Great price for the food. The seatings aren't that good but the food is great. The service is fast too although you have to pay at the counter first. The food is flavorful as expected of thai restaurant.

    Chicken cashew $9.95
    Ally S.

Got the chicken cashew ($9.95 lunch special) that came with a salad. Have no idea what dressing was on the salad, but it was tasty. You get a good portion of food for what you're paying. I did like the sauce on the chicken cashew, but I think it would've been better if the chicken was marinated in it as well. Tried the chicken satay as well. The peanut sauce was good and made in house I'm assuming. Overall, pretty quick and friendly service.

I have been here a couple of times during Covid. Both times I was not disappointed. I love their curry dishes (red curry with tofu) with just the right kick of spiciness. Look for their daily specials written on the chalk board. Make sure you check out their lunch specials from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm. They use authentic ingredients as I could taste the lemongrass. You can add either chicken, beef, tofu, or seafood to your selection. They now offer dining inside with a few tables. Unfortunately I have been too full to try their mango and sticky rice dessert. Some day soon! If you ever have a hankering for Thai food, this is the place!

Laab with tofu (made vegan by subbing soy sauce for fish sauce)
    Matt B.

Excellent value, no-frills Thai food with lots of vegan options. I'd been to other locations of Thai Basil before but never reviewed any of them. Time to change that. I did a take-out order one evening by phoning in. Their menu says nothing about vegan options, but I'd seen online from other customers that they can cater to vegans. When phoning in the order, the person taking order made sure we were on the same page about what I wanted -- very clear and helpful. I ordered the laab ($7.95 plus tax), a Thai salad, with tofu, which they could make vegan by omitting the fish sauce and using soy sauce instead. I also ordered the pad see ew ($10.95 plus tax) with tofu, which they made vegan by omitting the egg. The order was ready in 20 minutes. The laab was tasty, coming with lots of shallots, fried mint, garlic, lettuce, and lots of tofu. It was quite spicy and flavourful, but it's really not a salad -- more like a spicy fried tofu kind of appetizer. 3.5/5 The pad see ew was solid as well, coming with the traditional flat rice noodles, plenty of fried tofu, gai lan, cabbage, and carrot. It was a stellar portion and solidly flavoured, though nothing mind-blowing. 3.5/5 For the price, this was definitely worth it. It's not the most complex or rich Thai food out there, but it undercuts almost every other Thai place in town, caters to vegans, and has big portions. That checks a lot of my boxes. Recommended.

    Pad Thai take out

No frills Thai restaurant on the drive. I ordered a pad thai for take out, and one thing that I was quite impressed with was how quickly it was ready, despite it being around dinner time. The food tasted great, a bit on the greasy side, however no real complaints. Tasty and well priced. A staple for Thai food if I need something quick when on the Drive.

Chicken pad thai takeout, so good

Absolutely love Thai Basil and all of their locations! Quality and flavours are always consistent and extremely affordable as well. I always get their Pad Thai and if you go during their lunch hour it is a bit cheaper and comes with a side salad. They usually do a tomato based pad thai sauce but I wish they did a tamarind one. Either way, it is still so delicious, chewy noodles, lots of sauce and flavour and big pieces of chicken. Thai Basil is a great go-to for affordable and consistent Thai food!

    Pad thai. Yum.

Ordered 2 lunch specials via Door Dash. $9.95 each. Pad thai- very good. Absolutely perfect. Red curry beef - good but tastes COMPLETELY different that a red curry at Thai restaurants. It was a nice change and very tasty. That being said, I still prefer red curry elsewhere. This one had pumpkin in it. I prefer the other red curry with bamboo shoots myself.

A spring roll filed with only noodles

Below is the 4 star rating that I left months ago... This is my updated 3 start review... Really guys!? Please explain to me why my spring roll only has noodles in it. See pic... Disappointed Excellent value for your dollar. The food is really good... Hardly 5 star dining but really good food! The atmosphere is and the lack of table service also loses points. We went tonight and will definitely be making this a regular haunt as, while table service is nice we consider the food to be our priority.

To go pad thai tom ka gai thai tea and pad see ew IG:@chewiechows
    Vivian N.

Wanted Thai food to-go so we checked out Thai basil on commercial. All the dishes were on average $11 each (so cheap!) and was a good portion. We ordered pad thai, pad see ew, tom ka gai soup, two iced thai tea, and mango sticky rice. Both noodles were flavourful and savoury. The tom ka gai was a but too salty for my liking but it would've been maybe better with rice. Thai tea and mango sticky rice were delicious too. Overall the food was a lot better than we were expecting and was so worth it!

The chicken satay was definitely very good, flavorful and tender. The peanut sauce goes very well with the meat. Downside was the calamari, the pieces are quite big which make it not as crispy as it would be. Our favorite was the salmon penang curry. the coconut flavor of the curry together with the sweetness make it a very well balanced item. it went very well with the jasmine rice. We also tried the mango sticky rice. the warm sticky rice went perfectly well with the sweetness of the mango. very well made I would love to visit again to try other items on the list which caught my eyes

Drinks were nice (BBL/peach Bellini non-alcoholic) but probably overpriced for the size. (Banju drinks are half the price.) My friend's seafood dish had a weird mix of too many onions and drowned lettuce with not enough noodles. My pad Thai with beef had kind of a fishy taste. Have had more delicious pad Thai at places like Thai Coco or even Thai Express. Was offered dessert but didn't feel like staying. Servers were telling other customers about their 1.5 hour policy and they were really bothered by my empty drink container on the table until I put it down below on a chair for our purses and things. I actually wanted to keep the cup because it was thick plastic and reusable. Weird that at 5:30, they wouldn't let people sit inside because of reservations. Didn't look full by the time we left either so I think we could have sat inside just fine. Anyway ... I don't think I'll be back.

Steep as it is, I decided I wanted a "quick little sushi lunch with a view", and a quick little sushi lunch with a few is exactly what I received. Although I don't recommend it, I walked right in from the street, no reservation, and was seated at the bar (in pretty casual street clothes I may add). I enjoyed a premium sake flight (which was fine...just fine), an old fashioned served with the perfect accompanying dark chocolate, and a good amount of sushi including their signature aburi style sushi in flight form and nigiri tuna flight (bluefin, chutoro, otoro). After visiting Japan last December, I'm a bit of an otoro snob but I have to hand it to them, all three of these cuts were perfect. The accompanying rice, perfection. The quality of the fish, divine. The view was the cherry on top of this experience. This will certainly be a spot I revisit next time I'm in Vancouver.

Michelin starred quality in their service by how they explained the menu, brought out the food, came back around to refill waters. Just top notch service and elegantly so. The food was good but not of value. Their lunch set was a good introductory to what they offer. I enjoyed the food for its flavours and presentation but I thought that it was a bit overpriced. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, fresh and definitely elevated, but it was $50 for 10pcs of sushi, 2 appetizer sized samples of their appetizer or entree dishes, and miso soup (which we did not get and didn't realize till much later in the day). If you're wanting an upscale experience (and portion) of good quality food or wanting to impress other parties, then this is a nice spot. For regular eats, it's a bit too luxurious to be a casual thing in my opinion. The ambiance is nice and calm. They have a patio, which has a meh view overlooking the harbor, but beware of a breezy day. It will catch a bit of a wind tunnel. They have heaters and blankets but the heaters don't really reach unless you're sitting next to it.

My partner really wanted to try their Boat Noodle for a while now so we were quite excited to try that dish. The waiter was nice and recommended a couple dishes for us. Som Tum (Papaya Salad) 3/5 The texture was nice and it tasted refreshing but it is QUITE spicy. I appreciate the authentic Thai spice level but it was too spicy for us. I liked the sourness and I know this rating is a very personal rating based on our spice tolerance. Roti with Curry Sauce 3.75/5 Nice, flaky roti that wasn't too oily. I wish there was a little more sauce. Pad See Ew with Crab Meat 4/5 Great flavor. There was a decent number of clumped up noodle but the portion was great. Good amount of crab as well. Boat Noodle Soup 4.25/5 This was the best boat noodle we had so far. Flavorful broth with generous portion of various meats. There could be an option to get more noodles but my partner got this and she was satisfied with the amount since there were good chunks of meat. Good heat that creeps up. Roselle Drink 3.75-4.5/5 Great compliment to the dishes as it lightened and refreshed our pallette. Slightly sour. It tasted better with the food than by itself. Thai Milk Tea 3.5/5 Good enough. Wasn't the best but wasn't bad. Rainbow Sweet Sticky Rice 4.25/5 We were surprised it came in a cup and that it was soup-ier than we imagined. I was hoping that they had mango sticky rice but we thoroughly enjoyed the coconut I think it's also important to keep in mind that this is a relatively fast paced restaurant. There is some wait so you want to finish your food, pay, and leave. The staff was nice but we could tell that they wanted to keep the flow. We would be coming back again for sure! We tried three dishes this time. We had MOO TOD PRIK TAI DUM as appetizer. It's fried pork loin with tamarind dipping sauce. The pork was surprisingly lean yet tender. We had PAD PONG GARREE CRAB MEAT (turmeric curry with crab meat) and PAD KEE MAO CRAB MEAT (stir fired sheet noodles with crab meat) as our mains. Both dishes came with impressive amount of crab chunks. They were very flavorful and delicious. The curry was smooth and went so well with rice. The Pad Kee Mao was very well done too! The noodles were chewy, with layers of tastes - savory and herbal (lemongrass/ lemon leaves?) and it has wok hei too! Service was good. Servers were helpful and friendly!
