Soba noodle azuma has been our #1 spot for soba noodles! I literally get excited when my husband…read moresays, "Soba?" My answer is always an immediate, "OMGOSH YES," and we know exactly where we're going -- Soba Noodle Azuma. We always get the cold soba combo, LARGE PLEASE. The soba is just SOOO good -- the right chew, the right temperature, the right texture, and the right amount. I used to get the small, now I get the large, but if I can't finish it, my husband will. We've gotten the combos with salmon sashimi, katsu, curry, chicken egg bowl, and the beef bowl. All were good, just depends on what you're craving that day for a little extra something on the side from your soba. And we ALWAYS get their cucumber appetizer. We love our cucumber apps, so we usually get it at every restaurant if it's on the menu, but azuma makes it THE BEST. We also had their okonomiyaki one time. It was really good and very filling, but I feel like it was over-sauced (but im also not a "saucey" type of person). They have other great things on their menu that we want to try, but we just can't get enough of their soba! They're BYOB, so that's a nice little perk if you want to have some light drinks during lunch or dinner. I want to go there with some sake one night and try all of their appetizers. Also, it's easy on the wallet for such good food and it's so filling. Great food, great value, nice casual and cozy atmosphere. The servers are straightforward and polite. There's street parking right in front if you can snag one, and there's also parking at the municipal parking area.

Their udon is the best and soup is full of flavors you can tell they make it there. I always get their Azuma Gozen, and although I notice the quantity of each side dish decreasing very slightly, it's still a wonderful mix. The tempura is perfect, pork is nice and tender, sashimi fresh All this for 25$ is great, and even if you prefer soba they will allow you to choose 100/200/300 grams for no upcharge. Also had takoyaki, you get 5 pieces it's amazing and soft too Service is respectful and amazing. The overall music and design of the place is relaxing. I felt like it was winter again sitting there.

The seating in the restaurant was a great variety during a week night. Seems to be like a neighborhood gem for great takeout. Food was yummy and satisfying! We got two appetizers and each a ramen which we enjoyed but definitely not at all your traditional ramen. The soups here are made with chicken broth which is a different flavor profile then other places. Still just as yummy and i hope to be back again for the kind service!

Broth for the ramen mediocre, spicy noodles overcooked and tasted like a cheap Thai restaurant. But what really bothered me was the slow and confused service. Ordered a bowl of Ramen which took over 45 minutes to make. The restaurant wasn't too crowded and the only reason I can think of was the take out orders during lunch time. The waiters were moving around the restaurant a lot but kept forgetting to bring drinks from the bar or dishes from the kitchen. So drinks weren't cold and food wasn't warm enough. Noodles stretched out and without the correct texture. Overall very disappointing. Especially considering the previous Tampopo and the one on187th.

I ordered the Unagi Don Gozen ($42)- it came with a whole tray of different delicious items, with the star of the show being a generous amount of unagi (eel) over rice. The eel was cooked very well and the rice was flavorful with a bit of sweetness. There was also a small bowl of udon noodles, some sashimi, a crispy tempura shrimp in a yummy creamy sauce, flavorful edamame, mashed potato with corn, and some pickled veggies - quite the diverse array, all of which was tasty. The restaurant itself has a rather simple yet elegant Japanese wooden design. The prices suggest it's a more high end place, but the vibe is actually rather casual. The staff are very attentive and the service speed is pretty quick. Overall, I would definitely give Moru 4.5 stars if I could. I think it's great for most types of occasions, and the only reasons it's not getting 5 stars is because I do think the prices are a tad higher than I would've hoped and I think they could've done a bit more in terms of designing the place to match the price point. That being said, I still highly recommend Moru, especially for a nice lunch.

I love this sort of Japanese street food. I couldn't see the 2nd floor, because of a private party, but this location seems to have comparable seats to the 125th Street place. Service is very good as usual. Pork buns: delicious. Spicy Tonkatsu ramen: my second favorite of the ramen they have. Kakuni ramen: they serve you a huge piece of pork belly... very succulent. I wish they kept the same proportions of noodles and broth they serve in the tonkatsu ramen. Since it costs a bit more, I was disappointed to see much less broth and noodles. It's nonetheless my favorite. Overall, this place is as solid as the other two. They ain't cheap, but the quality of what I usually order is high. I should probably try other options from the menu to compare with other places. The chirashi bowl is delicious, but I haven't had much else.

Strangely enough I missed trying this dish on a trip to Tokyo last year…read more I had it on the list to try but didn't get a chance given all the foodie items I had on my list. While I can't vouch for authenticity but I can vouch for a delicious bite. Sazanami Hamba-Gu is notable for their Japanese Hamburger Steak, which is a hamburger without the bun, a very popular dish in Japan. Their version was served on a platter with rice, vegetables, miso soup, and chawanmushi. The patty itself was very juicy and tender and noted on the menu as a beef and pork combination. I included some addons which made my entree far more pricer. The fried egg was a good call while the double cheese probably wasn't necessary. I got the recommended red wine demi-glacé and another with the soy onion. The red wine was better in my opinion. Also got a tonkatsu to share and while the breading was very good the pork was a little drier than other ones I've had. I'd skip the tonkatsu and stick with the Hambu-gu as that was definitely more notable. Service was friendly but the entree does take time to prepare. I'd say think twice if you are in a hurry.

The concept here centers around their hambagu which at the other location was limited per day and was served with their signature curry. We got a few appetizers and enjoyed each one thoroughly. The tartare was a standout. For mains we got red wine demiglace hambagu and the kaisondon. The hambagu was as good as I remember; juicy, tender, explosion of flavor. I would love for there to have been a curry option though as it was truly my favorite J curry in the states. The miso soup is also is different. It's more like what you'd typically find as opposed to their previous homey version. Overall very solid spot from one of my favorites.

The happy-hour menu is limited (around six or seven dishes), but it works for me. On my last visit, I spent about $30 total. That included a Japanese draft beer from the tap (Sapporo) and two entrées, one around $12 and the other about $10. I left satisfied. I'm not a sushi aficionado, but I know what tastes good. The eel avocado rolls are a favorite, and the California rolls are always reliable. Everything I've ordered has been fresh and well prepared. One thing I appreciated: tips are included. I was about to add one manually, and the bartender stopped me and let me know it was already built in. I actually liked that: no awkward guessing, no accidental overpaying, and it felt fair. The space has two clear vibes. I usually sit in the front section, which is mellow, softly lit, and relaxing, with a view of the sushi prep station. If I'm out with higher-energy friends, we'll move to the other section, which feels more like a bar with a few tables and a more festive weekend energy, sometimes with music or a DJ. I've also been here once outside of happy hour and spent around $50-$60. I left full and satisfied, though expectations may vary depending on what you're used to. For me, happy hour is the sweet spot. Staff is consistently polite and professional, the place is clean, and there's always a steady crowd no matter the day or time--which says a lot. They've been around for a while, and it shows. For the area, they're doing a good job. Definitely recommend.

The last few meals have been getting smaller and smaller and more expensive but this last meal I ordered yesterday was absolutely ridiculous. $25 for a piece of salmon that was 1.5 inches X3-ish inches. I usually can eat this bento box as two meals, and I'm still hungry after eating it as one meal. I used to order there at least 2X per week and not gonna do that anymore because I understand the cost of living is going up, but this is not that; this is price gouging.
