Vegetarian review:
My Experience:
I entered on Saturday night with reservation at 8PM in December.
I was seated next to the door where a draft came every time people entered or left. Our waiter apologized and moved us slightly but the restaurant is small and the draft is everywhere.
Service: 5/5
To compensate for the draft our server got us the plate of Jerusalem artichokes, wakame, and cucumber.
Drinks: 4/5
Our drinks were strong and tasty. Not too inventive, but did basics and classics pretty well
Food: 2.5/5
The Coombeshead farm bread was quite nice, though with the amount of lentil parfait and smoked aubergine they did not give enough.
The lentil parfait was a bit boring, no strong tastes
The "Chinatown" purple potatoes were served crispy in a bed of sticky soy sauce with a seseme seed cracker.
The smoked aubergine had a really nice smokey flavor and was quite savory, but it didn't have enough pomegranate seeds to balance it out
The tapenade on the pulled oyster mushroom tart was very nice but the tart itself was quite difficult to eat and ended up making a bit of a mess on the table
The celeriac escabeche was phenomenal, undertones of citrus with a strong mushroom and buttery flavor throughout
The grilled ticklemore was very cheese forward, again the cranberry chutney that accompanied it was not proportionate to balance out the savory with the sweet.
Entree: the chargrilled squash with muhammara was very nice, the muhammarra didn't have any walnuts in it, but instead the dish was covered in diced walnuts which was an inventive presentation that worked really well.
The trimmings were very nice, simple vegetables cut and grilled to perfection
Dessert: The sticky toffee apple budding had a distinctive burn taste, I like burn flavor, but this tasted burnt, and the pudding was dry.
Overall, I was unable to tell what the throughline for this restaurant was. It felt scattered and disorganized. It seemed to be an [almost] vegan's take on food from throughout the world, and it had some successed but it missed the mark in a number of cases. read more
