We used to visit a Vietnamese restaurant at this location many years ago and it's nice to see it come back to life with a new name and new owners. Our food was very good. We enjoyed the noodle bowls and egg rolls. The service was good. The decor, seating, and all things interior don't seem to have been updated at all. Delicious food and great service in a very casual setting. The pho ga (chicken) was super legit. Most places will use beef broth and add chicken. Not here - the chicken broth was perfection. Eggrolls is made with rice paper which is very authentic Vietnamese. Chicken had a lot of flavor and not very dry. This is a small family owned restaurant so service is very personable. I've been waiting to write this one as part one of my biased close-to-home series of comfort foods. Two big things stand out about this spot: i can get a combo shrimp, pork, and chicken vermicelli bowl for ~15$ (great deal) and the staff. The set up seems like a family affair, or at least gives off that vibe. The guy i see working the front is direct, but cordial. Interactions with him fill the diversity gap in my day-to-day life living here in Colorado as a transplant and it just hits different. Someone from the kitchen served me the bowl. I assume this since she a) came from the kitchen and b) was wearing an apron. But i heard assumptions make a butt out of you and me, so excuse me if that is all moot. As person who needs a fairly priced go-to close-by spot when exam time hits and I'm not taking care of myself, this satisfies. read more

This Vietnamese restaurant is close to my house so I decide to order takeout based on the good Yelp reviews. It was just ok. A few items to note...there was a dog curled up in a chair in the back. I am a dog lover but also a respect health regulations and this seemed to be one. The inside is dated and I noted a few bottles of sirracha on the tables that looks like they hadn't been cleaned in days. When I placed my order the man who answered the phone does not speak very good English so, it was very difficult to even place my order. I was very concerned because my husband is allergic to shrimp and though we didn't order any dishes with shrimp I feared they be some cross contamination. When I arrived that same man was behind the register but a women came out to give me the food and seemed to speak very good English. As I made sure with her that there was no shrimp exposure. The peanut sauce that came with the spring rolls was very flavorful but the roll only had lettuce and rice noodles in them. I was hoping for mushrooms and carrots as well. The sauce actually had carrot pieces which I found odd. I also got a noodle dish with veggies. It was fine, nothing special and my husband felt the same about his chicken and broccoli dish. Absolutely love this mom and pop place. Truly mom and dad cooking daughters serving. The pho was absolutely amazing. The broth was nice and rich with a good portion of veggies on the side. A cozy family-run restaurant with mom cooking everything in the back, this joint provided great service and delicious comfort food for us while visiting from sunny LA. I would definitely recommend the fried chicken wings, coated with melted butter right before serving. The sriracha and chili oil were fire . Yes, the food here is decent. The noodle bowls are generous and flavorful. We also had spring rolls and they were just OK but seemed freshly made. However, if you take a trip back to the restrooms, you will see how dirty this restaurant is. The floors are grimy throughout and the womens bathroom is full of junk and equipment and basically trash. it looks like the owner sits at a cluttered, junk filled back booth until someone comes in. Who knows how clean the kitchen is if the front of the restaurant is so dirty. I wouldn't be surprised if they have cockroaches back there. They need to deep clean this facility badly. Their pho was so good. It's a small, family owned restaurant, and you can taste the passion this family has for this restaurant. I got pho with tendon, beef and brisket. The broth was very flavorful. The noodles were springy. And the meat was great. Highly recommend. I don't find myself in this particular part of town all that often. I had just finished up at Regis University main campus, and was looking to grab lunch. The handy-dandy Yelp app showed this place close by. It had good reviews from people I knew. So, a short while later I found myself pulling into the Latino dominated strip mall. It was after the lunch rush on a cold and snowy day, and the place was not at all busy. I ordered my standard small Pho with rare steak (PHO TAI Rare sliced beef). It was definitely solid. Good broth, nice veggies, tasty meat. It was a decent portion size for the low price. The veggies that came with it were fairly fresh. If I had one complaint about it, it would be that the sliced onions had a metallic tang. Most people wouldn't have noticed, but I am guessing they had been sitting in a metal bowl/tray for a while. This was a small issue, and I just ate around them. After reading the positive appetizer reviews, I knew I had to make a choice. I opted for the "Vietnamese pancake", This crispy pancake/omelet-like dish came out piping hot. It had a little shrimp, a bit of ham, some onion, and a fair amount of beansprouts fried within it. It was greasy, and messy, and tasty, and wonderful. If you think lettuce wraps are hard to eat, this takes it to the next level of difficulty. You cut off hot pieces of fried goodness and stuff them into huge lettuce leaves, along with cilantro and basil. You then dip it in the very tangy nuoc mam. With any luck, you can then bring this up to your mouth without leaving a sticky and greasy trail across your shirt and chin. I was (mostly) successful in this endeavor. If I am in the area again, I will definitely drop by to try out other items on the menu. read more

Short review: I have been patronizing this restaurant before Regis bought out K-mart and have at one time or another ordered most of their menu and there is not a single one I wouldn't order again. It seems every time I go there they are better than the last. They obviously are family owned and the last one of them are s nice, polite and sweet as anyone can be. Thai Bao is pho-king awesome! There are so many Vietnamese places I've been to and this place's pho is one of the best I've had in Colorado! Also, you don't get greeted by a Bruce Lee lookalike everyday either! The first time I came here when the owner came up and greeted us, I had to do a double take because I thought he looked so much like Bruce Lee with that upside down bowl haircut! Super awesome guy! I was introduced to Pho in Hawaii when I moved to the States for college. Not sure if the Vietnamese in Hawaii are mostly from North or South Vietnam but the Vietnamese food there is out of this world. Let me count the ways why I am in love with Thai Bao for Traditional Vietnamese Pho... 1 - They have satay sauce but you have to ask for it. All Vietnamese places in Hawaii have satay sauce, it's like a chili paste that comes in a jar that you scoop out to mix with the plum sauce and sriracha for your pho dipping use. Some places in Colorado should be ashamed of themselves for not knowing or not carrying in their restaurants. 2 - Their combination pho comes with meatball, just like Hawaii. Any other place I've been to if you want meatballs you have to pay extra. How is combination not one of everything on the pho selection at other places is beyond me. This place the combination means, all of the above. 3 - Ice coffee with condense milk. Yes, other places have it but this place Bruce Lee lookalike makes it for you! Whenever I'm at any other pho place, they try to make it an interactive thing. I don't want to interact when I order my coffee, I just want to drink it. ;) 4 - Spring rolls comes 3 in an order for $3.95. 3, not 2. Other places charges about 50 cents to 75 cents less but only comes with 2. The rolls are on the larger side too. And they cut it for you if you are sharing between 2 people. 5 - Their small comes in a bowl slightly bigger than other places I've been to. So when you put in your fixings, you don't spill or have your veggies go overboard. 6 - They serve alcohol, specifically variations of beer at a very reasonable price. 7 - They deliver within 3 miles radius for orders $15 and above. I live 3.2 miles away and the owner agrees to deliver to me if I order $15 - 20 worth of stuff each time. YES! Yummy delivery food is what I've been looking for. I have not tried anything else other than their Pho, but the Pho alone is what keeps me coming back. The decor is not much to brag about but you definitely get your bang for your buck here, cheap good eats... not to mention Bruce Lee. ;) read more

If you go into this place knowing the service blows, you'll be golden. Seriously, it blows. I went here for lunch and was amazed at how cheap everything was. Small bowl of pho for under $6--not too shabby! I was the only person in here (perhaps the sketchville strip mall it's located in scares people away?) I ordered, pho came out shortly after then I never saw one of the three employees again. I doctor my pho up so its spicy and could have used a water refill or chopsticks but they were busy eating lunch and hanging out a few booths away. I finally got up, asked for the stuff, finished my meal and got out of there. Fantastic pho, horrible service. Why are there 2 dogs with bowls of food and water in the dining room??! The health department does not permit that. 3' cob webs in the bathroom, dirty floors & walls. I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. Raise your prices and reinvest in your restaurant!!!!! Otherwise close it down. I HATE leaving bad reviews but it would be a diss-service to the general public not to give a warning. It's Disgusting. You guys are no doubtably better than that. Hole in the wall places are usually undiscovered so I thought I would try this place due to its good reviews. There were empty tables but they were busy with phone in orders. Food came out in a timely manner. I ordered tofu with vegetables and it was swimming in oil. The tofu appeared over fried? I don't know if there's even such a thing. The outer part was hard. Some of the vegetables weren't fresh. The bokchoy leaves was cut off probably because it's at its end of life stage. I can see a part of the kitchen where I was sitting and I don't trust a place with a dirty floor. With that being said, I don't plan on coming back here. read more

Woot woot! I found one of the Vietnamese restaurants I plan to frequent a lot! I would say the food here is ~4.5, but the staff (the owner, I think?) was super nice, so 5 stars it is! Don't let the location steer you away from this place. Thai Bao is basically in the middle of nowhere. I turned into the strip mall lot and thought I was in the wrong place because it seemed so dark and empty. Once I passed the cowboy supply store, I finally noticed the sign for Thai Bao. I was a little skeptical because the place looked empty, but I decided to give it a shot anyway. After all, all the great restaurants in San Jose are in strip malls (sometimes shady lookin!) so maybe this was the same. Turns out I was right! The food is pretty delectable. I ordered the BBQ lemongrass pork and egg roll noodle bowl, which came out pretty quickly. This bowl is GIANT, full of vermicelli noodles, a mix of lettuce and herbs, egg rolls, and bbq pork. The eggrolls, while hot and crispy, weren't my favorite, but they were decent. Slightly under-seasoned and nothing to write home about. The BBQ pork was pretty tasty though! Mixed everything together with the prepared fish sauce and it was . I definitely took a break halfway for a breather before I ended up finishing the bowl. So good! Service was great--they brought over the food, checked on me once, but otherwise left me alone. Not too fussy and not negligent. I'm a little bummed out for Thai Bao because I really think they should get more traffic than they do because the food is pretty good! My meal was under $10 (with tip!), so a really good deal. Must have been an off night... A really off night. Date of Visit: 1/18/15 On my never-ending search for the best Thai in Denver, I gave Thai Boa a shot per it's 4-star rating. We ordered some Pho and Pad Thai, which I admittedly try just about everywhere and consider a decent barometer of the food as a whole. While the Pho was average, the Pad Thai was well below it. Not only were the noodles much flatter and wider than any PT I have had before, they were all stuck together, and the sauce was just plain bad. It tasted like something that had been sitting out for a while, yet I was there to pickup the order as soon as it came out of the kitchen. Add to that, if I had walked into the place to dine-in I would have quickly left, as it was one of the more rundown restaurants I have seen. Dirty carpet, dingy atmosphere, etc. I'm not sure if it was just a (really) bad night for the kitchen or what, but after the food and seeing the condition of the restaurant, I wouldn't take my chances there again. read more

I only had a weekend stay in Denver, so this was my only trip to a Viet restaurant. Which sucked, because I heard Denver had some fine Viet restaurants. I wasted a day eating at some Chinese take out. (My job only allowed me eat out only once per day - at night time) Maybe I was biased(I haven't had some good asian food in denver before this) and inexperienced(this was the only viet place I went in Denver) to give this place four stars - but I had such a good time here that I highly recommend this place. Being an experienced Viet food person(from NYC), I believe this Thai Bao definitely surpassed my expectations. I had a grilled pork with rice - their grilled pork had plenty of tender, juicy meat, with little bone. The rice was cooked perfectly, and their pickled carrots and radishes blended perfectly with my dish. My friend had grilled beef cubes with vermicelli thin noodles - which was very standard among viet restaurants. The cubes were crunchy, and their home made dipping sauce(light orange color) had plenty of pickled carrots which mixed great with the vermicelli. It also was great with the rice too. The hot sauce was off the supermarket, but still great with the food. Their fried egg rolls weren't that bad. Very crispy and delicious, excellent with the dipping sauce. The flour to filling ratio was excellent. Try it out. Their restaurant is located within a huge one level plaza with ample parking in a shared lot. Once you enter their restaurant, it seems like you just went in to a lush jungle of Vietnam. Their decor includes painted trees on the walls which gives a jungle feeling. Their customer service is very friendly and helpful. They usually will have some Vietnamese show going on the tv. I highly recommend a visit to Thai Bao. read more

Amidst the throes of my newly onset sinus infection, I decided to ride my bike (don't have a car) the mile-ish to Thai Bao in search of something to ease the pain for a bit. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a smile and a menu. I went for #12 (the kitchen sink Pho.) I also asked what kind of beers they might have that aren't listed on the menu and was told they had Saigon. Having never tried that particular beer I couldn't refuse. Before I had time to finish checking myself in on FB and respond to a couple other notifications, the "small" Pho I ordered came out with my beer. I like it spicy and sweet so I mixed in all the jalapenos, plenty of basil that I tore up into smaller bits, a good handfull of bean sprouts, a good squeeze of hoisin, and a nice healthy squeeze of Sriracha. I was just a little disappointed at the lack of culantro (ngò gai), but soon had all my reservations crushed along with the entire bowl of Pho. Saigon, btw, is a great little Vietnamese beer. I'd drink it every time if they had it. Finally, I have to make this a tie for first because of the close proximity to my house, but Pho Duy on Federal is my go to if ever I have a ride there. I told my waiter this was my first time trying and Pho and asked his recommendation, he suggested #2. When he brought me my bowl he told me to first try the broth, then add some siracha and then the H---- sauce (I can't remember what the sauce was called), this made a delicious difference. Then he told me the sides were bean sprouts, jalapenos and basil. I added in all three. My lunch was super delicious, filling and affordable. I will go here again when in the Denver area. read more
