We tried Bombay Olive the past weekend. You were in town in Carbondale. They are located right on the main Street and they have carry out and dining option. The inside decor is very pleasant and the customer service was great. They have a lot of vegetarian options and even a few vegan options available. Their food tasted delicious. This is a place we will try again if we ever are in that town. They are good for business, casual and family friendly. They also have adult drink options. Parking is right on the street so if you go on a busy time or a busy day you might not be able to get parking right in front of the restaurant. This place seems to have upped their game. Our dinner last night was excellent. My chicken curry was flavorful and at the perfect spice level, and the naan was hot and fresh. We got butter chicken with garlic naan, spicy lamb vindaloo with garlic naan, and some hot chai to drink! The butter chicken was tender and creamy, with the naan being a nice savory sidekick to complement it. The spicy lamb vindaloo was HOT but our waitress was kind and brought us a yogurt dish to help balance out the spice, with the flavors exploding with deliciousness! (Both of those meals came with rice too!) The chai was not sweet and hot, but a good way to pair with the spices (they give you sugar to add to it!). The restaurant was pretty bare, however it looks like they might be under renovation. They have Indian music playing in the background to help balance out the current bareness. I got take-out at Bombay Olive on a Saturday afternoon. The order was accurate, packaged well, and on time. I got the Palak Paneer, Paneer Makhani, Vegetable Samosa, and Garlic Naan. The Samosa was really good, although a little oily from not draining it well after frying. The Palak Paneer was also good but a little on the thin side. I wish it had been more thicker. It also seemed a little on the mild side and seemed to be missing some of the Indian spice flavor. The absolute highlight was the Paneer Makhani! I'm still craving that a week later! It had all the right flavors and was so creamy and delicious! The Garlic Naan was very good, too. It had plenty of minced garlic and was baked perfectly. I would definitely recommend you visit this restaurant! I live about an hour away and I plan on going back this weekend just to get take-out again! The Paneer Makhani, alone, is worth the long drive. Worst possible experience !... Non-existent service ! (I had to get up and go to the waiter's station and get my own pitcher of water to bring back and fill my empty glass! )... People at another table were complaining loudly about their food ...and walking out ! (With good reason !) People at other tables looked alarmed !... Our first Indian restaurant experience in Illinois. It's great for family outing as recommended by friends. The variety of Indian dishes are great as they have my favourite Indian dish like "Palak Paneer" served with Garlic Naan. . I had hopes for this place. The restaurant space is tidy and inviting. The menu is a smattering of India's vast culinary heritage. I ordered samosas and lamb vindaloo. The waiter might be the owner. It took too much time to get the samosas. The sauces were too watered down. The lamb vindaloo took forever and the sauce was like sweet and sour vindaloo with too much sauce and not enough protein to potatoes. The rice did not even look or taste like basmati rice. On Saturdays, they close at 2:30 pm. I called 7 times since 1:57 pm and no answer. I decided to go up there and arrived at 2:05 pm and the door is locked. This is not the only time this had happened. Bad enough they have weird hours and do not stay open but not staying open when you're supposed to be and answering the phone to accept a pick-up order is unprofessional for a business. read more

After living in Seattle for 20 years, I despaired of ever finding good Indian food again. Then we found Bombay Olive, and we were not disappointed. The lunch menu is focused without reporting to the buffet table. You have a choice of preparations (like korma, Tikka masala, saag, curry, and others), heat level from 1-10, and a choice of meat or vegetable to go with the prep. Add soup or salad and a drink, and you've got a great lunch without wondering if the buffet was sneezed on before you got there. Naan comes with the meal as well, and was the best I've had in years. I can vouch for the korma and saag - next time it's vindaloo and Tikka masala! If you like Indian food and haven't been here, how can you even say you like Indian food? The only thing better is making it at home, but I don't have a tandoor, so I'll just keep coming here. read more

We live an hour away, but would go back. So why only four stars? Service. While things went well at first, it took forever to get our bill. Probably 30 min. I only saw one guy on the floor, and he was pulling quadruple duty, seating patrons, serving tables, taking phone orders, and busing tables. Really excited to see this new restaurant in town! The interior is simple and clean and the wait staff friendly and helpful. We came for Sunday lunch buffet and were he first ones in. All of the buffet items hadn't been put out yet, but when it was, there were nice and varied selections. They automatically being a basket of fresh naan to your table. The sauces were delicious, though they seemed to be thinner than what I'm used to. The meats weren't as tender as what I expected, but still good. There was even goat on the buffet. Multiple chutneys and sauces, including raita were on the buffet, as they should be, but not every Indian restaurant does this. Buffets are only at lunch time on Sunday's and Mondays and you order off the menu for dinners which is 7 days a week. Apparently you can order take out, too. I'm super excited for this restaurant in Carbondale. I would not have expected to find a place that served dosa and idli here! If you haven't had a dosa, I highly recommend it -- it is a huge thin crispy crepe that has filling inside (I'm partial to the standard spiced potato filling, like a samosa). I thought the food was quite good and appreciated the actual heat that I requested for. I will echo others' sentiments in that service isn't the greatest -- usually just one rushed waiter/waitress that has to manage the tables as well as take-out orders. The biryani and tandoori chicken also smelled delicious from others' tables. I look forward to returning to try other menu items. read more

My experience was so enriching, specially because any nuance in Carbondale that offers good food, and good prices is NEEDED. Bombay Olive has an extensive menu for both vegetarians and carnivores, although the description of these dishes is not written. The service is amazing. The waiters are willing to share their excitement of a new restaurant with us, as they talked about future ideas, while bringing more Paratha, and sauces. The portions are "the good-American" amount, for a cheaper price than any other gourmet restaurant in Cdale (aka Longbranch, etc).....Oh, and did I already said there's unlimited Paratha? I sadly didn't get to eat here, this was all about service. We arrived at 11:15 am Sunday morning, they asked if we wanted to eat buffet or to order off the menu. At this time, there was nothing out for the buffet yet. We wanted to try a few items off the menu since this was our first time here. We were sat down, at around 11:20 someone came out from the kitchen and spoke with the hostess. She told us that they were having 'problems in the kitchen' and we'd have to eat buffet. But there still wasn't anything out yet. We asked how long it might be, she wasn't sure. So we left and went somewhere else, never even getting to see or smell any of their food. This restaurant has saved me from dying off eating unflavored Indian food from another restaurant that's located on the corner of the same street. They had lamb roganjosh(good), chicken tikka masala (below average, too much cream), amazing malai kofta AMAZING, veggie biriyani (tasted good but a let down as biriyani without meat is not biriyani), amazing chicken tandoori (took me back home to Kolkata), appetizers were good so was the gulabjamun and ice cream. Nice decor and comforting music. Very friendly and helpful servers. Reasonably priced. All in all, would recommend and hopefully here to stay. Would edit review after i go in for dinner service. EDIT: The restaurant has definitely dropped its quality of food and service. The tandoori chicken has become the furthest thing from what it used to be (what a shame). They started charging extra if you ask for dipping chutneys (penny wise pound foolish).. and the list goes on. Way above expectations! We were getting desperate to find quality food on a Sunday evening in July when other restaurants where either not open at all or closed early and refused to accommodate us. The servers were ready for us and we got served quickly and the best Indiana food I've had in a long time. Try the Saag Lamb (two thumbs up) and the many kinds of nan they have. Generous portions of rice and most importantly PERFECT control of spicy!! My husband cannot eat anything but super-mild end his Chicken Tikka Marsala was exactly what he had hoped for. The same goes for spicy: tickling is 4 out of 10 and it was made to perfection in our son's lamb curry. We will be back ! read more

I'm not sure what to think of this place. The food is okay. Yet for just being 'okay,' it's way more expensive than Reema's Indian Cuisine, which has much better food and is less than a block down the street. On that same note, the service was slower than at Reema's as well. There's not much else to say other than that. Bombay Olive isn't bad. It's just a more expensive and less good version of Reema's...
