This place had the American Chinese for those who want it but the real prize is their authentic Chinese food. We ordered the scallion pancakes, mapo tofu, squirrel fish, and the dry pot duck. Everything was amazing and we just found our new favorite Chinese restaurant in West Michigan. No more driving to Chicago for authentic food. We were so happy to find this place and the owner was so nice and helpful! We went today, which is a Saturday, and there was no one in there for lunch!!! Instead, I received a regular entrée, so I didn't get the egg roll that comes with the combination platter. I also ordered a small egg drop soup but was given a large container, and the soup itself was so thick that neither of us could enjoy it. I'm honestly disappointed because I remember this place being much better. I don't mind paying $40 for a good meal, but this wasn't one. Unless you're a local who doesn't want to make the 20-minute drive down Alpine, I'd recommend making the drive instead. Even Empire Buffet has been more consistent in my experience. I hate leaving reviews like this because I've always had positive interactions with the staff, but the food quality just isn't comparable to what it was years ago. I hope they can get back to the level they used to be because I'd love to become a regular customer again.
