Great flavor/quality from this place & delivery service great as well & plenty for leftovers or another meal

I placed an order through DoorDash and was shorted one item from my order. I called as soon as I noticed the missing item and they took my name and number with an offer to add it to the next time I ordered or wait a few days for a refund. I opted to just add to my next order. I call today, approximately two weeks later to place an order for pick up and the person at the restaurant kept telling me my name wasn't in the notebook. I gave specific details and they still stated they couldn't make up for the missing item. So for $8 they've lost a customer. The person who answered the phone also lacked empathy, understanding, and communication skills. read more

I've been thinking about trying take out again since I first tried Chee Peng about 8 months ago. Both experiences were very similar. Placed order with ease over the phone and wait times were not extensive. Each time other customers were happily picking up their orders as well. Same woman waited on me each time, she has a sunny and warm demeanor about her. Tonight was my 2nd visit after hearing the people of Greenville tell how great this place is. My take out order tonight included... *Sesame chicken: Chewy, not big flavor. *Broccoli w/ Brown sauce (can be ordered with your choice of meat): brown sauce tasty, sauce a bit runny, broccoli nice and tender, but not mushy. *Fried rice side: rice is good, but also not very big flavor. *Egg Rolls & Crab Rangoons as expected to be. I definitely want to add that the take out containers were heaped full and almost overflowing. Prices were certainly reasonable. This place needs a lot of love. The exterior and the interior of this place are very run down and clutter is everywhere inside. If it weren't for so many people from Greenville claiming this is the best Chinese food nearby, I'd be afraid to eat here just based upon the disorder. Often many of us associate tidiness and cleanliness together, and my initial thought the couple times I've walked into this establishment is "gosh I wonder if these areas have been kept clean." I get a nervous feeling. And since the food hasn't really blown me away I don't see this as being a regular place I'd elect to visit. One thing I know to be certain is this place is a family business, and I believe the people of Belding hold a very special place in their heart for Chee Peng. Let me preface my review with a simple fact and statement. I am a Chinese food snob. Whether it's Szechuan, Cantonese, Hong Kong, American, I have had all types of Chinese food. I have been to Chinatown New York City and have eaten at some of the best that city has to offer, as well as dive, hole in the wall Chinese restaurants across the East Coast and West Coast. There is my preamble to my review. You now have a foundation for my Chinese food palette. The food that we ate here doesn't come close to resembling Chinese food. General Tao's chicken is one of the most recognized and delicious dishes when it's done well. It is generally very crispy and crunchy on the outside, served with broccoli in the sauce, and the sauce is usually reddish it in color with hints of red pepper flakes throughout. This version was none of the above. The chicken came out deep-fried yet soggy, most of it was because the sauce was a gelatinous tan goo. It was more watery liquid then clinging sauce. It ran everywhere. The flavor was overly sweet and did not resemble General Tso's sauce except for the mild heat it had at the end. Now, let's move on to the fried rice. I don't know about you, but typically when I order fried rice I have a vision and expectation of what the rice will look like and taste like. Do you envision hot fried grains of rice steaming on your plate with little white bean sprouts and hot egg, some chopped or diced pork and green onions mixed throughout? Perhaps the place near you does shrimp fried rice instead of pork fried rice. You've got the picture in your head now right? OK, now erase that picture and let's start over. The fried rice was exactly as they described. FRIED RICE. allow me to clarify that statement. It was nothing but fried rice. Yes the took white rice, yes they put it in a wok with some oil and yes they fried the rice. That was the extent of it though. There was nothing in the fried rice except... FRIED RICE. If you're traveling through the area and are craving Chinese food, you should just keep craving it. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and eating here is disappointing as the tooth fairy forgetting your kid. Speaking of the tooth fairy, she could've used those extra teeth to chew that rubbery chicken. read more

The director at my work told me about this place. I didn't try the Thai but hope to get a chance to return here and do so. I got lost while trying to find this place, but I am directionally challenged, I wish you better luck. I ordered a combo plate as it seemed a good deal, it came with an entree (general chicken in my case), rice, 1 cream cheese wonton, & 1 egg roll, and a cup of egg drop soup. Super duper delicious, I gotta say. Everything was spot on, yummy. I had hot tea too, and that was nice as well. Gotta get my green tea on with my Chinese food, I highly recommend it. Don't be turned off by the appearance of this building as it is more hole-in-the-wall. read more

This is a fantastic diamond in the rough! I move to this small town a little NE of Grand Rapids a year ago and have been here quite a few times. My first dish was the Princess Shrimp, and I have explored the menu since then without a single bad meal. Definitely the place to go when you are craving some good Chinese! If you like spicy food, be sure to order extra hot as the heat is generally Americanized, but they will cater to your taste. read more

A very solid diamond in the rough hole in the wall like others have said. The first few years I lived in this area, I'd laugh at it when I drove by and assume it was substandard, but one day I felt adventurous and tried it and I'm glad I did. Both the Chinese and Thai dishes are very solid. I live a similar distance between this place and downtown Grand Rapids. If I'm in mood to eat good Chinese or Thai without image conscious poseurs, this is a good choice. In about five trips here, I've never seen a double parked Porsche, a hipster, a vain sorority girl, high schoolers on a prom date, or a group of middle aged housewives tying up tables for a book club meeting. And that's fine by me. Sometimes it's just nice to eat without being on stage. read more

I created a profile with Yelp just so I could write a review for this place.. This is BY FAR the best Chinese restaurant I have ever eaten at, and it's not even close.. The taste of every dish is unique-- most, if not every Chinese restaurant I have been to has a similar taste.. That is not the case at Chee Peng.. I would recommend any dish on the menu, but my personal favorite is the Szechuan Chicken of Beef ordered extra spicy.. The lunch/dinner buffets also offer a decent variety and each option is prepared fresh upon request.. The staff is always friendly and your order is guaranteed to be prepared fast..
