I've seen this place so many times and I've even been to their neighbor which is the rainforest cafe- (exceptional Italian cream soda / like egg soda) I love the Lilikoi tart they have there. This time I actually went to get something and didn't realize they do sell "Andagi" I also bought a small thing of okinawin yakisoba. And two pieces of sweet mochi Truly not a disappointment. In fact this has that very open Okazuya style of takeout most times it does have order ahead in there were a few people before I bought my food that had larger orders to pick up so it is recommended that you call them ahead of time. They're very gracious people that work in there they're very kind. They're very courteous and they're very quick with the order. I don't believe I saw the yakisoba in the menu, but I seen it when I got to the window and the mochi ball and Andagi are very close to the counter window I highly recommend anyone who is in and around the area for a quick grab on a local favorite of a Japanese doughnut to come to this spot because the andagi- is much to appreciate it's one of these things that we know here in Hawaii to have that nice texture, The nice first crisp bite into the donut and then it leads into that delicious sweet cake doughnut part in the middle what we know as a Japanese donut, this carries its respected delightful reality... stop by this place because for $1.00 a piece... it's a crowd pleaser... I should have bought 10 of those things.. it's delicious when fresh and they keep really well into the end of the day.. Also I would definitely go back for the yakisoba the way it's made is delicious and I am one of those people that loves a good entrée that won't have meat or sometimes not even a hint of meat and this noodle dish is very good. I love how the vegetables were intertwined into the noodles sort of just not perfectly chopped, but it is tangled into the noodles as if it was another soba noodle- the carrots, spring onions, and if you see the accompanying picture- cabbage & or chopped boy choy. i would've loved to love teruya but i did not. i just didn't and i have no shame in disliking this cute local business because i am a professional big back and a picky one at that. $10-12 price range for bentos - they have chicken, shrimp tempura etc. and some vegetarian options and mochi. we got garlic chicken and tempura bentos, they came with 4-5 sides like tamago roll, potato salad thing, sausage thing, eggplant thing IDK THE NAME SORRY service was nice. seems like it's run by grandmas. i am a professional grandma lover too. location on a small strip in between vons chicken and a barbershop. food - basically everything was very oily. it just tasted okay. chicken could've been crispier and had more depth. the potato salad was good, reminiscent of a potato stirfry dish my mom makes...but it was a bit too salty. the other sides were either kinda bland or not special. i did like the sweet potato mochi though! nice and fried like my dead hair overall 3 stars for service and the mochi yay read more

For the first time I had this Teruya Bento Just Looking at this bento today I knew it would be very good and special just happened to come to church where my mom attended in Palolo on Gardenia Street was conducting celebration of life and was presenting this beautiful bento meal from Teruya and unknowingly was sitting next to the original owner who started and says her son has taken over I understand that there is no sitting area but just a Take out place on Pensacola Street and I will definitely go there and order a takeout again and here is the picture of today's bento too ‼ read more

I love this little bento place. They have great bentos here. Love the chicken karage and the shrimp roll ones. Good pickles to choose from too. The nicest owners and service is always so pleasant. Takeout lunch from Honolulu, Hawaii... I guess I've never been here before because I thought that Teruya's Andagi just sells andagi (Okinawan donut). However, when I saw Jackie K.'s photos and reviews, I learned that bentos are available, too! The next obstacle for me was the parking. I dislike metered street parking. I had to just figure it out. Another aspect to consider was the hours of operation. Teruya's Andagi is closed on Sundays and Mondays. The remaining five days of the week are open from 10am to 2pm. When I approached the cozy shop, there was a line out the door! That's because customers don't go inside. Everyone stays outside. The workers are inside and there's a table blocking the entrance. On the table are samples of bentos with prices clearly marked. Service was very friendly! I told the cheerful woman that this was my first visit. She explained that this company used to be at Shirokiya! Wow... that was quite a while ago... over 8 years?... at Ala Moana Center! I took 3 bentos to my mom's house and shared with my sister and niece. My sister said her office had ordered from Teruya's in the past! My niece enjoyed the Shrimp Tempura roll. I liked everything... the Veggie Bento was colorful and tasty! The Garlic Chicken Roll Bento and andagi in the Veggie Bento were delicious! The prices were so reasonable! I will return! read more

It is a takeout only place, but there is parking across the street at Walgreens as well as street parking. We got some bentos for an event preordered from Teruya's. There was a great variety of options to choose from. I ordered the vegetarian and my husband got the garlic chicken roll bento. The vegetarian bento was delightful in taste and looks. My husband wasn't a fan of the chicken because it was a bit hard like it sat out for a while. I had some business at the Lunalilo Post Office, and thought I'd stop by Teruya's Andagi, which was along my way home. Having been there before, I knew that it was strictly a takeout place. Just inside the door, there's a counter with two display cases: one with various bento, and the other with Sweet Potato Mochi and Andagi. As I was looking at the menu and displays, I was greeted by the lady behind the counter. She seemed pleasant and helpful. I've had their andagi and sweet potato mochi before and knew they were good, but I don't recall having their bento. The menu items were reasonably priced. I decided to try Teruya's Oyako Don and their Veggie Bento. She informed me that the oyako don is made to order and would take a few minutes, which was fine with me. I chose the veggie bento as a lighter option, possibly for my wife. It had a variety of vegetable dishes in addition to the rice. She offered me a choice between one with bitter melon or seaweed and showed me what each one looked like. I decided on the one with bitter melon. When I got home, I ate the oyako don while it was still warm. It was a little on the sweet side, but still tasty and satisfying, with tender pieces of chicken. Wow I can't sing the praises enough about this place! The food is great but the service is excellent. Whenever I come to Kaiser I cross the street to Teruya's. There is no lot but there is street parking and sometimes I walk over if I'm going to Walgreen's as well. I'm always greeted with a smile and they are so kind. I don't mind waiting for them to make a fresh oyako don but sometimes I just get the ready made items. My faves are the roll combo bento that has lots of little sides as well as a garlic chicken roll and a shrimp tempura roll, the sozai which are always different but always delicious (faves are the green bean/potato, kabocha, and eggplant), okinawan soba, and of course the sweet potato mochi and andagi what a deal! This little spot is SO good! Takeout only. I helped a friend pick up a very large order for a party (over 60 bentos) and they were each packed with care; an employee kindly helped cart it out to the car and moved them into the trunk, too! The order was freshly prepared and right on time for pick up. Not only was the service great, but the food was so delicious! I tried the large roll bento and the veggie bento. The roll bento came with a shrimp tempura hand roll, a fried chicken hand roll, a bit of sausage, two croquettes, and some veggies (eggplant and greenbeans). Teruya's is located on Pensacola St., in the same block as Aunty Pasto's and Von's Chicken. There are metered stalls along the street, and it can get busy during lunch time in this area, so I really don't know when I'd be coming back. I had an appointment in the area though, and I was looking for a snack, so this was a perfect choice. Teruya's is not a sit down restaurant. It is a little take out counter in the doorway of a little room where they make all the bentos and handrolls. When I went at about 11:30, there was a small line, but it moved quickly. I ordered 2 shrimp tempura rolls and at $3.50 each, I thought it was a little expensive, but I guess I'm used to Kozo sushi sizes, because Teruya's handrolls are twice as big as Kozo Sushi's. They made the handrolls fresh and I waited just a couple minutes for them. The cashier gave them to me in little sandwich bags which I have never seen before. I knew they were going to be good because I could smell them even before I was able to dig in. They tasted freshly made and they add a sweet sauce to the rice for more flavor. It was a perfect accompaniment to the crunchy shrimp tempura. I was rather full after eating two. So much for a snack. Service was fast and friendly. I would definitely try other bentos they offer if parking wasn't so difficult. I some people illegally parked, but I don't think I would chance it. I could see a lot of the Kaiser workers or other office workers in the area coming to get lunch here because it's fast and delicious. read more

Was driving by and heard about this little mom and pop shop that's on the same block as auntie pastos. They just have take out available where you can pick up a bento to go through their entrance. Basically the entire place is their prep kitchen. Got a few different bentos. Prices are very reasonable and the food is good. I hadn't been to Teruya's since pre-pandemic days. Now they have a table with samples of their menu at the doorway and you order from there. We got the shrimp tempura musubi, musubi combo bento and the sampler bento. Everything was tasty and fresh. I really enjoyed the tofu patty in the sampler bento. The only downfall is the parking situation. There is a limited number of stalls on Pensacola and if you're lucky to find one, you'll likely have to parallel park with a lot of cars trying to zoom past/around you. read more

Wanted to do a bento box taste test between Teraryu and Obento Rinka and Teraya wins hands down. You order from a small walk up counter and the lady was so incredulous friendly and sweet. You can also see the staff in the room lovingly make all the bento boxes fresh. The prices are so incredibly affordable at $10 and under. They also sell small little donuts and sweet potato mochi malls for under a dollar! I loved the 3x 3 veggie platter. Such a treat to look at. If you're local, I feel like there are a few foods that one always wants to eat but are not worth the effort of making. This place has two of them: andagi and sweet potato mochi. Having made both andagi and sweet potato mochi (similar to poi mochi) before, they are a ton of work, and I really just want one or two to satisfy my craving. My friends and I had gone to the Moiliili bon dance recently, and the line for andagi was so long that I thought, I'm pretty sure we can buy this somewhere else. It turns out there aren't that many places to buy andagi on a regular basis but this place is one of them! The sweet potato mochi was so good, I ate it before I could get a picture. It was crispy, chewy, not too sweet, and also not too oily. Perfect texture and flavor! I also got a veggie bento ($8.95) and shrimp tempura roll ($3). The veggie bento was delicious - especially the bitter melon stir fry, which was my first time trying it. All of the veggie options in it were good and it was surprisingly filling (but maybe also because I ate two mochi and one large andagi because I was so excited before digging in). She was also very friendly to the people whom I believe to be repeated customers.
