We were hanging out in Soho and the online reservations showed no openings. We decided to try and walk in anyway and are glad we did. They had room for party of 4 and it was Monday night, so "butcher" pricing, which means you pay what they pay by the weight for your meat. There was a chalk board that listed all the cuts by weight and as they sold, they crossed them off. There were still plenty available in a variety of cuts when we arrived around 8pm. I love that the entire restaurant is underground. We ended up getting an 800kg ribeye and it was the perfect amount of meat for us. We did supplement with lots of sides including the bone marrow, mushrooms on toast, beef dripping chips, and sweet potato. My favorite was the sweet potato, which was ash roasted for 10 hours and you could taste it. They all went will with the steak that came out in about 20 minutes, pre-sliced with a nice presentation. We also got a few of the cheese and pickle, which was a hit with my wife. Our server was great and we enjoyed our time and meal very much! read more

Wow, what can be said about this little gem of a restaurant. This was our first meal in London and it don't disappoint. Service was exceptional, and the food was just as good. On our first visit we had the Sunday Roast (the All In) and it was beyond amazing. One tip: let them know how you'd like the meat cooked, otherwise it might be a bit under for most people's taste. Bring on the meat sweats! My girls and I squeezed in this last min reservation on our last day in London (which was also their Mother's Day) and so happy we did! First time I've been in London for Sunday roast and my friend recommended Blacklock! Definitely need to make a reservation, as I saw everyone that tried to do a walk in get rejected. There's a special Sunday roast menu since they know what everyone came for. Opted for the 55 Day Aged Beef Rump. All their roasts come with Yorkshire pudding, duck fat-roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and gravy. You don't get to pick the way it's cooked, but it's essentially medium rare. I'm actually tempted to give this place 4 stars given the sheer wait time necessary, not only for a table - if you don't have a reservation - but for the time it takes for the food to reach your table. However, to be fair, that just tells you how amazing this place is. Given that it's situated at the heart of Covent Garden, you can expect it to be extra busy for dinner, no matter the season; so reserve ahead if you don't want to have a 2-hour wait for walk-ins. As far as London steakhouses go, this place is on my Top 3. Steaks come a few different ways, from Sirloin to Rump Cap, so pick your favorite. The sides are all tailored to pair perfectly, but my personal favourite is the 10-hour roasted sweet potato. Unlike their slaws, salads, and beef-fat-drip chips, this is the perfect mix between healthiness and indulgence. They also have a burger, sandwich, and even a few vegetarien options, but really... who comes to a steakhouse and orders a salad? Drinks are also plentiful, including an impressive selection of wines to pair with your meat. One of the other dishes that I wanted to try in London was the Sunday Roast at Blacklock, as it seemed to be something more unique to the UK. I made a reservation for dinner at around 7, but they were able to let me enter around half an hour earlier since I had gotten there before schedule. Here you go down the stairs into the restaurant, but the interior is quite spacious and seemed like it could fit a good amount of people. For my dish I decided to get the 55 Day Aged Beef Rump, which is roasted over English Oak and comes with Yorkshire pudding, duck fat-roast potatoes, and seasonal vegetables. The plate is quite large and pretty filling, so it's definitely more than enough for the average person. The beef rump was very tasty, and paired with the Blacklock gravy it had a lot of flavors to take in. The sides it came with were also amazing, as the potatoes were really crispy while the Yorkshire pudding was made really well. What an amazing dinner for our family - recommendation from friends who said this was one of their favorite meals and now we understand! The steak was splendid - the fillet truly one of the best I've ever had, like butter, and the ribeye delicious and well balanced in terms of marble. TBH, we for the bernaise and pepper sauces but the meat was so delicious it was better undressed! Our daughter doesn't eat beef and enjoyed the cauliflower steak, and the sides were awesome - order up you'll be happy - sweet potato's were ridiculous, the fries cooked in beef fat, the slaw and the pear salad. I made reservations for blacklock and we arrived 15 min past the grace period, we had asked our hotel to call to see if it was OK, but not sure if our hotel understood or did. They said they would call, but it didn't seem like they were going to do it soon. Blacklock said we were late and so our reservation was gone (so note do not come late). We waited around a while and we're able to be seated still. I was very jetlagged at this time and the darkness of the restaurant was not helping so I was falling asleep as I was eating which doesn't make an enjoyable situation. I took most of the meal back to my hotel and ate it at night when I couldn't sleep from jetlag, and it was delicious. I really liked the yorkshire pudding which was like a buttery popover and the veggies were very well roasted. I think I might have enjoyed the veggies more than the meat even. The potatoes were a but disappointing though, and I am a potato person, especially fried potatoes. The fry on this was just very hard, and the potatoes were also hard and dense tasting. I loved the quantity of gravy provided, drowning meat in gravy is a joy of mine. I also tried some of the sauces that were offered and wasn't a fan. Overall I enjoyed the food and felt like it was a good Sunday roast meal, but I don't have any other one to compare to. Would I go out of my way next time for it? No, probably not. read more

Recs: Porterhouse- had the 700 grams to share for 2. It was the perfect size without the usual struggle to finish. They have a chalkboard on the pillars of the restaurant listing the sizes of steak available for the night which get crossed out as they get ordered. You don't want to go too late otherwise they get sold out. Medium rare was the way to go and it came out perfectly with the red center. It didn't come with any gravy or condiments- flavorful enough to eat straight. For the price of 45.50 pounds only Mondays! Garlic marrow- comes in a small block enough to share for 2. Adds a nice hint of garlic to top off your steak and a gel consistency to melt in your mouth. Unique side you don't see too often in American steakhouses. BBQ baby gems- sooo good I can eat this everyday. It's slightly charred but still retains its crispness as a lettuce. It's THE vegetable dish to pair with your steak. You can add additional types of meat under the skinny chops section of the menu- comes in a much smaller portion just enough for you to get a taste testing without fully committing to a full blown meal. What a great find! Blacklock was on my list of possible restaurants to seek out while in London and we accidentally stumbled upon it after attending a show and visiting The Sky Garden. The place was packed. It was past 9:00 pm and it was super busy, but we were able to get a table after waiting at the bar. The menu was intriguing to peruse over, lots of meat choices. We ordered the sirloin (about 6 ounces), the beef drippings chips, the bread and gravy, a side order of pork chop and a lamb chop, and a kale and Parmesan salad. It was a delightful meaty meal! Great flavors for everything we ordered. My favorite of all were the beef dripping chips and the lamb chop! I could have had a plate of those two alone and been perfectly in bliss! The kale salad was a great addition as it was flavorful and cheesy. The service from all of the staff was excellent. They all work as a hard-working team and seemed genuinely happy to be looking out for all of the diners. It was a bustling and loud environment, making it difficult to hear one another. I had originally booked for 2 people, but ended up having 1 other joining us on the trip. Blacklock is GREAT. I've tried a number of steak/chop houses since I've relocated to London (including the underwhelming Hawksmoor) and none of them have come to close to matching the high quality experience of Blacklock. On entry you will likely have a good first impression. The interior is warm, the vibe is lively but not overwhelmingly loud, and the smells are already extrodinary. My hopes were pretty high even though they've been dashed so many times before in this city. Fortunately all of the food delivered. We had some of the small plate starters (cheese + pickle & the meat + kimchi) and both packed a lot of flavour into single mouthfuls; the cheese n' pickle almost tasted to me like the essence of an enitre Italian American meal in one bite. For the main course we tried the sirloin, burger, one pork belly strip, the chips and all of it was complimented with the gravy - all of it was delicious. Technically it was all a bit one dimensionally BEEFY and the gravy pushed that ratio way over the top but that beef flavor was magnificent; the gravy is just pure unadulterated savoury meat sauce that goes with pretty much everything on the menu. Only the pork belly felt a bit uninspired in comparison but I did enjoy those bites too. Service was great and, overall, you can't beat it for the price. It probably doesn't compare to a great steakhouse in the US but value for the money is enough to offset any feelings entirely. A must visit! read more

Well, it did elevate the meat from "I've had better" to "pretty good". Beef was a bit tough, but with gravy it was flavorful. Perhaps if that 1/3 of the menu had been available I would have a different opinion. But the meal we had was nothing special. No better than Outback or Black Angus or any other steak house. This is another late review from my EU/UK visit in September. I'll keep it short and sweet - Blacklock was definitely one of the best meals we had on our trip, and it lives up to the hype. The price points are incredibly reasonable, the meats perfectly cooked, and the service here was absolutely phenomenal. They took note that we were celebrating our anniversary and made sure we started off with Prosecco. We went with the All In and got an assortment of canapés, a mountain of grilled mixed meats, and the sides of our choice. We went with the baby gems and beef dripping chips and they were both delicious. You know when you're full but the food tastes so good, you just want more? That was my boyfriend and I after the giant platter... so we ordered another steak to share. Even after that, my boyfriend insisted on trying the white chocolate cheesecake ("when are we going to be back? We might as well eat that too") and I have to say, he made the right choice.
