Herb Crusted Chicken with sautéed onions
    Judi B.

Let's get one thing straight...I do not go out of my way to give chain restaurants 5-star ratings. To be honest, I've had so-so, good and great experiences at this location and have hesitated to write a review. However, especially over the past 6 months, all of my experiences have been great...today being better than the rest. To start, our server Lisa was incredible. She was warm, funny, accurate, proactive and suggestive without being pushy. Never wanted for a thing under her service as she was ahead on all drink refills and swung by the table often even with a heavy table load. The rolls were hot and fresh. I still wish they served with regular whipped butter rather than the honey butter, but I digress. I ordered the herb crusted chicken with a side salad and fries. Lisa suggested it with the grilled mushrooms and onions but I'm not a fan of mushrooms...she offered just onions with a promise I would love it, and if not, an immediate replacement. Done. House salad came out first...all veggies were delightfully fresh and paired nicely with the ranch dressing. I am actually not a huge fan of their ranch dressing as it's too thick and not as flavorful as I want it to be...but this salad and ranch was a great pairing. Food came out quickly...and I was immediately impressed with how juicy the chicken looked. Well I found out that it was also exquisitely tender (no need for a knife). The grilled onions just bumped it up a notch on the delicious scale. Fries were crispy, but had soggy edges from the chicken juices...still fantastic. Hubby had the top sirloin with mashed potatoes and brown gravy. Lisa went the extra mile to cover the steak with gravy too, which he loved. Licked that plate clean. Excellent service, great food. Highly suggest downloading the app, using the waitlist option and joining the vip club.

I am going to start this review with why does Texas Roadhouse have call ahead seating when management plans on pushing your table back anyways? My sister did call ahead seating. We were a party of 16 so we knew it was going to be challenging fitting all of us in. Texas Roadhouse isn't the best place for large parties but my nephew wanted to celebrate his 21st birthday here. We were told to arrive at 5:45. Our reservation was at 6. 6:15 rolled around... Nothing. 6:25 came and nothing. I finally went up the the host stand. My brother in law checked in a few times and their response was "they are trying to get guests out". When I asked why a few big tables have been sat before us and the hostesses response was that they only need 2 tables vs we needed 3. I saw people come after us, eat and leave while we were still waiting for our tables. The hostess also stated that the manager had basically given our tables away to different guests 3 times. No communication from the manager to the host about the switch. The hostess called management to come up to talk to me. The manager was called many times over the head set before she headed up front. Her coward self couldn't explain why she switched up tables without communicating with the host. Just a bunch of garbage coming out of her mouth with no real explanation. Then she walked off like a joke. The kitchen manager did come up and take accountability for what happened. I don't know why he was taking blame for the floor manager's stupidity. I appreciate that he talked to us and tried to make it right. Not like his counterpart who walked off like a clown. She should not be in management if she can't take the heat for screwing up. We were finally sat 6:40. They gave us 2 bs tables when the whole time they were gaslighting us about 3 tables. That's why they couldn't seat us. "We needed 3 tables". They did give us some apps to calm the flames. But honestly, you think an onion blossom is going to fix the manager's stupidity for screwing up? We had 2 servers tonight. One at each table. They were good servers but their timing was off. It started off promising and then it fell apart. We got served our dinner when the kids were still waiting for their starters like salad and chili. We were boxing up our dinner and the second half of the kids table hadn't even gotten their meals yet. It was complete sh!t show. Granted, the servers did try really hard to make up for how things started with the pony show for my birthday and my nephew's birthday. But how can you recover from that big of a flop? My food was cold. I got beef tips for dinner. The mashed potatoes were not warm and my gravy on my steak tips had already started to have a film from sitting in the kitchen from sitting under a heat lamp. Not the most appealing way to receive your food but you can't be picky when you're hungry. I wouldn't use the word disappointing for tonight's dining experience. Is there even a word worse than disappointing? I'm mad that we spent our hard earned money on this place tonight. I didn't even take any photos of my food cause it looked like complete trash. Film on my gravy, gravy splattered on the rim of my plate. "Just shove it out". The sad thing is this is my father in law's favorite joint so I know we will be back. I just know not to have any expectations in this joint. No expectations means no disappointment. My last words for this review is get rid of the manager with the shoulder length brown hair. She's not an asset at all for your company and your standards. Unless this is how you're branding your company and she's the face of your new brand.

    Meh.

Hmm! Ok. So I hate when I have to talk *badly* about any business. I only do so when warranted and honestly, I don't think what I have to say is all THAT bad. I was just disappointed is all. Back on August 19th 2024, a couple of my friends from Arizona were here in Idaho for the week. I haven't seen them in years. Every time they come here, something always comes up and we miss each other. Instead of getting the blame this time (hahaha) I made sure we met up. I missed them and seeing these guys literally gives one life. They're amazing. They suggested Texas Roadhouse. Now, in the past, my experiences at Texas Roadhouse has always been a great experience(s). I have noooooo idea what the hell happened to this place. I should mention, the last time I ate at their restaurant was when I was in Arizona and that was YEARS ago! Honestly, I think the last time was when they still used sawdust on the floors and gave each table a bucket of peanuts and the shells would be all over the place. You'd think that'd be kinda trashy, right? The prices sure weren't trashy tho haha! It certainly wasn't a Dennys back then. Nowadays tho, eek! I hate to say it, but the quality of the food is very similar to Dennys, BUT with the same costs or actually, much higher now and especially these days seeing as EVERYTHING is expensive. I was stoked to eat here again bc I only had great memories of this place, but damn! The chicken I got looked more like steak strips lol, also was tough like a well done steak. Was it good? Well, you know how some times you get a plate and so much of it is crap? But then there are like 6-10 bites where you are like..."damn! Ok! This sh_t is slappin!" That's how it was with the chicken lol. The fries. Steak fries are always good. This time... they were not. Soggy. soggy. soggy. There's nothing hate more than soggy fries! Actually, soggy bread might be worse lol That brings me to the bread they serve. Rather, the rolls. Now these rolls SLAPPED! And that butter stuff they serve with it! Oooooh, chyle! Now that sh_t is GOOD! I had way too many of those rolls lol. My friends were 30 mins late. So they kept bringing rolls lol. Once I tasted that Texas Roadhouse butter..:it was ova! Is it sad that the rolls were the best part of the meal? I'd think so. The staff was super friendly. From the second I walked in to the second we all left. Our waitress, super friendly, but she rarely RARELY ever came back to the table to check drinks, ask if we needed anything. Again, very nice girl, but waitress-wise... oof, not the best. I get that it was incredibly busy. This is located at the village. Major tourist trap. So naturally this place would be busy, but I just think if one can't handle big crowds maybe waiting tables isn't for them? I actually hate saying anything bad about her, because she was so nice, but yeah, was just kinda taken aback by that. Would I go here again? Yeah...no. The quality of their food is gone. I wonder if they got bought out by some corporation and they ruined what was once great about this once amazing chain restaurant. I know my review won't change anyone's mind, but this is worth putting out into the world...especially if you remember how amazing this place once was. Again, it's at the village. Sooooo many restaurants in that area. This place is convenient, especially if you can't get a table anywhere else...but even the wait here can be long. Use caution when going here haha! If you want quality? Skip this place and find a place close by or head to Eagle of Boise. Thanks for reading, Yelperoadsters!! Cheers!

Great service, great food with huge portions. We had Brenda tonight and she was amazing, she knew the menu inside & out, she was quick to fill up our drinks before they were empty and she had a great personality, we couldn't have asked for a better night celebrating my sons 18th birthday.

Food is always good. Skip the appetizers since you get plenty in entrée. A family spot with children so it will get noisy.

Ask the Community - Texas Roadhouse

    Do they take reservations?

Yes they do. You can go on their website and do the reservations on there. After that, it's all through text messages on your phone. Very easy process.

Have they stopped the line dancing with the incredibly obnoxiously loud country music?

They have not done this at the Boise location any time I visit.

I've had takeout from here on many occasions and it's always good. Chose the pulled pork sandwich, Carolina style, which was delicious. Soft, good roll. Fresh coleslaw, and lots of pork. Great overall sandwich. My side of choice was the sweet potato fries. Decent portion and yummy, fried well, fries. Would repeat. Just next time with a beer :-)

We tried a mix of meats, and there was plenty to like. The pulled pork stood out as the best of the bunch--tender, flavorful, and exactly what you hope for from good BBQ. The spicy BBQ sauce was a highlight too: it's got a real kick--hot in a fun, nostalgic way, like a high school pool party where things get a little wild but in the best sense. The tri-tip was decent, though it leaned a bit young and could've benefited from a touch more time or seasoning to really shine. The chicken was cooked nicely--juicy and not overdone--but felt like it needed a little extra smoky pizzazz to stand out. On the plus side, the buns were excellent across the board, soft but sturdy enough to hold everything together without falling apart. Service was top-notch--friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience easy and enjoyable. Overall, a really pleasant lunch spot with some strong offerings and a great atmosphere. I'd say it would absolutely earn a nod of approval from my  St. Louis BBQ grandpa and his crew from Wells-Goodfellow--satisfying, honest barbecue with a few standout bites and a good time to go with it.

The two servers behind the counter are completely discombobulated. And, one of the employees just touched the inside of my sanitized to-go container with their bare hands after being out on the floor, touching dirty dishes, handling the dirty cash register, touching other surfaces. and everything else. The other server seems to be completely lost and staring off of the distance wiping counters while there's orders pending. My order. She really doesn't seem to be able to focus very well and know what to do. For example, there are plates of food sitting on the prep table, ready to go out and she walks over and looks at my ticket and then just stands there and wipes the counter. My to go order would literally take probably 30 seconds to put it into a container, weigh, and hand it to me, but she just won't do it. And, the other patron's food is getting cold. It seems like the guy that's on duty is the brains of the operation and he's doing all the work. I get out to my truck and the burnt ends feel really light in contrast to my brisket order. I ordered a half a pound of burnt ends, and 1/3 of a pound of brisket. Something isn't right. I take the burnt ends back in and show the guy that was at the register when I came in, he agreed something went wrong. It looked like a third of a pound, but I would argue that it wasn't even a third. By the way, this was prepared by the girl working that was daydreaming. He then made it right and handed back my tray, which I was grateful. He was apologetic and he took care of it well. Just to be clear, he did not give me more than half a pound but he made it right. And then went to go pick up a plastic fork, that's usually over in a cup on the counter, but there were none. So I had to get their attention quickly and ask for a fork and they pulled one up from behind the counter, after I was told they were over by the beverage machine. They both seem surprised that there were none up there ready to go. The food as usual was delicious. This is the sad part. The service is all over the map and completely in need of some serious management and restructure. I realize that it's very difficult to get good help these days, but this is a training issue. I can't go back in now knowing that the last 3 to 5 times I've gone in there. I've always had a problem with service. If the food was piping hot when it arrived, I might not be so bothered, but this lack of efficiency causes the food to be delivered cold. That's not my definition of a good experience. If you have a lot of time on your hands, and you don't mind waiting, and you don't mind your food warm instead of hot, then I would say venture out and try this place because the flavor and textures are good. Just set your expectations accordingly. The atmosphere is comfortable and rustic. A little loud because of the openness, no booths, just tables and chairs with 1/2 booth. Lots of self service going on here so be careful before you tip at the register. By the way, I chose not to tip at the time of payment when I walked in because I don't like tipping in advance of receiving the service. The purpose of the gratuity is to compensate your server based on the service they delivered, not will deliver or should deliver. Or in this case didn't deliver. I realize that not tipping on the front end gives the employees a chance to retaliate with poor service because you didn't tip. Oh how the times have changed.
