Very good Thai restaurant in Lindenhurst is another new comer that I hope sticks around. Dinner started with a rather disappointing appetizer of chicken wrapped in sticky rice cooked in banana leaf. Virtually no flavor except for the sturdy peanut sauce served on the side. Penang curry was spicy and flavorful. The lemongrass pork chops are delicious, perfectly marinated and served with dipping sauces on the side to kick it up a notch. I was going to settle for a homemade turkey burger for dinner but the wife wanted Thai food so Thai food it was. The only Asian food I'm really accustomed to is your typical urban neighborhood Chinese restaurants and Hibachi. I've had Thai food maybe 4 times in my life but after this experience, I'll be making up for lost time. I ordered the Basil Fried Rice with chicken. If you're a fan of spicy food then you'd enjoy this. If not, then stay away. My wife can't handle spicy food but she insisted on tasting it even after my warning. She did say it was good...then the spiciness kicked in. I, on the other hand enjoyed every bite. The serving size is enough for 2 but I just couldn't put my fork down. I loved it. My wife ordered the cashew chicken with Jasmine rice. It was good. My wife's problem with it was that there was not enough chicken or cashews. It was still good nonetheless. She also ordered the calamari as an appetizer. The texture was weird and the serving size was small. It came on top of a bed of lettuce so there it seemed more like a calamari salad. It felt soft and was not crispy at all as most calamari is. The Mrs. said she wouldn't order it again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Though I don't live in or near Lindenhurst, I traveled there several times to visit a boat shop down the road. I stopped by this restaurant twice -- first time with wife and kids and second time alone. Very kid-friendly -- lots of space, and kids were happy there. Food was great, very spicy, and flavorful. I asked for "no MSG" and they said they don't use it anyway, which was nice. Felt great after both meals. Also, the waitresses were very nice, and also friendly with the kids. Lunch specials are filling. Curries and fried rice dishes all very good. I'll stop here every time I go back to MarineMax. read more

I ordered Shrimp Pad See Ew for delivery at around 9pm and it was so good I actually called it "Exceptional" out loud when I was trying to describe it to someone. The curry is very bland, the chicken is tough and chewy, you can tell it wasn't cooked in the curry sauce, but made separately in large amounts to add in. Mine was ready in 15 minutes (though they didn't give me a timeframe for when it would be ready- that's something that I feel should be fixed... I just guessed and winged it). I ordered the Panang Curry and it was very good, though if you like spice it'll make you sweat! They gave me A LOT for the $14 I spent on it. I would have appreciated a little bit more rice compared to how much of the curry I received. Overall it was a positive experience. This place has gone downhill - fast. Ordered a few weeks ago - garlic chicken - asked extra shiitake and less scallions. Got maybe one shiitake mushroom, tons of sliced water chestnuts (I think that's what they were) , tons of scallions and very chewy chicken. Also got charged an extra $3. Wasn't happy. Thai Basil is a humble restaurant with very good Thai food located in the heart of Lindenhurst. The inner decor is very nice and clean, and I am always blown away by the flavors in the food. If you are looking for amazing Thai food in the area, this is a MUST. The only downside is that they are closed on Monday or Tuesday, which is strange but must be part of their traditions because another Thai restaurant that I frequent closes during the normal work week as well. Interesting. I hardly go out for Thai food unless I don't have time to cook myself. Being Thai, of course, I can genuinely say this is not an authentic Thai Restaurant. It is obviously chinese owned and practically a Chinese restaurant with a Thai Menu. Words are spelled wrong on the menu and food was way sub par. The Pad See Ew I ordered for my wife tasted like Chicken Chow Fun, although this dish is derived from the chinese.. it doesn't taste like the thai version and the chicken was rubbery. I ordered Tum Kha Gai, which was almost there flavor wise. But it shouldn't have been orange. The only reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars is because of the Lemongrass Porkchop. Which was actually pretty good. However, the rice was soo undercooked you can literally separate every grain of rice. Thats just basic Asian stuff.. get that right atleast. It seems to be the trend in this area.. not one authentic Thai restaurant. 3rd one I've tried in 2 yrs in the Copaigue/Lindenhurst area. Not good. I'm pretty impressed by this place. I've never seen this pace crowded, which is disappointing. The food is really good, and reasonably priced. The service is great too! I love their coconut chicken soup, and pad Thai. I've had other menu items, and they have all been excellent. The only thing that did not thrill me were their Vietnamese spring rolls. But to be fair, I've had authentic Vietnamese spring rolls and it's almost like eating pizza at a Chinese food buffet. It's just not their forte. But anything thai, this place is well worth it. Best Thai food around! The quality of food is amazing. I ordered the vegetable curry with coconut rice and vege dumplings. It's become my favorite. The delivery service is top notch. I received my food in 15-20 mins. The prices are fair. Delivery minimum is also pretty fair as well compared to most places in the area. The variety of food is very wide and the food is authentic to the culture. I was referred to Thai Basil through a coworker. They've definitely have become my favorite place period. Super healthy options. I love how I can customize my meals to vegan which a lot of places do not do. I'll be really upset if I have to move to another area and miss out on the amazing food. I'm a big eater and enjoy going out to restaurants with my wife. We eat out about 5 times per week. When Thai Basil first opened we tried it. So here is my opinion based on my personal expectations. As far as value goes it would get about a 7 out of 10. The food was quite good but the portions I believe should have been larger for the cost. The ambiance was ok but for the cost should have been better. I will give it a 7 out of 10 also. It was very plain and definitely fitting for the area but had it been more posh it may have justified the cost. The menu was not as clear as it should have been and would probably be quite confusing for someone dining and not familiar with Thai food. My score for food quality would be 8.5 out of 10. I would definitely go there again simply because there aren't many Thai food places to go to and it is very close to where I live. The final cost was just under $80 for the 2 of us including tip. This is quite a bit more than I would typically spend for a casual dinner for 2 without alcohol. Good food but a bit pricy. read more
