Thai By Thai has been my go to Thai place for the past 3-4 years for its awesome service and great food. It started ever since I moved to Fairfax, when I was introduced to the location off route 50. Then I moved to Herndon about 2 years ago and discovered the route 7 location. I have tried a lot of items on the menu, but my typical go to's are the Beef Ka Prow Fried Rice (thai hot) with a Thai Iced tea on the side. I have brought and introduced many of my friends to both locations and they have been hooked as I have. They offer great authentic thai selections at a very reasonable price and pack the flavor to back it up. I usually go a couple times a month just to get my thai fix. Most definitely my favorite spot, and even more so now that they added Ka Prow with steamed rice, coconut cake, and thai iced tea cake as menu items. Can't wait until my next visit back. They also recently have added reward points for customers that result in free apps, entrees, and drinks. Just in case I needed another reason to visit Thai by Thai more often. I visited Thai by Thai this evening. It was okay...but not Thai-tastic... It is kinda like a fast food restaurant where you go to a counter to place your order. I was told they tend to have spicier Thai food. I ordered mine medium...and it was okay but could have had more spice. My husband had the panang and ordered his medium as well. The panag was very spicy. I had the Ginger Beef. It was okay....but certainly not the best. The staff was a little cold. They do have a kids menu. I wasn't overly impressed. read more

My dining partner has seemed to be craving Thai a lot, as here I am writing another Thai review. And a good one - just as other Yelpers have described. As is our normal we were there in the last hour they were open for the day, on a Sunday, so we figured they might not be so happy to see us. But not so, the gal behind the counter was very friendly and informative, and answered our numerous questions like the first-timers we were. We ended up with the pad thai, drunken noodles and green papaya salad. We were the only ones there with a couple waiting for take-out so it seemed pretty quiet, however we noticed quickly that even at that late hour there was a steady stream of people coming in to order take-out. Our food arrived and my dining partner was in pad thai heaven. She exclaimed that this is the best pad thai she's ever had - which is quite a statement - as I'm the one who will order pad thai at every new Thai place we visit just to see what it's like. The drunken noodles tasted very black peppery - which she enjoyed as well - and the green papaya salad was kind of flat. I asked the helpful gal at the counter if we could have some sweet-sour sauce (for the salad) and some sriracha sauce (if they had it, for me on the pad thai) and she immediately brought out those sauces for us with no problem. After that everything was perfect for the both of us. The green papaya salad was fresh and tasty and both noodle dishes were seasoned for our perfection. We ate it all right there. My dining partner said the only way it could get any better is if they made green tea freezes like they do at Sisters Thai in Fairfax. If they did chances are we wouldn't go anywhere else! read more

Good food. I ordered the pad gra pow (basil chicken) and it was plenty spicy without asking for Thai hot. The food must be ordered at the counter and the drinks are self serve fountain drinks. The food is good and the staff was pleasant. I went there twice this week and it wasn't busy either time. The food was to the table very fast. read more

HIS - Nice cozy place for a decent Thai meal. Service was quick and the place isn't pricy. We ordered Thai Ice Tea, Massaman curry (veg), Drunken Noodles (veg) and Tom Kha soup. Massaman curry had a mildly sweet and spicy flavor with nice soft tofu (regular is fried tofu, glad they didn't mess up my custom order). Tom Kha soup was rich in coconut-spicy flavor. Thai Ice Tea was not too sweet, and could have been a little sweeter. But the star of the show was the DRUNKEN NOODLES, extremely good spicy-and-sweet in flavor, it was a delight. Here are our overall ratings: HER - We have tried this place twice now. It has a nice ambience for a rather decent price. The food is excellent and the service is fast. For me Thai Ice tea was perfect - neither too sweet, nor kinda stale like it is at most places. Massaman curry was rather bland for my taste. Loved their Tom Kha Soup- it had a nice ginger and lemon grass flavor with a coconuty taste. The Drunken noodles were awsum- soaked in spicy curry and loaded with veggies, just the way i like it. We've been coming here since they opened and we've seen the food great and not so great through the years. A recent order of four dishes was mixed, but I can say that the shrimp they are currently using are subpar. They used to use beautiful large fresh crunchy shrimp. The recent ones were small and tasted of iodine. They always seem to be busy when we go during the pandemic, so I don't know why they'd cut back on the quality of the shrimp, but here we are. Vegetarian pad cashew was lackluster with only tofu, onion and carrot, and no other vegetables. Pretty disappointed. read more

Who would have thought fast food Thai would actually be decent? We were in the area and my fiancee found this place using Yelp. You walk up to a counter and order, then they bring the food to you. The spring rolls were ok- a little on the odd side because they were long and narrow- almost cigar shaped. That meant a lot of bread and not much filling. For the entrees we had the Pad Thai and drunken noodle. The pad thai was ok- a little much on the greasy side and lacking in flavor. But the drunken noodle was excellent- great flavor and mix of spices. Overall not too bad for what is essentially fast food. read more

The restaurant is so clean and and very well set up! The prices are cheap compared to other Thai restaurants in the area. Pad thai is $9 here and $13 at other places. And it's great quality! I got the chicken pad thai and it was so flavorful and yummy! And they give a good amount of portion. You order at the cashier and they deliver it to you at your table. I was getting grocery and so I decided to stop by to get lunch. I ordered padthai and ummm there were lots of cabbages and they were super thick and big. I felt like they just dumped it all the left over veggies in it. LarbGai- I ordered the larger portion and when I opened it let just say it was pretty small with lots of green lettuce layering it .. the only thing that made it large it was in a larger box to go. Also When you opened it, all you smell were fish sauce and chicken smell rotten. When you tasted it it, it was salty and the chicken wasn't minced small enough and it was over cooked. The food is served pretty quick after you find yourself a seat and it's pretty good! We ran into problems finding a restaurant to eat at on the Fourth of July. Ordered take out. The pad Thai has a very odd taste to it. Immediately my stomach started to hurt when eating it.

We ordered once and I thought it was ok. B- food for half the cost of the superior-tasting Sense of Thai Street at One Loudoun. Tonight, we tried it again. The tofu panang had like 6 pieces of tofu. My husband and I both ordered a dinner and they sent a single portion of rice, even though he double checked that both meals would come with rice. Then I found a hair in my curry! I called the restaurant and they gave me a refund for my curry, but didn't offer to replace the meal or send out more rice (as my husband had let me have the rice and it was now contaminated with someone else's hair). Our go-to thai fast food. We always measure our thai favs by their green curry and pad-see-ew and this place passes with high marks AND they're close to home. Had a great meal on a rainy Sunday, opting for the sundried beef and the kai rabert, the latter because of the several positive references to it in the reviews. Both dishes were excellent, and much more interesting than the usual Thai food I've had. I spoke at more length with someone working at the restaurant, and he suggested that the next time I try the sesame ginger beef. So I will, and perhaps so should you. Of some note is that unlike most restaurants, at Thai by Thai you walk in (that actually is common to most restaurants), then go up to a counter and order, and they take your order out to you. So it's not really sit-down service, nor do you necessarily have a waiter or waitress, uh, waiting on you. Also, the menu is up on the board over the counter, and it doesn't seem as expansive as the typical 37-page menu you'd get at other Thai places. But the options are good ones, and more unusual than what I've seen elsewhere. I'll definitely be back, especially if I'm in the immediate area and looking for a quick, exotic bite -- Thai by Thai is behind the IHOP (or is it iHop nowadays?), and near the ethnic grocery store, which currently is named Coco's (formerly Grand Mart). read more

The was food is delicious. The delivery arrived in the time frame given (we ordered delivery through GrubHub). The prices are moderate BUT the portions are quite small - you are unlikely to have leftovers, which is our experience with other restaurants. Every once in a while we order takeout here and usually it's pretty tasty. I ordered the drunken noodles. This time they were a bit oily but every other time I've ordered they've been great. My fiancé ordered the ginger beef and it was fantastic. I'll be ordering that next time. I've eating in the restaurant one time which I don't really recommend. The food is pretty good and the food is generally ready on time when you go to pick up. Can't ask for more.

My family likes the product but the experience at this restaurant ruins it for me. The service (both in the restaurant and for carry out) is soooooo slow!!! Tonight it was taking more than an hour to get food orders completed. Their computer system seems to add to their confusion rather than helping them. We will be trying other Thai restaurants next time. The food quality is not worth the wait. Not sure what the problem is at this location but they need a better system and/or staff. I felt worst for the family that got half their dinner 20 minutes before the rest of the meal showed up. On 7/23/18 I tried something New, "Shrimp coconut soup with lemongrass" when the soup arrived, all I saw on top was Floating mushrooms and I don't like mushrooms I was so disappointed just 3 Shrimps in the soup. Well I decided to suck it up and give it a try because I know I wasn't getting my money back . At first the taste was weird, then I went in on the mushroom, it wasn't all that bad. A solid 4.5. This is great place for fast and delicious Thai food. FOOD: Boys enjoy the fried wontons app (not on menu). I've had the papaya salad and it is a good size portion with the right amount of fish sauce and acid. Our favorite entrees are the sesame ginger beef, kai rabert, and crispy basil shrimp. Pad thai here is not bad. They are consistent here, which I can't say for all Thai places. SERVICE: Love that you can order at register and they bring to the table. Food comes out usually very fast. People at register have always been friendly. ATMOSPHERE: No frills. Small space, but have never had to wait for a table. COST: Price is about comparable to other Thai places.
