I feel bad leaving this review but changes need to be made or this restaurant will be a failure. I should have known pulling in at 6pm on a Friday and no one was there. We walked in and a kid was sprawled out on the couch near the entrance. My daughter's shrimp tempura roll was great. My pad Thai left much to be desired. It tasted very bland and like one of those microwave pad Thai you can get at Walmart. They have mail and bills all over the counter. The couch near the front is very worn out. A local family owned Asian restaurant in the strip mall below the Fairfield Inn and behind the Hampton and Drury. Easy walk. Two teenage sons were my greeter and waiter and a third son much younger was working on homework in the corner. Appears the mother was the sushi chef. Great service. Very warm and personable. I definitely over ordered food. The Miso was huge and tasty. The Shrimp Fried Rice I was only able to conquer half of but the Christmas Roll and salad were completely devoured. It's not the absolute best Asian food you can get, but it's easily the best Asian food you can get in the area. The Chop Kitchen flaunts itself as a "Chinese" restaurant but carries Viet, Japanese, and Thai dishes on the menu, making it a bit PanAsian style. I'm pretty simple and cheap, so I stick to the lunchtime sushi roll specials and lunch plates, which come with a selection of sauces and meats. I highly recommend the shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna/salmon rolls, and yellowtail roll. They are honestly pretty decent and solid for the asking price. I'd also recommend the general tso and black pepper beef because they will generally taste like what you expect to be eating. I like a place that is disorganized and chaotic with hit or miss service because it adds a bit of fun to the experience. The average diner may not like that in a restaurant, so I can see how some reviews are a bit low. Overall, it's good. read more

Very clean and nice/updated/modern atmosphere. Service was very good. But let's talk about the food. As for sushi, my sister got the California roll and Tornado roll. She liked the tornado roll the best -- very fresh, very good quality. I got the cashew chicken. The vegetables were all fresh and very good flavor. The spring rolls and crab Rangoon were very crispy, fresh and hot. As soon as they plated it, they brought it to the table so we all got served at slightly different times but it was so fresh and good, we didn't mind. This has to be one of the best sushi spots I've been to! (And I'm from Chicago) The entire family was overwhelmingly nice! They serve complimentary soup and salad which were both fire . We recently had a birthday party for 10 people here and it was very accommodating for us. The menu is a wide variety of sushi and hibachi type foods. I had the pink lady sushi roll and i highly recommend!! It came with a small soup and a small salad. U can't wait to go for lunch and try a bento box. read more

I've never done a review but this place is off the charts bad. I ordered on Grubhub and was told 30 minutes. Walked in to pickup order- no one said hello or asked whatI was there for. After five minutes of waiting I finally said something and they said they were making it. The place was totally unorganized and Paper supplies were all over the counter with silverware, cups and to go boxes. After 20 minutes I finally got my food and took it back to my hotel. The first thing I opened up was the squid salad and from there I really couldn't eat any more of the order because the squid salad hada frozen ball of squid in the middle. Totally unsanitary. Stopped in for lunch for our anniversary. We have a favorite sushi spot in Carbondale but wanted to try this place. The miso soup was really flavorless & watery. I ordered the Alaska roll & Eel Avocado roll, they came stuffed with cucumber & a sliver of fish. Very flavorless. The eel sauce tasted like ALPO wet dog food smells. I also ordered the salmon sushi & the scallop sushi, the salmon was just on trend with the lacking flavor & the scallop was frozen when I bit into it. The salad tasted pretty good, their ice water was cold & bussin. Didn't enjoy the meal but I'd like to try their Habachi or Chinese food options before I give up on this place. read more

We chose the Vietnamese spring rolls, chicken skewers, spicy tuna roll and hubby had pad Thai. Hot tea for drinks... spring rolls were OK but very greasy, same with the chicken skewer, no sauce. My spicy tuna was simply tuna and panko? Very dry. Hubby's Pad Thai had almost no flavor. Hot tea came after lunch was served, teapot was dirty. *Note. The meal was fantastic. I ordered the Hibachi Scallops without broccoli. The scallops were cooked well. The portion was generous. I also got a California roll. It was one of the best I've had. My daughter had the tuna sashimi. It was fresh and delicious. Her shrimp tempura roll and my husband's salmon hibachi were also excellent. I look forward to returning often. read more

The food tasted great and was served fresh and hot. Wonderfully flavorful food all around. We had a mix of appetizers, rolls and noodles. One of the funniest things we ordered were the Pork Belly Buns. Next time I'm going to ask for an order of just the buns because they have terrific consistency & flavor. The prices are about right. The table menu could be a little more descriptive. They have a paper carryout menu that pretty much solves that. I'd order from off that, especially if your new to dining there. read more
