We have had two different waitresses ask us how we were doing AS they walked away from the table. Don't DO that. And whoever wrote that the joint can get loud was also correct. First of all, the space is super cute and the hostess was prompt and very nice. We were seated within 10 minutes even though it was a Saturday night and they were very busy. They were very accommodating to my service dog which is always a huge plus. Our waitress was very friendly and we were greeted within 5 minutes of being seated. We ordered the 5-spice wings appetizer which was AMAZING!! For dinner we shared the Red Curry Chicken, Garlic tossed noodles and sauteed broccoli. The food was delicious and plentiful. We had leftovers, which is always a plus. As for beverages, I ordered the Lychee Martini and my hubby had a Thai Iced tea. I always try this martini to compare to previous ones I've had. This one was pretty good. The only negative I can say, is that it is very loud which makes it hard to hear your dinner date. Was in a party of seven last night and it was everyone's first time there. As a table we were able to try quite a few things: potstickers (very good), chicken wings, Mongolian Beef (2 diners thought this was the best dish - great flavor and tender beef,) Tangerine Beef, Drunken chicken (this was ok - very big pieces of meat, but not as tasty as the other meat dishes,) Heaven and Earth, Caramelized Spicy Tiger Prawns (delicious!) The Chinese donuts seemed really dry - wouldn't order those again. All in all, delicious food and all of us are planning to go again in the future. I have been wanting to go here for a couple of years but heard from others that it wasn't very vegetarian or gluten free friendly. A friend said the options had gotten a lot better so we decided to give it a try. We happened to go in during happy hour. There were a handful of $3 options. We went for yam chips and terra salad. Both were like crack. The dressing on the terra salad was so perfectly balanced. The yam chips were so unexpected. I was thinking they would be large, thick and crispy. Instead they were more like delicate fried peelings of yam with salt and sugar. Wow! For an entree we got Red Curry. I would give it maybe a 3 star. It was pretty good but didn't have much spice. Sorry- it's just not as good as everyone makes it out to be. Let me start by saying their Terra salad is so good. The rest of the menu items don't impress me much and I don't find the service to be that great* (see my experience below). I've tried the drunken chicken- it was just okay. Generous portion size. I tried the coconut soup- once I had it and it was good, the second time it wasn't at an appropriate holding temperature and I found three "extra" items in my small bowl. One appeared to be the hairy end of an onion and the other two were hard and had the texture of a shrimp shell. The soup also smelled like shrimp- although it's not a part of the recipe (to my knowledge). I had the noodles with prawns- they were pretty good. I'd eat them again. *The part that put me off the most was the experience I had the last time I dined there. The front entrance has ~three larger steps. I had a stroller and the heavy door opened outwards. I had to carry the stroller up to the top of the steps with the child inside- I'm 5'2 (note that there's an accessible entrance on the west side of the building that I had been unaware of). When I finally got up there, my daughter tried to open the door but it was too heavy. Then I made my way over to open it (such a pain with a stroller- try it sometime) and two employees carrying bags of to-go orders looked at me kind of anxiously like "please let us out immediately." The door opened. I stepped aside and let them go. They breezed past me. Didn't hold the door for me or anything. No apologies. No "sorry but these bags will self destruct in 10 seconds." At first I thought they were snotty customers but once I was seated inside I saw that they were waitresses. I have a LOT of customer service under my belt and would have NEVER done that- I would have absolutely held the door and waited the ten seconds for the customer to come in. Besides that- it's common courtesy- anyone with a soul would have held the door for a lady with a stroller and a small kid. The experience left a bad taste in my mouth- much like the tepid soup. It's a shame because there's a lot of potential- it's a beautiful space. It consistently wins awards in the area but it's overrated. I've had a number of different dishes there and all have been top notch. Tangerine beef is excellent. Calamari is amazing. I've had the Calamari appetizer twice now and both times it has been cooked to perfection. Super friendly wait staff, no bustle to get you out of there. I love this place, I went their on Monday for lunch with my dad and had the Mongolian Beef for lunch and it was fabulous!! So I take my husband yesterday after noon. I order the same thing and the waiter asks me if I want the dinner portion, no soup or salad but more Mongolian Beef. I decide to take his suggestion. My serving was less than the day before with the lunch special, more green beans than beef and the flavor was just not there, not as strong. Normally it is just so good. So my husband is of course is saying why on earth do you come here, so annoying!! My fiancé's first time eating the food (he's not big on asain food) We ordered fried ice cream and the lady (assuming the owner) was concerned about it melting. I only go here for lunch since I work around the corner but really wish I had Terracotta Red closer to home because it's sooooo good! My favorite things here are the fritters, Drunken Chicken (my absolute fave!), Mongolian Beef, and the house salad they give you as part of the lunch meal. Don't know it's official name but it had like a honey tangerine type of dressing and nuts that I crave every once in a while. The only time I've ever been disappointed was when I ordered the pot stickers for a take-out order I needed. They were scorched and had a bad burned taste to it. I'd give this 2.5 stars....I might be a little biased since my meal here (well... combined with a pretty hefty piece of homemade carrot cake) sent me into my first gall bladder attack. The calamari was very good, not too heavily breaded, perfectly crispy, not too chewy at all, and it came with this nice light lime dipping sauce which was nice compared to the creamy dips most places give you when you order calamari. Unfortunately, that was the only part of the meal that I really enjoyed. We got the drunken chicken which was decent...but it was VERY greasy and had WAY too much sauce on it. It was literally dripping in 3 times more sauce then it needed. It was like ordering a salad and having the lettuce so heavily coated with dressing that the entire dish is almost inedible. We also got the Emerald Fire Noodle which was so overpoweringly spiced with something that tasted somewhat like all spice that no one in my family could eat more than a small portion. We also got the string beans which were decent but nothing to write home about, although they did have a very good texture. We also got a side of brown rice, which was fine. I woke up with the worst heartburn of my life a few hours after falling asleep and was up the entire night feeling awful. I think there was just so much oil added to everything that it made me sick. I wont be going back, unless it's just to order drink and appetizers. The location is very nice, clean, and comfortable. The staff was strange. They all acted VERY awkward like they didn't quite know what to say when we walked in or when we wanted to order...it was so weird. I've never experienced anything like that at a restaurant before. In the middle of our meal, two women that worked there started dragging tables and chairs around on the floor to arrange for a big party for 2-3 minutes. Come on...between the two of them I imagine that they could have easily lifted the tables and chairs and moved them instead of dragging them along the floor and interrupting our dinner. Went here last night with friends. Nice environment with a modern casual vibe. As others have said, this place is LOUD - so look elsewhere if you're wanting a quiet dinner and intimate conversation - but for a fun dinner out with friends, it was great. We all agreed that the food was good to very good, but whereas I was expecting us to be "wowed" by it (based on the reviews here and the chef's credentials), we were simply "pleased" to varying degrees. I don't know if they were understaffed or what, but service was slow... we waited quite awhile before our orders were taken, and again (repeatedly) for empty dishes to leave the table. I thought busy-ness might have explained the friendly but seemingly stressed-out, hyper-speed waitstaff, but no cigar; when most patrons had left, they kept their odd, frenzied pace. Just watching them made us nervous... and we had to practically throw ourselves in front of our server as she buzzed the tower to ask for anything. I had this picture in my mind of some dictatorial manager watching the servers' every move on closed-circuit TV, waiting to push the shock button if they dared slow down. :) Jussst a little weird. One should know (we didn't) that this is a place where you order large and small plates to share. We discovered the truth when our smiling server yet wore a confused, "who ARE you people?" look on her face when she realized we'd ordered with separate meals in mind. Amazing. Simply amazing. I have driven by this place 100's of times but read up on it from trusty Yelper's and decided to come here last night for our 9 year wedding anniversary. So glad we did.The building is pretty cool on the inside and you wouldn't know by looking at it from the outside. Yes, it is loud in there but that is just the way it is. We ordered the corn fritters which were so Delicious. The dipping sauce was spicy, but I am not a wuss when it comes to that stuff. Entrees, we got the tangerine beef and then a chicken and spinach dish with peanut sauce. The beef was one of the best things I have ever had. The chicken was good but after having the beef I felt that I needed a little more seasoning or kick to it. We also got the strawberry shortcake with marscapone for dessert. So amazing. It was so fresh and just simply Delicious. Service was great. Our waitress was attentive but not over bearing. It was pretty busy for a Wednesday night but to me, that is a good sign. Terracota Red is different from the regular teriyaki or thai places that you'll see around the area. Its and asian bistro so they have a little of everything; thai, malasian, chinese, and korean. It is upbeat and just a tad loud, but blame that on the great open layout and tall ceilings. The food was pretty good and might have been GREAT had I been hungrier. That being said, I was laying in bed at midnight still feeling stuffed. We had the pot stickers and short ribs for starters and while tasty, neither were anything special. However, the greens under the short ribs were dressed with a sauce that I ended up using a spoon to finish. My mouth just watered thinking about it. Suggested by the waitress was the top sirloin - the potatoes were awesome, the sirloin tender, but would have liked a bit more sauce. Although it was a tad overcooked (nothing to complain about really) the Kung Pao was great, perfectly crispy and just the right amount of sauce. The disappointment was the Shanghai noodles - not spicy as described, came with a whole three shrimp and no duck as far as any of could see. Luckily the actual noodles themselves were great in spite of the lackluster preparation. We got the donuts too but I'd order something else next time. Again, nothing really special. My friend took me out to lunch to this place, it is trendy, minimalist, and delicious. I had the Crazy Drunken Chicken and the steamed jasmine rice as well as the house salad. Everything tasted lovely. My mouth still waters as I think about it. Crazy Drunken Chicken- awesome name, awesome dish, light breaded and fried chicken breast in a organeish-redish sauce that reminds you of orange chicken but it is not orange chicken. It's better. Steamed Rice- Perfection, though you can't go wrong with a rice cooker. The salad- sublime. Fresh lettuce tasted as if they were handpicked, very light tangy dressing with fried yams for crunch. My friend had the chicken coconut milk soup which looked amazing but I couldn't partake in as it had shrimp paste. Would I go again? Absolutely! The waitstaff is professional and accommodating. I've eaten at Terracotta Red at least a dozen times in the last few years, and each time I leave (grimacing at my super tight post-dinner pants about to bust) I remind myself I need to finally Yelp about how great it is. And at last. Here I am. I've enjoyed their Happy Hour as many times I've frequented their dinner service, always leaving ultra-satisfied with a full belly and some leftovers for lunch the next day. (...or second dinner after I get home. Let's be real here.) Service is always quick and friendly, I love that they leave water carafes at the table (especially as I drink at least two during my meal), and ALL of the food is delicious. I've decimated the HH menu and ordered an awful lot off their dinner menu, and have thoroughly enjoyed everything. My only complaint (and the reason for a missing star) is that the last two times I ordered the creme brulee - my favorite dessert - it was burned black (read: charcoal-ish and inedible) and the custard was runny and basically still liquid. Very disappointing, and I'll never order it again. However, the deep fried Chinese doughnuts always make me giddy, though they definitely need to be served with more of the passion fruit dipping sauce. And the chocolate panna cotta? I hadn't seen my friend Emily in over a year; she was just back from England! We were so excited to see each other! It was our first time at Terracotta Red. We loved the food. We had one of the fresh specials. I have never tasted mushrooms like that in my life! They tasted like (healthy) candy! We had several other items as well, including the Kung Pao chicken. Everything was delicious. The ambience was very nice. Emily and I are nice and friendly and happy people and we were on cloud nine to see each other. The waitress looked lovely but seemed *extremely* stressed and rushed. We arrived right at 11am, when the restaurant opens - we had made reservations in advance - and there were only 3 other people there, maybe she was stressed about opening up the restaurant. However, she could not be bothered to smile even once. I didn't like that. She also took about 2 seconds at our table every time that she stopped by. Any sort of friendliness or warmth was completely absent. Emily and I enjoyed our time there anyway but if great service means a lot to you, maybe pick a different restaurant. picture this: A bright lime green painted store on the corner of Pine and Hewitt in Everett, WA right off of I-5. Sure, you are thinking its some crappy Mexican joint, right? WRONG! This Asian Fusion place is fantastic. Walking into it you are met with a wide open foyer with seating that looks comfortable. Then you are greeted by a very nice woman dressed in nice dark clothes. The walls are stuccoed in a way to shows bamboo pressed into it when it was wet, it is very well done and clean. The ceiling is high and adds to the open feeling. The curved walls enclosing the bar and kitchen also allow for you to feel at home and not cramped into a tiny bistro-like place. If you have a group of 6 or more they have a table just for you right inside the curved wall in front of the kitchen. From here you can watch as the two chef's put out dish after beautiful dish of AMAZING looking food in gorgeous, oddly (yet utilitarian) shaped vessels. Surveying the menu, the prices and descriptions will make you think that you are either a special guest or that they know that everyone is on a tight budget these days. The food just sounds amazing, reading the menu causes anyone to salivate at the thought of the food that it represents. Having been told about it as the best ever, I asked for their "appetizer" of Fried Calamari with Pepper Lime dipping sauce. First of all, the reason I put the quotes around appetizer - the mixing bowl size dish filled with tasty tasty food is hardly an appetizer, definitely an entree is a better term. I have never really had Calamari, I have to say that this is the only way to be introduced to such a great food. It was sweet, yet spicy and the meat was so light and tender that it practically danced from the bowl to the mouth. If I would have known that the Calamari was so large, I would not have ordered another entire entree! Although, the Singapore Fried Noodles were absolutely delicious! The mild yellow curry along with amazingly tasty and giant prawns made the dish totally worth it! Lastly, long story short, we got free dessert from a very nice couple. These desserts might have been the best part of this glorious restaurant. A Coconut cream torte with carmel and fresh fruit was delectable but nothing compared to the fresh doughnuts with apricot dipping sauce. The sauce was the sweetest thing that I have ever tasted. Overall, this restaurant could have been 4 stars or more but was ruined by an over abundance of sweet sauce that ruined my entree. Corn Egg Flower Soup: Excellent. Delicately flavored broth served with the perfect amount of white pepper to give it heat. The basil also added a nice contrasting flavor to the sweetness of the corn. Drunken Chicken: The chicken was high quality and excellent but ruined by WAY TOO MUCH SAUCE. I literally had to use my white rice as blotting paper for my chicken so that I could actually eat it. We had dinner at Terracotta Red last night and it was extremely enjoyable. The food is very well prepared and presentation is top notch. Both the small plates we had (calamari and corn cakes) were delicious and the large plates (drunken chicken and Mongolian beef) were also incredible. We also ordered a side of noodles (very smokey and flavorful) and green beans tossed in a soy sauce based dressing. Amazing both of them. Drinks and service did not disappoint either. The decor is very minimalistic and clean, the lighting was prefect, not too bright. Overall, very good atmosphere. We need more places like these to spearhead the rebirth Everett is experiencing. Made for a very nice night out to dinner. If I could make just one suggestion would be to keep the kegs of beer well stocked. I was looking forward to trying a pint of Laughing Buddha Pandan Brown Ale with dinner (this beer apparently is meant to be paired with Asian-inspired food) but they were out. Yummy!! So on my last visit to Seattle my cousins and I stopped here for dinner on our way back from the outlet mall. Definitely try a few of the apps...the baby ribs were SO good and so was the calamari! Tender...not chewy. For entrees, I totally recommend the Red Curry and the Crispy Pork Belly. I usually don't hit many "asian-fusion" places, but I'd definitely go back to this place...if I lived in Seattle...but I digress. Service was great and hosts were friendly. read more
