The roll pictured is the Indiana roll with salmon skin inside and eel/avocado on top - very tasty. Kiraku Sushi offers the best possible dining experience in the neighborhood. I deeply appreciate…read moreboth the simplicity and the quiet sophistication of this place. After visiting regularly, I've come to know the wonderful people who run it--with professionalism, warmth, and consistency. A quick disclaimer: I'm recommending Kiraku based on a personal preference for sushi that honors traditional preparation--clean, balanced, and free from excessive sauces or unnecessary embellishments. I've been to highly rated sushi spots where every piece is smothered in sugary, multi-ingredient sauces, masking the flavor of the fish and turning the experience into something overly rich and far from authentic. Kiraku stands apart. Their sushi is beautifully restrained--great-quality fish, well-prepared rice, and flavors that are distinct and harmonious. For those who enjoy bolder options, there are a few heavier sauce-based rolls on the menu. But for me, the real strength of Kiraku lies in its refined, minimalist approach. If you appreciate true sushi craftsmanship, this place is a hidden neighborhood gem with extremely good pricing for the quality you're getting.

The place is smaller, but because of the great weather, we were able to sit outside. Service was okay. It took a while to get our order in and to get water to the table. Then, our appetizer came out and a few mins later, our mains came out, so it felt back to back. Nonetheless, the food was good. In terms of pricing, I thought it was on the higher media price of food in the area, but thought it was delicious nonetheless. I had ordered sushi rice cakes and also got a chicken teriyaki. Other dishes that we had gotten included a garlic shrimp and one of the Dominican rolls, the De Lo Mio Rolls. We all enjoyed our food. Only note that I'll give is that we got the main combination courses for the garlic shrimp and the chicken teriyaki. My dad wanted to sub out the rice for plantains, but ended up not getting the miso soup and we were charged for a whole side of plantains. Wish we could've been told that it wasn't a 1:1 substitution.

Ps: they are related to the mamasushi brand, which i found out later when one of the owners showed up on a fancy Mercedes Benz. The food was not even decent. We ordered 4 sushi rolls. 2 made "dominican" and 2 normal. The taste was on point but the rice was already getting hard when brought to the table. We also ordered 2 ramen but felt it was microwave ramen and it came cold. Now rewind. When we arrived, there was 1 table inside and 1 outside available. There was a couple ahead of us so I asked if we could sit outside as I was with the fam. The young girl just nodded and left. I looked to see if she was coming back to wipe the table clean but no.. I had to go get her. Then we sat and time passed and nobody came, so I got up and another server came to take our order and apologized for the delay. After placing the order, guess what happened to the food. It took so long that when it came it came cold and we didnt want to send it back. Another table sat next to us and the same experience happened and they asked to move inside as nobody was really taking care of anyone outside. Mind you, one of the owners was there. I eat ramen constantly and this was subpar, I eat decent food but this was bodega sushi at best. I was hoping for a great experience but it just reiterated what we suspected, service was going to be sh1t and it showed. I can't support local and minority own when I feel im not treated with respect. They get 2, as the sushi taste was good but hard rice is not something I would come back for. You can do better. Ps: all these inta post are paid service, fyi

Started off with a Tsingtao (Chinese Beer) smooth and refreshing, a solid choice with hibachi. There was a bit of a wait for the chef to come out, but once he did, it was totally worth it. He struck the perfect balance--entertaining without overdoing it. We ordered the steak, scallops, lobster, and shrimp, and everything came out cooked perfectly. Portions were generous enough that we even had leftovers to take home for the next day, which is always a plus. I really liked the light-up hibachi tables, a nice modern touch. The restaurant wasn't crowded, which made the experience even more enjoyable, and the service throughout was good. Overall, the place looks great, the food was on point, and the vibe was just right. We'll definitely be back.

This staple in Throggs Neck deserves an updated review, which at this point is 7 years from when…read moreIkko initially opened. Between my first review and now, Ikko has maintained their relevance. They've kept up by offering decent Asian inspired apps and entrees. At the tail end of Covid they pivoted to include Seafood Boils as an option. Not a fan of boils so unsure how that option is going. Another option, Hibachi, which we also are not big fans of, unless forced upon us by friends or family. Is prepared on these red glowing tables and appears to appeal to the masses, so that's a good thing. During our visits, generally on the early side of dinner hours, service has always been attentive and our meals, most often than not are prepared as expected. There has been the occasional slight hiccup while dining in or when ordering for delivery, but nothing major. The aesthetics of this place continues to appeal with their colorful facade. And their interior is just as inviting with ambient lighting of red hues throughout the restaurant, enhancing the Asian inspired statues and textured wall designs. It's nice that Ikko has kept up with this large piece of real estate, providing decent meals and continuing to keeping themselves relevant within the neighborhood.

I also enjoy the kitchen apps and entrées- the miso eggplant and agedashi tofu are great appetizers. The salmon teriyaki is always perfectly cooked and accompanied by fresh vegetables. As other reviewers have mentioned- the construction of the rolls can suffer at times- for me this usually looks like 1 at most 2 pieces losing their integrity when I pick them up. My friends and I agree that this is Riverdale, not A sushi hotspot desitation and we would rather sacrifice a point on the physical construction /proper sushi technique than go somewhere else that has beautiful perfectly rolled sushi- with less fresh fish or rolls that are more rice than filling. Also- the sushi IS good! I usually go for salmon, tuna and a sweet potato tempura roll The lunch specials (monday-saturday until 3:15 pm) are a really good deal and come with pretty good miso soup and a fresh side salad. I am appreciative that they run a little later in the day as well. Aoyu has always been very reasonable abt modifications- there is no upcharge for brown rice for lunch bento- easy to request veggie instead of pork gyoza, and I really don't like crab- imitation or otherwise- so they always let me sub a cucumber avocado roll instead. Thanks for being such a great restaurant in riverdale Aoyu!

The Miso Soup, on the other hand, was quite watery... I'm a Miso Soup snob and fairly picky, but this one could use some real help. The salad was actually worse. Some lettuce with a little blob of carrot ginger dressing on it. I got some stuff to-go... my wife and I didn't like the calamari dish (tastes funny), I love the flavor of the beef ribs but it was way too chewy, my wife said Pork Gyoza was very good. The edamame could use some salt IMO. I liked the Chilean Sea Bass too, though I'm glad it was an appetizer. It wasn't the kind of prep that I would want a lot of. Something happened during lunch that kind of disturbed me, though. A tall, lanky Black gentlemen wearing a construction vest walked in. I vaguely heard him asking for Chinese food. The staff told him that it's Japanese food, and be could find Chinese right over on Main Street. They repeated this once or twice, but the man kept asking something. I thought I heard "what did is this? What do you have? What is it?" The staff person kind of brushed him off, motioned to the door and was done with him. He looked incredibly frustrated and it was one of those moments when I wondered if I should have just walked out. The staff saw that I noticed this, and spoke to me about it a couple of times. She claims he was demanding free food. I understand that she was busy. I get that people come in from the street and they can be a pain in the ass. I also acknowledge that she was a small Asian female and may have felt intimidated. But the interaction felt kind of racist, to be honest. It felt like she was very quick to dismiss him, show him the door. I get that this man was unlikely to become one of her better customers... granted. But I don't like the way he was treated, regardless. I would consider returning, but I hope they will consider how that treatment feels to another person.
