This used to be our go to place for Chinese. The eggrolls are inedible. My recommendation would be to not order them. I ordered General Tso's chicken, mild, today. It was so spicy I couldn't eat it. We also ordered teriyaki beef. It usually comes with a little grill. Our waitress said we don't do that at lunch. We told her we had gotten it before and she brought us one, but it wasn't lit. The waitress is an older woman that has been there forever. She was rude and very unpleasant. We decided it is time to find a different place. We got takeout from Three Happiness and were really impressed overall! The portion sizes were generous for the price -- definitely good value. We ordered the chicken lo mein and Mongolian beef, and both were so flavorful. The sauces were rich and balanced, and the meat was perfectly cooked -- tender, not chewy at all. You can tell they put care into their dishes. The only downside was the egg roll, which unfortunately tasted sour and off. We even called the next day to check if it might have been a bad batch. I've been looking for a Chinese restaurant for awhile since my favorite local place's owner retired. This was pretty close. A lot of places I've tried have chewy tough chicken- not this place! The chicken pieces were tender and nicely breaded for my sesame chicken. We also bought Lemon Chicken to take home, the breast pieces were also nicely breaded and reheated okay as leftovers. Crab Rangoons were good, not the best I've ever had- but still pretty good! Egg rolls are THICK, packed with lots of meat. I prefer more veggies in my egg rolls, but my family was really happy with them. The waitress was very attentive, nice and personable. Nicely decorated for a sit down dinner or take out. We both ordered the 3 Delight seafood dish. After getting a free soup and egg roll on Sundays both were very good. We were served our dishes to find that it was hard not to get a scallop or shrimp in a fork full. Bite sized vegatables like broccoli and carrots with good white sauce flavor. I really wanted some Chinese food to celebrate Lunar New Year, so I found some places on Yelp and Three Happiness was at the top of my list. The dining area is spacious and cozy with old-school vibes. We were seated right away and ordered spicy steamed wontons, Kung Po chicken, and chicken with garlic sauce. On Sundays the dinner entrees come with a free soup and egg roll. We were able to try the egg drop soup and the hot and sour soup this way. The soups were both delicious, with the hot and sour soup being one of the best I've tried in the area. The spicy wontons were super spicy! The chili oil was hot and the spice lingered. The wontons were perfectly steamed and the meat inside was flavorful. The egg rolls were big and very good with the accompanying spicy mustard. Our entrees came out and were generous portions. You could probably split one between two people if you're not super hungry. We had plenty of leftovers. The Kung Po chicken was my favorite - not spicy but savory and flavorful. The chicken with garlic sauce was quite a bit sweeter than I preferred, but the menu does indicate that it's a spicy and sweet sauce. The food we had was all great, but the service from our server was a bit cold and not super welcoming. The employees at the front counter were very friendly though. That being said....I ordered the orange chicken and it was so hard I could hardly cut into it. The chicken was sooooo dry, it tasted like it had been refried. No luncheon prices that day so the cost was $17.95. The meal did not include any veggies and just one cup of rice. My friends meal of cashew chicken was not as bad. I have been coming here for literally at least a decade. I've come here with my wife, my grandmother, my friends or even just to get a delicious combination dinner for myself. Whenever I go I have to get egg drop since this place makes the absolute best around and while I may jump around to quite a few different delicious dishes, I gotta say my secret favorite has to be the princess chicken and you should give it a try sometime if unsure what to try. We ordered the Mongolian Beef and it literally looked as if they took beef jerky and put brown sauce over it. It was tough and salty and tasted like paint chips with onions. The Christmas party we went to had a massive order from here for dinner. The wait was 2.5 hours because of how busy they were, which was fine since we ordered it so early. We won't be coming back, mainly because of the absurd prices. Portions are not great. Prices are insane (see included updated menu pictures). $17.80 per beef entree? Biden's economy is rough, but if Beijing Kitchen can do $14.50 beef entrees, located in downtown Grand Rapids, you guys can shave a few bucks off, too. On top of that Beijing Kitchen is just better food. The food itself was...OK. I liked the solids -- the beef, the chicken, the crunchy mixings, etc -- but the sauces were pretty lousy. The curry chicken did have a very slight kick to it, but really didn't have the flavor of even the worst of their competitors. I wasn't expecting anything special, but it just didn't have nearly any interesting flavor. The mongolian beef was quite sweet. Good, but sweet, and there wasn't any other character to the sauce to offset the sugar. The customer service wasn't great, either. Not that people weren't pleasant enough. Rather, when I ordered, I was not told what the total would be (and the prices you find online are outdated). When I arrived, the food was sitting out in the open air getting cold. Why do these places never use a heat lamp? Being wrapped in a paper bag helps hold the heat in a bit, I guess, but when you're charging as much as you are, I'd at least like to make sure my food is hot when I eat it. As I mentioned, the prices aren't updated online, which is another common Chinese restaurant failing, and this really needs to be addressed. "Surprise! Your total is over 13% higher than what's listed on the website menu!" I don't have any ill will towards this place, but there is genuinely no reason to come here, given other options are less expensive and have better food. Mongolian beef shouldn't taste candied. Curry chicken shouldn't taste like someone forgot to add any spices. And prices should be reasonable and posted beforehand. Want something cheap? Check out Number 1 Chinese in West River Drive. Want something way better than Three Happiness, while also being less expensive? Beijing Kitchen. Are you further south and west? Blue Ginger. South and east? Fuji Buffet will get you better food, all you can eat, for significantly less than you pay for a single entree here. I can't think of any reason to come back. read more

First time trying this local Chinese restaurant. We tried the Happiness Combinations. First meal, sweet and sour chicken, egg drop soup, egg roll, and upgraded to fry rice. I loved they did not put the sauce on.it, and the fried chicken was very tasty. Next dinner was General Chicken medium spice. It had just enough kick, but if you want spicy you need to ask for a higher spiciness. Hot and sour soup, egg roll, upgraded to fried rice. This was some of the best Chinese we have found in a long time. Came in for lunch on a Friday and was warmly greeted and given the choice between a booth or table. Our service was very quick to bring out tea and water. We ordered the Hunan Beef and General Tso chicken. In order to try everything we ordered both the egg drop and hot and sour soups and crab cheese and egg rolls to share. Our food came out very quickly and was freshly prepared. Their hot and sour soup was one of the best I've had. Not spicy but loads of fresh ginger. Simiarily their eggrolls were so fresh and the ginger was a lovely touch. (I am not an eggroll fan usually but I would get this again). With a very reasonable luncheon menu offered Monday-Saturday I see us visiting again soon. read more

If you're looking for Chinese food this is one of the better places in GR but don't plan on being SUPER blown away. The chicken was for sure more fresh than usual Chinese restaurants. Get the spicy Wantons!! They are in a spicy chili oil sauce and they are super tasty! Same with the dumplings. I could tell everything here was made from scratch which was great and definitely high quality ingredients. The service was also great! My daughter and I went here after a failed pizza restaurant attempt and I am SO glad we did. Although it is in a mini-mall, it is a hidden gem. The owner is so happy and gracious. The waitress knew what she was talking about and was attentive. The restaurant looked like what an authentic Chinese restaurant (in America) should look like. There is a large menu with food staples and every meal can be shared with the table. We both got Mushroom Chicken thinking that it was appetizers and plates. We have been at this restaurant quite a bit and usually the food is good. We went for dinner tonight and I wasn't very impressed. The staff in the past has always been so friendly and that wasn't the case tonight. We went at 5 pm and there was only a couple of other tables being served besides ours. The waitress repeatedly kept serving the table next to us and took about 15 minutes before she even stopped at our table. She refused to accept a key card coupon for no reason. It was a valid coupon we used a few times before at their restaurant and she would not let us use it. Very rude. The food was ok at best.
