It's a nice spice level because it's not obnoxiously spicy or in your face but it still makes your nose run while you're eating it. We have lived here in Cape for three years now. Bistro Saffron is our 'always a good idea' place to go. We have never once been disappointed, so we return often. Food here is both authentic and creative Asian Fusion. It's all excellent, regardless of the country or item on the menu. They have great sushi and Vietnamese like you would expect only from Japanese or Vietnamese restaurants. We usually split an order of Gaeng huh lay (Chicken or pork stewed in ginger for ginger enthusiasts) and share a chilled, freshPapaya salad and/or an Octopus salad. Maybe some sushi or spring rolls. *Ask about the sticky rice and fresh Mango for dessert. It's seasonal. Everything is always fresh, too. If friends or family come, this is where we go. The service has always been attentive whether we have been a party of 2, or 6. There's just nothing not to love. They got it all right. Bravo! read more

If you haven't tried Saffron lately, you haven't tried Saffron. They have made a conscious effort to make their food more authentic. They certainly have achieved that. I have eaten at this restaurant many times over the years and thought it was in a slow state of decline. I was very impressed with a delivery order that we placed this evening. Meh. Visiting a friend in Cape that loves this place, but she doesn't eat out much... haha! I ordered the lettuce wraps, a basic sushi roll and some nigiri to get a good feel for the place. The chicken lettuce wraps were the weirdest thing I've ever been served. The chicken came in a bowl with peas and carrots in a soupy broth with a slight curry flavor. The peas & carrots were the frozen variety, like Mom used when she made chicken pot pie. I was starving, and it took over 30 minutes for the food to come out, so I ate it by scooping out the chicken & veggies with a fork to strain out the broth so I could stuff a piece of lettuce. Bistro Saffron is one of our favorite restaurants in Cape Girardeau. As the dining room is not open due to Covid I called and ordered a sushi platter for my wedding anniversary dinner. Paula was very helpful and customized the platter to include some of our favorite menu items plus some amazing items I had never ordered (octopus Salad). The platter was beautiful to look at and totally delicious and it really made our anniversary special. Highly recommended! read more

Visiting our daughter at SEMO, ordered take out right as they were closing and they were more than happy to take care of us. Had California roll, St Louis roll, shrimp tempura roll; all were excellent. But the star of the show was the Redhawk roll! Fresh, flavorful, loved the combination; wish we'd ordered 2 of them! Had 2 orders of the cheese rolls (think skinny rolled up crab Rangoon, minus the crab). Excellent! No grease, plenty of flavor and the citrus sauce was amazing. Topped it off with with the Thai Beef Noodle soup which was great. Plenty of beef which was cooked perfectly and fell apart. Excellent service on the phone and at the drive thru window! Had my doubts ordering sushi in Cape but these guys exceeded my expectations, will def be back! read more

I enjoyed the gorgeous atmosphere and the Bistro was highly recommended by a local I trust. I had the saffron bread appetizer, the hot green tea was excellent. The entrée I ordered, yum gin gai, had excellent broth. I was slightly disappointed in the chicken, which was not spiced. The service was excellent, friendly, and thoughtful. I didn't replace my entrée and our server was fantastic about it. She spoke with the kitchen, and was very eager to help. I am completely coming back to try other menu items, and I am confident that it will be incredible. High marks for service and quality. Today I got charged $6 for drinking 3 cans of Diet Coke. I've never gotten charged for refills, even when they started using cans. The menu does not state that they charge for refills. My friend who got tea, was only charged $3. The manager, a lady who has long brown hair, said that she couldn't do anything about it and they had to charge more for sodas and refills because employees had to go to the store to get the soda. I knew this business was going downhill but didn't realize how bad until today. One of the worst experiences at a restaurant I've ever had. Glad you got $60 bucks out of me because I'll never willingly come here again without an apology and my $3 back!! read more

The service was bad. I feel like the waitress probably wanted to be good but she wasn't. She was slow! On top of being slow she didn't have much feedback when I asked about the dishes, she seems clueless and made up her answers. The rice noodles on my salad were crunchy like they sat out to long, gross, but the salad overall was good. The larbb was soooo DRY don't order this please! I finished my salad but had to keep the bowl so I could put the dressing on the larbb just so I could swallow it. They were nice so I didn't want to complain. As long time Cape residents it is so nice to see Saffron is back on their game! Food was fast to the table and screaming hot despite the dining room being packed. The pad Thai was excellent and when we asked for chili paste we got it right away (not the usual blank stares we get in other Asian restaurants). 3.5 stars. Saffron is a safe bet for those searching for a restaurant with a substantial selection of tasty Asian dishes (Thai, Japanese, Chinese) and nicer, modern Asian bistro ambiance. We go here almost every other Thursday to have a glass of Malbec and wind down after work. We usually try something different at every visit. We liked the Saffron toast (ground chicken on French bread), Burmese noodles with chicken or beef, yaki udon noodles with chicken. The tom ka and tom yum soups, red curry, pad thai, and sushi were all very average. If you are a sushi lover, I wouldn't recommend Saffron. The rolls are plain and novice--the rice falls out of the maki rolls and the seafood does not taste as 'fresh'. Believe me, we've given Saffron more than a couple of chances to impress us with their sushi selection. The sushi over at Shogun's is more authentic, innovative, and better tasting. Our second visit at Saffron, our friend's order came with a long piece of rope string (the kind you find wrapped around dry Asian pre-packaged noodles) on top of the meal. We told the server and she profusely apologized and brought our friend another plate of the same dish. BUT, sitting dead center of the dish was ANOTHER piece of string! The server was embarrassed, but very nice and professional during the whole ordeal and apologized on behalf of the chef. Our friend ended up ordering a completely different dish and surprise, it came out without a string ;)! The restaurant ended up not charging our friend for the dish =). Now that is what we call great service =)! read more

My husband and I dined at Saffron for a late lunch yesterday. We were cared for by Maddie and she was lovely. Our meal was timely, wonderfully prepared and tasted great. I personally liked what they call "cheese sticks" but they really deserve a more creative name. They are the perfect inside bite of crab Rangoon cream cheese without the excessive fried outside. Then you are provided a tasty dipping sauce. Your hot tea is freshly seeped in a personal tea pot. So many personal touches that welcome you back for lunch or dinner. read more

If this is a fusion restaurant, want to be, they got close. My order was my same old for a new place. First a spicy tuna roll. The size of the roll was a standard size but the fish was very small and the sushi vinegar was way over powering. Main course. Chicken Pad Thai The plate was mostly bean sprouts with some noodles added. Just opposite of what one would expect. The chicken lacked the thai flavor and the dish completely lack a key ingredient, the red ketchup ish binding sauce. It was close to what California pizza kitchen puts on their pies less the peanut sauce. The server said it was the most popular dish so maybe the chef had surcome to local tastes. I would probably pass next time but see what you think. read more

I wanted so badly for the food to be good because the location is very nice, the customer service is great and it came highly recommended. Thai is my favorite food, so I'm a bit critical. The food here was lacking in flavor and Thai influence tremendously. I got the Tom yum and the fried rice. The shrimp were completely undercooked and tasted raw. The rice was missing flavor and the broth in the soup tasted like chicken broth. I really wanted it to be good. No one finished their food. Love the location and decor though. My wife and I tried this restaurant for the first time this evening. They have just opened up for indoor dining again. We love Asian/Thai food and this place met our hopes very well. We had 3 sushi rolls, all of which were delicious, and the Gra Prow Chicken, which was a stir fry dish with a slightly spicy Thai sauce. Everything was wonderful. After my friend and I attempted to order a beer and SHOWING THEM my valid ID, they said they "didn't feel comfortable serving us." Mind you, I am 22 and my friend is 25 and my friend had a valid ID as well. I WILL NOT be returning which makes me sad since they were my favorite restaurant. Food was overall really good, someone who has lived in Seattle and Hawaii, decent selection. The charges for additional sauces, a can of sprite and unfortunately the timing of entrees coming out was unfortunate. Suggestion, inform customers of "additional" charges and the grill/sushi bar need to learn to work in sync so a table gets all there meals at one time instead of ten minutes apart. read more
