Ahhhh!!! This place is really cool!!! And they have a book of yummy drinks that are two for one on Sunday and they taste really good and they're amazing!!!! Can you tell I don't get out much? At least for drinks. Anyway. We came here with some friends and took advantage of their 2 for 1 offer (meaning you get two drinks for 10 pounds). It impressed me that they served really good drinks for such a good price. I personally loved The Last Word (super strong but great flavour) and the Elderflower Margarita (YUM!). They both packed a punch but weren't so overpowered with liquor that they didn't taste nice. The bar staff was fun as well. The one that wasn't popular was the honey one. I was gonna give this place 3 stars, but on reflection of the whole experience it's a definite 2, 2.5 at an absolute push. And I don't give out 2 stars lightly. This was one of the few places the bf and I had booked to go to during a brief 3-day trip to London, due to the 2 for £10 cocktails and general good reviews it had. I kinda wish we hadn't! Upon arrival the place was practically empty (but it was like bang on 6pm on a Monday, so a lot of people hadn't arrived for happy hour yet) and staff showed us where our reserved booth was. All good to start off with, the place looks pretty cool inside and the tunes were good too. Here's where it starts to go downhill. I skipped up to the bar having decided with the bf which cocktails to get (at this point we didn't realise 2 for £10 meant two of the SAME cocktail, because they never mention it) and ordered a Strawberry Daiquiri for the bf, plus a Chocolate Martini for myself. Nope, couldn't get the one I wanted as they were out of chocolate liqueur, so it was back to my seat to try and decide on another. I was gutted but excited about my next choice, the Show Me The Honey. NOPE. They were out of honey vodka so I couldn't have that one either! I get that obviously it's a busy bar at weekends, but I thought that was an extremely poor show - the staff weren't hugely apologetic about it either which didn't exactly help. Finally deciding on a Russian Spring Punch (yay, they had all the ingredients for that one!) I ordered the drinks. The bartender said "you know it's 2 for £10 yeah?" but again didn't mention the fact that it's two of the same cocktail for £10. Once he started making up the drinks I of course caught on to what was happening, whereupon he looked at me like I was an idiot for not knowing something they never openly tell you. Great. I begrudgingly paid for our drinks (I wouldn't really have minded except the bf wasn't sure if he'd want more than one cocktail and we now possessed four, plus I was really wanting to try a couple of cocktails instead of two of the same one) and went back to the booth, more than a bit deflated by this point. The cocktails were...fine. The champagne in my cocktail wasn't the nicest but it did the job of course. The atmosphere in the bar was...also fine. But that was it. Fine. It stayed pretty quiet the whole time we were there and I guess just wasn't the whole cocktail bar experience I was expecting. Hard-hitting and delicious cocktails and the 2 for 10 pounds (of the same cocktail) deal is fab. My husband and I got here right around 6pm this past Friday night and grabbed a seat outside. There was barely any queue at the bar at that time so I advise everyone to arrive early. I got the Clover Club- Tanqueray gin with raspberry syrup, lemon juice and egg white and the One Peach at a Time- bourbon with roasted peach syrup, thyme, lime juice, egg whites, peach bitters and Angostura bitters. Blended so well, I barely tasted the alcohol (and I saw the bartenders pour it, so I know it was in there!). My sign of a good drink. Dinking a star bc the AC is BLASTING unnecessarily inside the bar. Outside, bloody awful smokers crowd around, ruining everything. read more

I came here with some friends on one of the 2-4-1 happy hours and the place was absolutely packed. I would easily say that the wait to be served particularly toward the end of the Happy Hour period is around 30 minutes. So order early, order quick and order in volume, as you won't get served again when you've reached the bar. The bartenders however do their best, but as humans can only physically make drinks as quickly as their hands allow. Expect some sarcasm and dour humour whilst you wait. Other than the crowd at the bar, the place is pretty loud but has fantastic atmosphere. The cocktails are West End Prices, but 2-4-1 cancels that out. All their drinks are amazing and the bar tenders are patient in some ways in making the most complicated drinks on the menus. Plus their never ending list of drinks makes you harder to decide while you're already tipsy. And what's the lesson learned there?? Just try everything. As for the crowd, it's a bit of a mix here and there. Mostly people getting out of work but less of those 'Camden punkers' if that's a more appropriate description. Not the coolest with a few youngsters and mostly middle-ish aged. But who cares, drinks are cheap and good. To sum it up, go for their happy hours and JUST DRINK! There really isn't a lot to complain about here. From Monday to Friday, this place offers 2 for 1 cocktails on an extensive list (does not include wine, beers or spirits though, and both must be the same cocktail) and the bar staff are very friendly and seem to know exactly what they're doing. The decor is low key chic with candlelit booths and retro framed artwork. Obviously there are a lot of other folk who are aware of the draw of this offer, because by 8 o'clock in a Wednesday the place was a hive of activity. Yet despite the floods of 2 for 1 cocktail orders at the bar, the bar staff maintained their cool. My personal favourite was the Mixed Berry Caipirosca. And at just £5.90 for two, it's not surprising my brain feels like it's rattling around my skull this morning. read more

Fifty Five Bar has a very high-class feel to it, it is located just a short distance from Camden Town tube station but seems quite remote from the usual bar and pubs of this area. With its cool layout and emphasis on elegant understatement, this place is relaxed but trendy and is home to many well-to-do locals and cocktail lovers. The bar staff here are incredible; they certainly know their way round the bar and can provide you with cocktails from the most extensive range I've come across in the city. In addition there is also a sizeable collection of wines and champagnes. Prices for cocktails start at around £6 which is fairly decent but still out of my price range. I'd recommend this as a novel stop-in between pubs. Alternatively aim to be here between 6 and 8pm and you get two for the price of one on selected drinks, though at this time things can get very crowded. The cocktails are amazing and delicious, and the menu is extensive. But on a Sunday night when I went they only had three bar staff on for an absolutely heaving place. The wait at the bar was around 30 minutes, and a number of people had clearly set up camp at the bar, making it so much more difficult for the rest of us. The bar staff were obviously rushed, but that was no excuse for being rude. They also had a clear policy of serving women first - especially the pretty ones. The bouncers were also incredibly rude, the music too loud for a bar (it's not a club but you still couldn't talk to the person next to you), and I certainly won't be going back no matter how good the cocktails may have been. If you want a night spent queuing at a bar and doing very little else, while being too crammed, hot and unable to talk to your friends, and being served by rude staff, then this is the place for you. The only reason I gave it two stars and not just one is because we also went at lunchtime (before going back in the evening) and the girl behind the bar then was polite and helpful. If the place just employed an appropriate number of staff for the number of people they're serving, and turned down the music a little, it'd be a good place. read more

I'm a bit confused about Fifty Five Bar, the cocktails are way above par (all 180 of them), but an atmosphere that could be associated with such fabulousness is lost somewhere between the menu and getting to your seat. It's more of a student/pub/call-in-for-a-drink-after-work place rather than a high end haunt, which is great if you do fancy rolling in for a Martini after a long day rather than a pint. If you're due a catch up with friends, then reserving a table upstairs is free, combine that with Sunday's 2-4-1 session all evening and it's an inviting way to prolong your fading weekend. Besides, it's worth a trip just to oggle at the skilful mixologists shake and stir their way to cocktail heaven. My current favourite, the Cheesecake Martini, may sound quite disgusting, but sharp limoncello followed by smooth nutty Frangelico is a perfect twist on the after-dinner digestif. I agree with some people who said the music is too loud. yes it is, but when you are drunk, you want loud music! The cocktail drinks are average and worth the money when you are doing two for one. Its the type of place to go to on a Sunday, or after work. Probably not ideal for a date, more for a small group of friends. ideally between 2-3. If you want something more up market, you might want to try Nightjar instead. The crowd is a random mixture of people, I dont think they attract a certain clientee. The last time I went there my friend and I spoke to this 40 something year of raimstein rocker, and then met a masters student at the bar after discussing our love for Espresso Martini. I have a new mission in life...I'm determined to drink my way through all 180 drinks on the menu at Bar 55. No, seriously. and with their happy hour deal, I may do just that. After reading the reviews on here, I was a bit apprehensive about what I would find...uh, I'm pretty darn hard to please and I was pleasantly surprised. The layout was an odd shape (a good odd, methinks), the decor was all band souveniers but the DRINKS...clearly the highlight. I miss my days of cocktails, good DIVERSE cocktails (no offense meant, mai tai...I still love you) and after enjoying my Collin 55 (champagne and rasberi stoli glass of amazingness), I was quite happy. Follow that up with a raspberry mojito and they've got a devotee. Hitting up happy hour, my friend and I spent a grand total of £6 before the happy hour ended and we moved on. The reason for a lost star is because, while the drinks were good (i.e. with proper amounts of alcohol), I probably wouldn't hit the place up outside of happy hour simply because £6-7 a cocktail adds up pretty fast, and I know it'd only take a couple before I would just whip out the good old mastercard and tell them to keep 'em coming. I've been to fifty five a few times now, great for happy hour, otherwise I would definitely think the cocktails are overpriced! During the happy hour, £7.50 for 2 cocktails (you get 2 of the same cocktail, you don't get to order 2 different ones). On Fridays, doors open at 5pm, and it's actually really hard to get a seat. You'll arrive to see a bunch of tables, but 80% of them will be reserved! Reservations are free though if you call way in advance, but since I always just go last minute after work sometimes, I've never been able to take advantage of this. Over 180+ cocktails in the menu and I think I've tried about 10. Every time I go, I always order the Winter spiced punch though.. it's DELICIOUS! Possibly too sweet for people who don't like sugary drinks, but I absolutely love it. If you like cocktails with ginger beer, you won't regret ordering this one. The worst part of it is probably the smell of pee.. which is pretty strong when you first enter. I guess you get used to it though. read more

These guys deserve an update. Their daily happy hours have to be one of the most successful in London. The place gets VERY packed. Without any doubt you will wait for at least 10mins to get a drink at the bar. The bartenders on both floors are working their socks off to make undoubtedly the best cocktails in Camden. Seriously try getting to the bar early if you want happy hour drinks, and check upstairs to see if there are any spare tables. The atmosphere and clientèle is still a little off key for me. The loud music, stupendously busy floor and mixed crowd do not seem to quite gel. Yet it is the busiest bar in Camden between 5-8pm, so they are certainly doing something right. Its all about Happy Hour! I luv this place, the cocktails are fantastic, my recommendation is the Collins cocktails - huge selection including lychee, raspberry and passion fruit. (2 for 1 @ happy hour on Saturday, you cant go wrong!) I love this place. I haven't ever been outside of happy hour but as the happy hour times are so generous this may be why. There are 260 cocktails to choose from, so it would be difficult to not find at least one that you like. The staff are amazing, I don't know how they remember all of the drinks, and make them so quickly, often many at a time. It does get busy towards the end of happy hour so it plays to get up to the bar in time. The food is also great, delicious chilli cheese fries and pulled pork sandwiches are just some of what's on offer. It is free to book an area and it is worth it if you are in a group, it can get really busy particularly on Friday evenings. Although if someone doesn't turn up within 20 minutes of their booking the table becomes free for use so I have often been lucky when I have chanced it without a reservation. The only difficulty I have had here is that I struggle to decide between a drink I know and love, or trying something new. Luckily this is easily remedied as the staff are pretty good at giving advice, and I have never met a cocktail here I didn't like. read more

55 bar is probably my favourite cocktail bar in London. Great drinks, over 180 of them, and most of them half price if you go at the right times (6-8pm Mon-Thur & Sat , 5-8pm Fri). My favourite time to go is a Sunday night, their Sunday Sessions are amazing, half price drinks all night long (beware bank holidays it'll be suffocatingly packed). Monday nights are also great, mojito madness means all variations of the drink are half price all night. There are only a couple of problems with this place, the first is that there is limited space for tables and chairs, this means if you get there after happy hour starts you're going to be standing up all night, unless you can brave the tables outside which in the winter are not an attractive option. The amount of people squeezed into one place means you're likely to get jostled and stepped on, but it's worth it. Secondly, getting to the bar can be quite an issue, there aren't that many people serving so you could be waiting a while. I'd recommend ordering a few drinks at a time so you don't have to keep standing around. These conditions however are usually worst at the weekends, so if you're there during the week this probably wont be a problem. Don't let it deter you either way, the drinks and the atmosphere mean you don't focus on the downsides too much. Basically this bar is great if you love cocktails, good music and are looking for a somewhere within walking distance from Camden Town tube station, the market/lock. I don't know if I was just not in the right mood for this place, but Fifty-Five got my heckles up last night. First of all, overly loud. So loud my ears were ringing and I couldn't hear myself think. At 7pm on a Friday night? Doesn't compute, sorry. If it were 9pm, 10pm or later, bangin' music is all good... but for the after-work crowd? *shrugs* Foot, meet bullet. Compounded by the rude staff; ok -- I know it's busy, but "excuse me" and "thank you" goes a long way in my book, rather than just barging me out of the way, plus the whole Camden scenester population... ugh. This bar is wonderfully underrated. It's a great environment, there is a huge selection of cocktails and the staff are courteous and pros at what they do. I spent my NYE here with friends and had a great, safe time. The crowd were friendly and I met lots of interesting people. Overall, I'd say it was great value for money. My only warning would be not to underestimate the strength of the drinks. They are extremely generous with the amount of alcohol they use and the drinks are so good that it can be hard to tell exactly how much alcohol they contain. It's easy to go from 0-60 in less than a second if you see what I'm saying. I would recommend this place but make sure you have something to eat before. read more

I came across this place after searcching the net for good drinking places in Camden. Boy am I glad this one came up. Happy Hour is 6-8pm every day and is 2-for-1 on all cocktails available. Speaking of which, there happens to be around 200 variety of cocktail to choose from! If you happen to catch the happy hour, whatever cocktail you choose, you'll get that one again if you go 2-for-1. My advice is go with a couple of people, choose your own individual drinks, then mix and match amongst your group. The drinks are very reasonable I think, especially for how good they taste. They're around the £6 - £6.50 mark. They play a variety of music inside, usually best suited for those of the alternative scene. Seating is somewhat limited inside, especially come 6pm. Outside they have a small seating area with tables, which once again will get crowded, especially in warmer weather. Overall, I think this is my favorite place to drink in camden and definatly make it 'a must' if im in the area. read more

It's well worth coming here between 5 and 8 during the week for the 2-4-1 drinking fun. A rookie mix up by the three of us meant that my mate came back from the bar with 6 cocktails, meaning we had two each. Turns out the 2-4-1 only applies to two of the SAME cocktails! Oooops... Oh well, we happily polished them off as they were very tasty. Not huge this place - although there is an upstairs which I havent explored - and so it fills up quickly... especially as somewhere that hands out BOFOG tasty cocktails doesn't stay unknown for too long. Mostly pretty chilled in here, although I agree with Leon that the atmosphere is what you make of it, so it's ideal for chatting to friends - don't expect to be blown away by the party. This is a really nice, laid back place with very good 2 for 1 deal on cocktails. The cocktails themselves are lovely with lots of fruit and alcohol. The service was quick and the clientel were very hip giving the place a good feel. The music playing is modern and leans towards the indie and rock persuasion. The menu of drinks is extensive and there are some good concotions but the prices can get a little steep if you're not doing the 2 for 1 deal. I will be coming back to this place as often as I can to take advantage of the 2 for 1 deal, otherwise the price would put me off. read more

YET;)) 2-4-£10 on cocktails on happy hours (not 2-4-1 anymore since few years already) it's a great value especially if you're going out with friends - you can then exchange cocktails between you all (the 2-4-£10 cocktails must be the same). The bar can get quite crowded, especially between 6pm and 8pm, but it's totally worth the wait and surprisingly most of the time you'll find your place anyway. The guys at the bar are super friendly and can advise you if you have embarras du choix - and it's understandable as there is soooo much choice that you will need good few minutes just to go through the menu;) My advise? Don't miss the Zombie and its tasty flames (spoiler much? naah...) Overall this is my absolute fav Camden location for after work drinks! Unrivalled quality and super wide selection of cocktails, topped up with good music and a hint of barmans' humour is the best recipe for a good time in Camden. I haven't been to every cocktail bar in London, but if I had I'm sure this would be one of the top. Amazing range of cocktails, at a price to make you smile, especially at happy hour. Try the ice cream cocktails! Absolutely delicious. Anyone who comes here for a vodka coke is a fool, there are so many more interesting drinks on the menu, for every taste. Downside to visiting such a great bar, it's usually busy so don't be surprised if you have to wait at the bar or for seats. Average non-specific bar, playing non-offensive indie and pop music. I think I heard Footloose at one point. A bit loud to chat but expected as it was past 9 on a Saturday. Decor consisted of red walls, and black leather seats and square cubes for seating. There were indie/alternative band posters stuck to the walls. The crowd too were non-offensive, veering occasionally on offensive types. There is an extensive drinks menu with many cocktails priced at a London average £7 to £8 mark. Spirits were £4. Prosecco by the glass a whopping £7. I ordered a caipirinha and it was tasty, but not very strong or as zesty as they should be. I was impressed that they serve ice cream cocktails and milkshakes and that the menu was so lengthy it had its own numbered contents page. Staff weren't rude, they were polite but not excessively friendly. Perhaps they could be cracked with increased exposure. Impressed there wasn't a long wait for the bar and that the place wasn't rammed full as I expect a central Camden bar to be on a weekend. Very good on a Saturday night - however a normal state of affairs or a consequence of Camden looting last Monday? Overall impression: Generic, average (is bland too strong?). The place has got character. And quite a few characters. Quite taken aback when the heavily tattooed bartender voiced his disdain for bad tequila. He made menacing gestures with his elbows. But he did make nice drinks. And there were waiters, kind of. They collected empty glasses and sometimes delivered drinks, but weren't allowed to take orders. No explanations, pretty funny. In the heart of Camden, Fifty Five offers 2 for 1 cocktails Monday through Saturday. It gets super packed, but there's an upstairs area which is usually slightly less crowded. Their bartenders are knowledgeable, very nice (even though you can tell they're extremely overworked during happy hour), and can make strong delicious cocktails. I went on a Saturday night and thought it turned excessively lairy after about half 10 with big groups singing and dancing. You might struggle to find a table, but that's to be expected anywhere remotely good at the weekend. This sounds overly critical but I did in fact quite like the place. I don't really like cocktails. I hate cocktail bars. But I do like Fifty Five. A cocktail bar that is not enveloped in it's own colon is a rare thing, and I don't think that 55 even care whether they have a colon or not, it's just so laid back. I do have a list of gripes; - service is not always that great. They obviously have a great time working there, and there are some bar staff with real flare but at times it can be noticed that they're not... as eager to please as you would like. It does take quite a while to get yourself a drink, but really if you don't appreciate that your cocktail is being carefully, nay, lovingly prepared in front of you and that it will take longer than squeezing a beer out of a tap then frankly you've come to the wrong place. - it's not always the cleanest bar in the world. There are a lot of drinks, juices and fruity adjournments flying about the place which is a lot of fun, but I do hesitate from leaning against the bar just in case I can't get myself off again. - you get a lot of very "trendy" people... the kind of "trendy" who after a few too many cocktails become utter tools. But I guess that goes for most of the bars in London. Such is life! - reserving tables. I don't like reserving tables. Restaurants, yes. Bars, no. My own personally pet peeve? Bygones. This list is short when compared with 55s merits. Great music, really buzzy atmosphere, great cocktails (I don't even like cocktails, but they're great! Highly recommended come the Hendricks Collins, whisky sour, and mojitos) and 2 gloriously happy 2 for 1 hours every evening. Plus 2 for 1 on mojitos all night every Monday. And I think 2 for 1 all Sunday to boot. So, basically, it's cheap, boozy and little bit flawed around the edges. I can't imagine why I don't drink here more often! read more
