A five star classy and Californian infused restaurant located in South Jersey! I am greatful for Terra Nova. Terra Nova meaning "New Land" in Italian and Portuguese is the place we take friends anytime they visit. Its description and sign include a Crudo bar meaning "raw" as for the raw fish and sushi they serve.
Overall, I am truly and deeply devoted. In fact, our friends always request to go back when they visit. I had many try the crème brulee for dessert and they often claim this as a new favorite food. It's comparable to the crème brûlée I experienced in Paris, France. I prefer it served warm which they will do upon request. I love the Lobster Bisque which includes lobster, heavy cream, and sherry. The Pan Roasted Bourbon Mussels are a favorite as many agree and these include Prince Edward Island mussels, bourbon infused bacon broth, and jalapeno peppers. You have to dip the warm bread in the plentiful sauce, it seems to never end; you just don't want it to! Everyone should try the house salad which includes butter lettuce, baby arugula, radicchio, goat cheese, red grapes, roasted peppers, and fresh lemon vinaigrette. You have the option of add-on like salmon, tuna, and chicken. I recommend the short rib cheese fries whose name does not do it justice. They are the appetizer that my husband must have and is forced to share because I cannot resist them! They are worth going to get via take out. My kids crave the uniquely made spiral creamy mac and cheese, you'll have to dig your fork in! It includes cavatappi pasta, three cheese blend, and a heavy cream parmesan crust...it's definitely not kraft. You'll also have to try the Crab Stuffed Salmon which is lump crab stuffing, meyer lemon butter sauce, yukon gold mashed potato, and farm fresh veggies (I like the sautéed spinach). Another menu item I adore is the Mediterranean inspired Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna which is seared and topped with lump crab and asparagus risotto, drizzled with whole grain mustard cream sauce. You can opt for the mango salsa for the extra flare. This is if you want to go a little lighter overall but you will still leave satisfied. The Chicken Terra Nova is an old time favorite, it's what my wedding guests had raved about and includes pan fried parmesan crusted, oven dried tomato, fresh mozzarella, and tagliolini marinara. This is the dish that hooked me my very first visit at Terra Nova. It's far from your average chicken.
I always find myself craving their spicy pineapple margarita which can be paired with any entree or still stand alone and be the best drink in the house. It whisks you away to both the warmth and cool breeziness of Southern California.
I was so excited to talk about the food and now that my stomach is grumbling to go back as I describe the delectable menu, I'd like to describe Terra Nova's ambiance. I cannot find it anywhere else locally. I've tried! From the picturesque fountain that is pretty enough for photo ops, you have to pause and take in the Italian style arches decorated in lavish foliage and lush hanging baskets. In fact, passing through an arch is the symbolic act of rebirth, of leaving the old behind and entering the new. This may be deep for a review but it's a true experience as you enter this "New Land". You have to open tavern like doors that lead to what feels like you've entered someone's hidden wine vault. The walls are lined with barrels and aged wines. The lighting is dim and the low music is relaxing. You'll view the cozy bar tucked in-front of you full of happy locals and and dressed both formally and casually. There is a grand ballroom to the right where there is often an event occurring. Your senses are already stimulated by the social milieu and the invigorating smells of the food you have to look forward to. I had my wedding reception here fifteen years ago and every time I enter it is nostalgic. The friendly hostesses are open to wherever you'd like to sit and you will develop a preference. The choices are some high top tables down the spine of the main room that run parallel to the kitchen with booths and regular tables surrounding. If you keep walking you'll be led to two large back rooms, one with high ceilings and beautiful floating palm fans to keep it cool or just for show. The outdoor patio lies adjacent to these rooms and also along the front of the restaurant for those that enjoy outdoor eating. Wherever you sit, you will be happy. It's a date night or wedding reception turned escape into a whole new place.
It's truly hard to find another restaurant that is quite the same, due to the ambiance and service both of which are exceptional! It has only gotten better over the fifteen years I've gotten to know it, much like an aged wine. Terra Nova is family owned and it's a beautiful treasure my own family will always recommend. read more
