Pad Thai

First review ever but it was so bad I needed to alert people. Genuinely no sauce and 4 pieces of beef on their pad Thai. When I asked for more sauce they wanted to upcharge me. See photo for evidence

Solid Thai food! They have great soup options, and the soup they start you off with was great! It was citrusy, spicy, and delicious. The rest of the food followed suit. My noodle dish (sorry I can't remember the names) was amazing, it had generous portions of shrimp and chicken. That dish alone was worth a trip back. Old timey feeling decor, but in a nice way that makes you want to relax and stay awhile. The staff was attentive and so nice.

Running errands in this part of town is kind of fun because there are several restaurants in the area. Nate and I stopped by Thai Chef recently while waiting "in line" for the Xfinity store next door. This was our first time dining in, and I liked the atmosphere and cozy setting. The employee working was super friendly and helpful. A nice surprise was that they give you a complimentary cup of soup of the day for dine-in customers during lunch hours. The soup we got was a spicy celery soup, which was clean-tasting, comforting, and slightly spicy. For lunch, we ordered the crab wontons, peanut curry noodles with chicken, and drunken noodles with chicken. Our food came out quickly and was super hot! We both got medium spice level, which was perfect. I could've gone one level spicier but it was enjoyable. Both of the dishes were super saucy, saucier than most other Thai restaurants I've been to. Great for me, because I love a saucy dish! I found the drunken noodles to be pretty salty, but still delicious. The chicken was not really my favorite as it tasted reheated. Overall though I did enjoy the dish and it was a generous portion size.

This is the front of the restaurant located at 1971 E. Beltline.

About 1pm, I ordered lunch from this establishment. I asked if they had a lunch menu, they said NO, only one size. I spent $29.05 for a beef/shrimp fried rice and crab rangoons. Ok, this will buy two lunches. Well, the portion size of the fried rice was a GRAVE disappointment and a rip off!! It was placed in a take out container, which further speaks to the size. I spoke to staff about the small serving and how I felt cheated she said their rice portions are always 1oz. I said I'd never visit again, and she walked away as to say "I DON'T CARE". Not once did she try to satisfy this customer. I got home to discover the rangoons were over cooked. I understand inflation, but this is robbing your customers. DON'T PATRONIZE this establishment unless you have money to burn, and you're okay with not getting what you paid for!

Hidden and tucked away off Beltline and Knapp. I am a Thai food aficionado and let me tell you this is a quick 2nd favourite place with being in actual Thailand. I ordered the chicken pad Thai and it's was good. Nothing to exactly blow my mind but definitely better that others I've had here in Grand Rapids. I also ordered the Peanut Curry Pad Thai and OH MY!!! my tastebuds were having a party. The Flavour was robust and explosive. AMAZING! Definitely ordering this one again. I ordered the Tom Kha soup and it's an 8/10. A little watery so I added some salt and sugar and it really brought the flavor together. This soup is what I sometimes use to measure the quality of a place since they are my go to. In conclusion, food was too yummy to take a picture so I'm sorry. I WILL BE MAKING THIS MY GO TO FOR THAI. I gave it 4/5 stars only because I couldn't do a 4.5/5 cause I really wish they had more desserts SPECIFICALLY sweet mango sticky rice.

3 orders of crispy rolls

WARNING. The Chicken Pad Thai has no sauce. Literally served dry. I called and they said that's how it's served. Noodles, sprouts and chicken. I had to add my own sauce at home. The Crispy rolls were good. The picture is of 3 orders of the rolls.

We don't hand out 5* ratings often, but we really enjoyed our take out meal from Thai Chef recently. Two of us ordered the chicken Pad Thai (mine with a higher level of spice) and one from our group ordered Drunken Noodle. We all thought the meal was very good - especially for take out! My Pad Thai was perfect. The medium spice was spot on with just the right amount of zip. Nailed it. The noodles and bean sprouts were excellent. Everything put together very nicely. We've been hunting for Grand Rapid's best chicken pad thai. We've tried a lot of places. Did we just find it? The person having the drunken noodle gave it a 4.5*. All around we were very happy with the meals. I will definitely recommend Thai Chef when friends ask about Thai restaurants. Well done.

My nearly empty left over container... at 630 in the morning. Couldn't wait!

Call the police! This place . O m g! Cute and elegant clean and sweet as the ppl running the place! The leftovers ,okay? At 645 am Tiny Thai voices screeching from my refrigerator "come and consume". I obeyed. Two words Ginger sausage. Stop what u r doing! I mean for real, this place is fab.u.lous! If u want flavor... baebayyyy! Also had cabbage fried rice w/ chicken , pad Thai so good. Long slender fingers of crab cheese roll... reminiscent of crab Rangoon with more crabby cheese and less 'goon'... child it 'rang ' all the bells! Highly recommend. Not to disappoint! This will satisfy in every way!!

Masamun curry and Thai iced tea, to go!

Disclaimer: I've only gotten takeout from here, so far, so can't comment on the dining in experience... BUT. It was so good. I ordered via Doordash, and everything was promptly delivered, and still hot! I had the masamun curry with chicken, which came with a side of rice, and a Thai iced tea. The curry was delicious, with giant chunks of potato, as well as onions, peas, carrots, and cashews. The flavors all blended so well together. The perfect sweet and savory combo. I wish there was a tiny bit more chicken, but that's the only flaw I can think of. There was enough rice for one serving, but the entree container was packed so tightly with food that I'll be eating it again tomorrow! The only downside I can think of--at least from ordering via app--is that I didn't get to pick my spice level, so I'm assuming my dish was mild? But it still had a lot of flavor, and I'm assuming you can pick spice levels if you dine in or order over the phone!

Spicy mee soup! Warm and spicy!

Loved the papaya salad and vegetable spring rolls. Husband really liked the drunken noodles. Best Thai I've had in GR so far.

Best Thai in GR! Great vegan options. Almost every dish can be made vegan or vegetarian. My family orders every week or so.

Food was not good. I got the chicken pad Thai. Chicken not good nor was the pad Thai…read more Wife got green curry and the sauce was water and just not good. Service was okay. But not coming back. At least they took most of it off the bill. Maybe just a bad day for the cook.

Yeah, it's rare when I have an experience that's so bad that I can't eat the food, combined with…read morereally bad service, and a less than inviting atmosphere. This place checked all those boxes. Thai tea, really weak and too much condensed milk. Green curry was more liquid than water (lol), it was not identifiable as curry at all; not by look, smell or taste. It was literally just spicy water poured over pork and bell peppers. No mushroom, no onion. If not the worst curry, in the top 3 worst. Husband ordered the all to familiar phat thai. He only ate a third and said he should have stopped after 3 bites. It looked like a plate of cooked noodles in something yellowish. Didn't look good or smell good. Bummer. We should have known because we were literally the only ones in the place. Service was horrible. Took 10 minutes to get water. Did I mention we were the only ones dining? He never checked on us. We finally had to wave him, but even then he just yelled across the empty restaurant and asked us what's up. We told him the food was terrible. He asked after the tea (also bad). To his credit, he only charged us for the tea (we only drank one it was so wrong). So. I hate doing this, and perhaps your experience will be better than ours was, but I recommend NOT going to this establishment until they get their food act together.
