of is that sometimes it gets a little busy, and there is a bit of a wait. read more

Thai Taste is one of the best restaurants in Carbondale. Food is delicious and the service is some of the best in town. The chicken wings are some of the best I've ever had. Surprising from a Thai restaurant, but seriously they are delicious. Lunch service is also a great value! My favorite dishes are Pad Kratium Prig Thai and Pad See-Ewe. Both are super delicious. That kinda sets the tone for the whole customer service experience. Food good. Fans need cleaning " the oscillating fans" I dig reduce, reuse and recycle. BUT the food served is actually quite tasty and the atmosphere was great. Good place for a family outing but not for large groups. Their food is Okay. Nothing compared to what I'm used to. The wings are really good though. And the staff are really nice! Spice level of 10 in rice is not as spicy as a spice level 10 in the noodles. I think because they use dry spices in the rice. But spice level 10 in noodles will have you crying for milk and your mouth and throat on fire even after the meal is done.
