So far, my stats are 50/50 catching eggs in my mouth when they're flung toward me! Everyone gets a good laugh as they attempt to catch some, too! The other side of the restaurant is the sushi side, but I've never ordered sushi here (yet). You can also order sushi on the teppanyaki side, though. Once you order your meal, it also typically comes with soup, salad, and white or fried rice. I always have plenty to take home in a to-go container for another meal. My favorite is the teppanyaki chicken. I've also ordered the teppanyaki steak, but the meat was a little dry and not well seasoned. Prices are reasonable at $25-35 a plate, and you will get plenty of food. This is also a good place to take kids, as you can share your meal with them, and they will (hopefully) enjoy the show the chef puts on as he cooks. The group I arrived with included over 15 people, so the staff seated us at one large table. This is definitely a great place for enormous groups.

The restaurant was very busy, but we were seated fairly quickly, and the service was excellent. Everyone was very friendly and attentive. My husband unfortunately got sick shortly afterward, though we're not sure if it was related or just bad timing since we're both frequent sushi eaters. Nothing we had stood out as bad, but nothing was especially memorable either. One thing that could use some attention is the tables. Ours had scratches and peeling paint, which from a distance made it look dirty at first glance. Overall, it was a decent experience. We ordered 5 things, 2 rolls, one meh, the cherry blossom, one expectedly good, the crunch (reliability good across all locations unless something is seriously wrong) And finally one so bad that it was sent back after my father and I tried one, the Thomason. My father ordered the chicken katsu, one worthy mention is the oiliness of this along with it being significantly more bread than chicken. Gyozas (fried) were equally oily and the sauce being entirely unflavored, in favor of more oil. Finally ambiance, leading back to the first point, it's certainly new management, as previously, the ambience was immaculate, the staff were mostly Japanese, the songs were good, and while the seating was certainly cramped, it felt natural in a very Japanese way. Now the previously mentioned tight-quarters is quite glaring, as the music is the classic mix of pop and rock that fills places with no identity, the staff are mostly Mexican, and while I have nothing against that, its quite weird to be in a Japanese restaurant listening to Spanish. Unfortunately I am one who reviews only when something extremely interesting happens with the food and location, and the interesting happenstance at this restaurant is how much it is not worth your time or money anymore.

The Y2K roll is simply a CA roll topped with salmon, eel sauce, and spicy mayo, which might seem super simple, but the quality of the fish, paired with the two sauces, makes an absolutely amazing flavor bomb. All of the workers here are extremely welcoming. Our server, Toshi, was very attentive, refilling all of our drinks with no hesitation or wait. Masa-san is also the hardest-working chef out there; huge props to him. The chefs here treat their to-go orders just as importantly as they do their dine-in orders. From Oxnard to Camarillo to Thousand Oaks, if you're a sushi lover, you have to give this restaurant a shot. You will not be disappointed!

A Disappointing Experience at Masa Sushi -- Especially for Guests With Food Allergies…read more We have visited Masa Sushi frequently because, when our orders are prepared correctly, the food is genuinely delicious. Unfortunately, the service has become consistently disappointing, and after our most recent experience, I feel compelled to share a serious concern--particularly for anyone dining with food allergies. I have a serious gluten and dairy allergy, and every time I visit, I make a point of clearly communicating my allergies when ordering. Unfortunately, the server consistently seems unable or unwilling to acknowledge these concerns. He often simply stares at me without responding, and there appears to be a significant language barrier that makes communicating important dietary restrictions extremely difficult. His body language can also come across as visibly frustrated or irritated when I ask questions about my food. During my most recent visit, I ordered a Chirashi bowl and specifically requested no Kani (imitation crab) because Kani can contain wheat and therefore poses a serious risk for someone with a gluten allergy. I made this request specifically because previous Chirashi bowls at this restaurant have arrived with Kani despite my request to have it removed. When I explained that I could not have the Kani, the server told me, "There is none in it." I was confused because my previous Chirashi bowls had contained it. Unfortunately, when my food arrived, the Kani was there again. I immediately called the server over, pointed directly to the Kani, and told him, "I can't eat this." He took the plate back to the sushi bar. Instead of preparing a new dish or addressing the potential cross-contact issue, the Kani was simply removed from the existing dish, and the same plate was returned to me. I asked, "You didn't replace it with anything?" The server did not answer and quickly walked away. This was particularly concerning because when someone has a serious food allergy, simply removing the offending ingredient from a completed dish is not necessarily an adequate solution. The Kani had already been in contact with the other food on the plate. At a minimum, I would have expected the restaurant to take the allergy seriously, communicate with me about how the dish was being remade, and provide a safe replacement rather than simply picking the ingredient off and returning the same food. The service in general is also extremely slow and consistently feels disconnected. This doesn't seem to depend on how busy the restaurant is; even when there are only a few tables, the service often feels flustered, inattentive, and at times rude. It's unfortunate because the food itself really is good. We've returned many times because we genuinely enjoy it when everything is prepared correctly. However, delicious food isn't enough to justify repeatedly dealing with this level of service--especially when a customer's serious food allergy is involved. For anyone with a significant food allergy, I would strongly recommend exercising caution and making sure the restaurant can clearly understand and safely accommodate your dietary restrictions before ordering. In my case, after this experience, I no longer feel comfortable dining at Masa Sushi despite genuinely enjoying the food. Great food, but the service and handling of serious allergy concerns need significant improvement.

Absolutely! Five-Star Experience at Teppan Steakhouse - A Perfect 46th Anniversary Celebration! We celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary at Teppan Steakhouse in Oxnard, and it was nothing short of exceptional! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel special, and the service was top-tier throughout the evening. We came with our family, and everyone had a fabulous time. The teppanyaki chef was not only skilled but incredibly entertaining, creating delicious dishes right before our eyes with flair and fun. The steak was tender, the seafood was fresh, and the fried rice was full of flavor--every bite was memorable. The setting was perfect for our celebration: festive, lively, and family-friendly. They even acknowledged our anniversary, which added such a thoughtful and personal touch to the evening. Teppan Steakhouse helped us create a beautiful memory with our loved ones, and we are deeply grateful. Highly recommended for any special occasion--or just because you want great food and a great. read more

I came here on Valentine's Day and was treated well by the management. I came with my family and unfortunately, I had not made a reservation. As expected there was a wait, a long one at that, but we decided to walk around and return in an hour. We were sat and warmly greeted by our server. We received our soups and salads and we were waiting for the chef to cook. Instead of the chef coming, the hostess came by with California rolls and said that they were on the house because they were understaffed. The customer service here was excellent. They didn't have to give us free sushi, but they did because they truly value their customers. And because they were free, they tasted even BETTER. If you want to eat somewhere that has fantastic food, great customer service, and a clean and modern atmosphere, then Teppan Steak House is where you should go. read more

everything here is delicious and this place is always poppin' i usually order the stuffed jalapenos which are jalapenos stuffed with crab meat, and cream cheese, and then deep fried in tempura batter and drizzled with some kind of sweet sauce. add some lemon and you've got gold on your plate. i'm drooling just thinking about these bites of perfection! i also get the chicken and shrimp combo with fried rice. ALWAYS get fried rice, you won't regret it, i swear.. and its SO WORTH the extra charge to upgrade to the fried rice. I like to cover my entire plate with chili sauce and the ginger sauce. I don't really care for the white sauce, but there seems to be something AMAZING about it that i'm missing because everyone around me is always asking for extra white sauce. the sushi rolls are really pretty here and its always very lively. read more

Hands down my favorite Teppan Steakhouse to go to in Ventura County!! I have been coming here for many years and I don't get tired of it! First of all the food is great and the chefs are very entertaining. Their portions are a great size, taste amazing, and can definitely be affordable. If you have the chance, my personal favorites are the steak, calamari, shrimp or scallops. Also, one of the best things about this place is that you can bring your own beer or wine......and there's no corkage fee!!! You could even bring in your own cooler! You can save some money on drinks and spend more on the food ;) On top of that, their service and management is fantastic, I never leave here disappointed. If anything ever happens, which is rarely, they're quick to fix it! I definitely recommend it, you won't regret it. read more

I'm sorry but this place is ghetto!!! BYOB!? C'mon! This would have been cool as a youngster so you can imagine the type of people. Young drunks in their early 20's.
