My wife was born and raised in Asia. It is so hard to find authentic Asian food that hasn't been altered for the American palate. This place had the American Chinese for those who want it but the real prize is their authentic Chinese food. We ordered the scallion pancakes, mapo tofu, squirrel fish, and the dry pot duck. Everything was amazing and we just found our new favorite Chinese restaurant in West Michigan. No more driving to Chicago for authentic food. We were so happy to find this place and the owner was so nice and helpful! We went today, which is a Saturday, and there was no one in there for lunch!!! This place is way better than all the busy Chinese restaurants and I still can not believe that it wasn't packed in there! The restaurant was really warm inside. We sat at a booth that was comfortable but man was it hot in here! They did not have any soup which I thought was a little strange. We placed our order and had mine prepared spicy. When it came out it was so BLAND! We got some chili oil on the side which helped a lot. The overall flavor was just okay. I was so impressed with the food here! It is a very causal spot service was quick and the food came out quickly. We got the dry pot beef, veggie lo mein, steamed dumplings, wonton soup, and scallion pancakes. The scallion pancakes were the best I've ever had, so crispy and flaky and a great vehicle for the dry pot beef. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu. We used to have a Szechuan restaurant in Grand Rapids that I loved, so when it closed I was really sad. Now I'm happy again, because I finally visited My Kitchen and got my old favorite dishes and tried some new to me things! The interior is large and clean with plenty of seating. The menu has a lot of Szechuan options as well as more Americanized Chinese food. I went with items that I saw recommended here on Yelp: the fish with pickled cabbage (soup) and beef with cumin, as well as my favorite dish, pork with bamboo. It was a LOT of food but I was so happy to have leftovers because everything was so good. The fish with pickled cabbage came out first and it was a huge bowl. It was full of tons of super tender fish, thin noodles, and pickled cabbage. The broth was a bit sour and savory. I loved the flavors and the fish was incredible. Then the beef with cumin and pork with bamboo came out. Pork with bamboo is one of the first Szechuan dishes I ever tried and it's still one of my favorites. It's not at all spicy, so if you're not a big spicy food lover, don't worry as there are plenty of options for everyone. The pork was tender and juicy, and the bamboo had a nice texture. It's a very savory dish that is a little subtle but so good. The beef with cumin might be my new favorite - chunks of tender beef covered in delicious spices - this wasn't too spicy and you can avoid the pieces of pepper that are in there. It was so incredibly flavorful and delicious, and really different than other Chinese dishes I've had. I spoke with the owner and she said they've been open for two years. I'm so glad I got to experience this spot because it's some of the best food I've had in the area in a while. It was an amazing experience here on my recent visit to My Kitchen. Totally unexpected as it was the best Asian / Chinese cuisine experience I've had in the GR area to date. Authentic dishes full of flavor and superb customer service, they exceeded my expectations. So I have been traveling to the GR area consistently for the past several months and have been searching for a really nice authentic Chinese restaurant. I dealt with a lot of hyped up places that were just medicore and under delivered. In fact I just experienced one of these a couple days prior to visiting My Kitchen and I was at my witts end. I read the favorable reviews here and it sounded promising so stopped in for some eats. Place is wide open inside with plenty of space. They have a large menu so I carefully went through it but I had my eye on the Salt & Pepper Shrimp and possibly the Fish in Spicy Chili Oil. She put my order in for both, however, to minimize my risk I told her I just wanted to try the S&P dish first and see how that goes. If it's good then I may order the Spicy Fish to go. No worries so she puts in my order. I love S&P Shrimp, but I am used to having it with the shells off while they serve it with shells on here. She said I can order without shells so that's what I did and the food came out in a timely manner. I was extremely happy with the quality and taste of this dish. Crispy shrimp, perfectly seasoned, tasted fresh and perfectly cooked too. I was very happy. She is from China and said she knows a lot of these dishes and maintains the authenticity. It was so good I ate half and wanted to try a different dish- she recommended the steamed dumplings w/ pork and the Spicy Squid 3 peppers dish. Ok let's go for it. They make their own chili oil and sweet duck sauce here and - WOW! You can tell because they are both awesome! Full if flavor- the chili oil has that awesome roasted flavor you'd expect yet it is not that spicy hot. The sweet sauce has the perfect balance of sweetness plus a hint of white pepper. It's honestly the best red sauce I've ever had as I typically avoid this sauce because it's always made too sweet like candy. But hers is just right. The Spicy Squid 3 Peppers was excellent! Light crispy coating and perfectly seasoned. The Steamed Pork Dumplings were also very good. I just poured their hot chili oil and the soy dipping sauce all over it and it was phenomenal. Local husband and wife own this establishment and they were so very nice and courteous. We talked a bit about their journey as they are both major foodies with sophisticated pallets. They both know Szechuan cuisine very well and said they strive to deliver a quality and authentic experience. Welll they certainly succeeded with this customer as all 3 of our dishes were superb. I will be back to try their Spicy Fish, Chicken Fried Rice, Sweet n Sour Soup, Dry Pot Fish, Sesame Chicken, Moo Goo Gai Pan, and Dry Pot Pork Ribs - all of which look appetizing. Ok, I have more updates! I love Chinese food so much, so whenever I come here for some authentic Chinese food, I am just so ridiculously happy. I grew up eating authentic Chinese food so having a restaurant like My Kitchen in Grand Rapids is really refreshing. If you're coming here for the first time, get the string beans, Dry Pot Fish Fillet, beef with cumin, and fish fillet with pickled cabbage. I tell all my friends this. They are my favorite dishes there. I used to get the lamb with cumin, but the beef is a lot more tender. The string beans are so good - they use some Hong Kong spice with olive spice thing (I don't like olives, but it doesn't really taste like olives). They are usually fresh. One of my favorite dishes in general! The dry pot fish fillet was really good - I've gotten their other dry pots with red meat and they just haven't had too much meat mixed in, much to my surprise. But the fish was plentiful. Fish fillet with cabbage is a kind of soup - it is slightly sour and has noodles in it. The fish is soft and the flavor is just really great - if you don't like sour foods, maybe don't get this dish. It's not that sour, but enough so that you can taste it. The eggplant I got once and was good as well. Get the string beans!! And the beef with cumin dish! read more

Probably the best Chinese I have had so far in Grand Rapids. We came here on the premises of what we heard about it being an authentic Chinese restaurant. It did not disappoint and tasted very authentic. We had the hot and sour soup, three delight soup, vegetable fried rice, salt and pepper shrimp, Singapore noodles, lamb cumin, dry pot beef, and sesame chicken, and the squirrel fish. Everything was on point and very flavorful. The fish was nice and crispy as was the shrimp. The dry pot beef had potatoes that we all could not get over we loved that combination together. We came here during their Grand Opening in March. This is a new SICHUAN style restaurant, so they specialize in dishes that are sour/spicy/mala. Service wasn't as slow as we thought it would be for their first day - they only had 1 person cooking in the kitchen, and it took about an hour/hour and a half for us to get our dishes, but it wasn't a problem for us as we were expecting this. We ordered all traditional sichuan dishes - so no beef & broccoli, General's chicken, etc. Instead, we had tripe, sour fish soup, dry pot beef, spicy popcorn chicken, and lamb. The flavors that we were looking for were there, but it was a bit bland. Again, it was their first day, so I'm sure they were still perfecting their food. I haven't seen much advertising for them, but I hope that they perfect their craft, because we need a Sichuan style restaurant in GR! So good! We recently tried this place and it's so good. It's a not your standard quick Chinese food restaurant. Their dry chicken with chili dish is SO GOOD it's spicy and tingly. The chicken is perfectly tender and breaded. Their Singapore noodles have a great savory curry flavor. I tired the moo goo gai pan as well and the chicken was tender and the flavor was good. When we walked in we were the only people in the place. This was a Saturday night at 6:00 pm. The man that seated us didn't know anything about the menu. One woman was doing all the waitressing, the cooking, and filling on line orders- oh, and also answering the phone. We waited a while to even get waited on. Meanwhile a steady stream of Uber drivers and patrons for takeout orders marched through the door- all getting serviced before our orders were taken. Half of the menu is only Chinese. In the interest of time I'll be succinct: my egg drop soup was warm- not hot. Just broth and egg whites. OK. I'll deal tho' I'm used to baby shrimp among other things. The egg rolls were hot and delicious tho' fifty cents more than stated on the menu. My cashew chicken came out alongside a baby bowl of rice that would not have been enough for half of the serving. The entree was luke warm with absolutely NO sauce. Edible but I took most of it home and will have to add rice and sauce. The little bit of rice I did have was never even boxed to take home. My husband's food was just OK. When we asked for the check we were asked how the food was. I mentioned that mine was not hot. All I got as a response was a shrug. Keep in mind this is the same lady doing everything else. The man who initially seated us was outside smoking. Our two leftover meals were boxed but no bag to carry them out. No fortune cookie even. I thought EVERY Chinese restaurant gave fortune cookies. Bad luck for them as I doubt we will ever be back. Not terrible- just nothing special unless you like sticky silverware and menus in Chinese and cold food that doesn't get boxed properly to take home. Not special. Would not recommend. read more

I'd go here any day any time. I went here for yesterday dinner and got myself the first one on the Fish menu and the stir fry bok choy. The first bite I had for Bok Choy was the most flavourful and savory taste I've ever had. My wife and I were looking for new Chinese restaurants (more on the authentic side) She really misses her home town's food and when she found this place on yelp we ordered a spicy dry pot dish for around 18-20$ in which the portion size was HUGE and the quality was amazing. It reminded her exactly of her hometown's food in Jiangxi. The service was quick since it was an online order Togo. The environment was a little awkward, I wasn't sure if they were remodeled inside or planning on it but I didn't dine in so I can't make a valid review based on ambiance. I've ordered several times and it's been delicious every time! Perfect Spicy/Numbing flavors in the authentic Chinese menu. I haven't ordered the Americanized Chinese foods yet. The Dry Pot pork ribs are delicious! The twice cooked pork is yummy! My favorite is the dry pot pork intestines with pepper though. Sounds weird, but please try it. Good sauce. - Ma po Tofu - balanced spice, one of my favorites. - Pickle Mustard Fish Filet - mild pickle flavor in a nice broth with tender white fish - Griddle Cooked Shrimp - spicy!!! This dish is a little odd to me because the shrimp are fried with a bit of a crust but the shell is also on, so you end up peeling off all the flavor? The shrimp underneath are still actually very good, but the veggies in there are soooo spicy. - Eggplant in Garlic Sauce - super caramelized and sweet Chinese eggplant in a mildly spicy and garlicky sauce. Customer service a bit weird. The website said 10 minutes, but it ended up taking like 30. No big deal, but when my wife went to pick it up the lady at the front counter was chewing out the cook- kind of not the most professional. The best authentic Chinese food in GR. We went here for the first time today and were very pleased with the quality of the food. My husband is from Sichuan so we have high standards for fresh, authentic Chinese food and My Kitchen exceeded expectations. We got the cumin lamb, the eggplant in garlic sauce, and the pickled fish soup and all three were flavorful, fresh, and delicious. Our two-year-old loved it too! They could improve on a couple of points - it lessened the experience a bit to eat off of styrofoam plate - but the owners are new and are still trying to establish themselves. Service was friendly and the restaurant was clean. We will definitely go back and bring family and friends. If you want Americanized Chinese takeout - go somewhere else. So I'm normally not a food delivery type gal. But some days it's a beautiful perk of life when you're having a mental health day. First time eating here and was pleased and throughly satisfied with my meal! I've talked before about my snobbery with take out containers. Was very pleased no Styrofoam in sight. So food was nice and hot and not all sweaty like! I ordered classic Kung Po with peanuts and crab Rangoon. Wanted my comfort go to's but plan on coming back to try some more of the Szechuan dishes and soups. My entree had quite nice big chunks of chicken. And unlike some Asian places where you question if this is really chicken. These were nice tender none fatty chewy pieces. It could have been spicier; so I'll remember that next time. Crab Rangoon was very good and on the sweeter side of ones I've had at other places. This place was 10/10! We did have to wait for a min to get seated, but they were very apologetic about it. It was fine though, we were not in a rush. Everything we got was delicious, taste very authentic. We got the appetizers sampler, garlic eggplants, egg foo young, and shrimp&garlic. The sampler was alright, I think I would just get the crab rangoons, and egg rolls next time. The egg fu young was massive, and actually pretty good.
