For many, they don't ask questions...they buy, they eat, and move on. But not me. I couldn't help but wonder how Texas and kolasches are related. Fusion is the foodie catch all phrase and you don't think of the word at a bakery. But it's interesting to know how it happened nonetheless. "Kolasche" ( koe-la-cheez) means pastry in the Czech language. These brioche bun-filled pastries were introduced by immigrants to Texas in the 1800's. Texas Donuts offers 2 types: cheddar/sausage and a jalapeño cheddar sausage. It's a nice compact grab and go choice especially if you're not super hungry. For $2.99 plus tax, this is a budget win!

Believe the hype. Texas donuts was everything and more on my visit today. To start the location was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. A good variety of high quality donuts. Every donut was so fresh and flavorful. My favorite was for sure the maple bar and they give you the option to add whatever cream flavor you'd like! But the star of the show was the Kolache. The dough was sweet and perfectly cooked. The sausage had a fantastic cheese flavor. Didn't get to try the jalapeño cheese but I guarantee that it's amazing as well. For sure my new donut spot.

Super glad to find kolaches near me! These so were good. The top of the roll was washed in like a slightly sweet and sticky glaze, but the overall flavors were still savory. I tried both the cheddar and cheddar jalepeno. I would definitely come back for these.

Delicious delicious delicious!!! I had to try them and they were all so good! The service was great, & since they're popular you may wait in line for a couple of minutes on a weekend. I went on a Saturday so I had to wait a little bit I didn't mind as I know they are the talk of the town!

Worth the visit! Light and airy donuts. Delicious flavors. Loved the Cronut! Great Kreme to donut ratio, they fill them on spot, you choose flavor. Several fruit plus Kreme and Bavarian Great customer service. Tucked in a small strip mall just off 95 at lorton exit near Burger King. Went midday and still a decent selection, will go earlier in day next time.

What a treat! I lived in Dallas for 10 years, and the blueberry cake donuts there are amazing--but sadly hard to come by in the DMV. I recently saw a post on Instagram highlighting this donut shop, and when I saw they had blueberry cake donuts I knew I HAD to try it. They delivered the exact taste and texture I'm used to! Grabbed a half dozen donuts of several varieties, including: blueberry cake, red velvet cake, maple bacon, glaze and cinnamon roll. Not pictured, we also got a glaze twist and jalapeño kolache. Staff was friendly and helpful. When I needed a 6th donut to round out the half dozen, the gentleman who helped us recommend his favorite-- the cinnamon roll donut. If you're a cinnamon fan, it's worth a try. Everything was fresh and delicious, but standouts for me were the classic glaze and kolache. The glaze was by far the best donut I've had in YEARS. The kolache was warm and pillowy with just the right about of heat. The maple bacon had a nice balance of sweet, salty and savory. When we returned to the car, my parter and I tried a bite of each item. The glaze was so good, we went back inside to get 2 more. We'll seal these tightly to enjoy in the next day or 2. I wish I lived closer, so I could have these more often.

For the life of me I do not understand what people like about these donuts. I suppose if your palate is a custom to overly sweet, tasteless carb blobs this is right up your alley. Bavarian crème: donut is fluffy. Crème tastes only of gelatin, sugar, water, fake vanilla extract. Hardly any chocolate coating also melts off when smooshed in with other donuts. Buttermilk: tastes of sugar, crisco, flour, if the buttermilk is there it's in powder form and not noticeable should be moist however it is very dry. Cake with chocolate icing: dry, hardly any chocolate and overall flavorless. Kolache (not pictured): sausage with cheese. Overly proved dough tastes overwhelmingly of malted yeast, some weird sticky sugary salty coating on the top. Waste of money.

Food -4. Service - 5 ambiance - 4 A great donut is hard to find and we are always on the hunt. We went to pickup a dozen donuts one morning because this place gets pretty solid reviews. It was relatively busy for a weekday morning but we found out it was national doughnut day. They were giving half a dozen donut holes for free which was a nice surprise. We got an assortment and I enjoyed the apple fritter and the buttermilk the best. The maple bacon was a distant third. I was disappointed in the croughnut which was not nearly as light, sugary, and flaky as it should be. I wouldn't go out of my way to get these again but if I am around and the mood for donuts strikes I will be happy to get the fritter and buttermilk.

This is a great donut place to try in NOVA! The shop is quite small, and there was a line out the door at 8 AM in the morning, but the service is quick. They have a wide selection of donuts, including cake donuts, cronuts, and filled donuts. We ended up getting a dozen donuts, including the cronut, apple fritter, buttermilk cake donut, maple bacon donut, blueberry cake donut, cinnamon roll, and the Bavarian cream filled donut with chocolate glaze. We went on National donut day, so we also got around 6 donut holes for free. My favorite was definitely the apple fritter, which was really crispy on the outside, but had a nice soft texture on the inside. It had great cinnamon and apple flavor as well. The buttermilk cake donut was also nice and crispy on the outside, and light on the inside. The cronut was okay and I liked the amount of glaze on it, but I felt like the texture was off. I did enjoy its chewy texture to an extent, but I wish it was more flaky like other cronuts I have had. The maple bacon and the Bavarian cream filled donut were solid as well. The Bavarian cream filled donuts were nicely filled, and the donut had a nice texture. The cinnamon roll had nice flavor, but it was not my favorite out of the bunch. The same for the blueberry cake donut. Also, I felt like the blueberry cake donut needed more glaze on it. While I feel like the donuts are some of the best ones I have had in the area as of recent, the cronut was a little bit disappointing, along with some of the other donuts. And while I would order from here again, I feel as if this place is more of a 4/5 stars.

Some of the best donuts that will melt in your mouth! They have a good selection of donuts plus you have to check out their kolaches which I tried the last time I was in Texas so it was great trying it in VA. The ladies behind the counter were very friendly and welcoming which made this small shop all the more inviting. There isn't a seating area so your best option is to order and take it to go. I arrived to check this local donut shop towards the end of the day so unfortunately I wasn't able to see all their options but I will return to try some varieties that I didn't get to try during the first time.

Fresh baked donuts daily! They are open until they run out for day. Try the cronuts (I get what the rave is all about...its good). It's sweet, light, and fluffy. It almost taste healthy, which is deceiving because it's probably unhealthier than. Regular donuts. The flaky layers can really fool you. And the Texas donut is delish too because it's the size of your face! Whether it's for one person alone is questionable...but I surely at the entire thing in one sitting. Yum. read more

Bland, too sweet not worth the time or stop. also when paying cash we had to order at least 3 donuts!! What a crock!! Got 1 Coconut Sprinkle, 1 Maple Bacon & 1 Chocolate Buttermilk Glaze... VERY little coconut, the maple tasted weird and the bacon wasn't cooked properly it was too soft and rubbery and it wasn't until we drove off we discovered they put a nasty vanilla buttermilk NOT the chocolate buttermilk glazed that we were VERY specific as it's rare to find that type. Didn't finish any of them, threw them away. Waste of time, money and gas going to this place. read more

Ok we are impressed. The cronuts were amazing. They remind me of the donuts I got in Amish country. Fresh and fluffy and super yummy. I will be coming back. Although there was a line outside it is because it is a small store and only 3 people at a time allowed. The wait was bit too bad. read more

We stayed at a hotel across from this place, and man... THIS is the place to have breakfast in this town! Their doughnuts are yeast based, like my favorite chain, light and fluffy and SUPER fresh. And such reasonable prices, too! They have a nifty machine that stuffs the doughnuts with your preferred flavor filling for either longjohns or round doughnuts. I got a white cream filled round- so good! All of my half dozen were delicious- maple bacon (real bacon!), strawberry, glazed, cinnamon sugar, and cream filled. Would DEFINITELY come back or stop by one of their other locations. read more

Donuts are delicious, and hands down the best in town! Always fresh and has different varieties. My favorite is apple fritter! Customer service is great, and I get excited when I go there because I'm never disappointed. I got my family and work-family hooked on these donuts. They are not pricey like ducks donuts or sugar shack, which to me are mediocre. You won't be disappointed with Texas Donuts! read more

Came in for a half dozen but review is for Boston Creme, Cookies and Cream, and Cronut. Donuts were as good as I expected! One of my favorite tasting Boston Cremes from the flavor of the custard to the texture of every bite. Cookies and cream was ordinary but the freshness and texture of the donut ups it a notch. The Cronut though is on another planet. It's definitely the star of the show. I would come back for a dozen! read more

The Good: Great service and donuts are always fresh. Lines can get rather long during weekends. The Bad: Would enjoy a better selection of coffees but it's a donut place, not a Starbucks. Overall: Freshly made donuts and other breakfast sandwiches for a great price and friendly service. read more

Alright, I haven't actually been in there; But, I had a great customer of ours at The Butcher Shop bring in a dozen donuts, apple fritters & cinnamon rolls. They are freakin AMAZING!!!! Omgosh! They are similar to a well loved local favorite. But a wee bit "more" It's a yeast donut but not so hollow.. I can't wait to go in person. Enjoy!! read more

OMG so yummy! Kolosche or however you spell it. Looks similar to a pig in the blanket. However it's not. The jalapeño one is now my go to. The outside is fluffy and the jalapeño sausage inside with a jalapeño on top is so yummy. My son says it's sweet. Idk. I bought a dozen for work, they didn't last. The cronuts, cross between a croissant and donut, is my go to. Light and fluffy and not too sweet. They have the gigantic donuts, looks yummy but I'm staying away from it. They have the seasonal pumpkin which I love. And various sprinkles, filled, and anything else you can dream up. Nom nom nom read more

OMGGGG I have been dreaming of yeast donuts and being from Texas you can find them in every mom and pop donut shop! Got there and there were a few people ahead of me so that was a good sign. Grabbed several kinds of donuts including the maple bacon, the last croutons, and a Texas sized donut....to say the least none of them lasted very long. Donuts were light and very delicious. We stop by here each time we travel down from NJ to NC and back if we can catch their hours. Everything is delicious but our favorites are the Long John's because you can build them the way you like it. You can really taste the maple in the maple one. Cronuts and apple fritters are awesome too. Those are our top 3 picks, but like I said can't go wrong w any of it. read more

We really liked the location in Centerville and were so happy we got one near by. My husband is from TX and loves his kolaches! We think the kolaches here are really good and we've never had a donut we didn't like. Everything tastes fresh! I haven't tried their coffee or drinks yet. It's a solid place to get a yummy breakfast or treats! There is no place to eat inside. Parking is a little tricky because the location is in a busy little strip mall. read more

Wow! What an amazing spot, it took me back to my childhood Houston days with their donuts and kolaches (I got the jalapeño kolache!). I appreciate the masks since they are quite small, but so homey. Their donuts melt in your mouth, and equivalent to Krispy Kreme's glazed. So happy to found this spot! read more

Good donuts! I thought they were going to be giant-sized donuts, so a little disappointed. Regardless, they were very good (cronut was delicious) as was the croissant breakfast sandwich. It was busy that Saturday around Noon and no place to sit, so in and out. If you are looking for monster donuts head down to Fredericksburg and Freddie's! read more

Since moving to the DC area 3 years ago, I've been searching for the perfect donuts. Simple, relatively cheap, and done right. It's either Dunkin Donuts (ew) or fancy gourmet and expensive places. Texas Donuts is perfect! So fresh and delicious! Little pillows of heaven, and very reasonably priced. We choose to drive the 20 minutes here over any of the other options that are much closer. They're also taking COVID precautions seriously and I feel perfectly safe buying donuts here! read more

IMHO, there is no comparison in taste. Texas Donuts totally out class Shoppers in taste and freshness. I'm not knocking Shoppers, but Texas Donuts are just that much better.

I got both the butter crust apple pie and the blueberry butter crust pecan (both were too but I think I prefer the butter crust with pecan)- they are on the sweeter end, so pairs well with a tea or milk!
