I'd actually rate it more like a 4.5; there were one or two little tiny issues with the range experience that kept it from being quite a perfect score: Took my Dad here for his birthday. What better way to celebrate than exercising a Constitutional right in a fun way, right? I called them to see if I needed to make reservations etc. Turns out reservations are only for members, but that's totally okay and not a problem. I spoke to Natalie on the phone, who was so friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful--and she was the perfect introduction to this place, because everyone we spoke to and dealt with were the same. They were ALL happy and helpful; they were ALL very knowledgeable; and, most importantly for me on this particular day, they ALL seemed to genuinely care that it was my Dad's birthday, and wanted him to have a fun day. Check-in was easy: there's a little bank of iPads, and you watch a brief safety video and fill out a form. I would suggest that they have at least one iPad with larger print, because it was difficult for Dad to read the form and fill it out--I helped him, but for older customers, it might be nice to have a member of staff nearby (perhaps this is available for older customers who are by themselves, I don't know. So it's not a complaint, just a suggestion). We browsed a bit in their awesome store, and then checked in at the range. I didn't get the name of the girl who helped us, but my receipt says, "RH." She, again, was great. I especially appreciated that she didn't give me my total verbally (I signaled to her to request this, as I know my dad and didn't want him making a fuss about how much I was spending on him)--it's subtle things like this, little things, that make a good customer experience great. Lots of people wouldn't care about that sort of thing, but she did. The cost of the range and gun rental is excellent. Ammo is expensive. I don't think the ammo cost is the fault of the store, though, I think ammo is just expensive in general these days. We headed into the range, and here is where my minor quibbles are. First, we were told the maximum number of people per lane was four, but when we first went back, we were in a lane *right next to* a group of at least six people. I actually think it was really nice that this obvious family was allowed to take just one lane! It's nice to know TGE is flexible. That's not my issue. My issue is that it would have been nice, considering that their group was oversized, if we'd been able to leave an empty lane between them and us, because we felt rather crowded--they were spilling out right behind us. There were at least two other lanes free. Again, not a big deal, just it would have been nice not to feel crowded. The other minor quibble was that we could have used more help, especially in the beginning. The way it works at TGE is your rented firearms are left in the lane for you; sensible, but it means there's no introduction or instruction. They each have a tag in the chamber; we had no idea what those tags were or what to do with them. No one's waiting there to show you the safety and mag release of your rented firearm; you have to figure it out yourself. It frankly felt unsafe, having newbies pick up weapons and just start poking around to figure out how to load them etc. I felt less confident with my rented guns and the experience in general because of this. It's true that the lane attendants are close by, and happy to help! But they didn't tell us anything until we asked. Like, they removed one of the tags for us, but didn't take the time to also point out the mag release and safety on that weapon and the others. My dad didn't know there was a red dot sight in the M16 until he'd already fired a number of rounds (the attendant noticed he wasn't hitting the target very well, so pointed it out). That felt like a waste. We had been shooting before, yes, but it was clear we were trying new weapons, so having an attendant go over each gun's basics with us at the start would have been really helpful, and I wish that was an automatic thing there (as it was at the other range where I used to shoot). Neither of those minor quibbles marred the experience, though! We had a blast (pun intended), and will definitely go there again. It's friendly, family-friendly, and welcoming to everyone. There was none of the sort of "you're an outsider" feeling that I've seen at a few other gun stores/ranges in the past. Their knife store is pretty great, too! I plan to buy a firearm in the near future, and can't wait to make my purchase at TGE. (One other minor complaint: a bigger range of targets would be welcome. My old range had zombie targets, which was super fun. TGE's selection is pretty limited.) I highly recommend Texas Gun Experience for great shopping and shooting! read more

If my family and I had to describe the Texas Gun Experience with one word, we would choose ....... "PHENOMENAL!!!!" The staff and service received from their employees named Jaylee Tyree and both Trevor's (including floor sales representative and the Gunsmith customer service area) each did a superb job offering customer service at its best! Jaylee took us on a tour through the VIP area sharing all that Texas Gun Experience has to offer and not leaving out the classes that they offer taught by knowledgeable and experienced instructors! The attention to detail that Jaylee and both Trevor's provided was amazing! My son read the excellent reviews of Texas Gun Experience prior to our first visit that could quickly provide him with the additional knowledge as well as to obtain answers to many of his questions prior to his arrival to the range. My son was not disappointed with his first Firearm purchase, and since our initial first visit, we have revisited it on multiple occasions. My son has even brought his Big-Sister and introduced her to the Texas Gun Experience friendly staff and all that they have to offer. The ability to provide excellent customer service and product knowledge such as what "Jaylee" and her colleagues possess are the skills that every company should review when deciding to extend promotions and merit increases. I really do like this place. But the reason I'm giving it one star is because of an encounter I had with an employee named Kevin. I believe he is the manager in the training department since he wore a red shirt. On December 23 I went to a class to put together an AR 15. As a gold Member I was supposed to receive 5% off of training. There was not a problem with the place in giving me 5% but they asked Kevin to ring it up and he acted if he was upset that we were asking for the 5% discount which we were entitled to. The guy actually sounded like he was raising his voice. As I said before this is a really nice place but that experience is causing me to cancel that membership and look for another range. It's not because of the 5% but because of his really bad service. UPDATE: After reading my review I appreciate Kevin and management contacting me and apologizing for the misunderstanding. Being a Marine Corps officer for 30 plus years I have been to and around many gy ranges and businesses across the US. The professionalism, knowledge and down right exceptional customer service is second to none. As soon as you walk in, their employees absolutely make you feel welcome without being pushy at all. They genuinely want to ensure you enjoy your experience there. It was amazing to see the owner / operators mingle with the public and give their undivided attention. My husband and I are new to the munitions game and we purchased our first firearm from here. We did that because of the people that work here, they immediately made us feel welcome and answered all our questions, very amateur ones....they were so willing to spend the time. So I signed up with the Women's Intro to Handgun class with Danielle, she was awesome. I didn't feel intimidated at all, she made us feel at ease with the class. So I booked a private lesson with her for my husband and I, she's really good at determining where your weakness are and how to correct them. I learned so much in a short time. Rachael, at the sign in desk, took time to help me with the registration and wanted to make certain that I had the correct instructions to work around a little technical glitch. Huge shoutout to Mando for assisting me in purchasing my first firearm. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and took his time answering every question. He showed me a few different models until I had a better idea of what I was looking for. I decided I wanted to "try before I buy", and as my first time shooting at TGE (I've shot a handful of times at ranges in CA), Mando graciously accompanied my wife and I to the range ensuring our safety and comfortability. I have known these people for awhile now. They are great to work with. I called when the Springfield Hellcat was announced and ask to be the 1st on the list when they received the one which you could mount the optic on. Got a call last week saying it was in. Picked it up and checked out the new place. It is Taj Mahal. The people there are always there to help me when needed from there gun smith to sale and the greeter at the door that help lead me to the section I am looking for. And really cool. I was visiting from California this past week. My brother-in-law thought myself and his brother ( from Boston) would enjoy a visit to TGE on " Full Auto Friday's " You would have thought the three of us had died and gone to Heaven. Good thing I had a diaper on! Whoever dreamt that up was a marketing Genius. You have an outstanding range facility and a super group of people running it. I attended the intro to handgun class and learned a lot of very useful information in a way that was both interesting and engaging. It is a great class for anyone who might not be totally used to handling guns or has never handled one before. I was hesitant of the beginner handgun class at first. The instructor Danielle was very informative & patient. Danielle's an excellent instructor. She would let us shoot after our classroom setting. Although I've visited the retail store before, my first range experience was on 04-28-20. The range layout and personnel are unequalled. I had a firearm failure (faulty extractor issue) immediately upon commencing my visit to the pistol range. Trevor, the TGE Armorer, had me up and going in no time. This facility and store is top notch. I am an avid shooter and enthusiast, this is my preferred location for range time, indoor training and merchandise. Well put together, clean and safe. The staff here are some of the best, if not THE best locally to DFW. Always helpful and friendly, the customer service here needs to be repeated other places. I purchased a Glock Model 45 from Michelle and returned to train with Kris Wanga. Kris is a former Marine and being a former Army Captain I was thoroughly impressed with not only his Training knowledge, but also his Training communication and technique.
