I love the food here, everything I've ordered has been delicious. My favorite being the yellow curry (with the potatoes, they're amazing), shrimp pad Thai, crab rations, and their soups. The presentation of the food is not great, but what they lack in that department, they make up for in flavor. The restaurant is a little run down and most of th booths are taped up, and the servers are not that attentive to the guests. Wow!!! I was expecting an average lunch when I came in here, but I was pleasantly surprised with an amazing lunch! Have to be one of the worst Thai food I've tasted. House special fried rice was soggy. It was nothing but white rice smothered with soy sauce and threw in some broccoli. Pad thai also was not good. I think Nu-Thai is one of the best Thai restaurants in the area- they don't overdo it on the red/green peppers and onions like some places, and are happy to substitute other vegetables. A friend had recommended the place saying she has liked every dish she has ever ordered. Based on our experience it is believable. The name bistro gives the indication that it is smaller in size. We wanted to try something new today so as we drove down the street Thai Bistro popped out. A nice clean little storefront restaurant with very good food! I got 3M Pad Thai with a medium+ heat, my friend settled for sweet and sour chicken (old faithful). We split an order of spring rolls. No complaints!! Since introduced to this place, I go here ALL THE TIME! I have honestly only ordered their chicken pad Thai, and crab rangoons. But I could live on their pad Thai, I generally get medium, sometimes it's super spicy other times it's a low mild. Honestly it's hit or miss on the spice, my boyfriend orders mild when I order medium and sometimes they are about the same, other times it's spicy vs spicier, and sometimes no spice vs slight spice. Regardless I love their food, and their staff is always friendly (I have only eaten in one time, otherwise I always pick up) I have tried other pad Thai at near by places and they keep me coming back and it's my favorite! My friends who introduced me to it say the same, their go to place as well as the people who I have introduced it too. We've done mostly take-out--do ask them to label portions as they don't routinely do this. They are the only Thai place in their area that is open on Sundays! WORST customer service I have had in a while. I ordered 4 curry noodles. 2 had allergy restrictions. BOTH came with the food my guests CANNOT HAVE. The place forced us to bring ALL of the food back and then refused to make us new food. and then would not refund for all of it. our other two dishes were now cold. not to mention the cashier stuck her finger IN out food and then wanted to give it back. However, one day i had gotten an allergic reaction to their noodles and called and asked if they used any of the allergens in which I am allergic to. The crab rangoon and spring rolls are delicate and crispy, and the sauce itself is delicious; none of that crappy BRIGHT RED stuff, it's much more orange-honey flavored. I would buy a barrel of this and dip everything in it, but I'd imagine that is not good for you. The service is decent and this place is clean and cute. We had peanut noodles, pad thai, curry pad thai, and red curry, and all of it was very good. They are really responsive to your requests for spiciness; I am a baby and didn't want much spice, and it was perfect, and my partner loves spice and hers was blazing. I'd say the price was fair for the quality and service, personally. Some people seemed to think it was pricey, but I'd say about 10/entree is pretty typical for Thai and Chinese food. read more

It was mid-afternoon so there were no other customers there. It's in the strip mall on 28th SE between Kalamazoo & Breton. Service was prompt & friendly, cost representative of similar Thai places. The results were kind of OK with the CR nothing special. The spring rolls tasted good tho were deep fried, more like egg rolls. I absolutely love Thai restaurants and go to them frequently. Nu Thai is by far one of the most authentic Thai restaurants. Not only is the restaurant decor very Thailand, the food is abolish rely delicious. The peanut curry noodle is amazing. The noodles don't get sticky like at most Thai restaurants I've been to. You can tell the vegetables are fresh, and the tofu is perfect, not too soft, not too chewy! Rak Thai used to be my favorite Thai place, but Nu Thai is by far better. The serving staff is incredibly nice as well! I do have to say their fresh rolls were very bitter. They added too much mint, I thought cilantro was usually added? I have not been this disappointed in a restaurant in a longggggg time. But Nu Bistro, you have set a new record. Let me start by saying why it has one star. The prices are reasonable. But due to all the negatives, I would probably subtract this star given. Sooooo before I say anything else I just want to point out all of the great Thai options in Grand Rapids. You have Bangkok Taste on Jefferson, Angel's Thai on Monroe, Erb Thai on Wealthy, etc.... With so many Thai options out there, there is no way I would waste my money on cheap food over quality. Server was unknowledgeable of the menu. I asked him what the Wai Wai noodle soup was and his answer was, "I don't know, no one has ever ordered it..." The food was nothing memorable. I order the tom kha with chicken, pineapple fried rice, seafood salad, papaya salad, and beef larb. The food was very forgettable. Most other Thai places just have better flavors. We've been to Nu Bistro with friends before. We've ordered and got AUTHENTIC food. We ordered the larb beef. And it was minced and it was authentic! Tonight we ordered beef larb and it was beef that had been mixed and marinated with corn starch. The seasoning was not the right seasoning for larb. It tasted like it was mixed with salt and the corn starch over powered everything bc of the texture. It was not authentic. When we told our server that it did not taste good, he gave us a strange look and responded, "uhhh you know you still have to pay for this right?" That is absolutely ridiculous. But not wanting to ruin the night, we said fine, it's whatever. So I asked him if the cook was Thai. He said yes. And I said, "So they know that that is not the authentic way of making larb right? The last time we came it was minced fresh beef, and this was cornstarch beef..." And his answer was, "it's easier..." Wait. Hold on. This is where it took a turn for the worst. So you're telling me that I come here to eat authentic Thai and your cook is too lazy to make the real deal, so you serve us crap because it's easier? And because your cook was lazy and did not prepare the dish correctly, I have to pay for your mistake? Nu Bistro, I have never heard of such sad nonsense. That is enough to keep me away. Because it's just "easier". I know from lazy cooks/owners, if you can't take the time to cook and prepare the food correctly, you're probably cutting corners on a lot of things. This says a lot about you guys and how you view your customers. Let me give some advice, if you want to stay in business, put some effort and passion in your work. Also put some time in educating your servers on your menu, and what customer service is. Because you have other Thai restaurants that do it better and having such sad service that we had tonight was a deal breaker. Other Thai places have better food, and better service. Don't waste your time here, needless to say, I will not be returning. Update: of course this would happen, my mom and I both got sick from the food. A quaint little shop nestled in a strip mall located on 28th street. As you enter you notice the small size but are greeted with quick service and a hot bowl of soup. You have a large selection of meals to choose from, as well as many levels of spice from none (which in reality is still mild) up to burn your mouth hot. The atmosphere is relaxing, the music interesting and company great. Overall I give the restaurant 5 stars because of the quality of food, the fast service and the price. I used to eat at this restaurant all of the time. I actually have always loved the food, but the service over the years has either been meh, just okay or so bad you'd think you're on candid camera. One time I took a group of friends here and we walked out after the waiter asked us not to order the salad because cutting up all of the carrots was too much work. Seriously, that actually did happen. Normally I would never go back after that, but they are the only Thai place nearby open on a Sunday and again, the food tastes good. Tried ordering take out tonight. I adore their peanut curry dish. First the guy repeats back peanut supreme, so thought he misheard me. Repeat it and was told peanut curry is no longer on the menu. So bummed! Asked again in case it was a mistake and he said it has not been on it for several years. Lies! I called him out on it and said I'd had it as recently as last year and he changed his story to last year...it's still listed on the menu though btw. Told them I'd call back because I wasn't sure what to order. Decided on the massaman curry. He told me they don't do that anymore either. Now I'm more annoyed than normal. No massaman curry at a Thai place? Also still on the menu!! So I settle and order yellow curry. He asked if I had rice at home to make myself. Why am I even calling this place??!! This is my husband's favorite lunch spot. I see the charges for this place show up all the time on our bank statement. I figured I should be a supportive and budget savvy wife, and see exactly where our money is going by checking this place out. We came in as they started their dinner hour but thankfully it wasn't busy. The place was tidy and lovingly decorated. I was amused with the TV in the back, that played what appeared to be Thai-inspired music videos. We split a pot of green tea and I ordered pad thai curry, mild with tofu. My husband got his standard garlic chicken, hot. Although I can handle a little heat, at a new place, I dial it back to mild just in case the places' spicy rating doesn't match my own. I was happy to find that the mild really was mild and constantly so; the meal didn't somehow change in spice level as I ate it. I've had disastrous surprises finding a really hot piece buried in a bowl. Anyway, I liked the tofu in my pad thai the most. It had that perfect grilled/crispy outside and soft but firm inside. Another reviewer called the noodles creamy, and while I agree with that assessment, I didn't find it unpleasant; just different. Since my relocation to the Cascade-ish area, being able to make it to my favorite Thai joint seems like a bit ofa trek these days. Not to mention, I'm sure it's under new ownership these days and something just doesn't seem quite the same as it used to be. As I was cruising down 28th St the other day, the bright lights of Nu-Thai Bistro caught my eye and I thought, "Why the hell not?". The flashy lights seemed a little off-putting at first, but I put that aside. As I parked I thought to myself, "If the food is bad, I can at least walk down to Buffalo Wild Wings and at least have some adult chicken nuggets." It seemed like a good compromise. Walking inside the space, my tune changed slightly. The decor was warm and welcoming with typical decorations you'd expect from a Thai place, but, somehow, it also had a little bit of a cabin feel. A fancy cabin, but a cabin nonetheless. I might just be crazy though. We must have arrived during a little lull in service because there were only two other occupied tables (the couple behind us discussing bathroom issues the wife was having... really?). Service was prompt and friendly. The menu has a wide variety of different dishes from which to choose and among them was Curry Pad Thai. The safest bet to try out as a judge to any Thai restaurant. Boom, as Captain Picard would say, "Make it so." It's been a minute since I've been eating spicy foods consistently, so I know my tolerance has dropped. I toyed with the idea of ordering it mild, but decided to go medium. I was extremely happy with the dish. Hell, this tasted almost as good as my gold standard Bangkok Taste in Jenison. The level of spice, medium, was exactly that too! Enough spice to warrant a few extra gulps of water as I worked through the dish but not so little as to leave me wondering if they spiced it at all. The portions were absolutely humongous. I rarely leave a place with a box and they were able to do that for me so I had dinner later too. Prices were about what you'd expect. The memory bank tells me my dish was approximately $8, which is a steal considering its quality and portion size. Service was average, at best, and that's okay. I think every review boils down to this, ultimately, would I return? Bet your bottom dollar, I would. I'm looking forward to my return and trying more variety of dishes to see if I've a new Thai favorite in the GR area. If you've got a hankerin' for Thai, what are you waiting for?
